I’m a huge Brigid fan but I’m actually pretty bummed by this. There’s a lot of repetitive plot for most of the book and not a lot of character moments that she writes so well. I don’t like Alek and I love Tycho/Jax but they just sort of make up very easily. Plus the end didn’t really resolve things? Idk I feel like it absolutely should have been longer (where was Rhen?? What about Malin and Sephran?) and overall really shrunk from the expansiveness of book 2.

Bawling my eyes out because this is the last time I’ll be in Emberfall and Shyl Shallow. 6 books I got to enjoy these characters, and this world and I will never forget them. I think this is a perfect ending to a great series that will forever have a place in my heart. Can’t wait to reread this in a couple of years.

Tycho and Jax my loves I love you so much and I’m going to miss you but also I’m a little disappointed with this book, which is really upsetting because I truely love this world and the characters and I just wanted something that I didn’t get in this book.
First of all I hate Alek. I hate that there were wasted pages of his POV that we didn’t need and that I didn’t want. Why now in the third book when we didn’t get it in the first two. Like I wanted to give him a chance especially when I found out that we were getting his POV before reading this book.
But every time I had an inkling of maybe possibly liking him he would open his mouth and say crap and I would be like never mind.
He kept saying to Callyn: you keep making me your villain but I always told you the truth. He said this so many times like shut up Alek I don’t care you still suck.
And how dare he call Jax lazy. How dare he. That has me actually fuming because wtf. Even now just typing this gets me riled up. I hate ALEK I HATE HIM.
And because Callyn likes him makes me like her less too. And I liked Callyn she is such an interesting character. I belive that she would have had a much more interesting/unique character arc if Alek had actually been part of the bad part of the truthbringers like had he actualy truley betrayed Callyn.
But whatever.😭 I just really don’t like Alek like he doesn’t even name his horse.
We got sweet Mercy and steady Teddy but Alek doesn’t even names his horse I feel like that just shows you what kind of character he is. (I honestly should not get this worked up about this character HE IS NOT REAL.😂If anyone sees this please I hope you agree with me )


I also think we didn’t have that many romantic or soft interactions with Tycho and Jax that I was so craving. They did have some tiny small scenes but I just wanted more.

And one last thing I thought this book ended really REALLY abruptly. Quite a few things were left unresolved??? Like Grey and Tycho relationship is not quite fixed. The whole truthbringer group can’t all have been arrested? And the whole Scraver ordeal is also not done and dusted? Can’t be not that easily. And where did Malin and Sephran go?? (although don’t care much about Sephran.) There is more but I can’t think of it right now.
And I don’t think there is another book in this series???
Or I swear to god if there is another series I’m going to lose my mind. Like I wouldn’t mind one but I also want poor Tycho to be left alone😭😭

Like I hate that Grey also came back to him and asked him to deliver messages in case he needs it in his year long absence as King with his family. No NO leave him alone. He asked him knowing Tycho would say yes.
Even though he was like oh no actually sorry Tycho should not have asked. He KNEW, he KNOWS what Tycho is like of course he would say yes. Just why can’t he live the farm life with Jax that’s all he wants.😭

I will keep my eye out for potential announcement of another series or fourth book. We shall see.

A satisfying conclusion to this trilogy and one I very much enjoyed! It had been a full year since I read book two, so the beginning felt a little slow as I tried to reorient myself—remembering the characters and where we left off—but once I hit about the 30% mark, I couldn’t put it down.

I loved the characters and the romances, though I do wish we had seen a bit more romance between the main characters like we did in the first two books. One small complaint I’ve had throughout the series is how much time is spent with the characters riding back and forth between cities (since the king and queen rule separate kingdoms), which started to feel repetitive.

I never read the prequel trilogy and don’t really feel the urge to now, but there were definitely moments that hinted at past events that probably would have hit harder if I had. I also found the final battle a little anticlimactic. Still, despite those minor issues, I really loved how everything wrapped up and felt satisfied by the ending!

