The Bastards MC #2

Honey Whiskey

Rate this book
*Book contains adult themes, graphic sexual scenes and language. Not intended for readers under 18.*
The Bastards live in a world that most don’t understand. We follow our own rules, only accountable to each other, the innocents we protect, and the people we couldn’t save. Each of us wears a mask, hiding behind a polite smile and a respectable job, covering the monsters inside. I made peace with who I was a long time ago. I have no regrets.

Except one.

I've been in love with Jo Walker for years, always standing on the sideline, playing the only position I could. When she looks at me, she sees her best friend; he's the man I want to be. I blew it once; I walked away, leaving her with more questions than answers, knowing it was best for both of us.

A few months without her made me realize that nothing mattered if I couldn’t have her. I need to get her back, and I’ll do anything she asks, including telling her my darkest truths.

I expect her to run away and never look back. That’s the smart thing to do, the safe thing to do. I’m no good for someone like her. This life will only syphon all the goodness away, leaving her bitter and cold. It seems like my choice should be easy.

But, I’m not letting her go without a fight.

I cannot wait! Hurry Ms. Adams. HURRY!!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I should start by saying that I fell in LOVE with Matty in ABM and I've been telling everyone I know to read the book simply so they could understand why. I have emailed Carina many times asking when Honey Whiskey was coming because I needed my Matty fix. So, when the book was done she offered me the chance to read it and I jumped.

That being said, I was extremely surprised by this book. ABM was Jo's story, yes, but it was a beautiful story about friendship and loving someone for all their insecurities and faults. I thought HW was going to be a similar tale, full of drama and angst. It isn't.
I felt like this was more Matty's story than Jo's. We are given a chance to see Jo the way Matty does. Being an Old Lady isn't easy, and Jo doesn't know how to live in his world. I love how strong she is in this book. There were so many times I wanted to throw my kindle, but then I'd be smiling because Jo and Matty are so playful. You can feel how much Matty loves her and her children.
Every question I had from ABM was answered in HW. It is a long book, but I wanted more! It was nice to see my beloved Boston again.
The Bastards have a huge role in this book. I love them! I'm not a fan on MC books, but I will continue to read these because I'm invested in the characters. I can't wait to read Rocker's and find out who he chooses. I hope that there is a book about each one.
All in all, a surprising five stars from a very happy reader!

Wow!! I am SO impressed!! This is the second book by Carina Adams and the second in the Bastards' MC series and it shows such incredible improvement and growth.

The background story of The Bastards MC series was a very intriguing one right from the beginning, and Matty and Jo's story formed a beautiful introduction to this group of militant misfits with giant soft spots. However, in book one Matty and Jo never got to finish telling their entire tale. A lot happened in that novel and the reader was left feeling a bit confused and perhaps lost with more questions than answers, not realizing that there would be another book to follow that would provide closure on many of the dangling threads.

And Honey Whiskey sure brings closure to some issues - at least for Matty and Jo it does. Matty lived in fear of Jo finding out about his double life, the other side of him he had never disclosed to her. He knew she loved the fun and BFF version of him, but would she still feel that way if she knew all of his secrets?

Jo has made some major changes in her life, not the least of which is her divorce and the joint parenting agreement she negotiated with her ex. Ready to focus on herself, it is time to make some decisions. One of them is moving to Boston, which happens to be where Matty is based as well. Lucky coincidence or calculated strategy? We'll never know, but facing him again brings home how pathetic her life has been without him in it.

A very unique format for an MC story as well as a complex but truly moving love story between Jo and Matty, one that will stay with me for a long time. Very well done, Carina! I hope there will be many more BASTARDs MC novels to come, because of the wonderful group of characters portrayed, many of whom deserve their own happy ending. I'll be waiting and watching!!

