From USA Today best-selling author Jennifer Sucevic comes the next sexy story in the Campus Series.
Crosby Rhodes is considered a god when it comes to Western Wildcats football.
And who knows, he might just be one. There’s certainly no shortage of girls on campus who agree with the sentiment. They swoon over his pretty face, dark messy hair, and hard body honed from years of lifting and two-a-day practices. That alone makes him catnip for the female species.
Add a lip ring and surly disposition to the package and you can understand what all the fuss is about.
Would I be included in that majority?
Hell no.
As far as I’m concerned, Crosby can eat shit and die. The guy is a major jerk. Not to mention a pain in my assets. And that’s putting it nicely. For reasons I’ve never understood, he goes out of his way to humiliate and hurt me. His barbed comments are always a direct hit before exploding on impact.
I’d love to know what I did to elicit such hatred, but that would involve conversing with him, and I refuse to do that. There’s only one more semester before graduation. Surely we can get through the next six months without coming to blows.
That’s the hope, anyway.
Which is exactly why I’m thrown off guard when my nemesis pulls me aside and suggests a truce. Do I necessarily trust him after everything he’s put me through?
Nope. For the time being, I’ll agree so there can once again be peace in the kingdom, all the while keeping him at a firm distance. Except that turns out to be impossible. Everywhere I go, there he is. It’s like I can’t get away from him. More shocking than that, he’s actually being nice.
If stomping out the underlying attraction that constantly flares to life between us was difficult before, it’s all but impossible now. But that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’ve been burned by one athlete; I’ll be damned if I allow it to happen again.

This was my first book by thud author, and although it started out with so much promise, it just fell flat for me about halfway through which is so disappointing since I was looking forward to this book. Crosby and Brooke definitely have a connection as well as sexual chemistry, I just felt like there could have been so much *more* between them. I hated how he barley stood up to her ex/his best friend, I really didn't like the fallout of their relationship and how little fight he had for her.. yeah he groveled a bit at the end but I personally think she forgave him too easily. Especially knowing her history with the last guy she dated.
The first part of this book on its own is definitely worth the three stars, I just wish there was more emotion to the story. .
*I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.**
Should never have started this. A story about college seniors who drink too much, have multiple fuck buddies (concurrently), and casually talk about the STIs they’ve gotten is not for me. Nothing about this made me want to finish.
Crosby and Brooke's story has all the feels! I absolutely loved their story. There's so much tension between these two especially because Crosby acted like an a-hole the whole time they know each other. And all because he's trying to not feel something more for Brooke. Also because she is his best friend's girlfriend turned ex. However, now he doesn't think he can keep his distance from Brooke anymore because the more he knows her, the more he fell for her.
Crosby had a lot to do to show Brooke he's not an a-hole. That he's only doing it because he's trying to keep his distance. I definitely loved seeing Crosby work his way in. They are so sweet together and I loved Crosby once he embrace his feelings for her. He's the sweetest. I loved their story.
Ok can anyone please explain to me why it took me so long to actually read this book? I have been waiting for it since I put the last one down and I pre ordered it and then I just didnt read it. I bought a load of other books and read some of them and I preordered a heap more and then I finally thought meh I might read this one and I want to slap myself.
I have fallen in love with this series and I've added Jennifer to insta one click status and yet it took me a week to get around to this book. God Im an idiot.
Anyway the book was awesome and I am in serious love with Crosby. The boy absolutely earnt his way back into Brooke's good graces and I loved everything about them together and seriously enjoyed the story. And I have one clicked the next one freaking June FFS so lets hope I actually read that one because I see hot things for Asher and Taco girl :)
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: enemies to lovers Angst: 😱😱😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥
Crosby has lusted after his best friend’s girl Brooke for years, but has always been an @ss to her to better keep his distance. But when they break up, Crosby has a harder time keeping up the facade. Now an accidental texting conversation has Crosby talking to Brooke while she thinks he’s someone else. Crosby’s not sure how to unravel the deception, but one thing he knows for sure is he’s not going to walk away without a fight.