I’m just a little disappointed. I felt like this wrapped up too nicely too quickly (yet also with a lot of questions). I love these characters and expected to see more of the characters interact together for longer but instead I felt like the last 15% was so rushed. Why does everyone magically forgive the conflicts set up in book 2 almost immediately? Where was Rhen? Where was the Tycho/Malin/Sephran reconciliation? What happens to the Truthbringers/scravers if everyone is still afraid of magic?

I was lucky to have been able to purchase this book a week before release date from my local Barnes and Noble.

In the finale to Kemmerer's Forging Silver into Stars trilogy, we find both kingdoms of Syhl Shallow and Emberfall still very much divided by magic with magic still being feared and the Truthbringers now in a deadly alliance with the scravers--vicious creatures with wings, fangs and claw desperate and eager to take back their magic from the magesmiths at all costs.
To add to the conflict, tensions between our main characters are deep--Jax and Tycho struggle to reconcile and navigate their relationship after months apart while Callyn and Alec must work together among growing feelings and betrayal to protect the queen.

This was a very fast-paced, nice conclusion to the series and I especially enjoyed seeing Alec's point of view added in this final book. He was probably my favorite character (aside from Tycho).

There are some intense battle scenes and emotional ones as well. However, I will say the ending felt a bit anticlimactic and I suppose I was expecting more? I also felt the book lacked the romantic element that we saw in the first two books, which was slightly disappointing. With that being said, I did feel like the book left the potential opening for another series set in this world which I would very much like to see with all the old beloved characters and perhaps some new ones too.

2/5 stars. I just realized I completely forgot to post my review for this book and I think it was because of the very complicated emotions I felt while reading and after finishing this book.

Here's the thing, I will always be sat for a Brigid Kemmerer book and I do genuinely look forward to seeing what she's done next, so it breaks my heart to have finished off this series with the negatives outweighing the positives.

I think my main problem upon finishing this book, was the lack of real resolution here. I didn’t finish this, close my book, and feel that satisfaction that comes when you finish a series that wrapped up cohesively.
All the problems that have been hovering over these characters for this entire trilogy were at best, only temporarily addressed- if that final bit could be called addressing the issue. It really wouldn’t surprise me if we got a spin off of the spin off in another couple years, because nothing really happened at a larger scale politically or otherwise to put an end to the unease toward magic. That was the heart of the issue causing all these problems and unrest. The people of Syhl Shallow do not want magic in their kingdom, Grey cannot fully control his magic when he's in distress and he has lost control and killed a bunch of people (yes they were storming the castle, yes it's also bad rep for him to do that). So it makes sense it only takes a tiny group of people to agree that they want him gone for something like the Truthbringers to exist. I'm honestly surprised it wasn't the people of Emberfall turning on him before Syhl Shallow.
What was really fixed here, were the individual relationships going on- Tycho and Jax, Callyn and Alek, Grey and Lia Mara. Them getting their happy endings do not fix all the unrest happening across two kingdoms. Taking out one (very easily replaceable) person opposed to Grey and magic in general, who was leading a larger group of people, is not going to fix all the distrust people have for magic. I mean even when Lady Karyl was killed it happened almost exactly as it did to Lilit, but I felt virtually nothing, not even a little bit of victory or relief like I did when that wicked magesmith finally got her comeuppance. Perhaps because she, as an antagonist, was not as involved or present in the story in the way Lilith was. Hell, she wasn’t intimidating or scary. Even the truthbringers were more of an entity lurking in the shadows, but when they finally ambushed Grey, Tycho, and Jax they were not the intimidating bunch they thought they were. In fact they were just… there.
And speaking of repetitive things, Grey and Lia Mara living under fake names was very reminiscent of Harristan and Quint’s ending- albeit they did so for different reasons, but still. I didn’t feel like we really solved the problem of magic being so feared in Syhl Shallow at all, which was what I thought was going to happen. I spent the whole book wondering how the characters were meant to fix this and they… didn’t. Not really. I suppose it was too great a challenge with no easy solution. Maybe it’s a bit harsh but, I don’t see how the royal family leaving and not addressing the problem with their subjects with even a bit of an iron fist will fix anything.

