I wasn't supposed to be there. Wrong room, wrong time, wrong guests.
I have always been a beta through and through, and I accepted that. As a maid at Knottinghill Spa, my life wasn’t exactly high class, but, with a mixed up schedule, I suddenly meet a sight that shakes me to my core.
The Risler Sin, Caspian, and Kai - two alphas, and their omega - in heat. Hot, naked and sweaty, and reaching for me.
I should have left, I could have; except for the rich smells that flooded my senses and the fire that exploded in my body the moment we touched.
One night together doesn't mean anything. But they need a female omega to fulfil their family's wishes, and it can't be me. I refuse to be some rich pack's toy, no matter how desperate they make me, my body shaking, perfuming, and dying for their knots.
This is Part One of a Duet and ends on a cliffhanger.
Welcome to the Knottinghill world. Each book is full of sexy omegaverse fun, with heats, knotting, nests, and all the lovely drama of a why choose romance.
Brandy Snap is book two of the Suck It Up series but can be read as a standalone. Reading book one, Bubblegum Pop, might enhance your enjoyment of book two, though it is not essential to read one before the other. This book contains explicit scenes and is recommended for readers 18+
We're back in Knottinghill again for this first part of this omegaverse novel.
This is part of the Suck It Up series and having read and loved Bubblegum Pop, I couldn't wait to dive on in.
I loved the little twist for this storyline as instead of our focus being on one of the hosts, we meet beta, Melanie, who is one of the clean up crew at the Spa.
An unexpected encounter in one of the heat suites throws up all kinds of questions for Mel and the ensuing proposition by an irresistible pack may prove too good an opportunity.
There's not really too much I want to say about the plot in this one because there's an opportunity to give away way too many spoilers - but I found the storyline in this to be much more fleshed out and intriguing than some of the other OV novels I've read before.
Dont worry, there is plenty of spice to satisfy us still, but the plot lines really gave me something that I've not come across before as well as leaving me with so many questions.
As suggested by the title, this is only part one of this novel and so does leave us on a bit of a cliffhanger.
The story does conclude in a good place ......but like an episode of your favourite drama, there's no way you won't be instantly craving part 2!!
I loved the characters that we meet here.
Mel has such an intriguing personal storyline and I actually cannot wait to find out much more about her situation.
The pack has a strange dynamic that I've not encountered before (I'm an OV novice so I'm still learning) but each of them has so much going on and again, I'm fully invested and need to know more about the family dynamics and how things will play out, as well as what will happen within the pack too.
A brilliant read and I need, need, need to get hold of part 2 asap!!
This book really messed with my emotions—in the best and worst ways. Kai? Hate him. Which, honestly, probably means the writing is solid, because I feel way too strongly about this fictional man. And Melanie? I spent the whole book frustrated at how she’s treated—gaslighted, verbally berated, just overall borderline abused. What really gets me is that she just mostly accepts it, which makes my blood boil.
Now, here's the personal contradiction—I tend to gravitate toward dark themes in books. My normal reads are definitely on the darker side, and the exact things I "hate" about Melanie's situation are things I’d probably be into in my usual picks. But I didn’t expect to find them here, in an OV that I went into expecting a sweet type outcome quicker. Even in the first Suck It Up series book, Bubblegum Pop, the “dark” parts didn’t come from her scent matches. So I was not expecting it here, but can’t say I’m disappointed either.
So now… here I am, impatiently waiting for book two like an absolute fiend cause I need this girl to get pissed already!! 😂 It sounds like that is exactly what is coming and I am so here for it.
Any book that can get me this dragged in needing to know what comes next deserves all the stars. ⭐️
I'm obsessed with part one - I couldn't pick a favorite character even if you paid me, because let's face it, they're all amazing. It's action-packed, fast-paced, and basically a rollercoaster of emotions with zero dull moments, and the spice? Absolutely on point. I'm hooked and already counting down the days until the next book.
I have many feelings about this book so this may be a bit of a ramble. Mel our FMC has been presenting as a beta all her life until entering the wrong room at work threw her into an explosive switch to suddenly designate as an Omega. Something she has been wanting her entire life. What follows is a sort of non consensual event type with the hottest Alpha and Omega she has ever met. She leaves and about 2 weeks later after she has weathered the storm of them using her, a bit of degradation she didn't know she was into and issues with her job(spoiler she worked as beta, no other allowed so fired) her mother in a nursing home she can't afford , her sister being a jerk and not paying. She calls the guys and enters their world. Fun fact that world of theirs is a terrible place and she's not up to it. Also easily a doormat type of character
The men, Kai the Omega who is a fashion designer and is stereotypically introduced here as flamboyant, emotional, dress wearing, insecure man. Caspian ,Alpha in pack. Weak, overwrought, easily influenced as per the first chapter after which we see he cannot control himself and Zania the MIL from hell is lancing them with well placed punches and the use of Camille, his other pack mate sister he was in love with as a teen until he fell for her older brother bit him and formed the pack. Sin, the other Alpha, brother of Camille. Also up his own head. Not strong aura or whatever.
