This book is about the difficult individual journeys two traveled in order to come to a place where they sought God for help and direction. The law of association is real and those we allow into our lives who will manipulate and emotionally abuse are actually operating in a form of witchcraft. It will be painful. I hated the way Phoenix was targeted at her job and how Trey was trapped in his marriage. There's a high price for not exercising godly principles and discernment and for forgoing one's inner peace when it comes to our relationships. However, there is also mercy and grace available when Wisdom is sought as we see in this story. This book is a good first for the series. It lays the groundwork so the characters, their backgrounds, their desires and their emotional needs are established for us. This will carry over well into the future they seem to be heading toward together. Having gotten to know the two main characters so well we can be assured that there will be integrity and respect toward one another which will undergird their new relationship and their new journeys now that Trey has become Tyre, a rock, and Phoenix has risen from her ashes.

I was given a review copy of this title by the author, and I was so happy that I read it. To call this book a tearjerker would be an understatement. The characters are very rich and believable. The emotions felt real, and I found myself rooting for Phoenix who was bullied on her job and treated like an outcast. Socially, Phoenix also found herself in a rut and not finding the love she craved from a real soul mate. On the other side of the tracks was Trey, who later chose to go by his real name Tyre. Trey was stuck in a loveless marriage where his wife Flora was clingy and obsessive. To Trey's own's doing, and as a result of what happened in his past in college, he willingly chose the desperate Flora which would be to his detriment. Both Phoenix and Trey must fight to work through their dark pasts in order to find true love. There's a valuable lesson that this book teaches everyone about patience and relying on faith. Sometimes God has an amazing way of working things out in our lives. When we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, we have to keep walking until we do. The key is to never give up hope or quit when the odds seem against you, as it was for Phoenix, and when it appears to be no way out, like it did for Trey. There's always a solution to our situations in life, but timing and patience is key. If you're looking for a wholesome read, A Golden Leaf in Time Revised is the book for you!
