Some secrets are written in blood. And mine could kill us all.Pack Locke fits my jagged edges better than I ever expected. But just when I start to believe I might belong, the truth cuts through Roman Sterling—the man behind the beta virus killing thousands—is my father.
Worse, every system I’ve hacked to save lives has been feeding his program, helping him track his victims. I’m not just connected to the virus—I’m part of it.
As the world closes in, so does the • Ryker, whose control masks a fire that only I seem to stoke. • Jinx, beautiful and brutal and willing to burn the world for me. • Finn, unraveling secrets even as his own body starts to fail. • Theo, whose heat is rising—and whose bond might break everything we’ve built.
I thought I could stay detached. I thought I could outrun my past.
But the hunters are closing in. And to protect the four men I love, I’ll have to face my father—and myself. Why choose? In a world built on survival, love is the riskiest move of all.
This is the 2nd book in Cayenne's Sugar & Spice SeriesWhy Choose, Fast Burn, Forced Proximity, Broken Hero, Frenemies-to-Lovers, & Adrenaline JunkieLove Fast Paced Action and Adventure with some spice? Then you will love Reckless.
The double standards & hypocrisy in this book makes me hate it. I especially hate Ryker, after he went on & on about her not betraying them he drew a clear line saying she's not pack, didn't apologize. The Fmc heard him say in a phonecall that he didn't want her there for their Omega's heat. Then he betrayed the fmc and never even apologized.... Yet somehow it's a bigger betrayal if she would have ran away?? The double standards are insane, Ryker go off on her for the smallest little detail yet the author didn't even let the FMC be angry at them for longer than a day. The way their betrayal was swept under the rug just pissed me off. She's blamed so many times & they kept talking about how she needs to earn their trust when they never did anything to earn hers. Like I said I hate the double standards here, the writing favours the male characters despite that Ryker is awful not allowing the Fmc into their Omega's heat even though he wants it & even though he promised her she's pack

This is part two of Cayenne's story, which picks up immediately after Jinx, Theo, Finn, and Ryker, with Cayenne's help, attempt to infiltrate Stirling Labs.
While Jinx is my favourite character by far, Finn truly shines in this book. His analytical mind complements Cayenne's hacking skills and chaotic nature remarkably well. You can see him trying to teach Cayenne how to live in a more controlled manner without attempting to change her fundamentally. This quote from their conversation illustrates this dynamic clearly:
"Is that what this is?" Her eyes search mine. "Teaching the control freak to let go? No... this is about showing the chaos agent that sometimes the most carefully planned falls are the sweetest."
It's fantastic how the pack communicates with Cayenne in a way she can understand, using code and computer language to connect with her. Though I found it amusing—and slightly disappointing—when Ryker put his foot in his mouth. Cayenne's pain at their betrayal really hits home; you can't help but be torn. You either want her to storm into their rooms, ensuring they know exactly how much they hurt her, or you want to encourage her to climb out a window and run for the hills.
The girl squad's interrogation was highly entertaining; we all know that we could use a manicure at weird times.
This is written really well, descriptively, and the writing style suits Cayenne's nature and the way she sees the world. It's a nice twist, pulling you into her mindset easier; you don't have to try and think like the main character, the book is written in her language.
That ending was a shocker, so be prepared—it's definitely a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more. I can't wait for the next book!

Thoughts: This next book in the series has captivating writing exploring the theme of found family verses genetics. Poppy’s prose is beautifully woven together with different language relating to each point of view. Theo’s language all relates to his artistic spirit, while Cayenne and Finn’s introspection follows the language of computer experts. There was lots of action and intrigue as they continue to be hunted by the evil Sterling corporation and try to save the Betas in peril. I loved the amount of violence the psycho Squad was capable of, it was almost as exciting as the intimate scenes. The Spice continued to be quite hot in this instalment, with Cay finally being with all members of the team. It was a bit like watching a train wreck as Cay plans to leave on her own, for the good of the team, and it was so sweet how each member showed they cared for her in their own unique way. Like the first book, this ends in a shocking cliffhanger, so be prepared for a wait to find out what happens next.

★“Sometimes the best kind of chaos is the kind you don’t see coming.”★
This installment reveals some startling revelations for Cayenne and Pack Locke. The two months spent with Ryker, Jinx, Finn, and Theo shows Cayenne what belonging with them could look like, but she still feels on the outside looking into their perfectly bonded pack. She cannot let her desires override what needs to be done, however. She has to right her wrongs and find out the rest of the truths for herself, once and for all. The heat between the three designations is high…and what she has been shown is that they are ready and willing to make room for one more Beta in their group…but while Cayenne has already shown what she is willing to sacrifice for one pack member, there is nothing she wouldn’t do to try to save Omegas, Betas, as well as Pack Locke. Looking forward to seeing what happens next with the cliffhanger in this book!
By the way, Cayenne’s chica gang is bonafide hoot, vicious and extremely protective when riled up. I have their stories on my wishlist, too!
I'm really not sure what to rate this book. And that is entirely my own fault since in one day I binge read books one and two and am sitting at anout 75% of book three as read while contemplating DNFing. I can say for sure whatever book one ultimately ends up as, book two is like .5 to 1 star lower as it was harder to ignore the things that were upsetting me or taking me out of the story.
Mostly the character's actions annoyed me here. Book one ends with the one guy feeling appreciative that she didn't pursue her own goals and saved the team. Then this book started with him all ready to fight her because she had other goals and put his pack in danger. Then later on he's all the pack wants her (including him) "please stay, don't run" but then he doesn't want her there for the heat. I mean heats in Omegaverse pretty much sums up who is pack and who is not. So he wants his pack to have the cake but not eat it too? I realized I started to get the ick from them when we used sex as a form of revenge and then later on as a method to distract her while they stole from her.