✨A highly recommended, angsty, raw and moving account of second chances.✨

This was a good read for me. I really liked it. It's a friends to lovers relationship and one that takes place over a few years and two marriages to other people. The hero Mattie has been living a double life but has been afraid for Jo to find out what he really does or why he does it. Once they do become a couple it's on again off again until Jo is tired of running and Mattie is tired
of keeping the truth from her. But things get really complicated once they decide to stay together, Jo has to pretend to be in a relationship with Mattie's best friend and of course that makes him extremely jealous. But Mattie is still keeping a major secret from Jo, he's engaged to someone else!
Bikers, exes, hot best friends, tattoos, cops, kids, killers, deception, lies, etc. I loved it!! Read the book!!

Honey Whiskey is a continuation of Joes and Matty's story from Always Been Mine. In this book we learn a lot more about the Bastard's and how they work. We also see the difficulties that come with being with one of them. Matty and Joes story is a hard one, but shows the power of unconditional love. This book is very different from Always Been Mine. There is some difficult subject matter, but Carina Adams handles it superbly. This is a very well written book that I will recommend to my fellow readers. I am a huge fan of the Bastards and I can't wait to read about more of them! I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Review by Tanya.

This story revolves around Josephine Walker (also known as Jo or Joes), Matthew Murphy (also known as Matt, Matty and Mateo) and the Bastards MC. I first met Joes and Matty in Carina’s first novel,
Always Been Mine, which gives you the background of Joes’ and Matty’s relationship.

Although Honey Whiskey can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading Always Been Mine first, especially if you are like me and like to get as much background on the characters as you can.

Honey Whiskey takes you into the world of The Bastards MC based in Boston. The Bastards are a 1% MC Club but they are not your average MC club and don’t deal drugs, run guns or pimp out women. This doesn’t make them any less dangerous and they have their own agenda and hand out their own form of vigilante justice.

Joes comes into the Bastard’s world completely clueless as to the MC’s rules, what they do and what rank each member is, thanks to Matty trying to keep her safe and out of his world. When the secrets of The Bastards an Matty are revealed, will Joes stay and continue her relationship with Matty and his MC Brothers, who she has come to think of as friends or will she leave them to protect herself and her children?

Matty is the epitome of all book boyfriends. He is kind, caring, sweet, generous, a wonderful dad to his son, gorgeous, rough, tattooed, muscly, rides a motorcycle and loves it rough *wink wink*.
Joes is the everyday woman. She’s curvy, has stretch marks from her two pregnancies, is gorgeous and has trouble believing that Matty could be in love with her.

MC romances are one of my favourite genres and Honey Whiskey did not disappoint. This book was truly amazing. The story, the characters, the emotions, the suspense and the steamy scenes, I loved it all. It was refreshing to have an MC Club that is not into the seedier sides of drugs, guns and women and the agenda of The Bastards still puts them into the “bad-ass” biker category that I love.

I cannot wait for the next instalment of this Series.
Carina has been added to my “must buy” author list. Not only does she write amazing stories, she is also the loveliest person to talk to!

A 5 star+ read for me.

I love the growth from book one. I was able to receive an ARC and I really enjoyed the story. However, the Boston accent written in was extremely distracting. I did love the characters and the suspense. I feel like this is more of Matty's story and I enjoyed his POV. I sometimes wanted to slap Jo but it added to the angst of the story. There was some angst but more character development and suspense drama as she built the world of the bastards. I liked how Jo was so new to the MC world and showed a realistic struggle to get acclimated. I love Lily too! Maybe in the future she'll get her story! I can't wait for the next one. I already have high hopes for Rocker.

Thank you for the ARC!

Absolutely loved this book! LOVED learning more about the bastards and their club! Joes is now my role model so smart and selfless! And the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat! I highly recommend this book if you loved ABM as much as me! I am so excited to read about Rocker!

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

Honey Whiskey is the second book in the Bastards MC series by Carina Adams, and is the continuing story of Jo and Matt. I would definitely recommend that you read the first book Always Been Mine before you read Honey Whiskey so that you can get the full back story on the characters and see everything that has happened in their past. I think that both books are worth the read and that you will not want to miss out on any part of what happens for these two characters. If you haven't read the first book, beware of possible spoilers in this review.