This was first book by Jennifer Sucevic and it definitely won’t be my last! Super sweet and kinda angsty, this one had me hooked right away with Brooke’s awesomely snarky inner dialogue. I really liked Brooke and found her struggles to be relatable. Just loved Crosby and how all in he was for her. Great grovel and awesome grand gesture’s always make for an enjoyable read ♥️. The story was well written and moved quickly. I’ll definitely be reading this author again!
Crosby has had it out for Brooke for a long time now. She doesn't like him at all either, considering the way he has always treated her, and that he was one of the pack of people who didn't bother to tell her that her ex, Crosby's friend, had been cheating on her throughout their entire relationship. All Brooke cares about now though, is getting through college, avoiding her ex, and forging a relationship with her online friend. So why does Crosby keep showing up and annoying her, treating her like he always has - with disdain and contempt? And how is it that she can't help but be drawn to him, especially when he starts showing her a completely different side of himself?
When Brooke finds out the real reason behind Crosby's horrible treatment, will it bring a new facet to their relationship? Can they keep it a secret from her ex, or will it all implode in horrific ways?
Brooke is amazing, the kind of heroine I love most - smart, strong, and sweet, standing up to those who treated her badly. I felt so badly for her for the way her douchey ex treated her, the way her mother treated her, and especially the way Crosby treated her. I wanted to shake Crosby for his behavior, and the reason for it. But I kinda understood, and Brooke forgave him, so I guess he gets a pass. I really liked them as a couple, though, and their story - it's got heart, steamy chemistry, and one very likable heroine. Not much more you could ask for in a good romance.
Tranne me.
I was looking forward to this book and it didn’t disappoint!
This book is about Brooke and Crosby. Brooke was cheated on multiple times by her ex Andrew, who is the best friend/roommate/teammate of Crosby. Brooke is insecure about her appearances because of the way her mother treats her. She has lost faith in athletes and swore to never date one again. Crosby is an athlete on the football team, manwhore and living to make sure Brooke’s life is hell. He’s always making snarking comments and being rude and hurtful. But deep down he has a reason for his actions towards Brooke. But when he regrets his actions, can he redeem himself? It looks like he’s only making it worse with his new actions, although it is in fact very sweet.
I liked both characters. I wasn’t so sure about Crosby in the previous books, but am glad I got to read his own book. He is such a great guy and not at all as I imagined him to be. I wish he did some things differently, but I understood his reason. Although you just knew it was set for disaster. Brooke was a sweet girl with her own insecurities. I loved her opening up to Crosby slowly and struggling with her feelings towards her former bully. It was realistic that she doubted him. That could’ve taken her longer in my opinion, because the bullying took place over 18 months. That can’t be forgotten that quickly. We also read a few glimpses about Sasha and Easton, who were featured in the precious novella.
***Spoilers about safety👇🏻*** Safe read. Crosby was a manwhore before, but nothing too detailed in this book. Only referred that he had dozens of girls and he f*cks some of his regular girls (multiple, so no exclusivity from this guy). He turns one of his regular girls down at a party before he and Brooke get together and are still in the enemies zone. No OW drama, only some girls who wants Crosby’s attention but he isn’t having it. OM drama with Brooke’s ex, but nothing that jeopardizes their relationship. No cheating or sex with OP.
Next up is Asher (I believe) and I’m dreading that one because he is an ultimate manwhorish pig who I absolute loathe 🤢🤮
So this was my first book by this author and it was okay for me. I enjoyed the story. But felt like there could have been a bit more to the characters.
