There is more than one person in the Goodreads catalog with this name. This entry is for David ^ 4 White, pulp and prose writer.
Dave White lives in Lemont, Il and is married to his lovely wife Karen, and has two kids named Brandon and Allison, and a dog named Snickers. He dabbled with writing in his twenties when he was into Stephen King, but never pursued it. He discovered Pulp about six years ago, and with it a renewed passion for writing. he finally had his first story published in 2012 from prose, and this year added an Avenger tale from Moonstone. He hopes to add many notches to his belt in the future
Picture Mike Hammer as an angel and that's the kind of tough guy you have here. David White is no Mickey Spillane (of course), but his world weary angel with the werewolf sidekick/employer gave me a bit of that vibe.
If you are looking for new urban fantasy, this is the book for you.
I had heard about this character so I decided to look into it. Was very surprised and pleased. Very good read, likeable characters and a great story. Got to read more of Malachi (Magee) and his associates.
This unique one-shot story written by David White, and published by Tommy Hancock's New Pulp publishing house, Pro Se Productions, has got to be one of the best examples of occult/supernatural pulp out there.
MAGEE VOLUME 1: KNIGHT FROM HELL is a clear example of what would happen when you combined the essence of Gregory Widen's HIGHLANDER and PROPHECY film and television series, with Thomas Wheeler's THE ARCANUM: pure supernatural mayhem on a blockbuster level!
The action and pacing of this story are perfectly balanced, in my opinion. It's a story that keeps you on the move. Keeping you always guessing until the very end.
And this tale is definitely meant to be the prologue to a larger saga that only Mr. White knows how it will end.
MAGEE VOLUME 1: KNIGHT FROM HELL opens with a tragic scene where our main protagonist, Malachi, a human-turned-angel, and one of God's mighty angelic warriors, is forcibly broken, and cast down from Heaven to Earth, by the Archangel Michael, who has discovered that Malachi is in love with a female angel bound to Michael.
This incident later has tragic consequences for the two angelic lovebirds, but how that comes to be, I will leave for you to discover.
Suffice it to say, the fallen angel is sent down to Chicago, Illinois, pretty much in tatters, not knowing if he will ever be able to connect to the being that he once was, or if he will be able to find, and save, his true love from the twisted machinations of the angry Archangel.
While pondering what to do next, our hero meets an old acquaintance known as Princeton Bates who has a lot more to him than what he displays. And he's a lot older too. As Malachi, now calling himself Magee, and Bates reacquaint themselves, and Magee slowly, but surely, begins to acclimate himself to being back on Earth, a horrible new presence appears in Chicago that has the power to threaten the realms of Heaven and Hell.
And a deal will have to be made in the end with the most unlikeliest of individuals, and this deal will have tragic and long lasting consequences, and ramifications, for Magee, and perhaps Heaven and Hell as well.
Only time, and Mr. White, will tell.
What I do knows is that Magee will be out for blood. And may the Good Lord help anyone who gets in his way. Because the gloves are off.
I highly recommend checking out MAGEE VOLUME 1: KNIGHT FROM HELL. It's a fast paced story that has balls-to-the-wall action, with monumental supernatural forces that will keep you engaged. I guarantee it!
I can't wait to read the next volumes chronicling the adventures of this fallen angel, in human form, who is more than what he appears to be.
A dispute between two angels over the love of another leads to a battle between them, played out on Earth between the fallen angel and a demon. Teaming up with a werewolf and gargoyle, to name a few of the other supernatural beings residing on Earth, as well as a deal made with Lucifer himself, Magee, a skilled warrior, takes on the demon. In doing so, he learns that though he’s fallen and his love may be lost to him, his faith in himself still can provide him with power to soldier boldly on.
Swiftly moving through plenty of action, this story quickly presents the characters and the situation they face, both in supernatural and earthly terms. This brief introduction is simply that, an establishing story to present the key characters who will feature in a larger world of adventures. Though short, there was a decent atmosphere of noir that was presented to give a sense of what time period in Chicago this takes place in as there were few, if any, other concrete framing aids to place the story in any era specific context for readers. There were inconsistencies in the typographical presentation of what the main character was called on Earth – MaGee and Magee – that took my attention away from what was happening to instead question just how the character’s name should be pronounced, which probably wasn’t a goal.
I just finished reading author David White’s ‘Magee-Knight from hell’ which is part of the new Pro-se Productions one shots series of books. This was damned good. It was a story about a fallen angel who lost his wings over love for an angel who was Michael the Archangel’s woman. That is the set up to the story that follows. It’s a quick adventure that leaves you wanting for more, and luckily there will be more as this will be a bi-monthly recurring series. If you enjoy ‘Supernatural’ or liked the ‘Constantine’ movie, you will love this series. It’s all told in the first person, as Magee himself is the narrator. I really liked this book, and really look forward to the next installment. Stuff like this, quick reads that are well done and filled with a pulpy/noir feel, are always the best kind of books to me. There are enough monsters, demons and mayhem involved here for everyone. I think this is a great pick for a dreary afternoon. It’ll be sure to make that afternoon a fun day. Pick up your copy today it was excellent. David White has found his niche, and its supernatural storytelling.
The premise of the Magee series is pretty cool - a fallen angel with rough edges going around and dealing with supernatural problems with the help of his werewolf sidekick. This first story sets up the status quo, while putting our hero through the emotional wringer. The story has lots of action, some humor, and just the right amount of pathos.
