Chicagoland Is Breaking Records This Week, But It Took A Latte Luck!
Quinn Hayes, business owner and full-time barista, knows a thing or two about the espresso-based drink.
Rather, she knows all about it.
Quinn's the latest local coffee shop owned and operated as a small restaurant hasn't hit the mark despite Hayes' impeccable cup or saving her customers an occasional buck.
Although, we have it on good authority that she phoned a friend for some help. Chicago's favorite food blogger, Sophie Richter, has lucked her way into the kitchen.
As lucky as she may be—an inside tip wonders if she can handle the heat. But full service with no reward makes for a boringly tame St. Patrick's Day exposé.
And we know that's not possible when you have both lattes & luck.
Very cute and spicy! 🔥 I enjoyed it I liked the trope strangers to friends to lovers because it makes me think of my own love story. I also liked the idea of it kinda being a St Patrick’s day romance. But I’m also a barista so all the coffee drinks sounded so good I wanted to try them myself!!
Thank you to author H.B. Cliffy for an e-ARC of this title to read and review. I read this over the days leading up to this St. Patrick's Day, and it was really cool that those dates were the ones referenced in the book itself - definitely atmospheric and fun for the holiday. This is book two of the Chicago Sapphics series and I would definitely go back and read that one now because I'm interested and the characters are referenced in this story, but the book works just as well as a standalone.
I thought this book was really well-written, with great pacing and an engaging storyline, which is why I'm going to check out the first book and am looking forward to the next installment in the series. It's spicy and insta-love-y, which works for the shorter length (~200 pages) because we get right to the romance and characters' connection. There are enough conflicts to keep things interesting without the whole book being full of problems or toxic characters, which works for me! I also found myself really rooting for the characters, as in I wanted them to be together and also pursue their dream careers - I wanted to see it all play out on-page (rather than just be told) and it so did that.
A few major details didn't do it for me, and really took me out of an otherwise great story. First, I couldn't really picture Sophie as a food blogger in 2025 that has *so* much local influence - even though it was eventually said she's been doing it for years, it's pretty central to the plot and I felt like other platforms would have long taken this over or been part of an overall media empire (like TikTok or YouTube - or even more old school like being a journalist at news channels etc.) and be more instantly influential for hyping up businesses. (BTW I am still very pro-blog and know lots of people are finding great success but I just don't believe this 20-something would have been recognized in the city streets without a solidly established social media presence, y'know?) Beyond that, the multiple instances of spicy food play throughout the story was 1) definitely not for me but also 2) didn't really follow for these two very passionate food professionals who would be really specific about their kitchen space?? Like I said, these things just took me out of the story and kept popping back up, so I encountered those feelings several times.
H.B. Cliffy’s Lattes & Luck (Chicago Sapphics Book Two) delivers the perfect blend of sweetness and spice in this charming St. Patrick’s Day–themed novella. The story follows Quinn, a passionate redheaded café owner who puts her heart into every latte she crafts, and Sophie, a vivacious blonde who adores exploring local eateries for her flavor-packed blog. From their very first meeting, sparks fly—though it’s not just Sophie’s taste buds that find themselves enchanted.
Cliffy deftly weaves heartwarming moments with playful banter, creating a cozy, romantic backdrop at Quinn’s café. The chemistry between these two leading ladies unfolds naturally, brimming with both emotional depth and simmering tension. A welcome touch is the appearance of Sophie’s supportive sisters, adding familial warmth and a fun nod to the previous Chicago Sapphics love story. Their involvement never overshadows Quinn and Sophie’s connection but instead enhances the sense of community and belonging.
A standout element of this novella is how it balances a sweet, tender storyline with scenes that spark genuine heat. Perfectly paced and utterly endearing, Lattes & Luck is an ideal pick for fans of short-and-sweet sapphic romances. Whether you’re drawn in by the dreamy café setting or the irresistible holiday cheer, this is a must-read treat for anyone craving a heartfelt love story.
Y'all if you want a book series that keeps your spice desires incognito in public...it is these absolute sleepers in this 5 book series. The covers are sweet as sugar but the contents are absolute fire. Do what you will with that information...
Hot dang, this one takes place over St. Patrick's day, as if the cover didn't give it away.