Jo Walker and Matt Murphy have been in love with each other for years. Far longer than they should have been, but their friendship grew and changed as their lives did. Matt is a member of the Bastards MC and lives two separate lives. He has never had any regrets about his life except for when he left Jo behind. After everything they had been through, they walked away from one another even though it killed them both. With more secrets between them than truths, there were things that Matt thought that he could never tell Jo. But as they try to continue with their lives, fate has other plans and continues to bring them together. But in order for them to fully be together, Matt must decide if he can finally tell Jo everything. And what happens when Jo finally knows the truth about everything?

I really liked both Jo and Matt. I know that their relationship didn't start off the best in the first book, but life is messy and you don't always control who you fall in love with. I think that the attraction and bond between these two was so strong, and they were meant to be together. It was always clear to me that these two belonged to one another, but that life and outside influences had a way of screwing things up for them. It was hard to read parts of this book, because you could see how much each of these characters were hurting. They had already been through so much, and yet they continued to get dealt some really bad deals and I just wanted them to work everything out between them. I think that both Jo and Matt really grew a lot over the course of the two books, and were able to find out a lot about themselves and each other. Even when they did things that I didn't agree with or like, I really felt like their feelings for one another never went away and that they were true and real. I could not get enough of these two together, and they were so hot together.

Overall, I thought that this was a really good follow up to the first book. While I liked the characters and enjoyed getting more of them, there were a few things that kept this one from being five stars for me. I felt like these two took a really long time to figure things out, and at times their decisions seemed to just be on repeat. They would do the same things over and over that would drive me nuts and I just wanted to shake them both and tell them to be honest with one another and just have a conversation without freaking out or running away. I also felt like this book focused a lot more on the goings on of the club, and the relationship between Jo and Matt got a bit lost in all the details and action. I wanted more of those two rather that all the rest of the characters. I did like that this book gave us multiple POVs though. I felt like it really added a lot to this story, and it was great as a reader to see what both Jo and Matt were going through and their thoughts on everything that was happening. I really loved the friendship that developed between Jo and Rocker in this story. She needed someone really badly at times throughout this book, and I liked that Rocker was able to be that person for her. I can't wait to get to know him better in the next book, and see what happens with him. I would definitely recommend these books, and I think that while you get that MC feel that these are completely different than most other MC stories that I have ever read. I will definitely read more from Carina Adams in the future, and look forward to Rocker's story next.

Tammy's 5***** Review

I absolutely LOVED Honey Whiskey the second book in the Bastards MC series . In Always Been Mine we met Matty, Will, Joes (Josephine), and The Bastards MC.

Honey Whiskey picks up where Always Been Mine leaves off. Honey Whiskey is the second book in the series. I recommend reading Always Been Mine first. Its helps you to better understand Matty and Joes story.

Matty stole my heart in Always Been Mine. Then I feel madly in love with him in Honey Whiskey. My heart ached for him so many times. How could you not love him? He’s sexy as fuck, heart of gold, best dad, loyal at all costs to his family, tattooed.

Joes was your girl next door. She was curvy, mouthy, stubborn, had low self esteem issues. She had a hard time believe this sex god could want to spend his life with her.

“I love you, more than I ever thought it would be possible to love someone. I want nothing more than to be yours forever.”

Joes loved Matty with every fiber of her being. She didn’t turn away from him when she learned all about his past and what he does for the Bastards. All she cared about was him telling her as much as he could about his life.

"Jo, I will be loyal to you until the day I die, I will love you longer than eternity, and you will be my best friend until the end of time.”

Joes had so many questions and reservations about being his Old Lady in the club. She didn’t know if she could be that person that kept her mouth shut like everyone expected of her in the club. Could they make things work and find true happiness with the one they loved most or go their separate ways --

Will is Joes ex-husband. He was a total ass in Always Been Mine. In Honey Whiskey he redeemed himself. I didn’t hate him anymore and could see he had some good qualities. He truly came through for Matty and Joes when they needed him most.

The Bastards MC aren’t like other MCs. They don’t deal in drugs, weapons, or trashy woman. They are just as dangerous though. Unlike other MCs they are there to help woman and children that are being hurt and abused. I loved everyone in the Bastards and can’t wait to read all their stories.

