Betting on Julia

Rate this book
Small, blonde, bubbly, and with a penchant for all things pink, Julia Melville has always considered herself a nice girl – until she was attacked by a werewolf. Months later, and still in total denial, Julia spends the time between full moons fantasizing that her life is normal. And who could be better to help her with that than her new neighbor, handsome accountant, Sebastian Crane.

For two hundred years, Sebastian, a powerful warlock, has been possessed by a demon. Each day, his soul grows darker, and he knows that soon he will be beyond salvation. But the demon loves to gamble, and he's made Bastian one final bet—get a good woman to say the words "I love you" and he'll be free.

Julia wants a normal guy. Bastian needs a good woman. Maybe together they can find something far more valuable…redemption.

Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.

Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.

Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.

Nina's writing mixes romance with elements of the paranormal and science fiction

4 - "Is that a wand in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?" Stars!

If you enjoyed Operation Saving Daniel, book one in the Melville Sisters series, you are going to love Betting on Julia, this book had a bit of everything in it to suit all tastes. Nina Croft has certainly got mad-skills when it comes to giving the reader and enjoyable romance in the PNR genre, and for me what made it so easy to immerse myself in was the fact it is set in the UK, the language used is clearly from a British born writer, and it wasn't overly explanative when it came to the who/how and why with regards to the werewolves, warlocks and demons.

There was nothing like turning into a hairy monster once a month to knock your confidence.

The story pretty much carries on a couple of months after where book one finished and Julia is still struggling to come to terms with the fact that she is now a werewolf, especially as she is a vegetarian, and keeps waking up with the remains of furry animals in her midst. Sebastian comes along at a point in her life where she isn’t looking for any emotional entanglements or attachments, and pretty much blows all of her rules for herself out of the water.

”Normal is good. I like normal.”

Bastian Crane, is a good guy (although he doesn’t believe that himself) stuck in bad circumstances, forced to live his life by the will of another, he is tired of the existence he finds himself living in. The chance of escape is offered, and a deal is struck, but can he follow though and find himself love with a good woman. I loved his interactions with Dante, shifty little devil that he is, and at points you almost forget what he is because of it, their sniping with each other had me chuckling on several occasions.

Bastian also has another skill that is sure to make even the most hardened lady fall for his charms, boy can he turn on the dirty when required!

”Julia, stop thinking. I need to get in that house and get inside you and if I don't do the first I might do the second anyway. Right on your doorstep.”

I loved this couple together, both of them are keeping massive secrets from each other, and even though neither really has a clue fully as to why, the intertwining of their lives without them actually knowing it right up until the point of revelation was skilfully weaved by the author.

This series is rapidly working its way into my heart. The Melville family are easy to fall in love with, but are going to be hard to forget. I hope that Nina sees fit to give us another instalment in the near future.

”Honey, you couldn’t be bad if you tried.”

Sebastian is possessed by a demon and the demon makes a bet with Sebastian. Sebastian knows the demon isn't telling him everything, but this bet is important to him. Julia is struggling to deal with turning into a werewolf. Sebastian and Julia hit it off right away. How these two keep both of their secrets hidden is fun to watch. When Sebastian's secrets start coming to light it's interesting how he tells Julia about them. This was such a good book and I loved the end of the book and how everything turned out. I really enjoyed this book and am so glad that I got the chance to read it.

