What happens when a city girl buys a farm and moves to a small town in the middle of nowhere?

River didn’t know what to expect when she packed up and moved to Fires Creek, but she sure wasn’t expecting The Carter boys and their charm.

Jonas Carter was a stubborn, hardworking man with a heart of gold. The only biological child of the oldest family in town, he had a perfect reputation… Until she showed up.

Teddy James (Carter), was adopted into the Carter house when he was a teenager. A seductive, playboy and professional bull rider, Teddy was used to getting what he wanted... and what he wanted was her.

This sweet and spicy, taboo novella will leave you begging for more. Be a good girl, Peach.

Author Note: Fires Creek is written in Australian English. You may notice some minor spelling differences from US/UK English. Some of these that you may notice are: jewellery vs jewelry, dialled vs dialed and centre vs center. As Fires Creek is set in Australia, you’ll also find interesting slang and cultural references.

MMF Cowboy Novella! This was 3.5 Stars for me.

Let me start by saying, this is a novella so don't go in expecting to read plot. This is a fast paced, full spice story and almost non-existent plot. This story follows two brothers who are a foreman of a ranch and meet their new boss, a fiery red head who makes impulsive decisions including buying this ranch.

Like I said, this is fast paced. If you are wanting to read full cowboy MMF smut, pick this puppy up. I would have loved this group as a full story but these three have instant attraction towards each other and act on it.

Fires Creek was a decent read — atmospheric and moody with a setting that really pulled me in. The mystery had enough tension to keep me turning pages, and the small-town vibes worked well.
That said, some of the pacing dragged, and a few character choices felt a little forced. By the end, the resolution tied things up, but not in a way that left me completely satisfied.

Fires Creek 🔥🤠🍑
It’s hard to believe this is a debut for D.M Henderson! Her descriptive writing took me directly to the farm and surrounded me in this adorable little Australian town.
The story quickly delved into the spice and it did not disappoint. What I enjoyed was the way the MMCs came together after pining for each other for years and they just effortlessly fell into this comfortable throuple with River. She was the perfect connector for these men, in more ways than one 😉 The three of them exploring their sexuality and sexual desires together with trust and care that eventually bloomed into love ❤️
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella, speeding through it in an afternoon. Definitely a must read for your TBR!

This was such a good short palette cleanser!

There was enough plot, enough spice, and enough character that it all worked well together ! The backstories for the mmc’s were fantastic, and I loved hearing more about them.

The fmc was easy to get along with and felt really good between the 2 brothers.

Watching both of the men finally get what they want, in each other and with the fmc, was adorable, and refreshing, even in the short span that was this story. It was instalove but I still loved it!

Thank you so much to the author and team for allowing me to read an advanced copy!

I have just finisgrd an ARC read of this. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. I feel like if it had been a full-length novel, the potential for the plot and for it to be actually good would be there. For me, I feel like the author decided to write a novella and fill it full of sex scenes (bad and repetitive ones at that) just because spice/smut is a popular read now. I have arc read a lot of books now, and this one is one of the worst I've read. I don't often give 1 star reviews, and tbh this is only getting 1 star because I give any lower. To each their own but this one just wasn't for me. The only good thing about it was Jonas realising and accepting who he is. I actually think this would have been better without the FMC.

A fun, short, spicy novella, filled with humour, love, and a lot of acceptance. Ever since River stepped into Teddy and Jonas’ lives, the three of them were inseparable. Teddy and Jonas had always had an eye on each other, without ever speaking their thoughts and feelings aloud. But when River arrived, it was as if everything suddenly made sense, and felt right.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story. Although I missed a deeper connection between them, which made it all feel a bit random, I still ate this novella up in basically one sitting. It was hot, and the characters were the perfect mix of broody, fun and loving.

Thank you so much D. M. Henderson for the early ARC!

I loved how the MMCs finally came together after years of longing, then so naturally slipped into a comfortable throuple with River. She was their missing piece (and them, hers). Watching the three of them explore their sexuality and desires with so much trust and care, and having that grow into love, was a joy.