I also have my qualms with how Lia Mara is written. I understand that as a character, she is very loving, sweet, and gentle. She saw how her mother ruled and she did not want to be like that or like her sister who is equally as ruthless, so she sees the best in people and gives second chances and she never makes an example out of anyone who directly attacks her. That's okay in theory, but in practice, oh my God does it come to bite her and her whole family in the ass. And not just once, it happens over and over and over and Lia Mara still will not rule with even a little bit of an iron fist the next time. Like I said, you can have a gentle character who wants nothing to do with violence, that's totally fine. She was always more bookish and timid, and it was cute when she was a teenager who was never supposed to be the Queen, but once she was the actual Queen, she really needed to understand the image she was deciding to portray to her kingdom. She wanted to be a compassionate figure that the people could trust and talk to, but she was unfortunately, seen as a weak-willed and irresolute. You cannot have a Queen whose word is not the single authority of her kingdom especially not after the previous Queen would cut out people's tongues if they even breathed weird in her direction. That shift from the harshest rigidity in court with Lia Mara's mother to how Lia Mara was ruling must have been the equivalent of having a feral polar bear as a ruler to a fluffy teddy bear, so it does not surprise me people were bold enough to attack Lia Mara directly, to infiltrate her Royal Houses, to kidnap her, etc. I feel like all she did was mope and cry and without Grey she was doing nothing. I think I spent all of book 2 and 3 just wanting to grab Lia Mara by the shoulders and shake her begging her to please stand up. I mean, how many times did her own sister undermine her in front of her people since way back in the Cursebreakers trilogy? Like I said, you can write a compassionate character, but it got to a point with Lia Mara where she came off as totally helpless and weak. Everyone and their mother was disrespecting her and nothing was done about it. You would think that Grey's stoicism and Lia Mara's lenience would balance out... nope. Turns out when you let two people who were not meant to be the King and Queen, it doesn't go well. I'm sorry, but they're just bad leaders across the board.

And I also have to talk about the way Grey is written. Mind you, this is all coming from me, I was a hardcore Grey lover when I first read the Cursebreakers trilogy. Like, I LOVED Mr. Commander Grey. Unfortunately Grey suffers a terrible case of a BAD character flaw. His unwillingness to yield has always been a problem for him, really it's been at the root of every bad thing that happens to him. It makes his life significantly harder when it doesn't have to. In the Curse breakers trilogy Grey never yielded to Lilith, he never yielded in his duties, he was steadfast and loyal. But the more I read those first three books, the more I ask myself if it was really loyalty or just pure stubbornness. Reading back A Heart so Fierce and Broken I was so frustrated with the way he adamantly refused to just admit he was the heir of Emberfall. We could've shortened down a trilogy to two books at most if he'd just been honest. His decisions are directly what led to this war between Emberfall and Syhl Shallow. A war that has haunted and caused many loses and every bit of unrest within both kingdoms. His conscious decision to not yield has brought him a world of pain, which if that's what he wants okay, but it got to the point where it affected everyone around him. And I don't just mean Lia Mara, Tycho, Rhen- no, I'm talking about two whole kingdoms with many people being affected directly because of his actions. And even in this series, Grey still does not learn how to yield. He doesn't even try to speak to and communicate his worries and insecurities or fears, not even to his wife. He doesn't really grow from the character he was in A Vow so Bold and Deadly and I feel like that's when a lot of change should be happening. He's growing older and maturing but he's still doing the same things he did when he was twenty. Grey may be one of, if not THE most, obstinate man I have ever read about. I know it's not his series anymore, but he is still so central to the wider political issues going on and is just such a huge part of Tycho's life that it made sense for him and Lia Mara to still have some development being as present as they were. But like I said with Lia Mara, Grey also doesn't keep growing as a character. They're both just stunted in the way they were three years ago. And I mention this criticism in specific, because I know Brigid Kemmerer can still have characters from the previous series grow. How do I know? Just take a look at Rhen. Rhen kept growing, addressing his past mistakes, trying to actively fix them. He still had his insecurities and he learned to break free from them and take back control of his own life and of anything that held him back- he got back on his horse and raced with Tycho and practiced sparring which he stopped doing because he thought he would be no good. So I know it can be done, but it just was not with Grey and Lia Mara which is an interesting choice.