I first discovered this author last year and have been very impressed with her work . A wealth of ideas and unusual story lines constantly surprise this reader and this new book is no exception. I've read quite a few shifter tales and even a few demon ones but this blend that Ms Croft has penned was a joy to read. Set in London ( I'm so bored with Seattle or New Orleans !) we meet a newly made werewolf struggling to come to terms with her new status and a warlock possessed by a demon and a challenge that will quite literally change their lives!
Julia has spent the past six months pretending that her inner beast is a figment of her imagination. Oh she knows that she gets all furry when the moon is full and chases cute fluffy little bunnies but as a dedicated vegetarian and all round girly type accepting all these changes is so not happening. It should be easier as her brother is the packs new alpha but for Julia it's a tragedy and something she refuses to embrace . Poor Julia can't even bring herself to say the word werewolf so there's no way she will give up wearing her signature pink and besides pink is just so adorable and as for fur? Well maybe not what Julia desires to wear!
Sebastian has spent the past two hundred years possessed by a demon. Oh it was his own choice but he made it at a time when life seemed hopeless and his reasons made sense to him. He may be a warlock but Sebastian is still trying hard not to give in completely to the darkness that the demon Dante exudes. Bound together both want freedom but there's no way Sebastian will allow the sadistic Dante to be released . If only there was a way to send Dante back to hell but Dante makes Sebastian an offer that's too good to turn down, charm a good woman until she says that she loves him. Sounds easy enough but there's a time limit and it has to be a woman of Dantes choosing . Its a chance that Sebastian jumps at but why this particular woman? She seems so normal and sweet, so why has Dante chosen her? Sebastian hasn't got the time to ponder though as getting Julia to say she loves him is proving more difficult than he thought but he's not a man to give up easily . Gambling with a demon may not be the smartest thing to do but if it means freedom then challenge accepted!
I really enjoyed this story and found it to be very original. I do read a lot of paranormal romance so it's often difficult to surprise me but this felt fresh and unique. Oh some of it was easy to guess and predict as let's face it this is a romance but it's written in such a way that I enjoyed following the characters journey. Julia is a hoot and her interaction with her inner wolf is unlike any other I've read. She's so determined to remain feminine and seems to almost despise the changes to her life which although understandable meant I did have this image in my head of an ostrich with its head in the sand! Considering her brother Daniel is the local alpha I would have expected the pack to be more involved and supportive of her . As the story progresses the author allows Julia's character to develop and I like that this seemingly soft and vulnerable woman has backbone and comes out fighting.
This was a very easy book to read. It's well written with great dialogue and simply entertaining. I did want slightly more from the pack if I'm honest but as a romance it does work very well. A sexy storyline but not too over the top so those readers who skip the steamier stuff shouldn't be too put out. There's s brief mention of BDSM but please rest assured that this is a sensual story and not an overly erotic one. I really enjoy this authors work and hope this series continues as there are two more sisters I think who really need to find their happy endings . Another winner from Ms Croft . Oh and I adore the simple but stylish cover.
Four and a half from me

My Review:
I really, really enjoyed this book. Everything about it...from Bastion and his push/pull with his demon, Dante...to Julia who has a hate/hate relationship with her wolf that she calls Thing through most the book. I enjoyed how the author created their other sides as separate entities...and both of them are truly at battle within against them, while hiding their existence. It created a fun story with a wonderful amount of conflict to really amp up the suspense of how it was all going to work out.

Julia is a girly girly. Her favorite color is pink and she tends to wear fuzzy pink sweater sets. She is everything the complete opposite of a werewolf, so she's having a bit of trouble reconciling her new status since her change six months before. In fact, she's decided to just try to ignore the issue.

Bastion has been living with his demon for 200 years and every day the demon is getting stronger. Bastion is well aware that he's in danger of losing himself. But the demon can't resist a bet and the two of them have entertained themselves for years placing wagers between them...that's usually the only way Bastion gets moments of peace...when he wins some free time where Dante isn't allowed to make himself known within Bastion's head. So when Dante offers a bet to abandon Bastion forever, Bastion can't pass it up...even if it means that the outcome will be to break an innocent girl's heart. He has to get her to fall in love with him. What he should realize though is that he's dealing with a demon...all isn't as it seems.

LOVED this book. Everything about the story line worked for me and it was scorching hot too. Julia may look innocent, but she hides the soul of a true vixen and I loved that about the story. Warning: there are touches of BDSM in this one so be prepared if you have issues with that. I loved the demon/warlock aspect, but adored the wolf pack drama that continued in this one from book #1. I liked that book too, but something about this one...the political climate in the pack with Julia's relationship with her big brother, Daniel, who's the new alpha...I just really enjoyed it...a LOT. You definitely don't need to read book #1 to enjoy this one. It stands alone beautifully. But I do HIGHLY recommend you pick up this one...it's so good!

What do you get when you cross a warlock with a demon? A tormented hero with an aversion to werewolves, a penchant for BDSM and cage-fighting and the capability of bringing a woman to her knees with his handsome looks and sweet gestures.

Yeah. Complex. That’s Sebastian Crane.

description

Half warlock, half fairy, the man has the devil in him. Literally. He made a deal with a kinky evil demon and for 200 years has been possessed. He’s had enough and to end this hell all Bastian needs to do is find the love of a good woman. Julia Melville is that woman and as sweet and bubbly as she is, she also happens to be in denial at the fact that she is a were-shifter. This is where I recommend reading Operation Saving Daniel as not only was it a super read itself, but it gives the Melville family history, characters cross-over heavily and it sets the scene for Betting on Julia.

What ensues is an entertaining sexy romp with a couple who have a great chemistry and create heat, humour and heartfelt moments in the immortal world. Whilst there were no particular surprises in store, it doesn’t detract from another great read from Nina Croft and I look forward to seeing what lies in store for the remaining Melville sisters.

Love where this series is going!