The backstories for the MMCs were fantastic, and I really enjoyed getting to know more about them and how they came to be at Fires Creek. I did find myself wishing for a bit more emotional depth between them, but honestly, I devoured this novella anyway. It was hot, fun, and the characters were the perfect balance of flirty, grumpy, playful, and loving. The descriptions were on point too, tattoos, piercings, outfits, bodies, even down to the taste of whiskey and cigarettes.

Seeing the men finally get what they’d always wanted, in each other and with the FMC, was refreshing especially in such a short format. Yes, it was instalove, but it worked.

Huge congrats on your debut, D.M. Henderson! After binging 4 to 5 books and over 2,000 pages, this was the perfect palate cleanser, short, steamy, and completely different from what I’d been reading.

What’s it about?
River packs all her things, buys an Australian farm, and moves from the city to start the next phase of her life. She wasn’t prepared for sharing the farmhouse with two hot, charming cowboy brothers, Jonas and Teddy, who have been running the ranch for decades.

My Thoughts:
This novella packs a lot in for a short piece of writing. For a debut novel, I was impressed with the writer’s descriptions of life on an Australian farm and their use of Aussie language added to the story’s authenticity. Watching the way that River, Jonas and Teddy come together and accept their attraction as well as their new relationship so swiftly was inspiring. The chapters from Jonas’ point of view exploring the challenges he has keeping up his hard working, clean cut image while denying his attraction to Teddy added depth to his character and tugged on your heartstrings.

With overall themes of discovering and becoming your true self and accepting people for who they are, this super spicy novella presents a beautiful, although perhaps a little idealistic, vision of a person’s bi-awakening. I feel like the story lost a bit in character and plot development by being confined to the novella length and would love to see it expanded into a full length novel and edited more carefully. If you’re looking for a small town romance that’s also a sizzling read with tropes such as forced proximity, bi-awakenings, why choose and strangers to lovers add this to your TBR now!

The way this book had me in a chokehold! What I thought was going to be a “couple chapters and back to bed” turned into there was absolutely NO way I was putting it down till I was finished!!! And now here I am at 5 am, looking like a crazy lady on all D.M’s socials praying there’ll be a hint for a book two on these three!!!

The spice? PERFECTION! The story? PERFECTION! The character art of River?!?! Oh. My. Good. Lord..! Perfection!

I loved Hannah’s little random pick up and acceptance! Brought tears to my eyes!

I also love that they weren’t afraid to express & explore! This book all around will be a new comfort read!

D.M Henderson was a literal genius for this one so don’t mind me while I go find all the books a crazy read.

ARC Review

A very fast paced and spicy romance. This was my first ever stand alone Novella so I wasn’t sure what to expect going in.

This was a forbidden love story where two step brothers - Jenson & Teddy finally explore their feelings towards each other. Emotions and feeling that were kept under wraps for 15 years bubbled to the surface when their new boss/landlord arrives.

River is a city girl and didn’t know what she got herself into, but the moment she laid eyes on Jenson and Teddy she knew exactly what she wanted.

I enjoyed the storyline but with being such a short story it lacked a bit of depth. I prefer more angst and slow burn but I know being a novella that’s not usually the intention.

Read if you like
- MMF romance
- small town
- forbidden love
- cowboys
- spice

Fires Creek was the perfect short and smutty novella. River breaks up her boyfriend, gets wine drunk and buys a farm. What could go wrong?
Jonas and Teddy are adoptive brothers living and working on the farm and when River arrives, the sparks fly. Teddy and Jonas have been secretly pining for the other but River opens them up to explore relationships between all of them.

“Fires Creek” is a darker themed cowboy romance is best described as sweet, sinful and scorchingly spicy. After a very bad night that involved breaking up with her fiancé and drinking a bottle of wine on her own, she wakes up to find out that she has bought a property. “Not to be missed, the infamous Ashwood Manor. If you’re looking for adventure, head on down to Fires Creek and check out this pristine property!” In the light morning, she has bought a farm! Turning up with coffee, she meets her employees, Jonas and his “brother” Teddy. River was definitely not what they were expecting…..”Her wild, auburn hair was vivid and captivating against her porcelain skin. The waves of red rested messily against the black fabric that covered her neck and shoulders….”

