It is often said that time heals all wounds. The words are spoken like a promise... A vow. These words are said to people who have been beaten down to their lowest state. To the poor souls who have nothing left to lose. Whispered into the ear of a grieving daughter, told with a shrug to a man who has nothing left to live for.
These are dangerous people.
The down-trodden. The grieving. The ones who love more people dead than alive.
The words should never be uttered. Not to the ones who have no solid ground on which to stand upon, no rail in which to clasp. The white-knuckled moments of life have come to be expected rather than feared.
"Time heals all wounds."
The words are an insult. A slap in the face... and around here, they'll get you hurt. For Averi McClain and her husband Colt, there were few deeper insults.
In the wake of Black Horse's death, a war has erupted. The Seventy Devils are scattered and on alert, gnawing at the bit for the go-ahead to strike. They would not hesitate to spill the blood of anyone who stood in their way of recompense. They knew they would need to act fast if they wanted to come out on top. Colt was not the kind of guy that you slept on. He'd stop at nothing to protect his family and he was lethal whether he was heavily armed or going toe to toe, bare knuckled beat-down style. Colt did have Black Horse's blood coursing through his veins, after all. But then, so did Jimmy, and he is ready to show everyone that the apple didn't fall far from the tree... in fact, they appear to have formed on the same poisoned branch.
As leader of the Devils, Jimmy had seventy miscreants to do his bidding - and three goals in which he needed to achieve:
1. Avenge Black Horse 2. Kill Colt McClain and Randy Ford 3. Take Averi for his own
Jimmy has another thing coming if he thinks victory is easily won. Will Colt and Averi's broken road end in tragedy? Or will they be the ones to banish the devils straight to hell? When the demons of the past rise up, can Colt and Randy face them fearless and determined? Whatever happens, don't expect Colt and Randy to stand alone. Buckle up. The broken road makes for one hell of a ride.

This series so far has engaging lead characters, beautifully damaged yet full of love and passion as they fight for true love and family honour.
Colt and Avery in book one gripped me so much I thought it would be hard to love another couple as much. But Randy and Cheyenne have a passion which speaks even more personally to me. Cheyenne has a damaged past and is in need of someone constant, dependable and who will piece her back together and show her she is worth the fight. Randy is just the one to shield and protect her from her demons.
Together they walk the broken road back to each other. I could tell you how they do that but that would spoil this amazing book for you. So all I can do it say...READ THE BOOK NOW!!!
After Black Horse Addison Kline was a one-click favourite and this has not changed. She just goes from strength to strength with her gripping fast paced stories. I honestly cannot recommend them enough to you all.
An arc in exchange for an honest review so that is what I honestly think
This book begins right after Black Horse ends, so it's a good idea to read the series in order or you'll be lost. Black Horse is dead, but instead of making the Mclain's and their family/friends safe, all that's done is cause a need for revenge by Black Horse's supporters, the Seventy-Seven Devils and Jimmy Hearns.
This story doesn't focus solely on one romantic relationship, but the one I was most concerned with was Randy and Cheyenne. They're split up due to Cheyenne's drug addiction and betrayal of Randy and they're both miserable. Chey has gotten herself involved with the wrong group of people and they want nothing better than to use her for their own purposes and get rid of her. Jimmy Hearns thinks he can use Chey to get to Randy and his brothers, ultimately getting revenge for his father and claiming Avery as his own. What he doesn't realize is that love runs deeper than anything he can throw at Cheyenne and she refuses to bring Randy down. He may not want her anymore, but she knows it's her fault and is willing to sacrifice herself to save him and his family.
The bigger picture is a situation that ends up being a war between the two opposing groups of the town. Lives are lost, good guys end up being bad guys in disguise, and the bonds of love and family are tested and strengthened.
All the parts dealing with Randy and Chey are preparing us for the next book, which focuses more on their journey to get back to where they used to be.
The issues within the town may seem over, but you know what they say about things that seem too good to be true, right?
It is often said that time heals all wounds. The words are spoken like a promise... A vow. These words are said to people who have been beaten down to their lowest state. To the poor souls who have nothing left to lose. Whispered into the ear of a grieving daughter, told with a shrug to a man who has nothing left to live for.
Not for these people.
When the wound is left untreated it festers and grows. Spreading it's infection throughout the body. Time does not heal all wounds as is clearly stated in Addison Kline's second installment of the Breaking Black series.
The 70 Devils are out for vengeance for their fallen leader. He was murdered in his hospital bed in cold blood. While the town felt relief that this monster was gone another one takes his place.