When Julia Melville was turned into a werewolf against her will (in Croft's SAVING DANIEL, also from Covet) her life was changed forever. Months later and still struggling with her inner wolf she's trying to pretend nothing's changed. When she meets her how new neighbor, Sebastian Crane, he seems like the perfect distraction but what she doesn't know is that Sebastian is more than 200 years old and a warlock. Possessed by a demon he makes a bet that he can get a good woman to say "I love you" in just one month, if he wins the demon sets him free. Bastian needs a good woman like Julia and she's desperate for a normal man but with secrets between them, can they find love amid the lies?

I didn't really care for SAVING DANIEL which introduced the Melville sisters but I've liked other reads I've had from Nina and so I went into BETTING ON JULIA pretty nervous I might not dig it. But it proved to be a great redemption story! Both characters were really likable and in spite of the lying and secrets I managed to quickly start rooting for their HEA. The only area I was kind of disappointed on was that the secondary characters didn't get a lot of face-time and since I wanted more set-up for the series I expected some hints. That aside, this was funny and sexy and a great start to a series that sounds like it's going to be a ton of fun for fans of multi-species paranormal.

A quick and yummy read for the PNR fan who needs a good old fashioned happily-ever-after that has plenty of paranormal elements without losing it's romantic core.

I loved it. Sebastian/Bastian is warlock, possessed by a demon named Dante. Julia is a werewolf, not by choice. Bastian wants the demon gone. there's a bet, a seduction, and then there's love. Great characters, great storyline. I laughed and I got misty, I stressed and then I smiled as everything finally comes together. Looking forward to reading more of Ms Crofts works

While not being my usual cup of tea, which I'm beginning to see has nothing do with the author (because Nina Croft definitely knows how to bring on the action, mayhem, violence and steam) but more to do with the publisher. Covet is more of a Paranormal Lite. For those readers who would like to try the waters of the Paranormal, but not quite ready to take that full plunge into the darkside. Though most authors fail to grasp what that truly means and write more of a Contemporary Romance where one of the characters just happens to have fangs or a set of claws. Nina Croft manages to tone the nit, grit blood and gore without losing the full essence of the wolf.

That being said, I like my werewolves strong, dominant, fur flying trying to tear each others throats out, or fucking each others brains out with no compunction or worrying about hurt feelings, at least until they find their soul mates. Not quite the case here. I would not recommend this to die hard werewolf fans looking for that sense of pack life, danger, blood, history, gore and diabolical plots, but, as a good filler while waiting on that next book, like say, Book 4 of The Order or Blood Hunter series, it is a good read.

Bastien has made a bet against anyone in the Supernatural world knows you should not, a demon. But when the prize is his own freedom, to finally be rid of this demon, how he possibly say no. Especially when the task is so simple, "Get a good woman to say, 'I love you'". There is no such thing as simple when it comes to a demon. The woman in question turns out to be Julia Melville, a werewolf. If there is one faction of creatures Sebastien hates its werewolves, the vial beings who caused him to lose his family and the reason he has been stuck with a demon for two hundred years.

Julia has been bound and determined since her attack to pretend that it never even happened. Except for during her FMS, Full Moon Syndrome. Any time other than that Thing just doesn't even exist. Well, her mysterious next door neighbor is making it impossible to ignore Thing, at times making her volatile and others wagging her tail in utter content. Things become even more complicated with the attraction she feels brewing between the two of them, though neither are even looking for a relationship. As always though, what we're looking for is not always what we need. What she's looking for is normal, anything to help her forget what she really is now. Sebastien seems to just bring it to the surface. But is that necessarily a bad thing?

Fun, magical and with a little action thrown in for good measure, Betting on Julia is an enjoyable, wonderfully written, lite read. Though it did end with quite a few unanswered questions; what happened to Sebastiens' daughter, while his wife may have been mortal, his daughter did have his...genes. Those readers looking for a Paranormal Lite with werewolves, this is the perfect read for you.