Crosby and Brooke had a kind of hate relationship going. Brooke didn’t like him cause he was one of the people who didn’t tell her that her ex/his best friend, was cheating on her. Now she just wants to get through college and avoid her ex and that is it. But for some reason this guy just keeps popping up everywhere, its like she cant escape him. And she hated herself for being drawn to him even though he has been nothing but horrible to her. And why now is he all of a sudden showing her a different side to him…
Like I said I enjoyed the story. I liked how Brooke stood up for herself with her ex. I didn’t like that Crosby didn’t do the same thing though. I felt like he could have done a bit more. I felt like maybe Crosby pushed the ‘I like the girl but will be mean to her’ a bit too fa, lol That Brooke forgave him too quickly even though he did grovel a little bit in the end was just okay for me. All in all the story was a good read. A lot of underlying angst and lots of drama which I love and that kind of makes up for the story 😊
I understand the reason why crosby treat her like shit but gosh if it were me. I would never forgive the man that poke my insecurities as a joke. n he be like. "Ohh i didn't mean to. I make you angry cus that the way i can keep my hand to myself from holding you" what a bullshit!!!!
Okay yeah let's going through your issue with bro code. We don't take our friend ex but mate, sorry to break to you. Your friend literally cheat on her!!!! And what!!! Friend before hoe!!! If you really like her. As soon you know abt the cheating you should confront him! How dare he treat the one that you love like that. But nooo. What you do after you knew she being cheated. Nothing. You did NOTHING at all.
and I didn't like relationship that star with a lie. For the love of books, He is coward but hiding in the label of Love. wake up dude. She doesn't deserve you. At least he owned up his mistake later. But please it didn't make up for whole the nasty comment you make for her.
Crosby and Brooke are just too much to handle, they will bring you to your knees in a matter of a few pages.
It’s a rollercoaster of emotions you won’t be able to get ride off , not for a long time.
I won’t spoiler anything, I think you should go into this one blindly and just trust the story, it will lead you to a crazy place you won’t ever want to leave.
I can’t wait to see what this series has to offer next! I’ll be right here patiently waiting.
I was so excited to go back & read Brooke & Crosby’s story after getting to meet them in ‘Hate You Always’. Jennifer has quickly become an auto buy author for me. She writes enemies to lovers so so well which is of course my favorite trope.
Brooke is Ryder’s McAdam’s cousin. She’s sworn off dating athletes after finding out her last boyfriend, who was a football player, had been cheating on her for the entirety of their year long relationship.
Crosby is Brooke’s ex-boyfriends best friend & teammate. He’s always been a huge a**hole towards her & they’ve become like enemies over time. Little does Brooke know, Crosby’s been such a jerk to keep her at a distance… he’s always liked her but knew she was off limits. So what happens when a call to the wrong number leads them to a new kind of relationship?
Tropes: - Sports Romance 🏈 - Ex-Boyfriend’s Best Friend - Enemies to Lovers - Curvy FMC - Reformed Playboy
I’ve loved Crosby for a long time, even though he was a complete jerk to Brooke a lot of the time. There was just something about him that I loved. I knew there was more to him than the cocky exterior he shows to the world. So while I loved how he opened up to Brooke, I also shook my head because I knew it would blow up in his face.
I really liked how Brooke stood her ground. I hated her ex & I love that she didn’t take his crap. I also really didn’t like her mother. She was tough, knew what she wanted & wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted. You could see the chemistry between Brooke & Crosby, it’s a thin line between love & hate.
I was surprised we didn’t get more from some of the storylines but overall it was an enjoyable read.
What can I say, this wasn't bad but I feel like I read the exact same thing from another author some time ago. Maybe plotwise it was too similar. And it is a wayyyy overdone theme, I thought it would be more refreshing but it was just the same regurgitated thing. All in all I didn't hate it, I liked the characters, more her than him to be honest. But it didn't blow me away either.
An enemies-to-lovers romance with plenty of drama, Crosby and Brooke’s story is both entertaining and heartfelt. The plotline and characters make for a solid romance, and it’s definitely worth reading.
When the book begins, it’s six months after Brooke has broken up with her ex, Andrew. Since she’s friends with the larger group, she unfortunately winds up being in his presence more often than she’d like. Almost as bad is the fact that she keeps running into Andrew’s best friend, Crosby, far too frequently for her liking. He’s unpleasant and almost hostile towards her anytime she’s near, and his behavior makes it so Brooke wants to be nowhere near Crosby. Little does she know that his behavior stems from his carefully guarded secret that he is very into her. After a party one night, Andrew accidentally causes Crosby and Brooke to start texting, despite her not knowing who she’s actually speaking with. During this time, Crosby tries to be a better guy, but Brooke isn’t buying it. This story takes us from the two of them not getting along to trying to find common ground and then eventually more.