Colt and Avery have traveled a broken, bent and twisted road to get to where they're at now. A baby on the way and fighting to keep what's left of their family all together. Trying to move on from a past that won't give them any peace.
This book was a roller-coaster ride from start to finish. Addison Kline draws you in with a fairy-tale type of love between Colt and Avery only to explode with violence and mayhem. Throughout the story this unconventional family pulls together and fights with everything they have to find the peace they deserve.
I highly recommend this series for the WOW factor alone.
Note: I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Broken Road is Book 2 in the Breaking Black Series. I have not read the first book. But, I was okay. (It would probably help, but obviously not necessary to completely understand the story.) I got the idea of how much animosity there was between the Seventy Devils and those who they hurt. I could automatically understand how passionately people felt about their feelings and their families, because we all feel the same way.
The Devils have made life difficult for the town they live in and all of those around them, especially for one family. The leader of the Devils, Jimmie, seems to have a love for Averi that he can't quench. He must have her. The only problem is - she is married to Jimmie's half-brother Colt, and is pregnant with his child. Averi and Colt's love has grown since they were in high school, if not before. Their love started as a true friendship and has grown throughout the years. Now, Jimmie threatens to take what Colt has to make his own.
Averi's brother, Randy, also has a love, Cheyenne. Cheyenne is a lost soul who can't seem to find her way out of the Devils, and isn't being helped by her own mother and step-father. Through betrayal and trickery Cheyenne is used as a pawn in the Devil's game. Without giving away too much more of the story, I can tell you the story is wrapped up at the end of the book.
Addison Kline does an amazing job of painting a full picture of the story. She gives you all the information you need to know while completely telling the story. There is one section of the book that is a flashback, which was interesting to read. It was nice to get the backstory of how all of the relationships came to be. It made it that much more interesting. Kline takes an extended family and a group of friends and turns them into a whole unit and close knit family. All-in-all a well written book at the root of what a family will do to defend the ones you love.
Averi and Colt thought that the worst was over when the death of Black Horse was announced. They married and waited eagerly for the birth of their first child. The completion of the renovations on the Ranch, the place they could call home and live as a family, were finished and a new beginning was on the horizon...
...What they weren't ready for was the revenge that Jimmy Hearns (Now going by the name of Jimmy McClain)has in mind to avenge the death of his father...and he is determine to take over the Seventy Devils and lead them into war against Colt and all those he cares about.
Jimmy is determined to win the war and his prize is Averi...the only woman he has ever loved, well in his mind it's love, and he is prepared to go to any lengths to have what he believes is rightfully his.
Cheyenne, Randy's high school sweetheart, ruined any chance of a happily ever after when Randy caught her in the arms of another man. She knows she has a lot to atone for, but ultimately she needs to tell Randy the whole story. Randy was broken by the betrayal and will do all he can to protect himself from further hurt and keep Cheyenne at arms length.
In a true renegade style Ms Kline has gone all out to settle the war between Colt and Jimmy...and it is a no holds barred war...a war of minds, a war of souls and as always a war of hearts.
Ms Kline has done it again, a story complete with passion, angst and love!
Averi only wants peace for her new little family...her husband, Colt, and the new little one growing inside her. But Averi and Colt have never really known peace and now a new leader of the Seventy Devils is in town and he is out for revenge.
Family and friends bind together to keep everyone safe. But no matter what precautions they make, will the family really ever be safe and feel at peace? The town seems to have its own set of rules when it comes to providing law and order. So maybe taking things into their own hands is the only way Averi and Colt will ever move beyond the life which included Colt's father, Black Horse.
The story is fantastic and starts off immediately from the first book, Black Horse. At times I thought things couldn't have happened like that in real life, but after speaking directly with the author and hearing real life stories, she knows what she is talking about and brings real life scenarios into the fiction of the story. I look forward to the next book and the characters it may focus on. The characters are real, honest and you desire to want to know more.
This series is amazing. Just like with the first book it grabbed my attention and kept me captivated. The suspense and conflict is so emotional and I loved every minute of it. I am so invested in these characters and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
You have to read this one if you’ve read Black Horse. Heck even if you haven’t you should read. I was still on an emotional wreck from Black Horse. Broken Road picks up with a very pregnant Averi and Colt trying with the rest of their family to move on after the destruction and death caused by Black Horse. Black Horse having been Colt’s father and cause of so many deaths and other evils – Averi’s parents and brother Seth, the death of Colt’s mom, trying to burn Averi and resulting in severe burns.
