A post-apocalyptic world in which only the bad guys have guns. Kris and Claire, Two young teenagers must build a world where they and their young friends can live in peace. Buidling a refuge on the roof tops of the cities they must scramble, fight, and work together to survive
Spoiler alert. I was okay with the book up until the bad guys showed up which then read like 'Home Alone Apocalypse' attacking them with bowling balls. Also frustrating when they knew they were being hunted yet stood around waiting for bad guys to show up (Kris when chased by dogs and just standing outside house when door was locked and after killing Big Jake), and after saying they will kill all the bad guys Kris leaves a guy hanging in the store with a gun shooting at him.
And ending was sickening when they knew there was a compound holding people as slaves and raping women and just let them leave having us to believe the turned in to good guys with death of Big Jake.

If it wasn’t for a promise of a review I wouldn’t have continued listening to this one right from the start !!! This book is all Cons: It started by being told that this book was writing by a very good author named Nate Johnson but no it was written By G. L. Snodgrass an awful writer. I was shown a book cover that don’t exist ( different picture, different names ). And then the awful super fast narrating by a kid named Tyler coachran.
In short: I wouldn’t recommend This awful book Not even to My worst ENEMY !!!!
I honestly loved this book truly loved it. I loved the way the author wrote it with the children running the show making their own decisions and fighting their own wars. Following Kris and then Claire and Ellen joining him there is never a dull moment as more and more want to be part of the family that they are building. It's was an absolute joy to read so Ty thank you to the author, Nate Johnson or G.L. Snodgrass. Well worth reading.
The author has some good storylines but the spelling and grammatical errors in the text are distracting. He definitely needs to find himself a good editor. Sometimes the story drags along with little purpose, and some of the main characters are one dimensional. However he has a gift for the crux of a story, even if it requires polish.
Kris Robertson breaks every rule his father gave him when he leaves his lonely mountain to look for other people. He finds himself the reluctant protector of innocents in the cities below as he steps into a leadership role.
I'm a fan of post apocalyptic novels but not a fan of violence and detest assault scenes, so I have a hard time finding any I like. This YA dystopian novel seemed like a good choice. I'd say it's written for ages 16+. There was a lot of romance, which luckily I'm a huge fan of as well! Kris is a fighter when needed but gentle with his companions, perfect to root for. The girls, especially Ellen, are really sweet.
The narration was well done, the narrator even seemed to have a young voice to match Kris. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
Three stars may not be quite fair here. The story was fun with a little different setting and it was a fast read. That means the plot moved right along! With better proofreading, a solid four. I’m reading another book right now by the same author. That says it all.
The author has a nice easy to read style and it’s a good story in the dystopian genre.
The proof reading left some room for improvement with many spelling mistakes ‘corps’ instead of ‘corpse’, ‘quite’ instead of ‘quiet’ among a number of others.
Absolutely, loved this book! If you like post apocalyptic romance and survival then this book is for you. Phenomenal story great author. Don’t miss this one, lots of drama and characters that have inner strength and determination to survive. Finished it in 2 hrs couldn’t put it down.
This book I liked because it just didn't give you the things the characters did to survive but also to live. Survival isn't just having shelter food. Its having human interaction.
Great reading did not want to put it down. Well written Nate. The last chapter had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Claire is a lot like me. I feel like I don’t need to be protected. But then again never been in that situation.thank you.
Great story and a great cast of characters. I loved this book. I couldn't put it down after I started it. I read it in two days. Nate really put a great story together. I recommend reading this to all.
This was a good dystopian novel it was fast-paced the second half I found the first time a little slow but once it got going really good only problem I had was a very evening but other than that this is really good book I don't like how they just threw it in at the very end of the book
A bit long, but actually interesting with good characters, some of the things were a bit hard to believe, but normal for an Apocalypse novel. Proofreading sucked especially in regards to homonyms.