This novella is a dual POV in the first person, with a friend's to lovers approach. We met Sophie and Quinn in the first book and their story takes off from the first meet!
The two MC's had great chemistry and I initially read them as being these two innocent, shy gals but then they had sex for the first time and shit popped off and never really relaxed. The Richter girls don't mess around when they want something. Allegedly this isn't even the spiciest one...
Quinn can whip up the meanest latte in Chicago and Sophie is the foodie to rival them all, it's a match made in heaven and their journey is reflective of it. Very low angst with the luck of the season helping them out!
Stay tuned for the next one which I hear is a Mother's Day treat!
ARC review. Sophie is a food blogger in Chicago. We meet her in Feb, when she visits a cafe owned by Quinn. Both are taken with each other but Sophie rejects Quinn to keep things professional. They’re in constant contact as Quinn works on a St. Patrick’s day menu. When the hype threatens to overwhelm the small cafe, can the two work their situationship out despite the stress test?
This is a short but very spicy read. I like the groundwork laid at the beginning that allows the pacing to move fast without feeling entirely improbable. Sophie’s heart comes from a good place, but she’s focusing on Quinn’s cafe in a chance to avoid her own issues and causes unintentional damage. Quinn is great—she’s both vulnerable and tough. She gives her all in her little cafe and isn’t too proud to admit when she’s messed up. There’s a good amount of food/utensil spice. But there’s also great overall messaging about pursuing what truly makes you happy.
Duel 1st Person POV. 4.5🌟 4🌶️. 216 pages Lattes & Luck is the second book in the Chicago Sapphics series. A series of standalone, yet loosely interconnected novellas that each follows 1 of 5 sisters as they fall in love.
Book 2 follows Quinn a confident and sassy café owner and Sophie a food blogger who’s fed up with her career path, as they go from strangers, to friends to lovers over the span of a month. It’s a slower burn than the first book in the series, but by no means is this a slow burn book.
There’s tension, miscommunication, sexual tension, and a heavy dose of kitchen spice, with the inappropriate use of utensils.
If you like quick burn, high heat, short stories, then I would definitely recommend the Chicago Sapphics series as a whole.
Must read if you LOVE: ✨Holiday Romance ✨Strangers to Friends to Lovers ✨Fast Burn ✨Slight Miscommunication ✨Sexual Tension ✨Erotic Food Play ✨Inappropriate use of Kitchen Utensils
Oh my, I found it extremely difficult to put this book down. This was a fun, sassy, quirky, quick, and spicy🔥🔥🔥🔥 read.
First, I would like to say that the book preceding this one, and this installment can be read as standalones, which is ideal. Second, I enjoy the fact that the series revolves around a family of sisters, with each book focusing on one of them finding love. Last, I love the holiday theme incorporated into the books. Soph and Quinn are an adorable couple, and I am now a fan of the stranger-friends-lovers trope. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their journey to love. This novella is a must-read, and I definitely recommend it!
Thank you so much, H.B. Cliffy, for gifting me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a review💚🖤 I am definitely a fan, and you are surely becoming one of my favorites.
Thank you so much to H.B. Cliffy for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This book is such a fun, cute, quick read! I’m a sucker for a spicy sapphic AND BOY DOES THIS HAVE IT. This book is very cheesy and corny, but it’s meant to be exactly that. It’s a perfect book to read for a weekend, or even a day, if all you want is swoon vibes and a good time.
Since it is so short, there isn’t much build up to anything that happens. As soon as they meet they are infatuated with each other, and every conflict is solved almost immediately. I do think it could have benefited by being a bit longer, and allowed for more character growth.
Overall this was an entertaining and adorable read with a cutesy romance, and I had a good time!
Lattes & Luck is the second book in the Chicago Sapphics book series. You don't have to read the first book (Working with Cupid) in order to get into the second book. (Although,I highly recommend reading the first.)
I loved the strangers to friends to lovers trope. Sophie and Quinn were made for each other. I was rooting for these two from the moment Sophie tried one of Quinn's lattes. This book has minimum strife and maximum spice. Definitely for the 18+ reader.
Lattes and Luck is part of the interconnected stand-alone Chicago Sapphics series, and this time it’s Sophie’s turn! This series is so cute and the characters all love each other so so much. There’s the main relationships, but the friendships and sisters are also just amazing. I loved every second of this novella, and I’ll be not only checking out the first book, Working with Cupid, but waiting (impatiently) for the third that will be coming for Mother’s Day. Highly recommend!