Very early on, I became very confused about the ages of the characters as the writing gave very teenage angst , a bit of reading and it's late 20s early thirties for Sin maybe.
I have many questions, see below: 1)What sort of omegaverse is the author writing in. How can omegas form bonds with each other? 2) What is the explanation of auras etc, felt pulled from another set of books I read recently so not sure if it's based of that as it had same sort of undertones. 3) Why are all the men bipolar in their emotional inner mo ologue and outer behaviour. Their pack is clearly unstable, Kai bites them constantly to leave his marks as he is insecure. Their bonds do not calm them or make them a great team. 4) Why would Mel think that she would stand up for Kai and expect anything back from him as he's met her twice and does not like her clearly. 5) Why would an pack after bonding g go to a spa to have their Omega heat, if we follow the omegaverse thrones, should this not be done in Kai home nest, not just a random place they go the day before throw stuff together nothing scented etc and just crack on. 6)What is wrong with Camille? What is her mysterious condition. Also there seems to be a stronger man who could help Camille but Si and Caspian are afraid of him supposedly because his aura is so great he can flatten them all, like a whole room of people, and seems to want to help. Instead they cling to her and put themselves in the path of Zania machinations. 7) What is the point of the selection ceremony anyway, the pa k has already chosen and been established for a while, what is the point of them doing it now?
All in all, the pack really don't act like a solid pack, it's a mess. I could not give but needed to get to the end to see how this wrap up. Also Kai is a hateful character he loves to see others hurt case in point, Zania manhandled and treats Mel like crap at her party and his inner mo ologue is that she deserves it, he's smiling behind his fan at her abuse. He kills a bird because it annoyed him. Like this guy is also unstable and really probably deserves the shot Zania gives him. I mean Mel offered him sympathy and his inner monologue is that he wants to whip his fan out and slap her because she looked at him with a bit of emotion. Honestly I don't know, it's a shit show ride that's for sure and there is nothing that is keeping these characters together apart from scents.
These people literally tucked this girl for about 6-9 hours, then two weeks later is taking her to meet their parents to be cursed out.
Wowza, and I know own she called them as she needs the mo ey they offer her but as you read this you gotta agree this is not a love story, this is a hate fuck, mildly potentially incestuous Cas and Camille with Sin in that mix, type of read.
if this book series is a duet then I can tell you right now that it’s not worth it. This felt like a whole lotta nothin happened. The bullying? It wasn’t even bullying, they were just treating her like shit and she spread her legs for it. The fmc had 50% good basis. Her backstory was great up until she basically became a walking wet hole for majority of the book and had no personality beyond that. I’m supposed to believe she’s this angry vengeful woman when all she’s done is beg for knots?
The mmc’s were even worse. The author just took a bunch of shitty qualities, stuffed them in characters and expected us to believe they’re back and capable of being good mates. All they do is fuck and abuse their “mate.” I’ve read tons of bullying novels. It’s one of my fav tropes but this wasn’t bullying. It’s just shitty ass men being abusive and we’re supposed to find it hot. They have no depth, no connection, nothing. All they do is fuck and abuse Melanie.
And Kai is such an insecure childish asshole. his “mates” literally just fuck him to shut him up. And he just lashes out because they simply blink at the opposite sex. I’m really supposed to believe they love each other? LOL. This is one of the worst packs I’ve ever met.
I don’t know if I’ll check out the next book, the first book really made no sense and the author was really trying to force a plot in book full of character flaws in 320 pages. Because what do you mean we’re going to go defend and protect a pack that’s been nothing but abusive and still does not care about her? They literally do not care for her and still haven’t realized they’ve fucked up so what was the point of this book if it’s supposed to be a duet.
Also some of the chapters droned on and on and on. I found my eyes blurring at some of them. They do not need that much blabber. I know I could give this 1 start but it wasn’t complete dogshit. Like everything up until the phone call was okay then the story went straight to shit.
I just know the next book will probably be a waste of my time.
EDIT: two days later and now suddenly the book is a trilogy because book two was “too awesome”…yeah it’s gonna be bad lmao

Amazing, spicy omegaverse novel with tropes like insta lust, fake dating, rejected mates, double heat and some omega drama.