In less than a day, things heat up between them all…. Once I started reading, I could not put this book down! This book will charm “the pants off you” and leave you going back for more 😊 I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful but kinky love story. This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. From page to page, chapter to chapter, from cover to cover - you will enjoy this beautiful story! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊

I had to force myself to finish this novella.

The writing was repetitive and uninteresting, the characters had no personality or traits setting them apart from others. Jonas, Teddy and River immediately started referring to each other as “mine” or “ours” and it felt so forced and weird to me. The characters didn’t feel as if they had absolutely any romantic or sexual chemistry and it made reading the novella very boring.

I will be keeping this book on my shelf but only because my copy is signed.

Had the honour of reading this as an ARC reader.

This novella …wow just wow.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️and ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s short, sweet and extremely spicy.

The MF/MMF/MM/MFM reverse harem trope is in full effect.

River, Teddy and Jonas made the perfect trio, who spend time discovering themselves and each other sexually.

The tropes are non stop reverse harem, voyeurism, one bed, one bath, pierced /inked FMC, cowboy MMCs, Bi awakening and so many more

Wishing this was a full novel it’s so good
Definitely worth an add to your smutty TBR

You know that book, that you get, and you finish it the day you get it, this is that book!

Follow River as this city girl adjusts to life on the farm, and life with Jonas and Teddy! Their new home, their new love and their new lifestyle is everything she didn't know she needed. Strap on your boots, this is one wild, sexy ride!

When River accidentally buys a farm one drunken night after kicking her cheating boyfriend to the curb, she wakes up the next morning wondering if it really happened. Surprise, it did. After meeting with Link the realtor, River follows through with her purchase, leaving the big city and her life there behind to start new in Fires Creek. Being a city girl, she was most definitely expecting a change of lifestyle, but I don't think she was expecting this BIG of a change in lifestyle! Stepbrothers, One Bed/One Tub, Why Choose, Pet Names, this book has it all! Not to mention real life, pets! (Alex the dog, cows and horses)
Check your trigger warnings and grab yourself a cold drink, you're gonna need it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A hot and spicy cowboy romance that is a phenomenal quick read! It's high spice, low plot but drama-free and so worth the read!

The book has 3 POVs and switches timelines from past to present so you get a glimpse into the character's pasts.

If you are a lover of open-door, MMF romance, this book is certainly one I'd recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cowboys, chaos, and chemistry that doesn’t ask for permission… 🔥

Fires Creek is a very short, spicy cowboy romance that leans heavily into instalust, found family, and small-town acceptance, delivering an easy, quick read with more heat than depth.

Six months before the story begins, River impulsively buys an old farmhouse in Fires Creek after ending her engagement to a cheating fiancé. The purchase is made while she’s drunk and emotionally raw, setting the stage for a fresh start far from her old life.

Fourteen years earlier, Teddy was a rising bull-riding star who had already won two titles. While competing for his third, a devastating fall ended his career. During his hospital stay, he met Mrs Carter and her son Jonas, who was nineteen at the time. Teddy, emancipated at just twelve and without next of kin, was taken in by Mrs Carter. From the beginning, both young men were keenly aware of each other’s physical presence, laying the groundwork for what would later surface.

In the present day, River is 32, Teddy is 30, and Jonas is 33. When River arrives at the farmhouse, she does so with confidence—and coffee in hand. The chemistry is immediate. Teddy shamelessly checks her out, and what begins as an offer to help her unpack quickly turns into something far more intimate. Jonas watches, openly admiring the connection between them. A storm plunges the farmhouse into darkness, forcing them to navigate both the night and their desires without the comfort of modern conveniences.

In the aftermath, Teddy and Jonas finally confront what they’ve both been holding back for years. Their connection deepens, and River becomes part of that bond rather than an outsider. The trio share an intense night together, unsure of what the next day will bring.