Betting on Julia, (Melville Sisters 2),  Nina Croft
Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
So after the first book, with Daniel and Lissa we’ve moved on to Daniel’s sister Julia. She’s struggling to cope as a werewolf, having been changed against her will. She’s dealing by pretending its just a once a month anomaly. It means though that currently she’s unable to have a relationship, as she’s scared of what she might do. Then her new neighbour moves in and it’s insta-lust when they touch....She’s avoided everything werewolf so far, and he seems as normal as they come, a hot and sexy accountant, and maybe just what she needs she thinks. Accountants are normal people – aren’t they? Well, what she doesn’t know is Sebastian is far from normal, but he can’t tell her that, and that he needs her to fall in love with him so he can finally be rid of the demon taking up space inside him for the last 200 years. He just wanted to get her to say the magic words I love you, and then leave. He didn’t see any problems in that, except getting her to fall in love, but he was reasonably confident in his abilities there, and desperately wanted to be free again. So what if its a little mean to her, she’ll be OK, she’ll move on once he’s gone. What he didn’t plan on was falling for Julia.
Julia was fun, bubbly, loyal to her friends and family and working hard at keeping control over her life. I loved her FMS attempt to minimise the werewolf place in her life – FMS = full moon syndrome  Of course ignoring something simply won’t work, and her wolf has started making her presence known at other times..
Sebastian I loved, he’s had a traumatic experience with werewolves when his wife was killed by them several hundred years ago, and has a total hatred of them. He doesn’t know that Julia is one though, and of course it’s not the kind of thing one says to a new boyfriend, so they both go forward into a fledgling relationship withholding huge secrets. It doesn’t take long before both are deeply in love, but conscious of the secrets they hold, and the impact they think that would have. The Demon inside Sebastian isn’t giving up easily either, plus snippets of Sebastian’s other life keep creeping in and muddying up the waters. There’s humour mixed in the the dangers here, and what I enjoyed is the way the story unfolded, with more drama and dangers confusing the issues.
If you enjoy a simple, easy to read paranormal this is for you – its a fun read, some dangers, some spicy sex and a happy ending – I do need those! Its not deep, dark edge of seat drama but a lighter feel.
Stars: Four, a fun, easy to read  paranormal.

Thanks to a bet made two hundred years ago, Sebastian’s a warlock with a demon stuck in him. He’s done being the demon’s bitch, tired of giving into the sadistic bastard’s penchant for blood, violence, and kinky sex. But to gain his freedom, he has to accept one more bet with the demon.

Julia’s sunshine and smiles wrapped in pink fluffiness. She’s also a werewolf who refuses to accept that she is a werewolf. It’s not what she wanted so she pretends to be normal, calls her wolf Thing, and ignores her animal except for that time of the month. Meeting Sebastian’s a stroke of good luck for her because, unlike her, he’s completely normal.

But he isn’t and moving next door to Miss Sexy In Pink wasn’t accidental. She’s Sebastian’s target. Now he has to do his damnedest to get her to say those three little words so he can spend the rest of his existence without the demon in his head. The terms seem simple enough but he should know that making a deal with a demon is never what it seems to be. Because Julia wasn’t picked for her obsession with pink. She was picked because she is something Sebastian hates with every fiber of his being: a werewolf.

What an interesting story. It was a bet-gone-wrong romance with a paranormal twist. Pink shirts, rock climbing, fear of heights, and ice cream. But it was more than dating and getting that coveted phrase. Bastian and Julia’s story was also about unconditional acceptance. Julia had to accept she was a werewolf all the time, not just during a full moon, because she wouldn’t be able to hide that side of her from her warlock. And Bastian had to accept that the woman he loved wasn’t like the wolves who killed his wife, and that it was okay to love her for who she was.

She searched his face as though she didn’t quite believe him, small white teeth nibbling on her lower lip. “You understand that you have to love all of me. I’ve spent too long hating what I am, pretending I was normal. You can’t ignore that part of me. It’s all or nothing.”

The paw still rested against his chest. Now he wrapped his hand around it. The fur was silky soft and he raised it to his mouth and kissed it gently. Beneath his lips, the fur receded leaving a small, delicate hand with pale pink nails. He rested her palm against his heart.

“I’ll take it all.”

Julia loves all things pink. having her nails done and being dressed up. Getting turned in to a werewolf threw a kink into her life and she spends her time now trying to ignore the wolf inside her. She hates having to shift and calls her wolf thing. She is ready to have a little fun in between the full moons. Her hot new neighbor seems just like the normal guy she needs in her life to feel normal herself. Sebastian isn't a normal guy. He is a warlock who is possessed by a demon. He has to do thing to keep the demon happy and from hurting innocent people. He finally has the chance to be free of the demon. He just has to get a good woman to say I love you in a months time. Julia seems like the perfect woman to get to fall in love with him. The two begin to spend time together and grow to care for each other. The biggest problem is what secrets they have between them. Can Julia deal with him not being normal and Sebastian get over his hatred of werewolves to give Julia a chance.

Julia puts me in mind of a Barbie. She is a small blonde and loves her pink. She has a great personality when she is letting being a werewolf get her down. She hates shifting and really treats the wolf inside her kind of bad. They seem to butt heads constantly. She thinks being normal is all she needs. Sebastian has a dark side to him. At first I wondered how much was him and how much was the demon inside. I liked getting to know the softer side of him when he was with Julia. He is very stubborn and only wants to be free.

I love this series and this author. I have yet to read a book of hers I didn't like. Julia and Sebastian are wonderful together. At first they have their own reason for wanting to use each other but they slowly begin to fall for each other. Julia has to learn she has changed and the wolf is only a new part of her. I love how she tries t come up with another word so she doesn't have to say wolf. The demon inside Sebastian is truly a twisted creature. Sebastian hates the stuff he has had to do and battles constantly to keep the demon from doing harm. They both have reasons they should hate each other but they have to learn to work together. If you enjoy paranormal romance I recommend this series and book!