The FMC, Melanie, stumbles into a wrong place at the wrong time and her life changes completely. Her storyline was incredibly sad at times, she was gaslit, her sister was a horrible bitch and even the pack she scent-matched with (or the family of said pack) didn’t treat her that great. Still, she stayed strong and was willing to help and defend others. I can’t wait to see what happens to her in the next book.
The chemistry and pack dynamics were great and the double omega situation brought some nice drama to the story. At times I hated Kai, he was so annoying, but he seemed to have another side to him too and I can’t wait to see how things work out between him and Melanie, if they do.
The writing was great and really made me feel for the characters and also made me feel like I was in the middle of the story. I can’t wait to read part two and see what happens next! And now I really need to read the first book in the Suck It Up (Omegaverse) series, Bubblegum Pop.
“Why had I wanted to be an omega? Why did I think going into heat would be amazing?” “You think you get to make the rules here? I’m the one fucking you now. I’m the one you answer to.” “This pack is mine. So, stay in your fucking lane.” “Because if I was broken, then I wouldn’t have to be strong. Or try to be. I could just let myself shatter and not have to fight anymore.”
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
This book completely hijacked my emotional state—in the best, worst, and most addictive way possible. I am so glad I was able to receive the ARC.
From the moment I met Melanie and Kai, I was in deep. And when I say I had strong feelings, I mean I was mentally pacing and talking back to the page like I was part of the story. That’s how you know the writing hits. It pulls you in, messes with your head, and refuses to let go.
There were moments where I felt genuinely frustrated—especially watching how Melanie navigates certain dynamics with the Kai, Sin and Caspian. The power imbalance, the tension, the emotional manipulation? It had me clenching my jaw. But at the same time, I was hooked. Because as much as I wanted to shake Melanie and scream “stand up!!,” I also understood her. And that complexity is what kept me turning pages. I am so intrigued to about her relationship with Caspian and the crumbs in this book wasn’t enough I can’t wait for the next.
I’ll be real: I went in expecting something lighter, something with less grit. What I got instead was raw, dark, and layered. And while parts of it made me uncomfortable, I appreciate when a book isn’t afraid to go there—even when it hurts a little.
There is an old adage that hurt people hurt people. This sums up this book perfectly. Abby created a world male Omegas are not valued. Money talks in ways that make violence in public okay. Abusing those you love or what to love is sometimes par for the course.
All Melanie wanted was to be an omega then an accidental walking into the wrong room while a pack is taking “care” of their Omega causes her to designate…and realize they are all scent matches. Do they respond like you think that would??? Do they treat her like the omega in her fantasies??? What about their omega??? Will he welcome her into the pack or will he want to destroy her?
Here are my thoughts…hate cliffhangers but I have never needed one more than I need with this one. As of today Mel and Sin are my favorites. I hope Cas and Kai choke. lol
Great first part to the story. I loved bubblegum pop from the knottinghill omegaverse. The story starts off there, and I am sure we will see more of it in part two. Good descriptive characters, which I equally loved and hated. Melanie thought she was a beta, but when she met her scent matches, she presented as an omega, and her world is tipped upside down, but dont expect a happy ending fairytale, she will have to fight hard for what she wants. It had me captivated from the start, and I desperately need book two. The story so far has been great getting to know the characters and setting the story along with some spicy scenes.
My emotions are still on a rollercoaster after reading Part 1
This book deserves all the chilies 🌶️ for having spice almost immediately. Even in the angsty scenes, the spice was top notch *french kiss* 💋
This meet-cute did NOT happen in the best way nor to the best people…or did it? The timing was absolutely horrible and the confusion just doubled once emotions simmered down.
I think everyone is confused on how to play their part and don’t know how to show their feelings properly.
Brandy Snap: Part One by Abby Hunter is the second in the Suck It Up Omegaverse series. We meet Melanie, a hard working Beta who needs to save her money so she can take care of her mother. She meets a pack that are her scent matches. I really, really want to pun(# Kai. He is such a mean person! And the sister! What a horrible person! Looking forward to the second part - there had better be major groveling involved!
This book is so good I loved all the twists and turns. but beware it is a dark romance it doesn't have a sweet end of book one.I got sucked in as soon as I started I couldn't stop until I finished it. I can't wait to see what happens next to Melanie and the guys.
Enjoyed Mel's story. I loved the pov of each character. Of course, there has to be an evil woman that makes you want to scream. Zania is horrid! I loved Kai, but my heart really broke for him, and all he had had to endure. I can't wait for part 2.
