Geocriticism: Real and Fictional Spaces

Rate this book
Geocriticism provides a theoretical foundation and a critical exploration of geocriticism, an interdisciplinary approach to understanding literature in relation to space and place. Drawing on diverse thinkers, Westphal argues that a geocritical approach enables novel ways of seeing literary texts and of conducting literary studies.

In the first half I thought it was a 4.5 text with a personal-interest rating of about 3, but it very much grew on me as I went and proves very useful for the student of literature interested in spatial theory. For me Westphal made more sense of Lefevbre's The Production of Space, essentialising it to the parts I would actually use and apply to my reading of spaces. On a purely aesthetic note, though it was a pricey book the binding seemed lovely.
