Are You Falling for It?: An Olympus Novel

Rate this book
A playful, swoony romcom.

**Determined to break off an affair with her boss, a paralegal fake dates the bass guitarist of a popular rock band she met last year.**

If Olivia Quinn’s life were a trial, she’d be losing. She closed the book on the disappointing online dating scene only to end up in a secret relationship with one of the partners at her law firm… AKA the guy who signs her paychecks. And now her extracurriculars threaten her chances at the senior paralegal promotion she’s competing for.

When she runs into old acquaintance and rock bassist Peter Campbell at an engagement party for their two best friends she’s struck with an get her boss off her back by entering into a very fake, very public relationship with the laid-back musician.

Despite being the bassist in a multi-platinum rock band, Peter has always felt like a disappointment. Maybe this scheme will make his mom quit badgering him to settle down and prove to his hypercritical family he’s not the irresponsible, flighty guy they paint him as.

While she drags him to work events and he drags her to meet his family in LA, they find being friends first makes for an easy pretend relationship. Perhaps, a little too easy. But when things take a very un-platonic turn and Peter’s mom hints about their future, can Olivia fess up to how she feels or will she plead the fifth and flee?

I fell for “Are You Falling For It?” 🥰 This book is a romcom lover’s dream, and I didn’t want it to end. I was hooked from the beginning.

Olivia is such a relatable character and inspires you to be bold. Peter is the ULTIMATE book boyfriend. I love them both equally, and I rooted for them and their relationship from the beginning. And gonna be so real; Bruce is just hilarious (lowkey probably a sleeper for the best character in the book).

Pacing was perfect. The reader is thrown into the action (literally lmao) from the beginning and it doesn’t slow the entire 300 page journey. Get ready for a rollercoaster.

Rachel Pluck, you are a true talent! Another smash hit. 11/10. No notes, no critiques. Just praise! FLAWLESS!

SHE’S DONE IT AGAIN! Rachel’s first book is called “Are You In?” And was extremely fun to fall into. Peter and Olivia had been my favorite potential side pairing, and I was beyond thrilled when Rachel began exploring them a bit further. This book is beautiful, but also extremely relatable in the best and worst ways. Olivia made me feel so seen it was unbelievable, and her strengths and vulnerabilities are so genuinely relatable. The book is also hilarious and witty, and I can’t wait to see what Rachel writes next (hello can we get a Bruce book? I love him)

The second book in the Olympus series by Rachel Pluck is out today! Are You Falling for It? can be read as a standalone, but best enjoyed in order.

I was so ready for Quinn and Peter’s story!! Though we have fake dating trip, i felt Quinn and Peter to have such an authentic and adult relationship.Though I could only be banging my favorite band’s bassist in my wildest dreams, seeing the tough times and the conversations about love, the future, and friendships felt incredibly relatable—like things I’ve truly experienced myself. Pluck’s writing has blossomed and I can’t wait to see what she has in store next!

Add this on your summer TBR! While you’re at it, start dreaming of your L.A summer fling with rock god Peter

There is so much about this book that I just truly adored.

Olivia Quinn is a very strong and relatable FMC who the women that read this book can vibe with. She's smart and does so much for others, but forgets to strive for her own happiness... her own happy ever after.

Peter Campbell was patient with her, waiting for his moment and for her to 'come to her senses.' I imagined him as like Marshall from HIMYM, but in a band. 😄

I loved the banter, little quips, analogies, and references throughout.

Rachel, my friend, you did an excellent job. Again. 🥰 Thank you so much for letting me ARC read this. 👏👏

Olivia and Peter . . .

