**ARC review**
Called a “doom and gloom antidote,” Whimsy is a collection of twelve stories that show the good in people and the world (and sometimes, other worlds), though not without the conflict necessary in all stories. Recurring themes of hope, growth, and loneliness cured. Many made me smirk and giggle, some made me stare into the distance in awe, and one even made me cry. My only (very small) qualm is that a couple of the stories have endings that feel rushed, but it’s easy to overlook that and still enjoy the work. The authors frequently use voices and styles reminiscent of fables and fairytales, solidifying the theme of the anthology. One even gives Lemony Snicket vibes. Not to mention some sly fourth-wall breaks and a slick Lord of the Rings reference. My favorites from this collection are Sosi’s Wings, She Who Destroys, and Voyage Story. I’m honored to call this my very first ARC thanks to Ink Alchemy Books!

I loved these stories! There wasn’t a story amongst the 12 that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. I think of them as fables or fairy tales for adults … not necessarily with a happily ever after ending … but a positive ending … and I so love a happier ending.
My favorites were Sosi’s Wings, a story about a friendship that develops between a fairy and a caterpillar/butterfly (and as a retired teacher I found myself wishing I still had a class to read it to and then we could talk about friendship), and She Who Destroys, a story about a witch who “wasn’t a very good witch,” but she was!
Definitely, as the editor says in the opening, “a bubble bath for the brain.” I highly recommend this book for some fun reading.