Something I really like about this book is that Crosby and Brooke’s motivations feel realistic. Crosby definitely comes off as not such a great guy at the start, and he’s rude and crass when it comes to Brooke. The disdain he appears to have is completely unfounded, though. It leaves the reader wondering if the jerk football player can make Brooke believe that he’s not as bad as he’s made her believe all along. Then there’s Brooke, and she’s afraid to let her guard down, which makes her apprehension palpable and the storyline believable.
Though, something I did wish for is a little more angst and groveling on a certain character’s part. I love a good grovel, and I just feel like the problem was fixed a touch too easily. This doesn’t detract from the overall story, but it is something I thought could have been strengthened. Overall, I still found the storyline charming, though.
Also, the underlying nervous tension throughout the story makes this book. Fear seems to be Crosby’s motive for acting the way he did when Brooke was with Andrew and for how he deceives her. He’s afraid, but it makes so much sense. He’s scared of losing the girl he’s pined for all this time, and I found that bit endearing. I love that he’s not what he seems at first and seeing how he changes makes his character better and lends to the flow of the book. This book has a You’ve Got Mail feel to it, too, and you’ll know what I mean when you read it. I really enjoyed that there’s a touch of deliberate anonymity on Crosby’s part, and it certainly lends to the greater conflict in the story.
Campus God is a great addition to the Campus series, and it’s not to be missed especially if you’ve read the other books in the series. I can’t wait for the next book!
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review
Campus God earned my favorite book's spot in the series! Brooke & Crosby had a much more complex story, with more drama and much more heated than I expected, plus it left me very excited for the last book.
Brooke was a character that captivated me from the first page, she is a girl who is not afraid of being vulnerable, is very strong, determined and capable of seeing the good in people, unfortunately, she doesn't have the best luck: Andrew, her ex-boyfriend was cheating on her throughout their relationship, her mother is a superficial woman that has generated many insecurities in Brooke, and by itself that wasn't little, she can't help but feel attracted to Crosby despite how badly he has treated her ever since they met, but if I loved something about Brooke it was the way she always dealt with all the obstacles in his way, especially the strength with which she faced Andrew!
Crosby is one of the most popular jocks in Western, best friends with Brooke's ex-boyfriend, Andrew, since they were kids and has been secretly in love with Brooke since he met her, and although I didn't love his decision to be rude to her to drive her away, I understand why his friendship with Andrew was important enough to act that way. Crosby is a womanizing athlete, known for being a serious, sexy boy who enjoys partying, but he is also kind, understanding and takes care of the people he loves, I have loved him since Campus Heartthrob, and he did NOT disappoint me, although I do think he made a mess due to his desire to get closer to Brooke, but I couldn't help but love him more and more with each page.
The plot with which Brooke & Crosby begin to meet was totally unexpected and I think it's better to discover it by reading the book, but I will say that Crosby's decisions make it even more complicated his relationship with Brooke, although they make thta she get to know a different side of the boy who has been her enemy for a long time: someone who cares about her, who supports, her unconditionally and who is willing to do anything to show her his feelings. In addition to the fact that they have a very special chemistry, even when things are not going well between them, I loved reading them accept their feelings for each other, the flirtatious side of Brooke and Crosby's sexy side, and what about the epilogues, they were perfect for these two and made this story my absolute favorite.
“Ho passato quasi diciotto mesi a reprimere i miei sentimenti.
Campus God was a fun read about real-life enemies turned virtual friends that eventually became lovers.
Brooke hated Crosby with every fiber of her being. He had made her life miserable while she was dating his friend and teammate Andrew, and while she expected little from him, he was among the many who did not warn her that her boyfriend was a serial cheater.
After cutting ties with Andrew and trying to avoid all things Western football, she cannot seem to shake Crosby off. The irritating man always seems to be around and somehow has become more personable to her.