There was also an unfortunate and devastating lack of Rhen in this book. By far, every dynamic he has to all the other characters he came across were the most compelling. I loved Rhen and Tycho's friendship, I loved how Rhen did his best to accommodate to Jax. Rhen did not sugarcoat what he did, but he sure put in the work to earn Tycho's friendship and I'm devastated we didn't get to see more of that or more of Rhen and Jax tentatively getting over their hurdles. It's totally just a me thing because Rhen is my favorite character Brigid has ever created, but I do feel he was severely under-utilized. To a point where if he were the one making orders, I think we wouldn’t have needed 3 whole books. Even if I'll get tomatoed for saying this, I have to speak my truth and say that I think Rhen should've been the King of Emberfall regardless of who was the heir from the start. And if not, Grey should've abdicated the throne to him. He was way more prepared because was raised for that position, he knew when to be harsh and set examples, he could inspire his people, I could go on and on. In every capacity, Rhen was far more capable and prepared to be a King. Grey ruling from Syhl Shallow and rarely visiting or talking to his people after there was already unrest was honestly a terrible decision. In fact, many of his calls are bad and he totally just deflated when he faced his first real challenge to the point where Rhen had to gentle parent him. Like sir, stand up.

I must also mention it seems Harper was utterly forgotten. We didn't even get one scene with her which was devasting. I missed her and thought we’d get if only a scene with her, but nothing :(

"Doesn't Jax know that I would've explained these things, too? I would've given him the words. I can also be patient and gentle. Maybe I was gone for too long. Maybe he's forgotten. Maybe I've picked too many fights. Maybe I've proven the exact opposite."

This trilogy was really just Tycho falling into the everyone hates him and wants him dead timeline and I was severely unwell. Everyone kept making him feel inadequate and like he was the worst person ever who only made bad and selfish choices, when he really wasn't. I'm upset that his trilogy was him doubting his every action and word, apologizing to people who rarely apologized back. And when I say everyone I mean everyone. Grey, Lia Mara, Callyn, Alek, all felt so hurt by Tycho making one decision that made him happy for .5 seconds. The only people who did not waver were Rhen, Harper, Noah, and Jake.

I won’t delve into it too much, but I am bothered that Tycho and Jax fell into being the miscommunication final bosses for the first third of the book. Not just because I hate that dynamic, but because what made them as a pairing so beautiful to me in Forging Silver into Stars was that the basis of their relationship was trust and patience and the fact the fact that they communicated their apprehensions and worries so well in book 1. And yet they kept having these random squabbles over and over and over without ever addressing the problem. Hell Tycho spent most of their time of tension thinking their rift was all his fault when a huge part of it was really coming from Jax and his guilt for having kissed Sephran. They were reminding me of Grey and Lia Mara not talking out their problems. And I was over it. But they got over their hurdle surprisingly easily which was fine. Truly, most of their problems were caused by external forces and duties. I’m glad they at least got some damn peace and quiet by the end of the book. Shoutout to Noah for telling Grey to leave Tycho alone, SOMEONE had to say it.

Maybe this is another unpopular opinion, but I still don’t care about Alek and I still dislike him. I also didn’t really care for him and Callyn being a thing this whole series. I simply was not interested in their relationship because it was not giving. I won’t aggravate myself by writing down all the reasons my opinion of Alek didn’t really change, because I simply gave up trying to figure out all his mental gymnastics and motives. Alek kept acting like he was the only one who went through some sh*t when all hell broke loose between Emberfall and Syhl Shallow and the only one who lost family in the scuffles. And most of his motives were so damn contradictory I got tired of his pov almost immediately. He wants Lia Mara to be safe and happy but he plotted to kill Grey which would make her decidedly unhappy and he had the audacity to wonder why Lia Mara is going through it after her husband was driven away. He knew Grey shared his magic with Tycho, Noah, and Jake but somehow was shocked he did so with Lia Mara… the man’s WIFE 😐 He is mad Callyn has magic and felt betrayed after she SAVED HIS LIFE? Like brother, I would be a little grateful and put aside my complicated relationship to magic but maybe that's just me. I didn’t even know we were getting his pov until I flipped the page, needless to say I was the opposite of excited. He got his character development but I guess I've seen too many "bad boys" who have a change of heart for their girlfriends alone that I am over that trope by now, which is not Brigid Kemmerer's fault, it's just unfortunate timing. Give the man a friend, a found family, a pet, I don't care just give me something more to work with because he felt so flat.