**A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for an honest review**

Publication Date: 08/25/2014
Author: Nina Croft

This is Julie Melville’s book in Melville Sisters series. Julie is petite, loves any shade of pink, and is such a friendly person until she was attacked by a werewolf. This story picks up several months after where book one finished off. Julie is having such a difficult time coming to the reality that she is now a werewolf after being attacked and bitten. Julie is someone who finds that she cannot live with what she does in the werewolf state and It it wearing on her conscience.

As Julie is despairing, Sebastian comes into Julie’s life at that right moment when she least expects any guy, lest of all him- i.e. not looking for Mr. Right / Mr. Right Now- and he shows Julia that he was there for her and was not going to run and was willing to stay. Sebastian knows what it’s like to have bad things happen to good people ( Seb is possessed by a demon ). Sebastian is fighting the good fight and is hoping that he wins. Seb has been possessed by a freaky demon for over 2000 years and in order to get rid of the demon he must find a woman and must have her profess her love for him. It must be sincere and true for the curse/possession to end. Another thing is the Seb has a phobia of werewolves.
So seeing how he interacts with Julie in t his story and how each “confesses” their secrets to each other was great. These are two people who have been hurt by past traumas and because of that, its shaped who they are now in this relationship.

The chemistry between Seb and Jules is intense at times, with romantic moments also with playful and sweet, playful moments between the couple and friends and family. I do really recommend this story. I would recommend reading book 1 “Operation Saving Daniel” so you will understand who all the characters all in this story and how this story is already started up . I cant wait to read the next book in this series.

My rating:4.6 stars ****

Julia is in denial… she is not a werewolf, Sebastian is a warlock…possessed by a demon, Julia wants normal, Sebastian needs the love of a good woman, will they find redemption in this mesmerizing paranormal romance?

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot captures the imagination with well written scenes and details that inspires vivid images and the well orchestrated suspense and drama draws the reader deep into the story while the strong compelling characters grab the reader’s attention and ensure that they are hooked on all the excitement and drama.

The attraction between Sebastian and Julia burns up the pages from the very beginning and features some scorching hot sex scenes full of passion but the relationship starts off on the wrong foot for the wrong reasons causing lots of drama and excitement. The reader can’t help but understand where each character is coming from and get caught up in the story as they are consumed with the need to know more…most especially the outcome.

Sebastian is possessed by a demon…that’s right, a demon, you’ll have to get over that because it is understandable how that came to be and despite the fact that his soul is growing darker, he is still fighting for salvation. Julia captures the heart with her situation, she just keeps on being normal despite the fact that she’s not. The two may have went about their relationship in an unconventional way and be full of emotional turmoil, but they are certainly entertaining in their quest to get where they want to be.

I was completely engrossed in this story from the very beginning. The story has a certain flare that intrigues and captivates as well keeping readers on their toes waiting to see what happens next, especially from the demon. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to hear from Daniel (Operation Saving Daniel) as I was hoping she would write about more of the characters and his sisters stories are a great choice, so I can’t wait to find out which sister’s book is next.

Julia and Sebastian. Now here are two people with some serious issues. Julia was attacked by a werewolf and has become one but, doesn't except her "thing" the wolf part of her. And Sebastian is part fey, part warlock and possessed by a demon. Yep you are in for a wild ride with this one. And did I mention the demon side likes a little kink so, the sex in this book is scorching hot.

Well the demon makes a bet with Sebastian. If he can find a good women, get her to say I love you and mean it, in his time frame, he will leave Sebastian's body. Now Sebastian is all over this wager as he is ready to get rid of the demon that has possessed him for over two hundred years.

Enter Julia. The lover of anything pink and a journalist. Her best friend just happens to be married to her brother. Oh yes and her brother is the alpha of the pack that Julia is so not accepting any part of.

Sebastian hates werewolves as they killed his wife and child causing him so much grief that to extract revenge he made a deal that ended up with him hosting a demon in his body.

Could two people possibly have any more stacked against them? Neither one wants to tell their secrets but as they get closer it is becoming harder. Just when Julia has decided to confess, Sebastian ends things between them without telling her the full truth. He only tells her she was a bet in hopes that she will be so angry she stays away.

The demon of course knew all along that she was the alphas sister. Makes it so much better for the evil guy that he got Sebastian to agree to another wager. One that involves him killing the alpha. Of course Sebastian didn't know it was Julia's brother when he agreed.