Her only reprieve is her virtual friend Chris, with whom she has had more connection than Andrew or any other man in her life. He is smart, caring, and understanding, and the faceless and shirtless selfies are a nice bonus. She has been trying to meet him in real life to no avail. Is it because he is not who he seems to be? What would Brooke do if she were to find out that her virtual soulmate turns out to be the guy who had bullied her and whom she hated with a fire of a thousand suns?
I love Crosby and Brooke individually. Crosby is kind and loyal. Albeit a bit misguided with his loyalty, Crosby means well. His ruthless teasing of Brooke was a foolish way of keeping his attraction to her at bay. Brooke is smart and friendly. Despite the adversities she faces with the people in her life, she rises above them. She sets firm and strong boundaries, especially with Andrew and Crosby. However, their chemistry together just renders Crosby's attempts futile and breaks down Brooke's walls.
In the age of catfishing, people get a little leery of meeting and getting to know someone virtually before seeing them in person. But there is something liberating about having that shield that allows you to be yourself with ease and without judgment. In Crosby and Brooke's case, getting to know each other virtually allowed them to be more forthcoming with each other without their history.
I really enjoyed the get-to-know aspect of this book, and while I do get wary of love triangles, I did like the dynamic of Brooke juggling her relationship with Crosby and "Chris" and how she ended up being true to herself in the end. Their spicy moments were the cream on top of their great connection; Crosby definitely know how to turn it up.
I just wished that slimy Andrew had more of a comeuppance. Is it too much to ask for his little friend to fall off?
This book is the fourth in the Campus Series, but it can be read as a standalone. There are mentions of characters from previous books, but Jennifer Sucevic did a great job of introducing them and integrating them into the story without making new-to-series readers feel overwhelmed.
** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Jennifer Sucevic and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for providing an ARC. **
One, I'm not a fan of the man pining for his best friend's girl. And, in this one, I don't like the way he particularly pined. ( warning: slightly spoiler-y) ↓ ↓ Two, I usually shy away from plotlines where the MMC makes a bet or keeps a secret that he chooses not to come clean about beforehand and then the story keeps going with the lie of omission, unnecessarily causing a trainwreck. I was yelling at Crosby the whole time! Three, I went on a read this anyway, and I found that the story is saved by Crosby's quiet adoration and support of Brooke, once he gets his shot; it is so sincere, painfully twisted, and riddled with layers of complexity. For the latter, it was complex because Brooke just broke off her relationship to Crosby's supposed Bff and roommate, and said ex-boyfriend had cheated on her and left her with a nasty reminder that needed to be medically treated. So, four, I couldn't keep my mental tangent from running amok, as I read Crosby and Brooke's college senior year love story, because... why did they not talk about said treatment for what the ex and Crosby's supposed bff gave her as they got intimate? Why did Brooke not question Crosby's sudden proximity more, or accept his fumbled lies that were so obvious?
I chalked it up to Brooke being needy and vulnerable, which opened her up too easily for being hurt, even after she had a rude awakening that should have fortified her. I also chalk it up to Crosby wanting her for so long, not ever having had a girlfriend/relationship before, and being so scared of losing her when he got her. And, they are young. If he were older, maybe more alpha behavior would have taken over him.
Instead, his grovel turned into a Love Actually moment (rip off) but it was kinda cute still and not as pathetic (LOL). You read the HEA and see what you think, 😉. Happy Reading
Campus Godis the fourth book in theCampusseries by Jennifer Sucevic. Told through dual perspective, this Enemies to Lovers, College Sports Romance follows the story of Brooke McAdams and Crosby Christopher ‘Chris’ Rhodes.
When Brooke was dating her now ExAndrew, who happened to be Crosby’s best friend/roommate and teammate. Crosby had always been a jerk to her, no matter how hard she tried to play nice with him causing them to be enemies. What Brooke didn’t know was he actually had feelings for her, but instead chose to hide them. However when an incident allows Crosby to get to know Brooke personally without her knowing it's him, he can no longer deny his feelings. But how can he reveal the truth when she hates his guts and won’t give him the time of day?
