Inspired by real events, the story weaves a rich and complex narrative set against the backdrop of the Egyptian revolution of 2011 and 2013. The author brings to life flesh-and-blood characters caught in the tension between tradition and modernity, as geopolitical stakes threaten to ignite conflict across the Middle East. The Light and the Ashes volume II

Fadilah and Aïcha remained friends after Fadilah's studies in archaeology ended. After devouring The Blood of Stones, I had high expectations for its sequel, The Light and the Ashes. I was not disappointed! The intensity and depth of the first book are still there, but with even greater maturity in both writing and themes.
What I loved most was the continuity: the characters we learned to love (or hate) evolve in an even more unpredictable and tense context. Their choices feel increasingly heavy with consequences—not only for themselves but for everything around them.
Once again, the author brilliantly weaves together the personal and the political. Love, ideals, violence, and betrayal intersect in a story you can’t put down. The pages fly by, yet the novel also makes you reflect on issues that are frighteningly current.
If The Blood of Stones hooked me, The Light and the Ashes fully won me over. A powerful, moving sequel that confirms Pierre Laflamme’s remarkable talent.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The sequel we were waiting for – The Light and the Ashes.
Pierre Laflamme continues the story begun in The Blood of Stones, delivering a political thriller of rare intensity. Two years after the events of the first volume, Egypt rises once more: President Morsi falters, Tahrir Square ignites, and revolt spreads through the streets of Cairo.
At the heart of this chaos, Fadilah—now a graduate—pursues her personal journey while remaining close to the enigmatic Aïcha, whose secrets keep the tension alive. Laflamme skillfully blends international espionage, terrorist plots, and complex geopolitical stakes, while breathing life into vivid and believable characters.
The strength of this novel lies in its ability to combine action with reflection. Every decision carries weight, and the writing—visual, cinematic—pulls the reader straight into the fear, urgency, and fragile hope of the moment.
The Light and the Ashes confirms the power of the diptych begun with The Blood of Stones, offering a gripping tale where politics, love, and courage intertwine with intensity. A must-read for anyone following Fadilah’s journey and the turmoil of today’s Middle East.