The following morning brings reassurance rather than regret. Jonas attempts to cook—unsuccessfully—before Teddy joins him, confirming that nothing from the night before is being ignored. After waking River, the three work together to repair storm damage on the property. Later, River steps aside to give Teddy and Jonas space to explore what they mean to each other.

A trip into town introduces the wider Fires Creek community. At the diner, the owner Hannah quickly clocks their dynamic. She makes it clear that no one in town will object to the boys being together. River is told to look after Teddy and Jonas, and they will look after her in return.

Eight months later, the trio are blissfully happy, living together as a unit. River settles into farm life and becomes a competent rider. They attend the local “book club,” which turns out to be more of a karaoke-and-drinks night that has evolved into a monthly town-wide party. Fires Creek fully accepts them as they continue to grow and explore their relationship.

The story concludes eighteen months after River buys the farm. While out on a three-day muster, the three relax together in a creek at sunset. The way the light reflects on the water makes it look like fire—giving Fires Creek its name. They are content, settled, and happy, neatly wrapping up the short novel.

Overall, Fires Creek delivers exactly what it promises: a quick, spicy cowboy romance with strong themes of acceptance and chosen family. The plot moves at a rapid pace but it’s an enjoyable, low-commitment read for those looking for heat, heart, and a happily-ever-after in a small-town setting.

This is just a little bit of smutty, fluffy goodness that screams 'save a horse; ride a cowboy!'. Or two, as the case may be! A quick read novella, it does everything you want it to in a bite-sized format, getting down to business (in more ways than one) and letting the characters tell you their story.

Everything moves at lightening pace; from the initial set up (which is empowering and hilarious in equal measure), to our main character River rolling up at Fires Creek and finding her surroundings very much to her liking, to the relationship development between her, Jonas and Teddy. In places it does perhaps lack some depth because of the pacing, but at the same time you do get some wonderful glimpses of backstory and character history that covers for some of this. It's definitely a book for a passenger princess reader - just sit back, shut your brain off and enjoy.

Each character has their own draw; all are immensely likeable for different reasons and the dynamic between them works well. I'm personally a big fan of the brooding Jonas, but he's just my kinda book boyfriend. I particularly enjoyed the exploration of Jonas' sexuality and his underlying attraction to Teddy; again, although the pace didn't really allow for his desire to build in the same way as a full length novel, the flashbacks and references to their lives pre-River really allowed me to sink into their relationship. It also really makes me happy when I read stories where relationships like theirs are just accepted with no fuss or questions. That might be the most fictional part of the book, but it feels incredibly real (and is how it should be!!!).

There is a plot, but this book isn't really about the journey and it's definitely not the focus. So to some extent it feels more like a series of glimpses into the characters' lives. There's definitely scope for it if the story were to be extended, and I'd definitely be open to reading a chunkier version in the future!

And on a personal note, any author who slips a Doctor Who reference into their romance book automatically gets a huge cheer from me! 😁

A fab debut, and I look forward to reading more in the future!

Fires Creek is a fiery hot cowboy romance that had me hooked from the very first page 😍 River’s move from the city to a farm sets off an absolute swirl of heat, tension, and undeniable chemistry! The banter, tension, heat, and spice between the characters is chef’s kiss 🖤

I adored River’s character and her fiery personality 🖤 She was so bold, and her teasing and banter with Jonas and Teddy was something else! The start of her story had me giggling, and I really enjoyed watching her fit in so easily in Fires Creek with Jonas and Teddy. She has a strong connection with both men, but she also happily lets them have their own time and moments together, and I love that side of her, especially her actions, sheeeesh 🥵🖤

Jonas is a hardworking, good hearted cowboy, with a dirty, delicious little secret 🤭 When River enters his life, everything changes of course! Their connection is instant, and sparks fly as they try and navigate their growing attraction and all that it brings 🖤 She brings out a different side of him that he’s kept hidden, and it is fantastic 🥵

Teddy on the other hand adds another thick layer (👀) of intensity to the story 🔥 His seductive charm and fearless, bold personality make him absolutely impossible to ignore, and his pull to River is strong and red hot! Just like Jonas, Teddy has been keeping his own little secret that he finally gets to reveal once River enters their lives and shakes things up 🖤

The dynamic, banter, and connection between River, Jonas, and Teddy is electric, filled with tension, passion, heat, and that touch of forbiddenness that is oh so delicious 😍 The writing is great, and I loved the spicy plot that also had softer, emotional, and some more intimate undertones blended in perfectly—The ending is especially heartwarming!! 🥰🖤

Henderson - Just WOW!!!!