This book was emotionally charged with so much tension continuously growing between the two. Even with the hate-love Brooke and Crosby had going on, there were still sparks flying from the ever blossoming undeniable chemistry they shared, the further they progressed within the relationship they had. What made it even more intriguing, appealing and unique was seeing how their relationship grew within the two different types of communication they shared. The texting/talking on the phone and seeing each other in person, communicating face to face. It allowed us to delve in deeper with seeing not only two different results, given how they were and reacted. But allowed the character development of Brooke and Crosby to be explored on an extensive level, being further than usual.
Despite all the emotions and feelingsCampus Godhad pulled out of you, especially with the angsty moments that led to countless drama. Especially for Brooke when it came to her Ex and her mother. There was still an entertaining element to the narrative, given the lighthearted and funny moments that took place. It had you LOL’ing from time to time, allowing a reprieve by taking away from the seriousness.
Campus Godended up being another great read from Jennifer Sucevic. In fact, it pushedCampus Hottieaside with Brooke and Crosby’s story now being my new favourite from the series. Can't wait to see whose story will be next in theCampusseries, hope that it's Asher.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Having read a previous installment in this series I was eager to read this one...and in many ways it didn't disappoint. The best part of this story is its heroine, Brooke, a young woman who's immensely likable with a strong will but a bruised self-esteem from years of body shaming from her mother. She's determined and focused, with big plans for the future that don't rely on her looks. She's unlucky in love when readers first see her courtesy of a boyfriend who's been cheating on her the entire time they've been together. All she wants is a committed relationship, somebody there just for her, but it's clearly not Andrew...the best friend/teammate to Crosby, the most wanted man on campus (and in the bedroom). Theirs is ultimately a rocky break-up, but it leads to a charming and unexpected connection between Brooke and someone you'd never expect. She and Crosby may start out as enemies but their connection is sizzling from the very beginning as it progresses down a bumpy road to HEA.
This wasn't a perfect book though and that's because of Crosby and his actions that often left me feeling conflicted. When readers first see him he seems like the proverbial playa, a womanizer who can have any woman he wants. There's one woman he's never shown any flirtations towards however...and that's Brooke. Even though he was often arrogant, his kindness still showed through as someone who's supportive and caring of those he claims as his. That's why I was especially saddened by his nastiness towards Brooke. His words were cruel and felt unnecessary. I understand he was trying to hide his real feelings for Brooke while she was with his friend, but his cruelty felt over-the-top. As the two of them grew closer together he tried to prove himself worthy of her, tried to earn his forgiveness, but it never felt enough to me to make up for his years of bad behavior towards her.
Ultimately, the overall premise of this book was nothing new and had a familiar feel that made for a speedy read that left me wanting a bit more. There was great banter while Crosby and Brooke were texting, sizzling exchanges, but for me the ending didn't quite equal the charm and feeling of love from early in their relationship. Despite that this is still a satisfying read with an appealing heroine and a sexy hero who find HEA after an angsty journey that is a nice addition to the series!
I really enjoyed this story, but there were a few things I didn't really care for. For one thing, I feel like I'm the only one who hated the fact that Crosby's reasoning for being such a dillhole to Brooke was that he was attracted to her and didn't want to get too close because of her dating Andrew.
Like, okay, it just seemed so grade school. Seriously, that is literally the only reason. He was mean to her because he liked her. I was hoping for something more...idk, reasonable maybe? Like maybe she did something to him and doesn't remember, or her father is someone important to the school and he needs to manipulate her to get what he wants. Maybe the latter makes me effed up, but I don't care. I just would have liked more than the simple, "oh I can't have her because my best friend does. Oh, I know! I'll just be a complete dick to her so I don't have to deal with her being close."
As a reader of the previous books in the series, I was privy to a few of the exchanges between Crosby and Brooke, therefore I was sorely disappointed to see that all the crappy things Crosby said was simply because of an attraction.
