Widowers Maggie O'Brien and Carson Jennings are both on a journey to rediscover who they are. Maggie, an adventurous former pastor's wife of thirty-nine years, hopes to find closure in the place she and her husband spent their honeymoon. Carson, a retired judge, is living his lifelong dream of traveling across the U.S. in his RV. When their paths cross in the tranquil setting of Mason Springs, New Mexico, love is the last thing that either of them expects to find.
When this mismatched pair comes together, they find themselves in some hilarious and even precarious situations. As the romance begins to blossom, they face many obstacles that threaten to tear them apart, and what Maggie discovers about herself in New Mexico will redefine her future and alienate one of her children.

This is one of the best Christian romances I have read in a long time. Maggie and Carson are great characters, well developed and so easy to fall in love with. The situations they are faced with are believable and in some instances really touched home with me. A couple of scenes brought me to tears, a good sign of an excellent author. So kudos to Ms Patrick for penning such an interesting and thought provoking story. I highly recommend it!
This is a good book to read for those in that next chapter in their life. A book about loss, adventure, friendships, family, love, and a faith in God. It was one of those "Good Feeling" reads for me.
Pleased to discover this novel of interesting characters with some years and wisdom gracing their adventures. Their progression from first meeting to reflections on their past relationships, doubts of romantic connections and resolutions of family issues, all played into a meaningful and realistic story.
Maggie O’Brien and Carson Jennings' story is one that makes you believe that once you lose the love of your life to death, there will be someone special who will come into your life and make you want to go on. Both Maggie and Carson lost their respective other half and meet while in Mason Springs, New Mexico. These two will meet people who come into their lives to stay as part of their extended families. There will be a reunion with a child and romance between these two sixty year olds. The story is beautiful and these two put their faith in God to get them through things. But Carson is keeping a secret from Maggie. The is also a death scare. This is the first book by this Author that I have read, but I will be looking to see if she has more of this type of story. I received a copy through KU and I am voluntarily reviewing
This is one of my favorites that I often pull out a re read. This is a story of two mature adults. While they are just a few years beyond me they are in my age bracket. I love the thought of finding a second love. Maggie is so adventurous and has a neat background. Carson is not adventurous and come from money. They bring out the best in each other. This a clean stand alone read. Well worth the time!
I grabbed this book because one of the characters lived full time in an rv. I really enjoyed this book and shed many happy tears throughout. Very touching story.
Loved this short read. The characters were very likeable and it was a refreshing change to read about people of this age range, instead of the usual two people falling into bed far too quickly!! A lovely book that I would happily recommend if you like books of a Christian theme.
How long is long enough when it comes to grieving the loss of a spouse and it is a question that has no right answer. We certainly get different answers from the spouse left behind and their children.
Really loved reading about an older couple learning to leave the past behind and learn to love again. And, the importance of friends and family. But most importantly the grace of a loving God and his work in our lives.
After losing her husband Maggie O'Brien has finally got the courage and ability to leave the house and finally do something for her rather than moping about the house and constantly thinking of her one true love. On a whim , she decides that the only way to really get closure is to do something to release her love. She decides to head to New Mexico to an Inn where she and her husband had their honeymoon and being a lover of the outdoors and hiking, hike a trail her and her late husband had always dreamed about doing. Her family thinks she's crazy, but she knows it's the right thing to do . It seems that God has other plans for Maggie and other ways for her to try and move on from her husband's death as he puts Carson Jennings in her way , he has just retired and is currently travelling around in his RV. The pair after an awkward first meeting where Maggie thinks he could be a serial killer or axe murderer start to hit it off and soon things develop from there. The time comes for them to end their trip and go home but what will their children think ? Will they accept their parent's new choices or will they be resentful and hateful towards Maggie and Carson ? This was a lovely inspirational romance and suited for those readers who love to read about the older retired audience and for all those retirees who dream about travelling one last time , remember it's never too late to do anything and that you are never too old to have fun.
This book contained many errors that should have been caught by a good editor. These errors included mistakes in punctuation, misspelled words, misplaced modifiers, subject/verb disagreement, and wrong choice of words. It was difficult to believe that all the characters could get along with each other so well without getting on each other's nerves while living in such close proximity, sharing a house with other family members and living temporarily in a motor home in a parking lot. What 62-year old woman can survive a fall onto the sidewalk from roller blades and not be sore but instead be ready for more exercise right away? How can this same woman have the energy to walk a mile and a half to a store with four children after being deprived of sleep? Still, even though the characters were just too good to be true, it was refreshing to read a book that contained no profanity and had characters who proclaimed a desire to be good Christians by helping others.
I love a good December romance. Maggie and Connor are a delight to watch as their love grows. Both widowed from different background with a strong faith. Love that Maggie is not the typical stereotype pastor’s wife. She’s witty and at times sarcastic. Conner is the gentleman romantic who found love when he wasn’t looking. This sweet romance has so much more. Not just family and friends reactions to the match but a surprising twist or two. I loved the clever way the author fooled me. I expect a twist in the plot at one point that didn’t come then she totally surprised me when a disaster hit in a surprising time. As odd as it sounds this book made me appreciate my hubby of over 40 years more than ever.
An entertaining read about a second chance at love. The two main characters had no idea that they would find each other in a small town in New Mexico. She was returning to where she and her late husband had honeymooned while he was there by Fate as he traveled in order to get back some semblance of normality after the death of his beloved wife. They became the perfect couple although having to win over her daughter's reluctance to accept a new man in her mother's life. Easy reading with good family sentiments.
Finally, a book about relationships for those of us that are a little more seasoned. This book is centered on two widowed persons that are looking for God's will for their lives and what living without their spouses should be. It incorporates family relationships and incorporating friends into our families. I enjoyed reading this book.
I truly could understand this book. As a widow of 11 months I could understand where the new "couple" we're coming from in their reactions and emotions that they described. And how hard but important it is keep true friends. This unforseen romance is a great read
I enjoyed reading the older couple scenario. Believable story where the children have an opinion about their parents through crisis they pull together. (that doesn't always end that way in families) Made me wish to be included. What does God have install for me n what are the kids praying if anything?
Life is a journey of happy and sad times. Maggie's first husband died after 39 years of marriage. Maggie never thought she'd find love again until she met Carson. This book gently and lovingly weaved the lives of their families and friends along the way into an intricate family. Their faith helped them follow God's lead and bask in His will.
I enjoyed this a lot. It was great to read about mature adults who get a chance at love in their silver years. Faith was presented in a natural and organic way; it was just a part of their lives and it informed their world view and common decisions. The reactions of family members and the other obstacles the couple faced were true-to-life for those finding love later in life.
This books shows that there comes a time in our life, when we should accept God's gifts for second chances. The people in our lives should share in our happiness and our kids should never doubt that the love we have shown them throughout our entire lives, will be diminished by the finding of someone new in our lives.
This story is not my usually cup of tea. Maggies going to turns with her husband passing away. She falls in love with another widower. An enjoyable read, I love Maggie with her young at heart and spunky attitude. The book talks above second chances.
kindle 230 This book was a lot of fun, a good look at a new romance, after both people have lost life partners. I had fun reading about these two in their 60's (like me) and how theydealtt with their loses and how they moved on.