Jimmy, Colt’s half brother isn’t about to let Colt and Averi live happily ever after. Jimmy wants Colt and Averi’s brothers dead and he wants Averi for himself. Jimmy follows in his father’s footsteps to convince the Seventy Devils into going after and killing Averi’s brothers, uncle, and Colt.
From the start, my heart was racing as we see Cheyenne desperately trying to contact her ex-boyfriend Randy who is Averi’s brother. Randy is having another one night stand while ignoring Cheyenne. He continues to ignore Cheyenne and her attempts to reach out. Cheyenne is Randy’s kryptonite and she is endangered as a pawn when the Devils use her to try to get to Randy and the rest of Averi’s family.
And back to being an emotional wreck, as I was trying to figure out what was going on. As the story progresses, we see a lot of evil and darkness in what Jimmy and the Devils do. They seem to be everywhere including in the police force and they have no regard for anyone or the damage they do. We also see Averi and her family and friends gather together to protect themselves and end the terror. They aren’t afraid to stand up against Jimmy and do what is right.
Jimmy’s madness is his undoing causing more mayhem and, Averi and Colt to lose some really good friends. In the end, Averi has a very fitting Christmas gift for Colt to bring the Broken Road home.
What a great and powerful book. Broken road will leave you reeling in your seat. I was blown away by the amount of very strong emotions that Broken Road seemed to pull from me. At times it was the story I loved to hate. I could not get enough of this book as it took me through the string of emotions and completely turned me upside down and inside out. Averi and Colt have a love and a bond that will stand the test of time. They are one couple who walked through the firey pits of hell and came out slightly scaved but stronger from the journey. They stole my heart. Averi's brother Randy is one man I would not want to go up against in a battle but he could hold me up against him any day of the week. Randy gets toyed with and stomped on until he is all but lost but the fire of passion runs deep and for Randy he will find out how far he is willing to go to take on forces that have no soul! Jimmy and the Seventy Devils are psychopaths that need to be locked up in the deepest darkest pit that can be made and then throw away the key. I have no compassion for any of them. I truly loved this book and was so drawn into the story that my emotions ran like a roller coaster that felt out of control. Addison Kline writes a very unique and powerful story that will capture you and take you down a Broken Road that will leave you wanting to love and hate all in the same moment. I look forward to reading more by Addison Kline as I have become a hopeless romantic fan of her books.
Wow!! This book is great. Broken Road is book two in the Breaking Black series. It is not a standalone, you must read Black Horse first. Black Horse is no longer a threat and there is an investigation as to who killed him. Colt and Randy are prime suspects. Jimmy, Black Horse's other son, announces with proof that he is Black Horse's son and takes over the Seventy Devils. Jimmy is pretty crazy, it's apparent that he inherited a lot of crazy from his Dad. The Seventy Devils are a threat to Colt, Averi and Averi's brothers' happiness. You can't help but wish for the characters to get peace and happiness. I felt this story was a little bit darker than the first and it pulls on more emotions. We find out about Randy's ex Cheyenne in this story. Randy is one of my favorite characters. I was wondering who would be able to handle and Cheyenne was just great for him. I loved the ending. The epilogue left me wondering if we have seen the last of the evil part of Black Horse's family.
Addison Kline has quickly landed on my list of MUST read authors. I have yet to read a single story I haven’t liked. I loved this book; I couldn’t put it down and stayed up all night reading. It’s full of suspense and has great pace. The story grabbed me right in and it was one hell of a ride. Randy and Cheyenne have the kind of passion that goes beyond the pages of the book and right into your very soul. I can’t wait for the next installment.
I thought Black Horse was good, but Broken Road is even better. I loved how Addison went back to High School with Colt and Averi, and Randy, and Cheyenne. She even brings you back to when little Jimmy had a crush on Averi when he was 11 years old. This book brings you a very pregnant Averi. It shows you that family with stick together no matter what.
Well she has done it again! Wow just wow what a great gripping read. I could not put it down – three hours and I was done. Same great strong characters and action packed storyline to get your teeth stuck into. You have danger, car chases, gunfights, passion, the strength of family throughout and so much more – well worth checking out.
Well this time round was a bit more complex as it was not just solely focusing around Colt and Averi. You had a great mix of the other characters from the first book, who play much more of a role this time round – Randy especially.