Now, that terribly frustrating fact aside, this book was still really good. Once I got over my hang-up, I enjoyed it a lot. Their attraction was very very real. It was so tangible and super hot at times. I liked that their friendship developed before the intimacy came and it seemed natural despite Crosby's fake texting stuff. Personally, I didn't think what he did was such a big deal, which is why I am fine with how it ended. Like, Crosby didn't have to grovel that much, and this was one of those instances where that was okay because he didn't screw up that much. It wasn't like other books where the dude messes up and only grovels for a few pages and then everything is fine and dandy again. Honestly, the grovelling should have been in the beginning when he was trying to turn things around in their non-existent relationship.
Crosby gave me rebel without a cause vibes in the previous books, but here you find out that he really isn't.
In fact, he's actually pretty normal. Super hot. But just normal.
No traumatic backstory, no debilitating parents, nada. Just another college kid trying to make it in the big leagues. He was actually a lot nicer than I expected him to be. He wasn't broody or an a-hole just because. He had nice manners, a good disposition, and seemed just genuine, especially in the way we find out he regards Brooke. I think that's mainly what won me over from the crappy reasoning of his past actions.
I really loved Brooke though. I liked delving into her head more. She was much more headstrong and sure of herself than I expected. The stuff with her mother only made her stronger in my opinion, and though there was weakness there, it didn't completely hold her back and provided just enough for her to grow.
The storyline was interesting, and obviously not what I was expecting, but ultimately it held me entangled until the very end. Honestly, this book wasn't a typical college sports romance. A lot of things weren't what I was expecting which is what threw me for such a loop, but ultimately those factors are what kept me hooked til the end.
I'll definitely reread some of my favorite moments in this story, because there were a good amount of really sweet, and really steamy scenes that I enjoyed.
This was an interesting take on a love-hate relationship. Brooke McAdams is a full-figured young lady, who had to fight against adverse conditions that concerned her weight. Her worst critic is her mother, Elaine. She had an issue sharing her weight pain with Andrew. When he saw photographs of her in high school, he commented on how amazing she looked and then squeezed her side as if to show her that he could see the difference silently. She could only wince at the memory. It had taken her years which she still goes to especially, after each encounter with Elaine to combat all the harm she inflicted and still inflicts each time they see each other.
She knows she shouldn’t give either her mother or Andrew much credence but the lifelong programming from Elaine has been hard to counter. On top of that, she’s been dealing with Andrew's betrayal. It wasn't bad enough that he cheated but he cheated their whole relationship. But with the polar opposite of women who look like her. But a wrong-number text becomes her unlikely confessional, as well as, Chris becoming her anonymous truthful friend, therapist, and possible person of romantic interest.
Not knowing that this was a drunken text by the most unwanted person (Andrew), on the most unwanted person's phone double time Crosby Christopher Rhodes. Hence he is only using Chris to continue communicating with Brooke. He wanted her to know the real him but was she when she didn't have all the facts? This was such a good book. You could feel the emotional stress she felt each time she had to deal with her mother. The guilt she inflicted on her and the serious pain.
Then there was Andrew, who was an all-out asshat. He was playing mind games with Brooke saying he wanted her back, then going as far as recruiting Elaine for help, but was still banging all the women he could behind her back. It made me question Crosby’s sincerity about being with Brooke for the right reasons. Here his friend is repeatedly lying to Brooke about wanting to get back together always popping up and bothering her. And yet he knew he was screwing sometimes multiple women at the same time and he didn't call him out. Grandma used to say, “Show me your friends and I’ll show you the type of person you are.” It wasn't until he started staying with the other guys that I started to respect his character.
