Trigger warnings felt absurd to me until I read Lover of Leaving by Lisa Carver. Bad stuff is embedded in everything. Who needs to be alerted? Me! I was blindsided by cat killing at the end of this great book and it’s erased all that came before it.

I've never read anything like this! I found out about Lisa Carver when I read her story in the Paris Review about her ayahuasca trip in Peru. I love how honest she is and not trying to be anything at all or put on like some writers do to make themselves sound more interesting. I suspect she's gonna be one of my new faves and I want to read everything she's written!! ❤️🤓
Was so absorbed in reading this today. This is an example of the best kind of 'outsider lit,' engaging writing style, memoir-like and raw and vulnerable.
The usual fresh, insightful, conversational, confessional Lisa Carver style across a bunch of different pieces partly connected, otherwise disconnected. Some quite old, others very recent. All good even if taken together they’re only partially cohesive.
