Equipped to Counsel - A Training Program in Biblical Counseling

Rate this book
The first segment of this training will present essential foundations of biblical counseling - the elements of counseling that must be included if we are to call our counsel "biblical" or "Christian" or "godly". Here we will define biblical counsel, identify its essential pieces, and introduce both general and specific methods for biblical counselors to apply throughout their service. While certain methods of biblical counseling covered in this course are quite specific, we will not deal in counseling style and other details believed to be negotiable and less critical to the effectiveness of counseling.

Over all this is a very solid introduction to biblical counseling. The first several modules are basic biblical theology, so anyone with previous training and experience will find them to be a review. Also, the introductory chapters do not fully present an extensive enough eschatology that is needed as it relates to counseling. I realize this is supposed to be an introduction, but it would be helpful to include a description of counseling practice outside the local church vs within.

The most helpful part of the natural is some of the charts given to help map how counseling matters can be linked together with a biblical teaching of humanity. Those I will certainly reference in the future.

This book completely changed how I view biblical counseling, what it is, why it’s so important, and how to do it!! Read this as part of a biblical counseling class to better equip myself to counsel others and ended up gleaning so much wisdom but also uncovering even more of me that needs to be refined by the Lord! I love how it forces you to work through things in your own heart so you can more fully show up for your clients or people you’re counseling. Will probably reference this book for the rest of my life because of its dependency on scripture and practical scenarios!

This was a textbook/workbook for a certification course I took through Association of Biblical Counselors (ABC). It was a a really well written and helpful book. It helped me grow in my understanding of how to minister to and counsel people with the Scriptures. It also does a great job explaining how the gospel impacts, and is the ultimate solution, to every part of life and all of the struggles we face as believers.

Great resource for anyone who wants to grow themselves and wants to help others grow in their Christian life.

This is the book I have been looking for, a counseling book based from the Bible. The first half of the book or so give the foundations and the latter half goes into methods and practices. ETC helps equip Christian leaders (from the senior pastor to the new May leader) care for people with grace and truth. Highly recommend.

I read this as part of the Association of Biblical Counselors Level 1 training course. The training has made me love God’s word so much more, and be on the lookout more and more for how God lovingly and wisely counsels people.

Great resource for biblical/pastoral counseling or any type of discipleship. It rightly points to the heart as the root for all sin and brokenness and points to Christ as the answer.
