An awesome book. I enjoyed these characters more in this book than in their own current series. Great artwork, good story, and lots of action.
During World War II group of Nazi soldiers trying to escape Russia made a deal with some demons. Now they are on the verge of wiping out humanity completely. However, demons don't play nice with each other. A rival joins a group of Nazi killers. The fate of humanity is in the balance.
I don't care if this is a What If in the past. I love this book. This is not the end, I really hope they are not teasing me here. The book finishes with a variant cover gallery.
3.75 stars. This was pretty solid story set during WWII. A nazi soldier named Buckner, was possessed by a spirit called Calphael of the unhollowed. He has slowly been taking over others forming an army. Zarathos wasn’t having that and claimed a soul of his own in Romero making him the Ghostrider we met in Kennedy’s Hulk run. Zarathos also gives a little power to the team with Romero. Let the hunt for Bruckner begin. A pretty cool war comic mixed with the supernatural with some nice artwork. Fun stuff. Now back to our regularly scheduled Hulk program.
Can’t believe I’m going to say this but this graphic novel needed more exposition. Sure, I knew who most of the characters were but if you’re not a big comic book nerd it would get very easy to be lost reading this book
That said, I loved the art and some of the high concept ideas in it tho
I'm a sucker for World War II horror mashups. Hellhunters is a fun team book with Nick Fury, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Bucky, Peggy Carter, and a Sorcerer Supreme fighting Nazi Demons during the D-Day invasion. My only criticism is that the story was resolved too quickly.
Incredibly fun romp. In "Hellhunters" we travel back to the World War II era of the Marvel universe for an adventure that includes guns, explosions, magic and a lo of demons. Phillip Kennedy Johnson does a fantastic job with getting the right voice for characers we know & love. Except there were a few strange choices with Bucky that felt a little off to me. The artwork from Adam Gorham is some of the best I have seen for Marvel. When the action happens this book really shines. The colors are eye poppingly great as well. This story works as a great introduction to the World War II era Ghost rider. Of course there are some great moments in this book featuring Canadian dude with the metal claws. I was a bit sad we didn't get more Captain America in this series but maybe we may get another Hellhuners tale in the future. This was really one of the best miniseries that Marvel has put out for some. If your looking for more period piece action superheroics I'd reccomend checking out the following books: All-New Invaders, Vol. 1: Gods and Soldiers, Joe Golem: Occult Detective, Vol. 1: The Rat Catcher and the Sunken Dead, Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham, Demon Knights, Volume 1: Seven Against the Dark, Dark Knights of Steel, Vol. 1, Wesley Dodds: The Sandman, & Freedom Fighters: Rise of a Nation.
It tells the story of Howling Commandos led by Fury and Wolverine is also in it and we see them during ww2 fight with nazis in France as they're hunting a man named Bruckner whose been taken by a demon named Calphael and I love how it also introduces GHOST RIDER '44 and serves as an origin for that character and its really well executed!
The whole set up for the villain is awesome and then seeing how our heroic team comes together and the challenges they have to face, the chemistry between the characters and later on Bucky joins them and seeing Sgt Szardos reaction on having a child on the team is awesome lol and just the whole bonding during war thing and them fighting these demons and the way it results in such a great fight by the end is awesome and so worth it!
I like how it shows Ghost rider '44 and his story and what gave him powers and all and its hatred vs these UNHALLOWED who had such a great origin story and actually might play out in one of the main marvel books in present continuity maybe and I am so down for that! Really the potential of that is insane!!
The way it ended was cool too seeing a platoon of soldiers not following the orders but still winning an important battle for the allied forces was cool and seriously sets up a great story to come down the line but in itself is also one of the best stories Marvel have done recently and I highly recommend it! What a read this was!!
This was pretty fun. More hell nonsense but this time with WWII so we get to see a lot of Nazi’s die which is always super fun. But this did feel drawn out and most of the team was just people with guns. Much like the most recent Thunderbolts movie. But seeing an old Sorcerer Supreme was sick. Marvel’s WWII is getting very convoluted and is borderline no longer working. You got Wolverine showing up damn near at every battle at this point. But they clearly wanted to set up a new story with a new past Ghost Rider who has already shown up in the present day. Not a bad comic just adding more to a convoluted era with an okay selection of characters.
Can't just have a classic WWII story... Got to up the ante with the supernatural!
It's up to a young Nick Fury, a Soldier Supreme, Peggy Carter, that wild Canadian Logan, an underage Bucky Barnes, and Ghost Rider 44'. They've got to stop the creeping advance of Calphael and the Unhallowed. Only with the help of Zarathos can they turn the tide.
--- Bonus: Creepy Bucky is creepy with his (historically accurate) Nazi ear collecting Bonus Bonus: Zarathos 'gifts' will definitely be paid for...
This was a fun, quick read. The premise is very cool, but the art was a bit lackluster. I LOVE Johnson’s take on Bucky, and I would read more of Bucky being a weird kid that sings war songs and collects dead Nazis’ teeth!

Was a fun read, but I wanted more. More specifically, I wanted more Nazi killing, than demon fighting. I want the inglorious bastards of the marvel universe.
Fun, pulpy adventure as an assortment of marvel's WW2 heroes are thrown together to stop a supernatural threat.
Nice mix of straightforward soldiers, heroes and supernatural beings. Didn't love everyone getting a magic weapon and Bucky being rectonned into a borderline sociopath, but those are minor grumbles.
The art style has a nice gritty feel that works for both capturing the feel of ground level soldiers and supernatural threats. Curious to see if we get the hinted at sequel.