Brooke’s personality is a perfect sign of the times type of character…now I know these anti hero stories are popular in dark romance but there’s a difference between dark romance and Stupid as hell romance! I’m on page 42 (13%) in this book and this COLLEGE AGED ADULT just said “I’m not a moron.” To two FRIENDS who are trying to tell her that texting with a random number (someone she NEVER MET OR EVEN SPOKE TO OVER THE PHONE YET) was a BAD IDEA. Mind you they called her RANDOMLY at 2am and hung up so SHE texts them and asks them if THEY KNOW HER!!! Then she’s gonna TELL this RANDOM WRONG NUMBER where she goes to college AND what her major is!! She ESSENTIALLY makes herself an OPEN TARGET without any real prompting from said wrong number RANDO texter! They never call each other let alone FaceTime for WEEKS!!! Like BIH this ain’t 1992 AIM…this is 2025 when the FaceTime button is RIGHT ON YOUR PHONE!! What RATIONAL ADULT young or older isn’t gonna just KNOW, Hey lemme FaceTime this person to make sure they’re not a complete weirdo AT LEAST. This after being FULLY attracted to a guy says derogatory shit to her and is best friends with her CHEATING, LYING, STD SPREADING ex boyfriend!! This guy FULLY knew she was being used as a dirty cum rag by his friend but he chose to hate her and be disgusted by her NAIVE STUPIDITY OR wHAT HE ASSUMED WAS her GOLD DIGGERISH personality bc in his mind OF COURSE SHE KNEW HER MAN WAS A CHEATING LYING DICKHEAD! SHE just willingly chose to be with him bc he’s gonna be drafted eventually and she just wants his money and clout! LIKE WTFFFF!! 😩🤣🤣😭 Make this shitty book make sense!!! This is what an ADULT romance looks like now a days 🫢🤦😒 This “COUPLE” is a sign of how unbelievably ignorant people are nowadays and how adults are able to rationalize making the most gullible childish choices as adults and it being NORMALIZED! This is some junior high school I’ve never experienced anything and am totally ignorant to the world behavior. No full grown adult SHOULD BE behaving this way. This is just toxic behavior being romanticized.
I have been in love with Crosby since the very beginning because there was always just something about his attitude and cocky ways that snared me in, so when we got his story I was head over heels excited!! Crosby doesn’t do relationships, he’s the guy that knows he is good looking and athletic so he doesn’t even have to try. What we don’t see is underneath that cocky attitude is a guy that is smart, works hard, and is determined to reach he goals, so why is it when it comes to Brooke (his best friends ex) he can not stop the hatred he slings her way? He is always pushing her, saying mean things, and treating her horrible when she has never done anything wrong and at first I thought maybe it was because of the breakup with his best friend but the more we dig the more we see it’s more than that. Brooke is beautiful, works hard, just perfection but form years of underhanded comments by her mom she isn’t always secure and when she has to go toe to toe with Crosby it always seems to drain her. These two at first seem so far apart that you think it would take a miracle for them to ever end up together, but that miracle does happen. I don’t want to spoil too much for anyone because when things start to heat up we start to see a Crosby no one else ever sees and that is this kind, loving guy who would do anything for Brooke, but can Brooke’s trust and the hurt from their banter ever allow him to get close to her? i have said it many times but this series seems to make me fall in love with these characters even more with every book and Crosby really stole my heart. I hope we get an Asher book he is a character that is funny but a true playboy.
I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is Brooke and Crosby's story and it was really awesome and a huge surprise. It has a forbidden romance, secret identity, text messaging and also has a bit of redemption for Crosby.
This is part of the series and while it can be read as a stand alone easily. I do suggest you read this series because its awesome and we get to see some of the previous guys from other books in a few scenes.
Brooke dated Andrew who was best friends and roommates with Crosby. Because Crosby is a good guy and was attracted to Brooke he made her hate him. Now Andrew and Brooke are broken up because he cheated on her and Crosby is still mean because he still feels its a forbidden crush. Andrew has not given up and so shenanigans, text messaging, a secret identity is born and Crosby falls even more for her.
This was a really fun book I loved all the secrets that Crosby has and you just know its going to hit Brooke hard. But I really adored Crosby in this story. He had some really tough decisions and I appreciated that he had a huge conflict between his head and his heart.
Brooke hates Crosby until he shows her that he is not the guy he was when she dated Andrew. I liked that she was suspicious but I also liked that she gave him a shot. I also felt her conflict between her feelings about Crosby. She was true to herself and I really loved that about her.
This was a light, fun story with secrets, romance and so much heart that I fell for Crosby just like Brooke did.
