Priest and Mielle have been kicking it for years. Deciding from the jump that neither of them want anything serious, they’re both perfectly fine keeping it casual. But we all know how that goes and once feelings get involved, things become especially messy for both Priest and Mielle. On and off again with his high school sweetheart, Lira, the last thing that Priest needs is an addition to the problem. But two years after deciding that he wants nothing serious from Mielle, while still treating her like they’re in a relationship without the title, he suddenly reneged and started doubting everything he said before. In the midst of him trying to figure out his feelings, Lira comes back and sends everything to hell. It seems like no matter how hard Priest tries, he just can’t figure out who he wants to be with. So one of the girls will make the decision for him. The whole casual thing worked for Mielle... at first. But she caught feelings and instead of confessing them, she keeps them hidden. However, anyone with eyes can see how Mielle feels for Priest. When she puts her job on the line for him and is delivered a slap in the face by Lira’s reappearance, Mielle instead decides to take a step back because a man will act right for the woman he wants. But is the woman he wants, her?

This had me entertained from beginning to end. I liked the Priest character in the previous two books but not as much in his, as he did so much f boy stuff and came across as more immature and disrespectful than I thought. A very dish it out but can’t take it type of dude. I was also disappointed with how much crap Mel took from him based on the type of woman I originally thought she was. Her begging him to stay after he damn near choked her out really threw me and had me looking at her in another light. With that being said, this was still an enjoyable read however at the end, I was not in favor of the MCs being together. There are times when at some point in the story I am not feeling one or both of the MCs but somehow the author gets me back on board with them and other times when I’m like eff them both. This time it was the latter. If more work was done to show their growth I would have been sold.

My random thoughts as I read:

I love getting the convo of Priest calling Mel from Suny’s phone that first time.

Dang I didn’t realize how long Lira’s been around. Why she clung to him this long with no commitment when clearly she wanted one is beyond me

Oh word, Priest told Mel about Lira in the very beginning of their situationship. I respect that. Although this convo is crazy. It’s very mature. Props to Mel and Priest

Wow Priest was dead wrong how he was laid up in this woman’s house caking with someone else. I hope Mel stay strong and go find someone else. I hope he suffers for a bit before they get there HEA. Or she truly finds it with someone else.

Meeting the ‘Rents went well!!

Oh Lawd. Not a magnum in the car that was there just before meeting her parents. And I’m sure he was going to bring Mel home and sleep with her. I’m sorry but as much as I like Priest, Mel needs to be done.

Ok I get that Mel is pissed and rightfully so, but they had a convo about her getting physical with him. Plus she had a man that whooped her ass, she should not go there.I don’t believe in a woman putting hands on a man. And if a man is bringing her there that is another cue to fully walk away

Ain’t no way am I going to jail for anyone.

Once he decided he wanted to be all in with Mel, Priest should have deaded things with Lira. Not the day of the meet up with her family. That he insisted on. I’m still steaming on her behalf

Mad props to Judge Bishop bc he bailed her out but said he won’t make it a habit. And he kept her mom at bay. Another W for her pops

Damn Briscoe a snitch

I love that Priest is sick and had to run to his momma. Serves him right

Sigh. Priest stay on some fuck it shit

Once again Briscoe bitch ass snitching while Priest got a whole bitch he said he ran to because he was upset with Mel

Wow priest took it too far. And he calmly himself ending it like it wasn’t over the moment he tried to kill her. Tuh

Um what. I’m so disappointed in Mel’s response. I’m losing respect for her. She even got me looking stupid

Wasn’t he just in Lira. Now I’m pissed and not rooting for anyone

Lira should’ve kept her as in the house. Drink water and mind her business

Nah this hoe came out the house causing the situation to escalate

I like Boss.

Ugh, once again Mel caves. Priest don’t even have to work for it and after every thing she just opens up her legs. I would have been won over if he worked and earned this reconciliation

Ok at least Mel now realizes the error of her ways and try to deal with the root.

Nope. Not enough progress on priest side for my liking to be cool with the HEA...

Not bad at all. Mielle was way more tolerable than Boog. She was going to lose that battle regardless because the heart wants what the heart wants, and Priest knew it. He played on that every chance he got.

The amount of times he admitted he knew Mielle loved him and still went out to cheat… ridiculous. And yes, he tried to hide behind the whole “we not official” thing, but they were in a full relationship without the title. He avoided the title so he didn’t have to take accountability for the real thing. That’s all it was.

I’m glad she finally put herself first and walked away. She needed that. Priest stayed hurting her until he had no choice but to get his act together. It was a journey, but he got there.

This book was so good. I hated that Mielle kept going through all that Priest knowing that man was in love with her. I was proud of her when she finally chose herself. In the end it made him grow up.