The saying it’s just the calm before the storm comes to mind with the start of this book. After Colt and Averi got married and found out they were expecting a baby things seemed to be going in the right direction for them for once. Especially after the death of Colt’s father ‘Black Horse’ they thought they were finally free from danger, but with Colt’s half-brother Jimmy Hearns (now going by Jimmy McClain) taking over the Seventy Devils chaos and danger are just around the corner.
Jimmy is as crazy as ever and has decided to take over from where his father left off. The first aim of business is to get revenge for the people who killed his father and to get rid of the competition – Colt – so he can have Averi for himself. To say he is delusional would be an understatement and after he starts taking more and more drugs he becomes very unstable, so much so that you can’t be sure what he might do next.
Averi wanted to feel safe and the only way to have that was to have her whole family away from the danger that still lurks around in the wake of Black Horse’s death. So she convinces Colt, her brothers Randy and Tim and Shelly to all move into the old Hall ranch together. They move in the nick of time for the night after they leave their old house Jimmy and the Seventy Devils storm it and after finding it empty Jimmy burns it to the ground to send a message – he’s coming.
I loved the flashed back scene as it gives you more of a back-story to the start of Colt and Averi’s relationship but more how Randy and Cheyenne got together. Including what Trent was like even as a teenager – you just know he was going to turn out bad. Cheyenne was Randy’s high school love they were together for over 6 years before it all went to hell. With her mother being married to one of the Seventy Devils she was pulled in to their world of drugs and alcohol. After getting hooked Randy broke up with her and only started to give her a chance again when she got clean. But one of the Devils – Trent – had other plans for her and now she is nothing more than a toy for him to play with when he gets bored. She needs Randy more than ever but after what has happened in the past doesn’t know if he will come for her. She should know better really because one thing you learn about our leading men in this series is that they will and have done anything and everything to protect the women in their lives.
With tensions rising, corrupt cops helping the Devils and the danger getting ever closer Colt, Averi, Randy, Tim, Shelly and their closet friends are going to have to come together for the fight for their lives. When you see what they are prepared to do to protect their family and land you get a sense of how strong a unit they really are.
Addison Kline does a great job of setting the scene where you feel you are right there in the middle of the action taking place. Even when there are a lot of characters all in one scene together you don’t ever feel lost; you know exactly what everyone is doing. You just get sucked into the story and don’t get released until the final page turns. A great story that shows you can create your own family, whether blood related or not, and bring them together. Showing the lengths they will go to protect their own in hoping for a better future for the next generation.
****4 ½ Beaten & Broken Fighter Stars**** ~this review may contain minor spoilers~
Their childhood was a battlefield. Colt and Averi didn't want that for their own sons and daughters. What does time do to wounds? Time is nothing but a reminder of how much time has passed since you last saw the ones you love most. The line is bullshit. A scape goat. A cheap cop-out. It is something that people say when they don't know what to say. It's not deep or sympathetic. It doesn't stop the heart from bleeding.
Colt & Averi faced their worst nightmare together when Black Horse returned, and they lived to tell the tale, though not without some scars. Now married with a baby on they way, they may think the worst was put behind them with Black Horses death... they would be wrong; the war is just beginning and it's about to take a violent bloody turn. With the death of their leader, The Seventy Devils are on a rampage; lawless, soulless, and seeking revenge, they will stop at nothing and take out anyone who stands in their way. They are nothing short of a powder keg just waiting to go off and Jimmy Hearns is the match ready to ignite them. He is about to prove to everyone that he is indeed his fathers son as he leads The Devils into war with three things in mind; 1-get revenge for the death of Black Horse. 2-Kill Colt and Randy. 3-Take Averi for his own. But he is about to learn that taking on the McClain's & Ford's is easier said than done, even with The Seventy Devils at his back. And things get even more complicated when a ghost from Randy's past comes barreling in at the worst time possible, adding another twist into their already dangerous, chaotic lives. Every war has it's casualties, who will be left standing at the end of this one? Will Colt and Averi finally find some peace, will their family still be in one piece, will Randy ever find resolution and will Shelly ever feel safe again?
“I'm scared, Ave...” “I am too, but the presence of fear doesn't grant you the liberty of breaking down. Now tighten that jaw and put one of these on,” Averi said throwing a bullet proof vest at Shelly, “I'm gonna teach you how to shoot.” “But-” “But nothing... It's our guys down there. It's not our job to sit up here looking pretty. We need to help defend them.”
