Thank you Steve McDonald for the opportunity to read your book. This was an incredible read. In this devotional, I learnt about how to build a deeper relationship with God. This book is written as a guide to help Christians to face trials and tribulations that come their way. This book demonstrates that building a relationship with God and striving to continue that relationship with Him that we will get the support and love that we all need. I loved the section called “Celebrating The Trials,” because it taught me that despite everything that I go through and everything that I face, God will always be there for me to see me through the highs and lows of life. I am glad that I got to read this book. Overall, an amazing read.
100 Steps with God by Steve McDonald is a simple put together devotional of sorts that gives the reader an inventory of how they are doing. It had well thought out questions to ask ourselves. How are we doing? What are we doing? Encouraging it was filled with hope and guidance that I found helpful. This was not an in-depth study of any one thing but rather a short biblical quote and a heartfelt question for each day. I purchased my own copy as an ebook and recommend it for the 99 cents on kindle. Thanks Walking with God Ministries via NetGalley.
Please let me share why I joined this little community and deeply appreciate the Holy Spirit passing these short sayings onto us through Steve McDonald, a willing servant of God. I am not a Christian because I don’t believe in religion. But I love God and choose to walk with God, so I follow the teachings of Jesus who I see as my best teacher about God. Because Jesus called the Holy Spirit a gift and a comforter, I daily am aware of the Holy Spirit acting in my life. Just yesterday the Holy Spirt brought loving compassion into a difficult conversation to produce such a healing outcome that everyone thought would be disastrous. All were shocked, not just surprised, by how easily the wounds were healed and a just outcome was obtained. That is what my days have been like since I joined this small community of faithful people willing to walk with God. This book is for a least three audiences: religious Christian readers of the Bible; religious believers who don’t spend much time reading the Bible; and people of any spiritual predilection who want a daily dose of wisdom to keep them more in harmony with creation and the Creator. I read the version of this book that allows the reader space for jotting down what comes up for them after reading an entry of the day. Writing such notes is an option, not a requirement for using this little book of sayings. For those who desire a more compact edition, there also is a version that omits these pages reserved for the reader’s notation. Not having time will never again be why you don’t tap into this wisdom. But even if you want some but don’t have time to read the whole book, you get a well-rounded faith tune-up just by reading the first five lessons. They offer simple suggestions on how the reader can be “a light of the world.” What are the themes in the first five entries: kindness, giving, praying, honoring the temple by asking God for help de-stressing the body, and doing no harm. Imagine. Even if you read no more than these opening passages, you will not just be walking in the light, you are enabled to be a light that can benefit others who feel themselves struggling in the dark. It’s really nothing you don’t know, but it’s something that you likely take for granted and don’t always think about when you need to apply what spiritual wisdom you do know. In short, here is a book of practical spiritual adages. It is like but different from My Utmost for His Highest, another book of short readings published in 1935 by Oswald Chambers. I appreciated his little book in which Chambers offers lessons gleaned from his biblically keyed sermons but let me tell you why I much prefer this one. 100 Steps With God is matter of fact, not preachy. It distills the biblical wisdom that inspires faith without leaning on the scriptural trappings that can bog some readers down. It certainly benefits already faithful Christians, but like Jesus, it speaks to the infidel and to others who lack faith or those seeking to boost faith. So, even an atheist would enjoy reading this book that conveys the freedom the Holy Spirt sees in our surrender to God. Even a fundamentalist Christian would appreciate this book, because the heart of God and the compassion of Jesus ring from its pages like joy bells. Some will read a passage a day. Others will skip around and read whatever calls them that day. Maybe others will feel so hungry to be nourished by the spiritual wisdom this book contains that they will consume the entire book in a single sitting. In any case, this is a must-have book for someone seeking clear, direct, and simple guidance on how to walk with more God.

... And well-written. I could only give four stars because the formatting was so inconsistent. For example, the Scripture verses used were in italics most of the time, but not always. Sometimes they were in a smaller font, and sometimes one line would be small and the other would be larger. Even a casual final read-through would have caught these errors. Fix these annoying distractions and this is five-star material
This book was very simple in its approach. A thought, some scripture, a question. A bit more application of the scripture in terms of teaching would enhance this study. It may be just right for some, but it wasn't helpful to me. However, this is often how spiritual books can be. It likely is perfect for a person at the right time.
This is a lovely book containing bible verses and related questions to ponder over. This would be amazing for anyone struggling to find direction in their Christian life, or just looking for guidance. Once I had read and completed this book, I couldn't wait to get started on the second book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A nice read. Good to jump through sections. McDonald presents his words with different life scenarios and God. Every thought followed with a verse from the Bible. Then a nice question to reflect on and answer. A small practice of micro-journaling through your walk with God.
This book was so good that I definitely could have just highlighted the thing. A great book to keep close to you for comfort knowing how much God loves us no matter what we're facing in life. Thank you to the author for publishing this book.
The messages in the book deeply resonated with me. With such few words, I am able to reflect on a particular word or phrase and i am led to meditate further on the the Scripture quotations. What struck me powerfully was the message "How we deal with stress can affect how we show up for others." This was not only very timely but truly meaningful as I just recently was diagnosed with a stress-related/weakened immune system illness. This sickly phase of my life has been a resounding call for faith in action, for complete surrender. The Bible verse and the questions have helped me go deeper into my basking in the Presence of God.
I can't wait to read and reflect on the rest of the messages. I pray that many others who can grab a copy can also find grace in knowing that we are indeed God's beloved, guided along the steps in our day-to-day journey of faith and living it and sharing it.
Thank you, Steve for being an amazing vessel of God's love and for bringing us this great companion, 100 Steps With God.