It really hits the fan when the truths start coming out. This book was next to impossible for me to put down. I couldn't wait to see how things turned out.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Betting on Julia is the second book is the second book in the Melville Sister series, however, it can be read as a stand-alone. It is an entertaining and humorous read which has come to expect from the pen of Nina Croft.
In this installment, readers are introduced to Julia Melville, a recently turned werewolf who ironically is a vegetarian. She is struggling to come to terms with her new nature. As a result of her transformation she was reluctant to get involved in a relationship as she did not how he could explain what she is to a prospective mate. This decision was taken out of her hands when she met Sebastian Crane.
Sebastian had his own issues to deal with. He is a 400 year old half warlock half few who ironically hates werewolves. This hatred came about as a result of werewolves destroying his family. In a bid for revenge, he became possessed by a demon named Dante. He has been possessed for the past 200 years. The opportunity for freedom came when Dante made a wager with him, which would provide him with his freedom if he could get a good woman to tell him she loves him. This, however, came with a high price as everyone knows that demons can’t be trusted.
The banter between Dante and Sebastian is humorous, however, what had me riveted to the story was the interaction between Julia and Sebastian. The attraction between them was clear from their initial meeting. They both tried to fight their feelings, but it was all for naught. These two had so many secrets and tried to keep them from each other which only made the situation more intense.
So far this seems to be a great series and I can’t wait to see what next Ms. Croft as in store for her fans. If you are looking for a unique paranormal story that has hints of BDSM then Betting on Julia will hit the spot.

This story had every thing going for it including an interesting premise, unique characters, little intrigue and a touch of magic. And yet I feel there just wasn't enough of all of the above. Our heroine is a nice girl but is absolute denial about the fact that she is now a werewolf. I get the premise and I can completely sympathize but it took too long for her to realize that she couldn't just wish her "condition" away which annoyed me.

And our hero is a warlock that has been possessed by a demon for over 200 years and yet the demon "plays betting games" to toy with him. I just didn't buy it. Sorry. We also get such a small taste of magic though out the book which seems like a bit of a wasted super power to me. I don't know about you but I'd have been searching for ways to get rid of the demon rather than suffering for two centuries.

The interplay between Sebastian or Bastian and Dante are an interesting portion of the book but unfortunately didn't keep me entertained through out this story.

There is some BDSM thrown into this book and that is exactly how it appears to me. Thrown into the mix rather than truly being part of the story and more importantly the characters. Seemed to be more of an opportunity to say that BDSM is bad or kinky in comparison to vanilla or normal. This just didn't sit well with me in the story or concerning what the BDSM community is truly about.

Final Thoughts: Unfortunately this is not a book that I can recommend. The idea and concept had loads of possibilities but the end result is not a story that I enjoyed.

Entangled Publishing provided me with a copy of Betting on Julia but nothing else was exchanged for my honest review.

I received an ARC of this book in place of an honest review.

I have read many books by this author and I haven't found one yet that I hate. She's good getting the best out of her characters and there is always a meaning behind every book. You might have to think it over and get the best of the story to figure it out. It shouldn't take you long though.

Julia Melville is a small, blonde, and bubbly woman. Next is why I liked her so much. She has a thing for everything pink. Anyone that loves pink like that has got to be a really good woman. Everything seemed to be going her way until the time she got attacked by a werewolf. Now she tries to hide that part of herself. The spin on it is she is a meat hater and being a werewolf every month leaves a nasty taste in her mouth.

Sebastian Crane is Julia's new neighbor. She can't believe that a man that hot would be an accountant. What Julia doesn't know is it was planned for him to be her new neighbor. You see Sebastian is over two hundred years old and a powerful warlock. The other is the reason he is there. His body was taken over by a demon.

I just couldn't understand that if he was a strong warlock, how in the world did a demon get inside him? I hate to say that they means nothing compared to what Sebastian has to do. Two people that should hate each other seems to have strong feelings for the other.

So do you want to see what happens when they find out the secrets about each other? Well you need to read it and then you will know.

I think the last ten books I've written reviews for could be copied and pasted and apply to all ten books including this one. I didn't finish after 25 pages. It may be an okay book but I am so sick of the same basis for every romance novels just with slightly different plot lines. Girl meets boy. She thinks he's the hottest guy she's ever seen but for stupid reason A, B, or C, she doesn't want to get involved with him. Boy meets girl. There's something special and different about this girl and nobody has had this same effect on him. And oh my did his dick just twitch? Oh why yes it did, like 5 times in just this first 25 pages. Why? Oh because for some reason this girl just does it for him. yeah, I totally buy that! I mean I'm always falling in love with guys after a 30 second conversation. I just know they're different from any other hot guy I've seen! (Note sarcasm). I'm just done with this tired romance cliche. I was intrigued when I read the blurb because I though it would be interesting to see how this guy who has been tormented by a demon would meet this nice, sweet girl and how a relationship would develop between them. But then I started reading and I realize the whole plot is a complete setup. This demon is the one that sets up their meeting and the demon tells him to make her fall in love. Ugh it was so forced. So between the unoriginal romance cliche and this forced storyline I was just not interested anymore. Maybe you'd like it if you don't read as many books as I do and aren't sick of this same old attraction set up but I'm so over it!