After reading Black Horse, I was prepared for the kind of ride I was in for and I was not disappointed. Though the big difference between the two was the violence didn't really come into play in this one til the second half of the book, that does not mean that the first half was in any way slow or easy. Once again, the pace takes off at break-neck speed right from the beginning and does not slow down. The POV jumps through several different characters and you're constantly being hit upside the head with twists and foreboding. There is just no time to relax, every second is laced with tension; it really is exhilarating. I wouldn't necessarily label this a romance, it's more of an action-suspense type deal, though the underlining story really does revolve around love, loyalty, family and the lengths these people go to to protect it. If you're looking for sweet and fluffy, you will not find that here; these characters are not afraid to throw down or draw blood and they cuss like there's no tomorrow, but they love fiercely and without reservation. And hey~no cliffhanger ending! However, it did come across like there is more to be told and I cannot wait to see what comes at us next.
It was like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting, only where the people cursed like sailors and weren't afraid to stand up for what they believed in. The McClain's and the Ford's loved hard, and once you were in, you were considered family.

This is a romantic mystery, an attention holding book. This is the second book in the Breaking Black series, it picks up where the first book left off. Addison Kline does give enough detail that you are not lost in the story, so you could read this as a stand alone, but I recommend reading the first book Black Horse, so you get the whole amazing story. I recommend this book to anyone whom loves an action packed book, an emotional roller coaster, I was cheering, laughing, sad and relieved. This is an perfect example that love conquers all, and that sometimes love is found in the most unexpected places. The heart wants what it wants.
This is Averi and Colts story, there new beginning. They have finally found some peace with knowing that Black Horse is dead. Averi who is very pregnant is able to sleep, Colt is able to breath, but he never lets his guard down, he is prepared for anything. Little do they know that trouble is lurking around the corner in the form of Colt's half brother Jimmy, who plays the role of the mourning son, and he has the power of revenge with The Seventy Devils.
Averi's brother Randy is having a situation himself, dealing with Cheyenne. She has capture his heart but crushed it with her lifestyle choices. She is determined to prove she has changed. She tries to contact him repeatedly to no avail. Until The Seventy Devils use her as bait to get to Randy. Which is another ploy to get to Colt and Averi.
What no one realizes is this unconventional family will protect each other till the end. Enough is enough, they have been through hell and back, doing it again is no problem. Will they have the peaceful ending that they have dreamed of? Or will Jimmy and the Seventy Devils get the revenge they so desire?

Following Black Horse, the first book in this series, Broken Road had some pretty big shoes to fill. An action packed, yet romantic tale of Colt and Averi McClain and their continued journey to gain freedom from the horrendous reputation of Colt's father, Tom "Black Horse" McClain. After the reign of terror that Black Horse unleashed upon the small town of Oakley, Texas, Colt is followed by the name and reputation of the man who killed nearly everyone he loved and left the town shattered time and time again by his monstrous acts of repeated violence and murder.
At the end of the first book, Black Horse met his demise and the young newlyweds thought that they would live a peaceful life since the fearless leader of the Seventy Devils biker gang was no longer around to lead the band of misfits in their acts of wrongdoing. They should have thought twice before assuming anything. Colt's half-brother and polar opposite, Jimmy Hearns has sworn to uphold the legacy of Black Horse and has placed himself at the top of the Devils' ranks. All hell breaks loose when the son of the devil himself sets his sights on something he wants.
A whirlwind of drama follows the crew and a sudden, secret move to the countryside takes place in order to gain the upper hand against the Devils and to throw them off of their path to take a very pregnant Averi from her family. They don't realize that Colt, Randy, and Tim will go to any means necessary to protect their loved ones and eliminate any threat against their safety. There's truly no love greater than that of a Texan man for his family. Or in this case, several Texan men! Not only does Kline weave a tale of love and hate, she opens up the souls of the characters and allows us to witness their mental and emotional growths, as well as their woes and set-backs.
The only problem that I found with Broken Road is that most of the characters have extremely conflicted feelings toward some of the others in the story. Many times, I noticed that their thoughts and emotions contradicted their past statements. For example, Randy warred with himself about his feelings for Cheyenne. One moment, he would swear that he was done with her and the next time we focused on him, he would miss her terribly and wish that she would get her act together so that they could have a life together. I understand that sometimes our hearts and minds do war against one another but it just seemed a bit drastic in this case. All in all, I love this book and fully intend to keep track of Colt and Averi as they continue to strive to erase the fear of Black Horse's legacy and the downward looks at Colt for bearing the last name of the monster who was Black Horse McClain.