This book is quite possibly the cutest sapphic rom-com I’ve ever read. We’re talking St. Patrick’s Day Hallmark movie vibes, only with lesbians and way more spice! You even get the adorable coffee shop owner and cafe blogger pair up! No third act breakup, no trauma, just a sweet ‘fighting the feelings until they give in’ romance. Oh, and let’s just say the kitchen is used for more than baking, so pick this one up if food play is your jam.😘 The only disappointing thing about this book is how dang quickly it’s over!
I’m such a sucker for sapphic romances and this one is a quick little novella from strangers to lovers it’s a fast paced but very detailed at the same time with certain scenes 😉 with of course a HEA! I devoured this book in one sitting and it got me seeing certain kitchen items differently 😉 I highly HIGHLY recommend this book about Sophie and Quinn and be prepared for the spice in this and the dirty talk!
I had the pleasure of being an arc reader for this book. I did find this story fast paced but I personally liked it because it helped me stay engaged. I really liked that the chapters weren’t long because it helped me stay engaged. I tend to struggle staying focused on the story if the chapters are long but these chapters were the perfect length for me. This is a good dual pov fmc x fmc romance book.
This was my first sapphic romance and I liked the two female main characters. I also love a story about a cafe/coffee shop and even though this was set in Chicago it had a small town vibe to it which was nice. It was fast paced, the characters fell fast and it got spicy quick! Not saying that’s a bad thing 😜.

I really enjoyed Quinn and Sophie’s story it was so cute!! Seeing them do from complete strangers to in love with each other was amazing, I loved every minute of their flirtatious banter and how well they worked together to get things done!! A perfect little novella.
OMG, I loved this book! From strangers to friends to lovers in the most adorable way! This Sapphic, Cafe, St. Patrick's Day romance was so cute! Sophie and Quinn's love story had me giggling and falling in love with love!
I have to start by saying I didn’t love this one quite as much as the first book in the series—but that definitely doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy my time with it.
Sophia is a food blogger who’s secretly dreaming of becoming a chef, and I really liked that internal push-and-pull between playing it safe and going after what she truly wants. When she features Quinn’s coffee shop on her blog and it suddenly blows up, it sets everything in motion. Quinn reaching out to Sophia for help was such a turning point, and I loved how that connection pushed Sophia to finally take a chance on her dreams.
Watching Quinn’s coffee shop grow while Sophia starts stepping into her own path was really satisfying. It was still a fun, feel-good read with heart and growth at its core.
I thought this was going to be a simple meet cute with lesbians. I was wrong. This book is spicy! I loved it.
Since it is a second book, I should have read the first one before this one. It got a little confusing with the characters, but nothing too serious. I will definitely read the first one and will look for the next ones! Hopefully there will three more, at least. I loved this book.
Lattes & Luck made me really appreciate just how promising this series is becoming. It follows a similar theme to Working with Cupid, but it doesn’t feel repetitive — instead, it builds on everything that worked so well in the first book and delivers another charming, engaging romance.
The writing once again flows effortlessly, and the pacing is spot-on. I found myself fully immersed, enjoying the slow build of attraction, the easy banter, and the moments of tension that kept me turning pages. It has that same cosy, feel-good energy, balanced nicely with chemistry and just the right amount of spice.
What I loved most is how consistent the tone and quality are. HB Cliffy clearly knows how to craft romances that feel warm, sincere, and genuinely enjoyable without being overly dramatic. The characters feel relatable, the connection feels earned, and the story unfolds in a way that feels natural.
Overall, this was another delightful read and a strong continuation of the series. If this is the direction it’s going, I’ll absolutely keep picking these books up. Sweet, engaging, and comforting — a series that’s shaping up to be a real favourite.
I received a copy of this book in eARC form in exchange for my honest review.
This novella is a quick read.
This is a Sapphic, lesbian love romance book that is *very* steamy. I knew this was a romance book going in. It isnt in my usual subject rotation, but it's always fun to try new genres.
I enjoyed getting to know the main characters and following their stories. They have a fun romance, and the side characters add some depth.
If this genre is your style, or you want to try something new, give this one a try.