I will say there were two scenes where I truly FELT something- other than annoyance- and that was when Tycho let his magic flare calling the attention of the scravers as they were descending on Nakiis, and all he could do was say: “I’m sorry, Jax. I’m sorry. I’m sorry-“ I don’t know why that in particular got to me. It felt to me, like Tycho spent this whole series- and this book in particular- apologizing for letting people down. But there was something so devastating about his genuine kindness shining through even if it put him at risk. And of course, when Tycho tried to say his final goodbye to Jax to go after Grey in a sacrificial act, telling Jax “You have my heart” I’m not surprised his scenes and vulnerable moments drew the most emotion out of me. He’s my second favorite mc these books have had, with Rhen being my favorite, of course, so it adds up that I truly felt a swell of genuine worry even being 1,000% sure Brigid Kemmerer wouldn’t kill him off this far into the story. I love Tycho so much and despite flaring temper sometimes, at the root of his character was always his loyalty and kindness. And all I can think of now is Jax’s sentiment of:

“Brave, kind, caring Tycho, who somehow finds a way to discover empathy in every situation, even when he’s staring death right in the face.”

And I agree. Hell, I even think if Alek hadn’t been such an asshole to him, Tycho would have sympathized with him and been as kind with him as he was with anyone. But Alek never gave him that chance and they never addressed what their- mostly Alek’s- issues were with one another. I think if any sort of redemption could’ve happened to make me care for Alek it would have come from a candid conversation between him and Tyco. But one never came. It felt like a waste for their dynamic to not be further explored. I actually think it would have been way more compelling for Alek to realize and accept he was taking out his anger on the only other guy that was within reach (Tycho) who he could get away with attacking, that he was a total jerk, apologize, and grow than whatever he and Callyn had going on. Alek has said some downright nasty stuff to Tycho that was never again addressed and I'm supposed to feel bad for Alek? Right.... right.
I still stand by the fact that Alek was to blame for their fight in book 1 which ended with Tycho nearly dead. He was doing shady business, and he was nearly caught, and he DID provoke Tycho, then he stabbed him! But when Alek got a little burn he went to whine and cry to the royal houses. Of course Tycho did not have to share his very personal business as to why he got triggered during that altercation, but I will forever be bitter that Alek painted Tycho as this unstable and irrational man to the point where he got shamed in front of the Royal houses and was forced to take off his rings (that could save his life if he were injured). Poor Tycho was quite literally having flashbacks to the worst event of his life directly because of Alek, which caused his magic to flare up. But apparently Alek's expensive blouse burning made him the woe-is-me victim. I just can't believe this was never addressed again. Tycho never even got an apology for that.

Anyway, even if Tycho was done so dirty over and over in this series, he is still very dear to me. I am very fond of Tycho, with his unending loyalty that never knew any bounds. Who made oaths and honored them at every turn, even to his own detriment and distress. Who offered his help to anyone without expecting anything in return. Who did not hesitate to lay his life down for those he trusted. Who asked and understood the weight of honesty. Who forgave people even when they wounded him. There really was something beautiful about reading about Tycho coming into himself and growing up to find his peace and strength, so at least I got that.

Anyway, I'm taking Tycho, Jax, Rhen, Harper, Jake, and Noah in my pocket because they were the only ones who did not get on my nerves. Everyone else, go stand in time out.

This book is the final instalment in the Forging Silver series, which follows on so beautifully from the Cursebreaker novels. It’s a series that’s given us a mix of beloved familiar faces and new characters that somehow worm their way into your heart until you’re fully obsessed.

Sparking Fire Out of Fate throws us straight back into Emberfall and Syhl Shallow, dropping us right into the middle of the tension between fractured kingdoms, their estranged monarchs, and our favourite couples; Jax and Tycho, and Callyn and Alek. With the Truthbringers planning what could be the final blow in their rebellion against those who wield magic, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Can our characters actually win this war… or are they just trying to survive it?

