Cherringham #45

Bad Neighbours: Cherringham 45

When Brian Foley is charged with the murder of his next-door neighbour, the fastidious Arthur Cranham, it seems the case against the blustering showman is cut and prints, DNA, CCTV footage - there can't be any doubt. After all - Brian and Arthur have famously been at war for years. But Jack and Sarah are convinced that the police have it wrong. With time running out, can they prove Brian's innocence and find the real killer?

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid-90s, creating innovative content and working on major projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and the best-selling mystery series Cherringham. Their latest series project is called Mydworth Mysteries.

The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of 'DCI John Barnaby' in 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Jim Riley' in 'The Life of Riley'. He is also known for his film roles in 'The Nativity', 'Sorted' and 'Son of Rambow'. In 2012 Dudgeon starred as 'Norman Birkett' on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

Book 45 and Still Love it!

I really enjoy the way that Jack and Sarah solve their crime cases together and this story didn’t disappoint. (Except that Jack still didn’t propose).

Jack and Sarah have so much chemistry between them. Why do they each have to live alone?

Lukijana Neil Dudgeon.
Erinomainen lukija.
Taas mainio seikkailu Cherringhamissa. Tällä erää selvitettiin, onko väärä mies epäiltynä murhasta. Leppoisasti asiat selvisivät, loppuun oli varattu jännitystä ja vaaraa. Pidin kirjasta, näissä kertomuksissa on aina positiivinen pohjavire.

Didn’t so much love the story on this one but it was interesting. I had it figured out a little faster on this one but still enjoyed the twists and turns. I do love Jack and Sarah so overall enjoyed the read.

Some nice light reading and a trip to Cherringham. Jack and Sarah are asked to investigate the feud between two neighbors that resulted in the murder of one. It looks like an open-and-shut case, but looks can be deceiving.

My quick thoughts and rating:
From beginning to end, “Bad Neighbours” is a sheer delight. I give it 10 thumbs up.

With irrefutable evidence stacked high, Brian Foley, a boisterous business owner, is charged with murdering his persnickety and nosy neighbor, Arthur Cranham. Adding to the situation, Brian was heard threatening to kill Arthur shortly before Arthur's untimely demise. Jack and Sarah take on the impossible task of proving Brian’s innocence and set out to find the actual killer. Can they do it?

Matthew Costello and Neil Richards have done it again with this perfectly written tale of mystery mixed with just the right dash of suspense.

If you opt for the audio version, you won’t be disappointed. It’s superbly narrated by Neil Dudgeon, known to so many as DCI John Barnaby in Midsomer Murders. He masterfully and vividly brings the story and all the characters to life.

If it were a film, Mr. Costello and Mr. Richards would certainly win the Oscar for best screenplay. And Mr. Dudgeon would win Oscars in all actor categories.

An absolute must for all Cozy Mystery lovers.

Ehhhh...

I have read all of the series and this is my least favorite. Seemed patched together. Oh well, maybe the next will make up for it!

Series has begun to be repetitive, but at least the main characters saved their illegal activities until the very end of the book.

A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a murder.

I wish they would write a 'COMPLETE' novel again. I love this series but the stories are just too short!