There are so many twists and turns throughout Honey Whiskey to keep you reading and on the edge of your seat. I truly couldn’t put it down.

I always love when you can read a story through dual POVs. I loved seeing what Matty was feeling. It truly made the story and made me love him even more.

Carina Adams really knocked it out of the park with Honey Whiskey. She captured me in Always Been Mine but Honey Whiskey will stay with me always.

I can’t wait to read Rockie’s story. Coming Winter 2015.

All I can say is A-frickin-MAZING!!!!! I loved Always Been Mine, but Honey Whiskey.... SOOOOO much better! I love Matty and Joes even more now!!!! And the Bastards, especially Rocker, are my new fave MC group!!!! They are AWESOME! I have a new respect for Will in this book. I couldn't stand him in the first book and frequently pictured him getting hit by a semi, but in this one, well let's just say I'm glad nothing disastrous happened to him in ABM. He's redeemed himself in my eyes. And I must also say that even though I still wanted to scratch Taylor's eyes out in this book, she is a tough little hag. She pushed through the hardest of times and still came out on top. On that note, poor Bear, what was he thinking? I can't say enough about these books, but I will leave some to the imagination this time. Carina Adams has amazed me again! I can't wait for Rocker's story!!!!

Okay, after reading book 1 you have to read book 2! Oh my Matty! I want you! *Swoon* This is a man that you can't help but fall in love with. This is Matt's book, yes it is about more, but we get the real Matt in this one! I thought I loved him before, WOW. Now I can't get the man out of my head! What a story and such a great one after the ending in Always Been Mine! You can't read this without reading book 1 first and you may even want to hate book 1 but(and this is a big BUT), YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK! So worth all the angst and pain in the first to experience this! I have been blown away and wowed beyond belief. I want more of the Bastards! I loved so many characters in book 1 and that doesn't change here. I am excited about this series and I am ready for more! I can't wait to see what Carina Adams has in store for the rest of this series!!!

I had the honor of receiving an ARC of Honey Whiskey in exchange for an honest review. Honey Whiskey is the continuation of Matty and Joes' story, and Carina does not disappoint. I was pulled in and captivated right from the very beginning. There are many twists and turns, and it was great to learn more about what makes the Bastards MC tick. I don't want to go into any details, because I hate when people leave spoilers, but this is a must-read! And, as usual, Joes and Matty are scorching hot. I am looking very forward to Rocker's story, coming in winter 2015, because fell a little more in love with him in this book!

After finishing this book I had so many emotions going through me that I probably resembled this. Why? Because I it was over...and I didn't want to say goodbye.

I have to give a little background on how I came to read this special book and to fall in love with this special couple. . I was given the offer to read

 Always Been Mine

by the sweet Carina Adams. I had some issues with it and the characters and once I told her what transpired was a fast and immediate friendship. I never expected to be able to just say "hey this is what I didn't like and this is what I did" and an author would actually listen and care about it. I know that authors care about what readers think but this sweet lady wanted to know what could have made this better to me. Not that she'd have written it the way I wanted it. NO that is not what she was asking me..  She was just wanting to know where my thoughts were on how saw the characters and their actions. What was crazy was in a lot of ways we agreed with each other. So then comes book 2. Honey Whiskey. The sequel to Mattie and Joes and everybody that read Always been Mine knows that it ends on a massive cliffhanger. The kind that makes Kindles get thrown across the room. .

So I get an email ..and

Carina asked me to Beta read and I was like.

Yes that was me because I might be reading and writing reviews and I might even have this small (ok big) dream in side to write myself one day but ..to beta read kinda freaked me out.
So I said ..HELL YES ..because I'm crazy like that. I just wanted to know what was gonna happen to Matty and Joes and hell she's offering to let me know before anybody else..

So yea I started getting chapters and I was in HEAVEN .

The story progressed in a way that I was very happy with. Carina barely need any guidance or suggestions. I mean there were a few moments her and I just talked about some things but really the characters just took off and Carina just is an amazing story teller. The sizzle factor was off the charts this time and I was pretty thrilled with those sneak peaks.