When I tell you this story was a fast burn but so much more, I mean it lit a match in my heart and refused to go out. Fires Creek was the perfect mix of everything: plot, spice, and just the right amount of character development to bring it all full circle.

After breaking up with her boyfriend, getting wine drunk, and on a whim buying a farm in, where else, the middle of nowhere Fires Creek, River steps right into the lives of Jonas and Teddy. River is literally the missing puzzle piece Jonas and Teddy didn’t even realize they were waiting for, and watching them click into place was pure magic.

I absolutely adored seeing Jonas finally admit to himself and everyone else exactly who he was. It wasn’t just a revelation for him, it was a victory for every reader rooting for his happiness from page one. The way these three love each other had me smiling like a lunatic, swooning at my Kindle, and fanning myself in equal measure. And yes… I will shamelessly admit I have already re-read this book.

This sweet and spicy, deliciously amazing (taboo) novella will leave you begging for more. D.M. Henderson has such an incredible gift for weaving emotion and heat together without sacrificing story, and she proves that her characters will live rent free in your head long after you turn the last page. Honestly, Henderson you didn’t just write a book you crafted an experience!

You’ll probably enjoy Fires Creek if you like:
• Erotic romance / spicy novels
• Romance with tension, a bit of danger or taboo
• Small-town or rural settings
• Love triangles / contrasts between stable vs wild-card romantic leads
• Stories about new beginnings, identity change, and family dynamics

If you prefer:
• Clean, PG-level romance or modest romance
• Deep side plots, broad worldbuilding, or very slow-burn subtleties
• Minimal sexual content
• Something understated rather than dramatic

… then this might not be your cup of tea.

Given its genre and what it promises, Fires Creek succeeds well. If I were to rate it (in its genre), it’s strong: engaging, appropriately spicy, with compelling romantic tension. It may not break new ground, but it delivers solidly for what it aims to be.

If you tell me what you like / dislike in romance or erotica (how spicy, slow-burn vs fast, etc.), I can help you decide more precisely whether Fires Creek is one you’ll really love. Interested in that? Fires Creek is an unapologetically spicy, small-town cowboy novella that’s perfect as a palate cleanser or a surefire way to break out of a reading slump! D.M. Henderson’s debut delivers a heady mix of tension, steam, and heart, all wrapped up in a bite-sized package you’ll want to devour in one sitting; and I would have, if not for kids & life getting in the way!

When a city girl meets Carter chaos… 💥🌾

Okay… who gave D.M. Henderson the right to deliver this much heat, heart, and holy chaos in a single novella? Fires Creek is a wild, spicy, emotional ride that starts off with a simple move to the countryside and ends with you panting like you’re the one stuck in a mountain manor storm with two Carter boys.

Jonas was the loyal, golden boy next door, and Teddy? Straight up a storm in human form—a tattooed, pierced, bull-riding troublemaker who’s used to getting exactly what he wants… and that’s River.

This one has all the tropes I didn’t know I needed at once:
🤠 Cowboy MMCs
💋 Pierced FMC
🛏️ One Bed (and it gets used)
🛁 One Giant Bath
💥 Toys
💗 MMF/MF/MFM goodness
🌈 Bi-awakening
🏡 Small-town, taboo romance
📚 Multi POV & cowboy spice

It’s short, it’s filthy, it’s emotional, and surprisingly wholesome in its own way. The dynamic between River, Jonas, and Teddy felt raw, messy, and earned by the end.

Big shoutout to Alex the German Shepherd, the real MVP of the farm.

I can’t wait to read what DM Henderson writes next—what a way to burst onto the scene! Thank you so much to DM Henderson and Misha Taylor (PA) for this ARC. I’m beyond honored to have read it early. Congratulations again!