Broken Road is Book 2 to the Breaking Black Series, it take up where Black Horse left off. I did enjoy this read and thought it was a wonderful story. I did not feel it was as good as Black Horse, it didn’t have the action that Black Horse did. I do feel this could be a standalone book it gives you enough that you will not be lost if you have not read the first book, however it would be best to read Black Horse before reading this.
Black Horse is dead but life still is on the edge with his other son (Jimmy Hearns) alive and wanting not only blood but Averi. He wants his brother (Averi husband) Colt dead and he will take what is rightly his which is Averi. You are about to find out with Broken Roads.
The author does a wonderful job telling a story of love, lost, heart break and lives that are destroyed through drugs, abuse and people. I love this authors writing style, the way her mind brings together heartache, love into a spell bound story of abuse, drugs, and hate. I did not have the heart stopping suspense that the first book had but it was still an outstanding read. One I would recommend, the author pulls you into a well written book that is truly a wonderful read. I do look forward to see what the author comes up with next, I am sure it will be as wonderful as these who in this series. I give this a 4.5 rating...
This is the second book in this series and they must be read in order. Colt and Averi hope for some peace now that Black horse is dead and they get it for a bit. Averi had to have several surgeries after having been in the fire Black Horse set. She is now 6 months pregnant and doing great. Shelly and Tim and dating and did so secretly for a while. Randy and Cheyenne are off again however it is killing them both. Randy is heartbroken that Chey cheated on him. But did she do it willingly. Randy caught her with Trent however Trent has a habit of getting girls hooked on drugs and then doing whatever he wants to them while they are high and out of it. The crew has decided to fix up the ranch and move there as one big family. It is important to Averi that they are all safe and together. So even though Randy and Colt have just begun getting along they have all agreed to move in together. The decision couldn’t have come at a better time. Jimmy, Colt’s half-brother has decided to take over the seventy devils and get revenge for his father and most importantly to Jimmy get Averi for himself. Jimmy needs the backing of the seventy devils do this. Jimmy is a little too much like his father and is going mad just like him. The drugs and drinking are causing him to lose his mind. Jimmy has taken a childhood crush on Averi and turned it into an obsession. Will he get what he wants or will the crew be able to stop them and the devils? Colt as well as Averi and her brothers have been through so much because of black horse and his seventy devils. Just when they are hoping for some peace they are pulled right back into the mess. Will they be able to finally live in peace and raise their child? I have a feeling there is going to be another book in this series and truly hope there is. I love this story and the characters involved in it. Addison writes a wonderful story that pulls you in and makes you feel for the characters. I look forward to reading other books by Addison Kline in the future. I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Who killed Tom "Black horse" McClain?? That seems to be the question on book 2 of Addison Kline’s Breaking Black Series " Broken Road". Jimmy McClain has 3 goals: 1. Avenge black horse 2. Kill Colt McClain and Randy Ford 3. Make Averi his After watching his father black horse get murdered Jimmy decides then and there he will get revenge on everyone and finally claim what has always been his. Averi. Only there is one problem with that, Averi is pregnant with her husband (Jimmy’s half-brother) Colts baby. If she wasn’t pregnant she would probably knock Jimmy out herself because she has never and will never be with him. During book two complete chaos takes place in Oakeley. Will Colt, Randy, Tim, uncle Shawn, Shelly and Averi be enough to protect their family and home. Or will Jimmy and his newly found president status of the notorious motor cycle gang the Seventy Devils. This story is a mixture of past and present it tells you a lot about Colt and Averi growing up and Randy and his high school girlfriend Cheyenne. Cheyenne also happens to be in deep with the Seventy Devils since her mom is a hang around and is married to one. Cheyenne and Randy have a long history where they would both like to be happy with each other again but can they overcome their difficult past? Can Randy look past the wrong doings Cheyenne did or will she continue with addiction and fail any chance at happiness.... Will Trent allow her to move on or will he continue to take advantage of her and force feed her the drugs she doesn’t want.... Can the Ford/ McClain family finally settle down and just be a family without the threat of Jimmy or the Seventy Devils out to kill them or kidnap Averi, or is it too late. And finally who will gain possession of black horses' estate once his will is released including the property that the seventy devils use as their base of operation and club house. Will the warn between the Seventy devils and Oakeley finally be over or is it the start of a new reign of terror...
WOW I loved loved loved Black Horse and Broken Road was even better if possible !!
I did cringe a few times with the violence but damn I enjoyed the way it all went down. I am so glad they got some justice for the horrible drama these people have brought into their lives.