Olivia Quinn has been sleeping with her boss at the law firm. But she decides to break it off so she doesn’t ruin her chance for promotion to senior paralegal there. She joins an engagement party on The Monarch Hotel’s opulent rooftop terrace for her best friend Hannah Maxwell who tells her that her blouse is inside-out. She quickly fixes the problem, then takes her gift to the long table of gifts. Hearing a tapping on the window next to her, she sees her boss Bruce Westin again, wondering why he is here! He tries to get her to leave the party and come to him. She refuses but he calls her on his phone. But a tall stranger walks up behind her and startles her by asking if this was “work stuff”! She recognizes the bassist, Peter Campbell, from the groom’s band before her face breaks out in a beaming grin. Peter asks again if she is working “overtime” and she sees her boss is still there, glaring at Peter. She wraps her arm in his and invites him with her to sample the appetizers, seeing steam almost coming out of Bruce’s ears.

Apparently Bruce can’t believe anyone would want to actually dump him, so Olivia asks Peter to fake date her to prove that she has moved on. Fake dating would also help Peter keep his family from pressuring him as well. Their friendship deepens as they continue dating. Is Olivia at last ready to settle down? Or is she willing to walk away from the best thing to happen to her?

This was a fun fake dating book. She wants a boyfriend to get her boss off her back. Literally OFF her booty. He wants a girlfriend to get his family off her back.
Turns out they can mend rifts together and who knew they fit so well.
I would call this a medium to slow burn without too much spice. But all in all the book is good!. The one thing that kept confusing me was they would call her by her last name. Which felt odd when the boss boyfriend did it then the fake boyfriend did it. Like I could see the fake boyfriend because they are also friends. But the boss boyfriend too felt almost too intimate for the casual relationship.
There is no real bad guy in the book. And the only angst is really of their own creating which makes it a really lighthearted read.
The banter is a joy!

This is book 2 in Pluck's Olympus series and thankfully can be read as a standalone as I somehow missed book 1 - but again, no worries as I don't feel like I was missing anything with this one. A wonderful rom com that has everything you would want. Well written and captivating, this read has relatable and amazing characters, a smooth flowing storyline and of course the romance and humor. Our main characters are Olivia and Peter. Olivia has been involved with her boss and breaks things off for a chance at a promotion and reels in friend and rocker Peter to be her fake boyfriend who thinks he may have the benefit of getting his family off his back. A lighthearted romance that was just a delight to read! I think I may just have to go back and read book 1!

I really enjoyed reading Olivia and Peter's story. Olivia really wants a promotion at work, but she knows it means separating from her secret relationship with her boss. Although he just thinks she's just saying it so she decides a fake relationship with her friend will help. Peter is part of a band and travels for concerts and is used to the scrutiny his life brings. When he's asked to help his friend he cant really say No to her, but it may also help keep his family off his back. This is a brilliant story that is funny whilst at the same time shows the angst and differences between the pair. Can they fool everyone. Will Olivia have a chance at her promotion or will she see there is something better.

Are You Falling for It? is a sweet and funny take on the fake dating trope that delivers a light, enjoyable read. The humor is definitely one of the book’s strengths—I found myself smiling at the witty exchanges and playful moments throughout.

That said, it took a while for the story to really hook me. The beginning felt a bit slow, and it wasn’t until further in that I felt invested in the characters and their dynamic. Still, once it picked up, the chemistry between the leads and the nostalgic touches gave it some heart.

Overall, this is a cute rom-com that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you’re in the mood for something breezy with a few good laughs, it’s worth a try—just be patient with the slower start.

This is a cute Rockstar fake dating story. Olivia is a paralegal entangled in an office romance she wants out of as soon as possible. It just so happens that her best friend is getting married to the lead singer of a popular rock band. Which leads Olivia to spend more time with Peter, the bassist of the group. One crazy idea later, and they are fake dating. Thr more they get to know each other on a trip, the more the feelings get confused. Can they come to their sensed and give in or will they both be stubborn and go their separate ways? Such a good story.

I truly enjoyed this book! The characters are likable and I found myself rooting for their relationship from the jump. The story flowed at a nice pace and didn’t fall into any slumps. It’s a funny, not too spicy, easy, breezy read that’s perfect for summer. This is the second in the series but reads just fine as a standalone.