Matty is a good guy and he is loyal and Joe is a woman who has spent her life putting everybody before herself. This time is finally her chance to be happy and to be cherished by a man that is going to love her with every ounce of his soul. The fact is that he always has. The one thing these two had to fight against half the time was each others own stubborn actions. Matty was bossy and Joe like to run when things got tough. Matty though needed to have that strong hand and Joe needed to let him lead because he'd never lead her astray or let her fall.

I adored this couple and maybe it's because I saw them come from low to high..but they will always be special to me. This author is not only a great writer she is a great person and friend. I can't wait for Rockers story and I know she's gonna take me on a angst merry go round but for her and only her would I climb aboard anything with angst and only because it's got Rocker ..<3

Carina, Thank you for this honor. Maybe one day we'll be both lost at Disney World together!

This is second book to Always been mine. I would recommend to read Always been mine first to understand the story line.

I still really love Matt and Joesphine, they grew more on me throughout this book.

I couldn't help feel for all the characters in this story. We meet more of the Bastards MC, and I loved how we learnt more about everyone going through this book.

I really loved this series.

Seriously, a lot of the misunderstanding could have been avoided if they had taken the time to actually talk to each other and trust the other (yeah Matty I’m talking about you). They used to be able to tell each other everything so it was difficult to see them struggle so much.

I enjoyed the mystery in here though and that helped with the characters’ stubbornness. I’d love to know more about Dean, Ian, Tiny and Tank.

I had a good time with this book overall

The Bastards MC is much more than a motorcycle club. They are a family who protect anything they hold dear. I found this book unlike any MC book and I would classify it as more of a love story between Matty and Jo. The story is just so unique. After reading Always Been Mine I was itching for so much more between Matty and Jo. I wasn't disappointed in the least. If possible I fell more in love with them. I truly wanted these two to have the happiest ever after possible. This book opened up my eyes to true unconditional love and second chances.

Reading Always been mine is a definite prerequisite to reading Honey Whiskey. It is the beginning of Matty and Jo's story and continues into Honey Whiskey. Matty has lived two lives for very good reasons. It all has to do with the Bastards MC. In the beginning of Honey Whiskey we find that Matty and Jo are separated. Sad but true! Jo unexpectedly inserts herself into the lives of the Bastards MC. Which was never her intention, but some things happen for a reason. Jo finds herself living in Matty's home and even sleeping in his bed. The only thing she's missing is Matty. Well, not for long. Matty thought that he could live without Jo. He was dead wrong! Distance has made his heart grow fonder. When he finds her with the Bastards he is livid, but also relieved. He decides that some things you need to hold on to, no matter the risks. Love sometimes has other plans and fighting it is useless. Will Jo be able to handle the things from Matty's past? Will she be able to understand him or will fear separate them once again?

I loved the build up in the beginning of the story. Although I missed Matty in the beginning I enjoyed watching her bonds grow with the other MC members. It also made Matty's reappearance so much more rewarding. What started as friendship has just grown into something so wonderful. These two are each others one. Watching their relationship unfold was very exciting. I grew to want so many good things for them.

This story had so many amazing aspects love, mystery, and danger. Important questions were answered that remained true to the story as a whole. I was immersed from the beginning to the end. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Honey Whiskey is the continuation of Matty & Joes story. If you have not read Always Been Mine you will need to read it first HW is the sequel.

Matty & Joes have been best friends for 12 years. Matty has always loved her and he has known it as well as everyone close to him, except Joey. She on the other hand had to be told by her husband before she realized it. Fantastic, everyone knows happily ever after
..The end right? Yeah, ummm no we wouldn't have a book to read silly.

Matty has lived a double life and to keep his loved ones safe it needs to be kept a separate life. Joes knows nothing of Matty's Boston life, NONE of it, can she still love this Matty or has she just been a fool? Matty knows this is not the life for Joes and because of his love for her he knows he needs to let her go, for her he will do anything to keep her safe with her children even if it rips his heart out. Joey has other plans to move on with her life as a divorcee and go back to school. As Joey plans her future out with Matty's sister's help she arrives in Boston in the middle of Matty's dark side oblivious to the danger and the MC's current threat. What happens when Matty is surprised with Joes' new home and her stubborn will? Can these two finally open up to each other and be one unit or will "club business" & secrets forever separate them?