This book is packed with everything I love about Kemmerer’s writing: drama, tension, and emotion. I was up until 1 a.m. because I had to know how it ended! The character growth across the board is also wonderful to see, with everyone learning more about themselves and finally settling into who they are meant to be.
I also loved how some of the most unexpected characters end up playing a huge role (no spoilers, I promise), and yes, of course, I cried real, big, ugly tears. I always do!

Even though this is the final book in the series, there are so many unresolved areas for the characters that there must be more stories from this world, and I will be the first in line once Brigid announces what’s next. Sparking Fire Out of Fate was simply perfection: a deeply emotional, gripping ending to a series I adored.

I still can’t believe this is the end of yet another series in the Cursebreakers universe. It’s been a while since I’ve felt so emotional over the end of a book series…Tycho isn’t the only one struggling with grief right now. Whatever magic Brigid Kemmerer puts into her writing, I want her secrets, because very few books have ever come close to the utter enchantment that her world and characters have cast over my heart. The tiny details she includes in her writing—from the terms in Syssallah or Emberish, sparring maneuvers, metalworking techniques, and royal etiquette—make this universe feel all the more real. I especially admire her equine knowledge (and coming from me, that’s a major compliment). It takes a truly gifted writer to be able to successfully swap between several first-person perspectives while ensuring that each character is fleshed out enough; I have yet to find someone who can accomplish this better than Kemmerer.

The full-circle ending could not have been more perfect for all of the characters—it was sublime. The biggest shocker of all was that I actually liked Alek again (though he still deserved to get punched by Jax). But really, I’m just so happy for Tycho. He’s worked so hard all his life and he finally gets to do nothing for once. My only wish was that there was more of an appearance from Rhen, Harper, and Jacob. Ending another story without them didn’t feel the same.

Out of all Kemmerer’s book series, nothing comes close to Forging Silver into Stars. This is such an underrated addition to her multi-spanning universe, but if anything, it carries the most emotional weight, showcasing her talent at its very best, while inspiring me to push boundaries with my own writing. All the stars to infinity go out to this one.

I am so excited that I was finally able to get a copy of this from my library to read. I’ve been waiting forever for this book.

First, the very first thing I wanted to say is that I am sad to be leaving this world, as at the time of this review there have been no announcements that I am aware of, of another story set in this world. I loved every minute of it and from the moment I started this book I couldn’t put it down. I read all the way through it in about 2 days mixed in with work and normal chores. I loved getting to see more of Jax and Tycho and their relationship development, especially near the end. I’m still not sure if I like Alek all that much, but I’m glad that Callyn is beginning to fit more into her roles in this story as well.

I do have some hope for maybe another series set in this world. I do feel like a lot of the main storylines got wrapped up, however, there was a sense of openness at the end that, if there were to be a third series could lead into more but if there isn’t, it still fit into a great ending for the world. I did feel the same way reading the first series though, and this beautiful second series came around. So, I still remain hopeful to revisit this world and its characters possibly with some more new friends. The spicy level was a level 1.

Overall, I would rate this story a 5 out of 5 star rating. I loved just as I have for pretty much all of this author's stories.

I'm so sad this series is over!! I've been a fan since the beginning, and I think it concluded in a really meaningful way. I can't really say too much without giving spoilers, but I love these characters so much. The magic system is well done, and I liked the mix of action and resolution in this installment. The world of Emberfall and Syl Shallow is so rich and immersive, and I'd be lying if I said I was ready to leave these places. Tycho, Jax, and Callyn have my whole heart, and of course, I love seeing Grey and Lia Mara and their family. Brigid's writing is captivating and emotional, and I just love this trilogy so much.

What an incredible and satisfying ending to this series! I was really surprised how it ended! But the ending seemed fitting. The whole book was action-packed and fast-paced. I loved the intensity of it all, but I also loved the little moments shared between these characters. All of these characters are so dear to my heart and I mourn saying goodbye to them. This series has been my absolute favorite of Kemmerer’s books. I sincerely hope she will continue to let us live in this world in her future novels!
