2.5 rounded up to 3.
Have you ever stumbled across an indie book that has a pretty good plot, was fairly entertaining, a MC that you can cheer for yet the young author’s inexperience at his/her craft is painfully obvious?
That was my experience with this book in a nutshell.
Rather than writing down a lengthy list of the areas where this book can be improved, I will say the majority of the issues with the book would be caught had you had a professional editor to help you trim out the repetitive descriptions, correct the typos, flesh-out your secondary characters (why have a familiar if you do not use it? Why have a bodyguard if he stays home?). And tighten up your ending (Even in a series, you need to have at least one of the plots resolved per book, hanging and loose plot threads are not a proper resolution.) Well, dang if I didn’t write out that list after all!
Having said that, I loved the story idea. I’d like to see where it goes.
And so I am encouraging this author to keep writing. Do not give up, you have a good story here.

*I received a copy of the eBook from Goodreads Lovers of Paranormal (LOP) in exchange for an honest review*
The Dark Child, Raven is a witch. He is determined to find out the secrets that have been withheld from him. Raven must complete a task that has been issued by his goddess. Will this task give him answers that he is seeking?
And so his journey begins. A witch, a werewolf and a cat leave the security of the Briar Thorn Academy of Witchcraft and go to New Orleans.
The plot is original and could be better served with less description in order to drive the story forward. The novel would benefit from professional editing in my opinion.
There is a marked lack of diversity in YA fiction and this novel fills that void.
I would be interested in reading the second book in the series.
My actual rating of this novel is 2.5 stars.

Are you looking for a good book that brings the characters on a paranormal work together and breathes life into them. Then look no further. Raven’s Armor is such a beautiful and breathtaking write. The characters come to life with the turn of each page.
Raven a young witch now must leave the semi secure place he has known as home for many years and begin an epic task. Despite his constant companions he longs for one thing he has never known, love. Will it find him, or is the one blessed “dark Child” to roam the world alone and only a spectator to the love of others that surround him.

I loved the werewolf and the description of food. I laughed at the wolf's actions and could taste the gumbo. But I had issues with the fact that someone was mated with forever just by having sex. I don't think that's super healthy. I also thought that there were some cringy parts like when they said the rose was their new mascot. I also thought it odd that the vampire and witch became such strong lovers when the vampire lives forever amd the witch doesn't, but perhaps that will be addressed in the next book.

I received this book in exchange for a honest review from LOP (Lovers of the Paranormal)

Okay... I was hoping for so much for this book. It's a paranormal LGBT romance. It's a genre that I have interest in and I was looking for a great read. Unfortunately the blurb is the best thing about this book.

The issues I have with this book are numerous and it will take too long to list them all. The world building is flat and I have no idea of why the world works the way it does. Why is the character hated? What is the character involved in? What do his friends bring to the story? These are not questions that are prompted by the plot, but by the incoherent structure. We begin with Raven being sent away for reasons unexplained and to do something poorly defined. It purely comes across as a plot device to meet hawt vampire.

The writing is bland, the characters are cardboard and the descriptions odd. 'His beautiful green eyes' was one gem I rolled my eyes over, it would have not been an issue if the main character was describing another character, but this was the description for the main character. The magic is interesting, but not enough to raise the rest of the book from the mediocre.

I really really dislike having to give such a low review, particularly to a book that could have been excellent

***I did the re-editing on this book and thus cannot speak of any errors I may have or may not have found***

Raven's Armor follows the story of Raven Dark Child, an extraordinary young witch who was blessed by Hecate herself. Raven has a unique set of friends including a werewolf named Trent, a familiar named Hajime, and a vampire named Dominic. Sent away from the only home they'd known, Raven and Trent, along with Hajime, are ordered to handle a situation that's been brewing.

I really liked this story. The characters are all unique and easily defined by their own quirks. The only one I had any real issue with was Dominic, he's not very old-school Vampire in demeanor to be as old as he is, but he's still a lovable character once you get over how old he's supposed to be compared to how old he acts.

I loved how spells, chants, prayers, were used in this story. It had a real witch feel to it unlike a lot of other witch themed stories.

The love stories that develop in this book are heart-warming even if they do feel a bit rushed in certain instances.

I look forward to Raven Rising, book two in this series.

I will start by saying we need more books like this, diversity is very overlooked and misunderstood. I applaud the author for this novel. That being said, I dived right in and read this interesting story of witches, and other paranormals. I found Raven to be fascinating and childlike but strong with magic. An interesting mix of characters are with him and I loved their interactions. While at times I wanted more background to a character, others I could have used a little less. I found the love between Raven and his vampire to be a little overdone but heartwarming as well.
I was so comfortable reading this book, almost like a warm homelike quality to the story. That was just my feeling, I believe it comes from the author pouring his heart and soul into his work. I want the next book please, I need to know more….way more. I want to thank the author Raven Vincent Walker and Wolf Paw Publications for making this novel available for me to read and review, I very much enjoyed it. Keep writing Raven, I am a fan. I can foresee this author growing and becoming stronger with time. I am giving it 4 stars!

I felt no connection with MC,
Excessive descriptions that do nothing to the story were annoying. For example, "One ring of ketchup and a ring of mustard were applied to the top bun of his burger and globs of ketchup all over his salted fries. Once he was satisfied, he put his burger together and then grabbed his fork. He speared a few of the crisp, crinkle-cut potato slices and aimed for his open mouth. A muffled ‘mmmm’ escaped him as he began to chew the perfectly salted French fries" Same with going to the toilet and anything else.