Averi and Colt are now married and expecting. There is a lot of drama surrounding them because of Black Horses death. They are moving into the country to Averi's grandparents old house and I love that it is not just Colt and Averi moving it is Tim , Shelly & Randy too. I love this "family" and I am so happy they were able to overcome their grief and differences.
What I love in this story is how we get to journey back in time to the high school Colt and Averi !! OMG swoon !! We also learn how Jimmy's obsession with Averi came about. There is also a bit about Randy and Cheyenne and I honestly love their story past and present , I would actually love to read about their future...hint hint
This story does have some real life touchy subjects going on. There is sexual , emotional and substance abuse. Cheyenne's story is horrible , I have a very different feel for her now. I am glad Randy is such a stand up guy because he really does save her life.
Colt and Averi are such a great couple. They have it all , despite the drama surrounding them , they are happy , in love and very committed to their family and of course each other. I love never having to wonder if they are going to have issues. You just know it will never be about them being heartbroken by the other. That is refreshing.
I was very pleased with how the story came full circle. Is the drama over for them ?? Will they be able to live a peaceful life now ?? I hope so they really do deserve it !!
I am so glad I was able to read both of these books. I look forward to reading more from Addison and I would love more from the gang here !!
Colt and Averi are expecting their first child. Randy is miserable because Cheyenne was caught with another guy in her bed. Tim and Shelly are dating and the police are trying to solve who killed Black Horse in the hospital. After everything that everybody went through when Black Horse was trying to kill Averi nobody really want to stay in the house that Colt and Averi first lived in again. Especially since the police, not with to much help from Uncle Shawn, were trying to connect Randy and Colt to the murder. It was decided that everybody needed to be together in one house so they moved into the old house that Averi and Her brothers grew up in.
Colt and Randy never were totally settled that the Seventy Devils would just relax but what they didn't expect was who would take over as leader. It was Jimmy. Jimmy had his own motives to be leader and that led him to make sure he had the Devils on his side. Their was one person he wanted and wanted he would get. Or he would die trying. Things started to fall apart for the Devils when they shot up Randy's truck and he drove it into the side of their headquarters. When they went to get revenge at Colt's gym a lot of the members were arrested.
When the time came to end all. It was all out. But who would come out the other side as victor's. Would be Colt and his family? Would it be the Devils? What would happen to Cheyenne and Randy? Would they survive or die? What would Averi's baby be? Would she survive the battle? These are so many questions that end up getting answered as well as a few laughs and tears.
The author best says it when she writes " The broken road is not an unfixable one".
I received Broken Road in return for a honest review.
Broken Road is Book 2 to the Breaking Black Series. It continues from where Black Horse finished. Black Horse is dead and his son Jimmy plays the role of a mourning son, he's earned the respect and power of the most violent motor cycle club. To say the Devils were out for blood is a understatement of epic proportions. Each thirsty to drain blood from Black Horses murder. If the devils were hostile during Black Horses rein, it was nothing compared to there mental state after Black Horses murder.
-- A war was about to erupt and what a eruption it was !!
As leader of the devils, Jimmy had three goals he needed to achieve. 1. Avenge Black Horse. 2. Kill Colt McClain and Randy Ford. 3. Take Averi for his own.
Will Colt and Averis broken road end in tragedy or will they be the ones to end Black Horses sadistic rein once and for all ? Jimmy has turned a childhood crush into a obsession but would that lead him to his own demise ?
I was a little conflicted while reading Broken Road. I didn't like the way Addison was flipping from character to character every few pages, made things a little confusing at times. I would have preferred if she had put these into whole chapters ! I felt the first part of the book dragged a little but after a while it soon picked up it's pace to one massive explosion which was fantastic. I love all the characters in Addison's Breaking Black series, I have loved following there little family along the way, it has been a true pleasure to be given the opportunist to read this series. Would I recommend ? Of course 100%
I was given this book in turn for an honest review!!!
With Black Horse dead; Colt, Averi and their family can move on with their lives and finally feel safe; or can they? The Seventy Devils seek revenge and Jimmy is determined to avenge his father.
