When Angus Cross saw a photograph of the house on Essex Street, his first words were, "It's haunted." In spite of feelings of foreboding, logic won the argument and Angus moved his family to their new home. This story is the true recounting of paranormal and strange events that have happened in Essex Street since their arrival. Angus and Josie Cross know they have company.
I love my ghost stories. This was a good mix of short stories of what the author had experienced in a house he moved into. The writing was not wonderful, but the writer is not an author, and lets you know this ahead of time. The stories were a little disjointed and there was not much of a timeline. The stories themselves were okay. A quick read for haunting fans.
Short but nonetheless interesting "Haunted House" tale.
What I liked about it was that it was so "Normal". There wasn't any reference to the happenings threatening the family or causing any actual bodily harm. Although the author did get electrocuted from a "Faulty" cooker.
Angus goes in to more detail how it affected them financially and in tangible terms and tried to downplay the activity as mischievous. Several household appliances breaking down but no hysteria about it being demonic or evil. That's not to say the books about the Smurl family should be marked as hysterical but Angus prefers to be more matter of fact about it.
Well worth a read if you have a couple of hours to spare on a train journey as I did.
I think he is quite articulate in his writing . I don't doubt he is having some sort of paranormal activity . However , there wasn't a lot of detail because he admits the incidents are hard to actually define and the part regarding his friend and his friends activity is not very interesting . Personally I think he was just venting , it might be time to get a blessing on his home if he intends to stay there , it's possible from his last description of fecal matter in the bathroom that it's escalating that I would be concerned about .
This was a pretty good true ghost story. I enjoyed reading it - it's pretty mild as far as the haunting - I didn't have to leave the lights on. Still it was a page turner and kept me guessing. Gave it a 4 star rating.
Quick and entertaining read. The narrator is likeable and has a sense of humour. Very low key "haunting" which is probably creepier than overdoing the exorcist stuff.