I just finished Part 1 and can’t wait for Part 2!! Bit of a cliffhanger and I’m invested to see where this goes. I like the Brandy nickname, feels like a pet name but with bite. Mel is my favourite character and I’m excited to see her get some claws!!
Some of my favorite things all together in one book! Omegaverse and why choose with a complicated group dynamic. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the characters grow in part 2, both individually and as a pack
The beginning of this for me was a struggle. Unsure what it was, but in the first few chapters, I almost stopped, but then it was like a switch flipped, and I couldn't put it down. High drama, high stacks, and major bullying, but an omega who in the end found her stones. I can't wait for the second one. I want Mel to not only make the pack grovel, but I want her to tear down the evil omegas, too. So hope book 2 doesn't disappoint as this looks like it is going to be an epic duet.
This book is so well written cause the emotions i felt and the times i screamed out of frustration tells you this author know what the hell she is doing. I got this book as an arc and decided to read book 1 of the Knottinghill Omegaverse Romance which is bubblegum pop. I will say Kai i would love to throat punch and that crazy since he isn’t real. The FMC Melanie i wanna see her blow her top and break bad on everyone! Who knows maybe in book 2 we shall see. This book ended on a cliff hanger an i am over hear pulling my hair out for book 2. So if you love Omegaverse this is your cup of tea. Oh And Abby hunter is a badass author i have bought all her currently released book in paperback.
I'm not quite sure how I feel after reading this book. I loved the story, but my god, I wanted to shake Melanie and tell her to grow a spine! the pack also don't have one redeeming quality in them at the moment, except for maybe Sin? I'm not sure about that one. I need to read book two to see how this all plays out. I need to see Melanie have the last laugh with Caspian's mother, too.
I feel so incredibly sad for Kai. and for the reviews hating on him if the roles were reversed all of the would be on the female omegas side. For him to always be second pick is so sad to see with Cam and the Mel. The "alphas" barley show any love or affection towards him besides sex to placate him and to shut him up. The "alphas" were so quick to throw him away for Mel and for them to fuck her in his nest is so fucked up I could have cried. This shows how the alphas have love and affection towards the female omegas but they couldn't do the same to him. I want Kai to leave this pack and find him a pack of feral alphas who would love and worship him but we all know how female authors HATE male omegas. They are ALWAYS second fiddle and the love is NEVER equal.
If you can't write about a male omega that is loved and appreciated/ or his an actual omega than don't write about them at all since these authors write about them so terribly. Omega verse is literally written for male omegas and they are ALWAYS hated and don't get pregnant.
NO ONE should waste their money and buy this disappointing book it has the same concept of all the other books with male omegas. :(

I fear I have hyped this book too much in my head again, so that the actual story disappointed me… I hope the author can forgive me, but this was just not my cup of tea concerning the whole bullying – which I was aware would be present and I really love a good bully-grovel story but combined with some other points, it became a really frustrating read, especially since until the end of part one there is no trace of possible MMC redemption on the horizon. Since this is a duet and this is only part one, I assign 3 stars (in hopes that part two will blow off my mind and turn everything around) otherwise my rating would 2 stars.
To the positive points: The characters are mostly differentiable and the MMCs all have their own way of thinking so there was no mistaking one for the other. The main antagonist of the story is really hateful and realistic in that high society b**ch kind of way. The FMC’s sister is also an egoistical b**ch, so we can sympathise with the FMC.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of points that took from my enjoyment though.
A good grovel-bully story only works with a strong FMC who doesn’t just take everything lying down and I’m sorry to say this, but we don’t have that here. The FMC which started out really promising considering her circumstances turns out to be rather pathetic. She is basically a masochistic nympho who enjoys being treated like trash. Don’t get me wrong: I do not shame a degradation kink or a good hate f**k, but this goes way beyond that. The FMC gets turned on by being (really) hated and treated poorly even outside of sexual situations, when it becomes quite clear that the MMCs are not just pretending to despise her. That is not healthy and turns the FMC into the ultimate doormat. All her short moments of fighting back feel abrupt and unnatural and the scene where she is being abused by the main antagonist (evil mother) while Kai is just watching? As much as I sympathise with Kai considering his past treatment by the Alphas’ families, Mel just forgiving him for his behaviour and becoming angry and sad on his behalf is just over the top and felt very unnatural as she isn’t even angry on her own behalf. Like it was just a tool to establish her as a “good person”. Same goes for the sick mother she is paying to be taken care of – feels like just another way to make her look like Mother Theresa considering there are no real interactions described with the mother (not even memories from the past). Spoiler: Even after all that when she agrees to pretend to be their girlfriend for the money, she still wants them. And I don’t understand why. There is basically nothing attractive about these men except maybe for their looks and scents. I know omegaverse is a lot about the biological urges and instincts but this is basically brainwashing where the FMC loses any kind of independence, pride, logical thought and survival instinct. She doesn’t even really try to fight it, which is the worst part.