BETTING ON JULIA is the second book in the Melville Sisters series. We originally meet Julia in OPERATION SAVING DANIEL (You MUST read it if you haven't yet.) She is Daniel's sister and Melissa's best friend. She was turned into a werewolf at the end of book 1 when she was kidnapped by Daniel's enemies.

Julia didn't know about the paranormal until she was infected and she wants nothing to do with what she has become. Sebastian is a warlock possessed with a demon. He let the demon in during a low point in his life and would love to get rid of him. His chance comes when his demon makes him a deal that brings him to Julia's door. Although there relationship is based on lies from both sided they are pretty hot and heavy and fall for each other rather quickly. As the truth comes out they have to decide what's most important to them or lose the other forever.

It was great visiting with the previous characters from this series. I'm not sure which characters might be featured in book 3 but since the series is titled 'Melville sisters' I have to assume another sister will be thrown into learning about the paranormal. There has not been a book written by Nina Croft that I have not enjoyed. She has a great way with words and her stories are really easy to fall into. If your looking for werewolves and romance this series just might be for you.

WOW does it get hot in this book. I loved this story. I started it and had a hard time putting the book down. A paranormal romance with kink. You feel the emotions throughout this story.

Julia is a journalist for a magazine company and one night she was attacked by werewolves. She is learning how to survive being something that she didn't know existed. She has her best friend and brother to help her. Julia meets her new next door neighbor Sebastian and the attraction is bad that Julia has a hard time resisting Sebastian.

Sebastian has been around for over 200 years and he made a bet with the "devil" on a tragic night for revenge against a pack of werewolves. Now he will do anything to make sure that no evil is able to escape. The "devil" makes another bet with Sebastian and Sebastian can't refuse it as he sees a picture of Julia.

Sebastian & Julia meet and neither one can ignore the attraction. The sex is kinky with BDSM in parts and you may get hot. Sebastian will do what he can to win the bet and Julia will do anything she can to keep what she has with Sebastian.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes reading paranormal romance and doesn't mind kink or BDSM. I will be reading more books from this author. Great job to the author for such a great read.

Geesh doesn't a demon know better than to bet on love? In this novel this wonderful author gives a humorous hot romance. Humorous thanks to the character Julia-hot being the one who will steal her heart Sebastian. He is a powerful warlock possessed by a demon who after all this time bets him if he can get a woman to say I love you in a certain amount of time he will leave him for good. Sounds too good to be true right? Of course with a demon don't trust them as far as you can throw them. The one chosen for such a thing is Juila who is not your average woman either she is also a werewolf. With that being said there is also something else he doesn't know is that but also he hates werewolves with the reason being told in the novel. Sebastian must soon rid himself also of this demon because it is darkening his soul. This author takes you along with these two with their meeting and from there on. Also though he is asked to kill the local werewolf alpha which he really has no problem with but guess who he is to Julia? Ain't gonna tell have to read for yourself. With all the quirks and madness in this novel you will not want to or be able to for that matter put it down till you find out if Sebastian will win his bet or the demon with the answers to all the other fun stuff that goes down in this. Also at the end the winner is love hehe. Received a arc for a honest review.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really surprising mix of magic, demons, werewolves, and bondage. Oh, and there's cage fighting too! There really was something for everyone in this paranormal romance.

Julia was recently turned into a werewolf against her will. She's in the denial phase, much to her brother, the alpha's, disappointment. She just wants some normal in her life, and she assumes that her wholesome looking new neighbor (who is hot as sin) can deliver. Sebastian is a warlock who has been "containing" a demon inside himself for 200 years. In a bet (which always works out so good), he wagers that he can get Julia to say "I love you" to him. In exchange, the demon would leave him and head back to hell. Easy, right?

Julia and Sebastian hit it off in a way that neither of them expect. They both wanted a "no strings" relationship, but what they get is a really sweet love affair, with oodles of hot sex. Wonderful, right? Unfortunately, Sebastian gets all guilty and Julia gets all suspicious, and much drama ensues. If you're interested in a fun and sexy/dirty book filled with paranormal elements, you should definitely give this series a shot.

This is an amazing paranormal read. It has it all. (Werewolves, warlock, fairy and demon.) Not only that but also has kink and BSDM involved too that will capture your attention until the very end.

Sebastian lost it all 200+ years ago and has had a demon with him making him believe he's not a good person. The demon has a kink fetish and Sebastian has to go along with it. However, this demon has made a bet with Sebastian- to have Julia fall in love with him.

