The Rigveda reflects a civilization rich in knowledge, valor, and deep philosophical thought.

The novel Vishpala by Anjesh Baranwal ji brings alive the essence of Rigvedic life. It is the second part of a larger journey that began with Sangachchhadhvam. In the first part, Sangachchhadhvam, the story started with a question and took readers across different time periods, exploring the evolution of ideas and civilizations. Vishpala continues the story from where the first part ended, focusing closely on the lives of Rigvedic characters, especially Vishpala, her brother, and their parents.

The whole plot of a family waking up from the inside has been wonderfully captured against the backdrop of the lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic when innocently asked questions flowed in unstintingly spiritual curiosity. Everyday common themes are translated beautifully into the most supernatural journey into India's Vedic heritage. The author revives completely the ethos of that Sindhu valley, grandeur of the ancient gurukuls, and feminineness from those times. The narrative is neither didactic nor doctrinal but flows as a river of insights beckoning its readers to introspect on their roots. By using Rigvedic hymns, historical metaphors, and symbolic storytelling, the book goes on revolutionizing the generations. The imagined community who lives harmoniously by the river with strength of spirituality, cooperation, and karma sounds almost utopian, really. By these symbolic characters, like "Vishala," Barnwal creates significance for modern women to reconnect with their forgotten might. This book is a beautifully woven continuation of the journey that began in Sangachchhadhvam.
The COVID-19 lockdown sets the stage for this novel about how a modern family awakens to ancient Vedic wisdom through the innocent curiosity of a child.

The unusual blend of fiction, history, and philosophy recalls and paints a vivid picture of the Rigvedic era.

Through rich symbols, especially the strong-forged character of Vishpala, the author reclaims for her readers some of the forgotten values of a culture and the feminine strength embedded in the history of India. Rigvedic verses evoke emotion in this novel, poetic prose sets it to music, and historic metaphors lift the way to intellectual enrichment.

Author quite aptly embodies Vedic life: the simple life of ritual and spirituality enmeshed in social spirit. This riverside karma and cooperation-based society seems utopian but is astonishingly relevant. Rather than an academic account of the time, Vishpala becomes a moving and philosophically intense invitation to introspection on matters of heritages pertinent to their identities.

Set at the backdrop of a worldwide lockdown, it creates a beautiful picture of a simple family's daily mundane life and gradually brings in the depth of a spiritual journey. The story moves from dinner conversations to fantastic magical forests, to ancient caves, and wisdom rishis. It stands out in making Vedic wisdom, accessible. The characters are neither saints nor sages-they are very human, interested people trying to find a deeper meaning in life. The language is deceptively simple while still evocative or lyrical. It flows with grace and has deep meaning- karma, dharma, and the inner fulfillment. Vedic hymns besides the sacred syllable 'Om' add multi-layered meaning without garroting the reader. Further, it shows how in history women, like Goddesses have been active and wise contributors to society - which holds still today. Fictional Sindhu river gives a far better model for spiritual and social harmony. This is indeed worthy of being hailed as a novel in Indian literature. It will be truly enjoyed by readers who want to savour a story yet stay connected with India's sacred ways.