Very seldom do we find books with main characters in there 30's, divorced, & has had to overcome some adult ordeals but Carina did that brilliantly and I loved her even more for that. The love, passion, and loyalty these two have is amazing. A fantastic read!!! I am excited to read Rocker's story & what the hell is going on his his gorgeous brain! How does he bring along for the ride, YES RIDE IN ALL WAYS, Barbie or Princess.

This book follows on from Always Been Mine, which you really have to read to get into the mind-set of Jo and Matt’s characters.

All the questions I had at the end of book one, were answered in this book.

I really felt both Matt and Jo grew in this book. Obviously, Jo has left her husband and is in a relationship with Matt. She knows the real Matt, the Matt he has tried to keep hidden from most people because people were always out for what they could get from him. Not Jo. She loved him for him, and he for her. I really thought they worked hard to make things work.

Obviously an easy ride wouldn’t make a good story, so there were the spanners thrown into the mix.

I could see the angst Jo had as she tried to fit into the MC lifestyle. She showed great strength of character to adapt to something completely alien to her. She was also very brave to put her life on the line.

I felt this book really showcased Matt’s feelings for Jo.

I’m not a big fan of MC books but I have to say that each and every member of the club had their own personality and had their own personal reasons for being in the club. It was good to read about how a bunch of diverse people could all work together for the same goal.

This is a good series to get into if you like your hot alpha males, funny banter and pretty strong women.

Mag’s 4 Star Review:

Honey Whiskey is unlike anything I have ever read before. I won’t lie. The cover enticed me to read the synopsis. Anything with a man on a bike and the words MC has me intrigued, but once I read the description of the book and then Always Been Mine (Book One), which if you haven’t read you REALLY REALLY REALLY should, I knew I needed to read them.
Honey Whiskey starts off right where Always Been Mine stopped, and it picks up with a bang. I love how you get more than Jo’s pov in this book and we really get to know the other characters. Jo really surprised me in the second book. In Always Been Mine, I thought I had her pegged and then she spun me and in Honey Whiskey she twisted me around too. Matty is a really layered and interesting character. I loved him from the beginning of Always Been Mine. He just has that personality that makes you want to read more about him.
This is not my traditional review, due to the nature of the book; I can’t give too much away, but know I would defiantly recommend this book to any person!

Thankfully I didn't have to wait to read book 2 !! I love dual POV and I am thrilled to finally have Matty's POV !! He is panty melting hot !!!!!

Well now we find out from Matty's POV just what he has been thinking and feeling for years - then we move into the dual POV to continue on with our story. Matty has been living a double life - almost !! The things Matty has always tried to protect his loved ones from come out in full force now and we see just how bad boy he can be !! This makes the already rocky relationship with Joes even worse and can make it a little frustrating to read at times. All the things that you have been wondering , questioning now start piecing together and you may be shocked with some of the revelations. Not everything is as it seems and not everyone is who they seem to be. Joes and Will may have their life figured out and running smoothly with kids and locations BUT Matty's life with anyone is a tangled web. Can Joes and Matty survive ?? Again there are more than a few characters that I want more of - especially Rocker and Cris/Jessie !!

If you haven't read the first book Always Been Mine you will need to read it first, this is the sequel to Jo and Matty's story.

Jo and Matty fight each other on everything. Matty wants to keep Jo safe and Jo wants Matty to understand that she can take care of herself.

Matty has a past that he isn't proud of but one that he wouldn't change either. He and his MC club that Bastards are what has kept him going over the years. But if Jo finds out his past will she run and never look back. Matty doesn't know if he can take that chance. But Matty just needs to have a little faith.

Jo loves Matty for who he is. She doesn't know what he is keeping from her and when she gets some of the facts from Rocker, she realizes that she loves him whole heartedly and what he has done in the past he has done for reasons.

These two will drive you nuts but you will love them! I laughed and cried while reading this book and would recommend it to everyone. I can't wait to read Rockers story next!!!!
