Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.

Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.

In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

If you're like me, you watch season three and you wanted to read the actual comics. I feel like this edition is best if you don't want to break the bank because buying this in stores for 65 USD for the compendium is crazy. Believe me I would get them, but I got to spend my money responsibly. Anyway, it's been a while since I read an actual comic book, and this felt super refreshing and familiar to read. I like the stereotypical hero finding his place in the superhero world and learning the outs and ins. The pacing is slower than the actual show and for me personally it works. I don't mind slow-paced stuff if it's good. I heard a lot that Robert Kirkman's stories take some time to really kick into gear. Meaning they start slow but finish strong.

Oh, if you're expecting it to be just like show story/pacing wise, it's not. Some arc/storylines are absent from the first season and some aspects of the show aren't in the book. Like Ryan Ottley said the shows is an "amazing second draft." Yet I still really enjoyed the comic, and I would recommend it to both fans of comic books and fans of the show. I really like how the colors popped and the I really like how the outer space scenes looked. Also, the color shading is really good. "It's my first time reviewing a comic, so I'm hoping I'm using the proper terms". My personal favorite chapter is chapter five because Allen the Alien gets introduced plus the fight in outer space.

I would say that some art on some panels seem a little off sometimes. Some scenes and characters do sometimes look a little wonky, but it's nothing to really hate about. Believe me it's better than what I can do, so I can't complain that much. Overall, I'm loving the comic, and I'm really looking forward and reading more of it. It's going to be a while until the next season.

I've recently started watching Invincible through Amazon and knew about the existence of a comic/graphic novel version of the series. As I always am when I learn about the book version of a movie or a tv show I wanted to check it out and see how it compares. I'm really not sure how to present an answer to that thought.

The comic version of Invincible is quite different than the series in both good and bad ways. I guess I liked the idea that Mark isn't thrown into the deep end quite as quickly in the comics. He seems fairly capable and teams up with his dad and seems to have more conversations with him here than in the series before the massive spoiler and twist that takes place.

I also like that he had a smaller villain that didn't get presented in the animated series. This is very much connected to having Mark develop a bit slower. Having him take on a villain close to him, but one that isn't a huge level threat seemed like a great start for Mark/Invincible. I think I just liked the seeming stability that Mark had starting out where the animated series went for a constant instability that left Mark reeling.

However, I also liked the series better for in a number of ways. I felt like the series does a much better job of developing side characters. I liked how Debbie was fleshed out and how the teen team faced off against the flaxans instead of just Invincible and Omni-Man attacking them. Even the Flaxans themselves are given far more development in the series which I found more enjoyable.

One other thing I didn't love about the comic was the art. It's good, but it feels a bit weird in places with people's faces being super angular and looking a bit off in my mind. However, I am looking forward to working my way through the series to see how each progress this was a good start and I'm sure as we get into more of the twists and turns of the series it'll be more intriguing.

As I’m waiting for the fourth season of Invincible to come out, I decided to look back at the first volume of the comic series. And it did not disappoint. Even though there were some very unorthodox character drawings and different story progression, Kirkman x Walker x Crabtree still did a great job.