Fires Creek by D.M. Henderson
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Stepbrothers • Cowboys • MMF • Voyeurism • Bi-curiosity • Poly • Found family • Multiple timelines • 112 pages

This book was such a fast read—I devoured it in two sittings only because sleep got in the way. From the very first page, it was captivating. The story moves quickly (maybe a little too quickly, because honestly, I could’ve read 100 more pages of these three and their shenanigans!). Still, it felt perfect, and I cannot believe this is the author’s debut novel. Well done!

I loved how every detail mattered—little things you thought were just throwaway descriptions ended up weaving back in later, keeping me fully hooked. The multiple timelines added so much depth, with glimpses into each character’s past that painted them beautifully—physically, emotionally, and dimensionally (yes, they were very nicely fleshed out).

Technically the brothers are stepbrothers, so it’s only as taboo as you choose to read it. But watching their relationship grow alongside Nicole—an absolute badass FMC who takes what she wants and runs with it—was such a joy. She was the perfect catalyst to bring it all together.

And I have to mention: nerdy fandom references!  I grinned so hard at the Doctor Who nod (10th Doctor forever ✨).

I don't normally read this sort of book but I gave it a chance to get out of a reading slump I have been in for months and I absolutely fell in love with the characters. The imagery in the book is very vivid and the way the characters describe each other is so beautiful. You can really feel what they feel for each other, it warms your heart. I love how the characters are fully fleshed out with their own unique back stories and then when their paths start to intertwine, they all have to navigate through complex feelings in order to figure out who they are and who they want to be. It is a 4/5 on the spice scale and I love that the spice takes nothing away from the plot, it just adds so much more emotion to it. You form a link with the characters early on and this makes their emotions and feelings for each other so much more intense. Jonas and Teddy will instantly become your favourite cowboys and are great book boyfriend candidates (if you're into that). It is such an amazing debut from this author and I cannot wait to see what comes next from her. This will not be the last time I read this book. Cannot recommend this book enough.

In a drunken moment, River makes a split-second decision that changes her life. Now leaving the city behind, she finds herself in Fires Creek—where she’s about to meet the Carter boys, and she is in for a ride.

This novella doesn’t waste time. It’s fast, flirty, and built for dopamine. River’s voice is sharp and confident, and Teddy Carter—the adopted bad boy bull rider—is all swagger and soft edges. Jonas, the golden boy older brother, adds tension without dragging the plot into a triangle.

The taboo angle is handled with a wink, not a lecture.

The spice hits early and stays consistent. There’s no slow burn here—just high heat, emotional payoff, and cowboy chaos with a soft heart. The setting adds texture, the slang feels lived-in, and the romance delivers without unnecessary angst.

Tropes
City girl buys a farm
Cowboy chaos (bull rider + golden boy brothers)
Found family
Adopted sibling romance (taboo-lite)
One bed, insta-lust, possessive alpha

Trigger Warnings
Explicit sexual content
Taboo themes (adopted sibling romance)  Mild language
Parental abandonment

This is such a sweet and adorable Australian Cowboy story. This novella does exactly what the author intended for it. It is a sweet, spicy, low drama, and HEA guaranteed story. This book is meant to be fun and not taken too seriously. I feel like it is the perfect little novella to have fun reading. We all need a cute and fun story from time to time. I feel like this book accomplished that. It was well written and the characters were well developed. I love how the author gave us little sneak peaks of Teddy and Jonas's past. Not only as their friendship developed but also what lead them to be in each others lives. I feel like we got to see parts of their story that were important to telling their story and their journey. If your looking for a fun, low drama, quick read this book is definitely the one for you. It is fun and enjoyable. It will make you smile and swoon. The guys and Rivers relationship is chefs kiss. They each have a relationship as a group and as individuals. I feel like River allowed the guys to develop the relationship they were always meant to have with each other. She helped nudge them to be everything they could be and more. I also loved that the town embraced their relationship and did not care about how they chose to live their lives. I love all the cute little ways the town supported the entire group.