So, I am writing this review because this is a great series and from reading other peoples reviews I had some worries. Yes, Ryker makes a comment about her having one last heat with just his omega. But that could easily be his insecurities about her sticking around after actually going through a heat with the pack. He is very worried about her taking off and this worry is not without foundation. When I read the original comment I expected it to be much worse. Like way way worse. Now the betrayal, I also expected it to be something really big but really it was the pack being extremely overprotective and worrying about her after she just took a bullet. So it’s kind of understandable. Was it a stupid move, absolutely, and I do think they regret it to a certain extent. I wouldn’t rule this book out and there are still two more books so give it a chance and you may love it.

Reckless: Chaos - book 2 in the Sugar and Spice series by Poppy Carter picks up right where book 1 left off. Make sure you read book 1 before book 2.
In this book, we see Cay interact with each of the pack members individually as they go on their dates which include skydiving and parkour training among other things. Each member of the pack teaches Cay a new skill or refines the ones she already has.
After learning more information about Sterling Pharmaceuticals Cay needs to decide if she will stay and trust the pack or leave and rely only on herself to take Sterling down.
This one ends on another cliffhanger wondering how Cay will get out of this mess. I will not so patiently wait for book 3. Go read this book now.
A brilliant continuation from book one in the series and everything is simply heating up now between Cayenne and each of her pack men. I love how the Author has created the lead female, Cayenne with her own set of doubts, weaknesses (which are pretty minimal) but has this incredible strength of resiliency to her. It's always stated that opposites attract but in this scenario it seems to be similarities are what binds them together. A definite read as a series, not standalone but after finishing book one I automatically bought the rest of this series because I need to know both, how it will end and simply more of these great characters. Omegaverse seems to be reverse harem on steroids which is totally fine by me.
OMG, this book is soooo good. It follows directly from where book 1 ended and it delves more into Cayenne’s psyche. Cayenne is a great character and she is so active and intense. She never sits still. I love how her relationship grows with Ryker, Jinx, Finn and Theo. Nothing is at it seems and everything is a move on a chess board. There have been answers to questions but there is still so much to uncover. Goodness at the end, that cliff. Wow! I did not see that coming. I cannot wait to read book 3. April can’t come soon enough!
Second part of Chayenne her story and in love with it for sure. I love that Finn gets his chance and be the highlight of the book. At least for me that was the case. Though honestly I love Jinx, Theo and Ryker too! I mean why choose when you can have all? I love how the communication goes and how it works for Chayenne. However not all is well here as there is hurt and betrayal and I could just feel the rage! Now the story is interesting as well because choices need to be made about Sterling Pharmaceuticals and can Cay trust the pack or will she be solo on this one?
Reckless Chaos - book 2 in the Sugar & Spice series focused more on Cayenne's growing relationship with the individuals (Ryker, Theo, Finn and Jinx) in Pack Locke. Only for things to become more problematic for Cayenne with things that she overheard and everything associated with Sterling Labs. Building up to one hell of a cliff-hanger ending that was so bloody good. I'm loving reading this series so much.
The chaos continues in part two. This book picks up right where book one ended. Some of the chapters did get a bit long and repetitive, especially in the beginning. That said, I did still enjoy the story line. There are a lot of twists and turns that do leave on a cliffhanger. Looking forward to seeing how Cay’s story ends.
Omg!! I loved this one! Cay is trying to learn trust from the pack, but several things happen that make her rethink that. They're just trying to protect her and in turn she's trying to do the same thing. The end of this one is a bit of a doozy and I need the next one. I need to see how they're going to get to her!
The Good: I still like the main characters The plot is interesting The writing flows
The not so good: I feel like the plot is being stretched beyond its limits. The villains are caricatures. Might as well call them Dr. EVIL and his goon squad. Our MFC has lost much of her vibrant chaos. I miss it.
This book continues Cayenne's journey to save herself and other Beta's with the help of her friends and Pack Locke. But what happens when the pack decides she is one of them? What happens when she gets to know the men she is falling for? Does she leave? Does she stay?
So this book was just as good as the first. I was under the impression that this was a duet but this book left off on a cliffhanger so I guess it will be a full series instead. I loved learning more about the characters and seeing Cayenne's struggles on whether to stay with the pack or leave. I can't wait to see what happens next for this pack!!!
I'm so invested on this series. This is my first read from this author but Im already adding her other books. This series is so freaking good. The plot. The romance. The characters. The cliffhanger. Ha! So freaking delicious 😍😍
Surprises, shocks, twists and one beta who is scared to love but is ruthless to protect. And we can’t forget the reckless side of her. Already this pack is like no other even broken and twisted. I’m eager to see how this plays out after that sacrifice.
This series is absolutely fantastic and exciting. Don’t expect sleep. It’s definitely a keep you up all night series. Can't wait to find out what happens next
