On top of that, both the university and the police have their eyes on Ace, making him toe the line when he needs to be saving the town from this new threat.

He’ll need the help of his friends, including his best friend — the cute gamer geek who was pulled into this dangerous world.

Rough start, but recovered

Alternate universe, magic, fantasy races, save the world, harem adult situations

Ace and friends tangle with corporate demons, meet a powerful witch, and for the cliffhanger, encounter a princess.

First, the rough start. The first thirty pages I read things that directly contradicted the first novel. Ace had plenty of practice channeling magic through his sword before this book. Second, Ace is a Champion, he is not an avatar; an avatar is a mortal body inhabited by a divine being. Yes, this is light fantasy, but let's keep the terminology straight. As a wealth young man, he could and should be making sure his friends and lovers aren't financially strapped. And, he really owes Wren that red sports car she asked for, and pay for the insurance. Cautious 5* because continuity matters. Above average editing.

Nope

This and the previous book have the same old crap of abrit trying to write an American and failing. I can deal with that because there are only one or two authors out there writing all this as a shadow writer and as much as I hate, I am used to it.

What really pushes my buttons is when authors attempt to write a modern story and throw logic out the window and try to remake the U.S. judicial system. Even a registered motion would be able to have a legal case thrown out of court that the author tries to make happen. Internal affairs would have field days with the police that these authors wrote.

I gave up at 15%. Just not feeling this sequel. It started with a "in the previous book" chapter, which I skipped entirely since I just read book one. I don't see the need for these kind of chapters, but some people seem to want them, so whatever.

But then, every scene going forward included a paragraph or three explaining what happened in the previous book, and why it was important to what's happening now. This really causes the story to drag, and annoyed the shit out of me so much that I started skimming pages and then just gave up.

Good story, usual tropes

It’s fun and a bit cheesy. If you don’t mind the goofy tropes and obvious foreshadowing, it’s an enjoyable read. Profession fantasy instead of LITRPG on the page, but in a way that makes sense. He isn’t all of a sudden 17 times stronger or faster than before or something.

It was fun. Very much more of the same as the first book; shenanigans, sex, and one-liners oh my! It's amusing that Ace (Venture, Pet Detective) seems to have some sort of magnetism and also completely unaware of it. I giggled my way through all of the one-liners, but I am a sucker for a groaner. I recommend it.

A great series!!!

A truly enjoyable story by an excellent storyteller!!! The series has stayed true to itself through every adventure which is absolutely fabulous!!! Excellent character and world development along with plenty of humor mixed throughout the adventures and escapades of the MC and their growing family!!!

Book 1 was a strong start with solid progression and promise, but Book 2 lost me when the plot leaned too heavily on characters refusing to communicate obvious issues. I don’t mind flawed protagonists, but conflict driven by avoidable silence, especially when it endangers allies pulled me out of the story. Ultimately, I DNF’d around 40%.

Sometimes efficiency reviews are good and other times bad, this would be a bad one and it wants you dead.