Julia isn't herself since the attack. She's not liking to be "not normal". She just wants a normal life. When she meets her sexy next door neighbor she begins to feel something but so does something else as well...

What a unique read. I loved the demon talking to Bastian. I loved seeing a dark side and how it was shown. I loved the sexiness and sweetness of the book too.

Bastian and Julia are amazing together! From their first encounter it was electric!
You will fall for Bastian's sweet side he shows Julia and realizes how it makes him feel.

You'll enjoy Julia's personality and her sexy ways. ;);) wink wink!

Fabulously done!

4.5 stars from me!

***ARC Honest Review Requested by Author***
I am in love with Julia and Bastien..Can I say the fact that he was trying to win her over by wearing a pink shirt was adorable. ***SPOILERS*** so Bastien has had this demon on his back and in his mind for about 200 years due to the fact that the wolves have killed his wife and child so he has thought that all wolves are evil and should die. Then he meets Julia although he did not know she was a wolf until way letter on after they have fallen for each other and are scared to admit it to one another. Julia is still trying to deal with the fact that the now dead alpha turned her and her brother who has become the new alpha. She can't stand the fact that she will err have children as well as a normal life. Bastien comes to her door as a "new neighbor" and her loins are going haywire. Cant give away too much but the fact that there is a hit out on her brother and Bastien is the one who has to do it..but an he HHMMMM you will have to read it. There is suspense..on the edge of you seat danger and sweetness.. and a few OMG how can you be so stupid moments where you are yelling at the characters.

What an intriguing concept! From the first page, I loved Betting on Julia and the intrigue only built with each chapter. There were so many unique ideas, and I loved the slow budding relationship between Julia and Sebastian.

Nina Croft's concepts of demons, warlocks, and werewolves all had their own spin from the typical norm, which was a delight to read. However, that also did mean there was an adjustment factor were I was a bit confused at first with a few things and had to adjust. Once I did though, I really enjoyed the changes she made and looked forward to seeing how they would impact the story.

Julia and Sebastian - I just loved them. I loved the awkward and humorous moments between them when one was trying for one thing, and while the other wanted the same thing, had a completely different reaction. Additionally, they were just so right for each other, and I loved watching them grow closer.

I couldn't tell you my excitement when I realized this was actually book 2 in a series, and I had book 1 to go back and enjoy. This was an excellent first read for me by Nina Croft and I cannot wait to read many more!

Two people - Julia and Bastien. Neither one is 'normal'. But each wants the other to view them as such. This leads to a wonderfully convoluted relationship between a werewolf who despises what she is and a warlock that shares his body with a demon. I enjoyed the relationship between the two of them. Both were hiding vital personal information. Neither quite feeling %100 comfortable with each other and not knowing why.

This was a fairly quick read for me and a fun story. Julia's friend Lissa is a great secondary character. Bastien's friend Melanie was also entertaining.

Betting on Julia is the second of a series, but reads as a standalone. I have not read the first book, Operation Saving Daniel, but did not feel that I was missing anything. Though I did see the potential for Daniel's story and may be inclined to read it also. If think you would enjoy a light urban fantasy story, you should check out Betting on Julia.

I thought I was familiar with everything that Nina Croft had written. I sure don’t know how the first book in this series slipped under my Croft book radar. However, Betting on Julia read fine as a stand-alone since enough information is given concerning the change thrust upon Julia in Operation Saving Daniel (which is now on my TBR list). This book had it all with humor, drama, and hot romance.

It is a paranormal look at what defines normal, accepting who you have become and trying to save the world by not letting loose a demon to wreak havoc on it. Nina Croft does a wonderful job making us believe that all that happens could happen. I like Bastian Crane. He is the flawed hero who is not as bad as he believes and Julia is not as good as he also believes. Julia had to grow on me a little but I think I would be in denial too if I had been changed into the worst thing possible for a vegetarian!

Nina Croft had done it again with a well-developed plot and a few surprising twists. This is up to the high standards of paranormal romance that I have come to expect from her.

after reading the first book about Daniel, the story ended with Julia being a werewolf where Daniel stayed with her and helping her to adjust.

So with this book, Julia mission was getting away from FMS and being normal as the guy or girl next door.
she couldn't even fathom her being a werewolf, saying the word, being in a pack. just getting far away. And moreover she was a vegetarian. so being werewolf doesn't come hand in hand with innocent fluffy rabbit.
Bastian, the accountant next door was the one that game into the game since this book is Paranormal Romance so there will be a story about them and some good interactions where i mean not the hot doggy scene but where he went all his pink way to make a move on her and in the other hand she made of the block move to stay far away.
it was a good read since i was waiting for the one for a long time. this time i don't see who will be the next protagonist for the Melville Sisters.