Addison Kline has written an outstanding second book to the Breaking Black Series; action packed suspense with shocking twists. I absolutely loved this second book and struggled to put it down. Averi is as strong and as independent as ever; the way she carries on with her life considering the injuries that remind her every day of the fire Black Horse set to kill her is inspirational. Colt, Averi, Randy, Tim and Shelly each show a strong united front; that no matter what life throws at them they will always have each other’s backs. This book also gives us a deeper in-depth look into the relationship that Randy and Cheyenne once shared. Colt and Randy have also grown; not only as men; as a partnership; with one mission in life; to always protect Averi. Addison Kline did not disappoint with Broken Road; with each page turn you are kept captivated and intrigued; without a doubt this is an action packed amazing series. I look forward to reading Breaking Black book #3 in the series I know for sure this family still have more threats to face and their united front will not go down without a fight!
I recommend reading Black Horse book#1 in the series before reading this book; they do need to be read in order.
If you love suspenseful, action packed, plot twisting, mystery romances you will absolutely love this series.
Broken Road is the second book in Addison Kline’s Breaking Black series. After ridding the world of Black Horse, you’d think that it would be smooth sailing for Averi, Colt and their family. Unfortunately with the news of Jimmy Hearns being Colt’s half-brother, Jimmy working with the motor cycle club, Seventy Devils to exact revenge against Colt and his family for their father’s death and wanting to take Averi as his own, they along with their family were headed for more rough seas. But with the help of their Uncle Shawn, they are better equipped to survive the incoming storm.
In this book, you not only follow the story of Colt and Averi, but also of Randy and Cheyenne. I was more drawn to their story because I found Randy to be an intriguing character. How can one so loving towards his family be so angry about anything and everything? And how could he hate Cheyenne so much? Randy and Cheyenne, whose stepfather was a member of the Seventy Devils were high school sweethearts. Their relationship was not always an easy one, but they made the best of their situation. Giving each other that little bit of happiness they both needed living in a tragic world. Unfortunately it was her addiction to drugs and alcohol that caused Randy to end the relationship. That and catching her in their bed with one of the members of the Seventy Devils.
This story was full of suspense and touching moments. Addison did an excellent job with tying up all the loose ends leaving this reader happy and satisfied. But I am suspecting this is will not be my last visit to Oakeley, TX.
Can an Author become more amazing book after book? Abso-fuckin-lutely!!!! Addison Kline truly stepped up her game in this story. Grabbing your attention from the very beginning and sending your mind and emotions on a whirlwind of a ride.
Addison has an amazing talent to keep you on your toes and your heart racing a mile a minute gripping at the edge of your seat. Broken Road picks up from the first book, Black Horse, and Jimmy, Colt’s half-brother, is out for vengeance and to claim what he wants. And what he wants is Averi. Calling on the Seventy Devils and shit really starts to hit the fan.
The Seventy Devils are ruthless. They don’t have a care in the world and will kill just about anyone. They’re stirring up mayhem and they’re out for blood.
In this story not only do we get more of Colt and Averi but we get to see more of Randy and his love interest Cheyenne. And that’s when this book takes on a whole different set of twists and turns. Cheyenne is part of the Seventy Devils family. She is used a pawn to get to Randy.
The suspense alone will have you so consumed you will want to finish this in one sitting. My eyes were glued to my kindle and I did not want to be bothered. Addison Kline is truly talented. The story line was absolutely fantastic and the characters are amazingly written. The delivery of the story flowed so much better in this one.
Absolutely amazing and entertaining story. Loved all the action and suspense. And most definitely love a man who is willing to go down but will go down fighting guns blazing!
If I thought I loved the first book in this series, I don't know what I can use to say how much I enjoyed Broken Road! Holy wow- where do I even begin. This book picks right up where Black Horse left off...Black Horse has died and sleazy Jimmy is trying to take over the ranks of the Seventy Devils. He has his sights set on Averi and to get to her he has to take out anyone who stands in the way- including her husband and brothers.
We also get more of Randy and why he acts the way he does. He is broken-hearted over Cheyenne. This new plot line plays a big role in the events that unfold in this book. The final showdown at the Ranch, yikes. Colt is ready to do whatever it takes to defend his woman and his family. He gets some help from his gym buddies. Randy is the same when he realizes what had been happening with Trent and Chey. Being the no-nonsense woman that she is, six months pregnant Averi is ready to go out guns blazing. However, she protects her family in the wings by covering everyone.
Overall, this book was more than I expected. I thought there would be a lot of filler and unnecessary back and forth. I was very wrong. There was nothing wasted in this book. It had all the drama and intrigue of Black Horse but with even more danger. I honestly bit my nails off reading a few of the scenes involving the enemies. I was so glad that Jimmy, Trent and Dave got the ending they deserved. I was shocked at the end when Addison Kline set up for yet another installment of this series!
