is it the mission of the strong to protect the weak; what is the value of life compared to another, and where do the obligations of the powerful begin?

a great dungeon leads to the volunteer of 1203 hunters. of 1203 individuals, only 4 return.

our darling yoon seo is one of those survivors; and the world desperately seeks to uncover his whereabouts after his 10-year disappearance. he’s plagued with a desire for death, yet bound by the wills left by his comrades—in a sense, they are manifestations of their dreams for his future. they’re ridiculous wills that consider his lifestyle, health, and hobbies—the last wishes of the deceased that hoped for the youngest hunter to live a long and good life.

i didn’t appreciate the insistence of the world in trying to drag him back into the spotlight, burdening him with responsibility as he suffers extreme ptsd, has a heavy reliance of medication, and longs for an end. but, he possesses a heroic characteristic. the requirement of becoming a hunter is as such: only a good person can become awakened (which i found really lovely! no longer does kindness serve as a weakness, but it is the foundation of strength)

the development in the relationship with him and kwon jihan is very natural. it comes as easily as the tide, creeping slowly up without our realizing until we’re knee deep in water. kwon jihan is young, a little immature, but extremely justice-orientated and cares deeply for yoon seo.

anyway! it marks the requirements for hunter-esque BL:
1) sacrificial/mentally ill mc
2) overpowered characters
3) contemplation of life and morality

please read if you want a story interspersed with comedy while balancing life-and-death tension, an emotional backstory, a realistic view of ptsd (in consideration to his mindset, habits) and a delightful romance that builds on admiration and then reliability and affection.

3.5 rounded up.
There were many things I didn't like about this novel but there were also many things I did like.

What I liked:
- The overall plot. The way the author managed to create a believable setting in this overused premised.
- YOON SEO MY BABY! The way his struggle with survivor's guilt and depression was shown. The author took a lot care in building his character and it was noticeable, he's incredibly well fleshed out.
- Riceball.
- The OG Revengers and the plot twist involving the Gaia Skills.
- The slow paced romance that was believable at least from Kwon Jihan's side.
- The ORV looking gods and their chat logs. Hilarious.
- How earth ppl prevailed in their scientific research even tho magic is now a thing. The science aspect to explain a lot of the worldbuilding was very interesting too.
- That fucking deus ex machina ending.

What I didn't like:
- How the ML and his guild barged into Yoon Seo's life, violated his privacy, ignored his wishes and consent just because they felt righteous over saving the world? And then they felt guilty for feeding the PTSD of a war Hero but since it was justified this gets brushed of? I AM SORRY, WHAT????
- The way everyone felt like it was ok to trample over Yoon Seo just because they needed him and afterwards they felt guilty so that made everything ok!
- The disrespect Yoon Seo had to go through and how NOT A SINGLE CHARACTER could respect his wishes.
- Every side character, like literally every single one.
- The amount of inteneded self-sacrifice from the MC & ML.
- How unexplored the skill system and gods blessing was. Specially in Jwon Jihan's case.
- That fucking deus ex machina ending.

Things that I am "meh" about:
- Just like TEIO did with China, and hollywood with USA this novel does with Korea. Both bif expeditions had 50%+ slots filled with Korean hunters because they're just that superb lol (let's guess what would've happened if the novel was japanese? lol).
- Hunter's of the world were literally useless, without Korea we are literally fucked.
- Only "good people" could awaken. Sorry, what? The level of philosophical analysis this requires is off the roof but this premise is just there and rarely addressed.

not sure if there's more. Overall the worldbuilding of this novel is very solid and the MC development too. Is just every other thing around this two things that didn't work out for me entirely.
This people were so selflessly good that ended up being entirely to selfish and it was painful to read.

ps: I think this is the Manhwa first volume, There's no entry for the novel on good reads so I took this as a placeholder.

I don't remember the last time I cried so much while reading a novel, but Yoon Seo had me sobbing into my sleeves at 4AM because my heart was breaking for him. So did Kwon Ji-han as he slowly uncovered Yoon Seo's secrets, which made me cry even more.

What do you do when the kindest person you met has become traumatized and disillusioned with the world and what it means to be righteous? You cry some more and start helping him share his worries and sorrows. And it was a wild ride. Interspersed with all of the trauma and depression was a tightly paced plot with enough fluff and humor to even out the tension as well.

I don't think I could ever write a review that will ever do this series justice. Just know that I enjoyed this series immensely and will probably reread it again for Yoon Seo, Kwon Ji-Han, and Riceball. I am definitely going to read the manhwa after I take a little break lol.

I couldn't find this book earlier this year so I had written my review on a sticky note lol.

My review:

DUDE this was insane! so, so good. MC was such a well written character with so much depth, just incredible. ML was a sweetheart and I loved them together. Plot was devastating and so entertaining. so well done.

End of sticky note review.

Just wanted to add, although I don't remember much, I vividly remember how devastatingly beautiful this was. Like it hurt so bad it was good. Poor poor ML, i was genuinely crying at the end. I wish the two of them all the happiness in the world. And God bless MC's friends. What they did for him, a very few people would be willing to try for the sack of someone they care for.
