Jane Claremont has a painful past. The last time she fell for someone, it almost destroyed her, and she resolved to never let that happen again.
That is…until she met the Professor.
Dr. Thomas Grayson is gorgeous, smart, charming, and dangerously sexy. Jane can’t get enough of him. His words haunt her mind, his hands own her body.
Every moment she spends with the Professor, her heart is in danger. With every look, every word, every caress of his hand, she can sense he feels the same. He’s a little bit broken too.
This connection they have…it’s frightening. It’s irresistible.
This book contains spoilers for Season Three of Downton Abbey, as well as unabashed geeking out over Doctor Who.
A Little Bit Broken - Book 2 is 40,000 words. It’s the second book in the series, and picks up directly after the first book. The series is intended for readers 18+, due to steamy sexual scenes and adult language.
NOTE: In October 2014 I changed my pen name from Alexis Adare to Olivia Devon, to avoid confusion with another author. In January 2015 I changed the name of my Becoming Jane series to A Little Bit Broken.
DNF 35% - TEDIOUS. I downloaded book 1 wand 2 without reading the samples, based on the 5* reviews.
1. In UK we NO LONGER hand out hereditary titles!!!
This author assumes England resembles Downtown Abbey. And people talk like that and become ecstatic over Titles. WTF you can buy titles off the internet now, people are selling them off in obscure parts of Northern England and Scotland.
2. Also who on earth says "discharge my secrets?" - its "DISCLOSE MY SECRETS"
3. Then to add even more oddity to the mix (because it wasn't ridiculous in the first place), the Professor has a BOOHOO moment because his father is a billionaire. Awww s*cks to be you. And according to him, her Majesty purchases furniture from this Conglomerate - because her classy antiques are to be discarded for vulgar commercial chattel.
4. To add insult to injury she tries to turn him into Mr Darcy. I'm not if she read Pride & Prejudice, but Mr Darcy wouldn't be taken by strippers. He was a very correct fellow, contemptuous of weakness and had a lot of prejudice DUH hence the title.
Anyway, this book2 is even worse than book 1. At least book 1 had a few hot bits - this goes on and on about Downtown Abbey and declaring how "OMG you get me because YOU'RE BROKEN!!!"
5. Yep people, these two lovebirds are BROKEN hence their attraction to each other, because somehow at their first encounter when Jane was doing stripper poses at the swimming pool wearing a bikini and Thomas was in his shorts gawking at her - they both recognised the other as being Members of The Broken Club.
But they're not JUST BROKEN - they're A LITTLE BIT BROKEN!!!
It's really tedious. They spend so much time trying to make the Professor resemble a posh gentlemen that book became confused. Was it a Regency romance of proper gents or a Stripper reveal? Lord knows.
An excellent follow up to a wonderfully sexy tale! In this instalment, Jane and the Professor get even closer - and not just physically. The interaction between the two main characters is so beautifully written, and we get to know them better as they get to know each other better. We also get to see more of Jane's family - including meeting her mother, which gives us a sense of where Jane gets her strength and self-confidence. The story is so well-written - the dialogue is wonderful, and the sexy bits, exquisite. And yes, really - sexting in iambic pentameter! - it's more of a turn-on than you might think! Alexis Adare writes smart characters, and in the case of Jane, she has created a such a strong, lovely woman. I adore these characters, and so look forward to reading more of their story!
A beautiful story of two broken souls that are afraid to love in fear o losing and suffering again.
“Very bad,” he whispered. “The kind of bad that divides your life into before and after. The kind that blows you apart into a thousand jagged pieces and you can’t imagine that there will be any way to put yourself together again. So you don’t. You don’t even try, not for a very long time. Instead, you just walk through life a glued together facsimile of a man. All the joy of the world passing through the cracks in your facade like water through a sieve, nothing ever staying, nothing ever filling you up.”
I didn’t think it would be possible to like the second book more than the first, but I was definitely proven wrong. I fell in love with Thomas more and more in the second book. Jane is finally realizing some things she needs to change for herself. I loved that they are starting to get to know each other more. I felt like a teenager for them, knowing how they felt about each other and god the anticipation was killing me there for a minute! I am excited and rubbing my hands together for the next book. Highly recommend reading this one as well.
Wow, this series just keeps getting better. I fly through reading them and then left hanging for the next installment. Jane and the professor (aka Thomas) are so cute together. He is funny, sweet and romantic. Reading about their weekend together was perfect. Thomas is a gentleman and I love the way he always makes Jane feel special and important. They are so happy at the end of this book I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I'm disappointed in the 2nd book. I feel that the first book was taking us in the direction of a dark and forbidden sexual experience. But ended up been too preppy. I don't mind if the characters start developing a more serious and emotional relationship, I just felt that the first book portrayed one side of their burgeoning sexual relationship and before it goes anywhere takes a total different route in the 2nd book.
Beautifully Broken, that's what Thomas & Jane are...I hope they can find their HEA together, while they mend each other's broken spirits along the way!