Another point: The Omega MMC is an animal abuser! I quote: “Kai’s sick pleasure wound through the bond, lighting us up. But it was the same kind of pleasure he had when he found a baby bird outside his studio and was so fucked off with its incessant cheeping that he snapped its neck before getting on with his work.” This should definitively be mentioned as a trigger (especially that this is done by an MMC). I’m sorry, but that is a no-go for me. I can live with main characters killing other people (if they have deserved it) and maybe kill or hurt animals in self-defense or for survival reasons. However, killing an innocent animal because it annoyed them is something I neither find attractive nor can forgive in a main character.
I also don’t understand why the MMCs even love each other. Every interaction we read about them is all about jealousy, hurt feelings and promises that have been or will be broken. While I totally understand Kai’s jealousy and hurt feelings (even though it doesn’t excuse his behaviour towards the FMC since nothing of that is her fault) I don’t see what actually makes him loveable. Apparently, his character is twisted and he enjoys hurting others, yet, his Alphas call him their “light” and stuff… All in all, I don’t feel any chemistry between the MMCs and don’t understand what they love about each other. I don’t understand why Kai isn’t focusing his anger and pain towards his Alphas (especially Caspian) as they are the ones that are hurting him and who are not protecting him in any way. Doesn’t help that we only experience tense situations with them where one conflict after the other arises. We also get no real insight in their preferences or their lives outside of the pack and family drama. Even their jobs are only mentioned in passing and we never read about them working or meeting people apart from their family or the Alpha who probably is another antagonist of the story. And apart from biological sexual attraction there is also no reason for any of the main characters to actually like each other. They can’t even have a calm, rational conversation and they don’t get to know each other.
There are also many plot holes and things that don’t make sense: Spoiler:
We also have endless inner monologues that don’t further the story and break nearly every dialogue so that it is hard to follow the conversations. The inner monologues are usually quite repetitive and about feelings of jealousy, guilt etc. I guess I'm not clicking with the author's writing style so well. There are other people who surely enjoy it though.
In general, there is not much happening within book one and I’d say everything is very predictable.
Up to this point Sin is the most normal and likeable character to me, but his hot-cold-attitude is also kind of annoying and doesn’t help to resolve any of the drama. Caspian is just finger-pointing anger monster who doesn’t take any responsibility for his own actions and Kai is a catty b**ch who projects his anger etc. on Mel when he should actually try to solve the source of the problems with his Alphas. Actually, all the MMCs cannot decide what they want. Cas and Kai are fluctuating between hate and want so much it's giving me whiplash. Mel is just a slave of her new Omega instincts who can’t keep her self-respect for longer than a minute… Bottom line: At this point, all main characters need therapy one way or another.
I would be really happy if book two would blow my mind and would make up for all the bullying etc. in this book, but at the moment I feel like there won’t be any groveling and the FMC will just have to solve everything herself while forgiving the MMCs when they haven’t made any amends at all. Let’s hope I’m wrong because the world needs more good bully-and-grovel stories.
Either way, I would like to thank the author for allowing me to read this story in advance and review it. Sorry for complaining so much! I guess I just have very high demands when it comes to bully-and-grovel stories since there is always the danger of them sugarcoating toxic relationships. I appreciate the work and motivation of any author trying to provide readers with enjoyable stories, though. Your effort is noticed 😊
Brandy Snap Part 1 by Abby Hunter (also known as Abigail Hunter) is an omegaverse book that has a lot of smaller tropes in it. There is a potential reverse harem between Melanie, Sin, Capsian and Kai. There is a lot of miscommunication, misunderstanding and jealously throughout this book. There is also the microtrope of the guys are rich and Melanie is struggling to get by and also supporting her ailing mom with a terrible sister. There is a lot of SPICE in this book as well. The book opens up with Melanie working at a sex club for Omegas and Alphas where she cleans up after the people stay for their intimate moments. This club only allows Betas to work there and since a horrible accident Melanie has always believed she’s a Beta. Sin (Alpha), Capsian (Alpha) and Kai (Omega) are their own pack which is seen as a not respectful pack due to Kai being a male Omega. Sin and Capsian’s mothers have informed them they are required to find a female Omega ASAP or Sin’s little sister will be married off to a ruthless and abusive pack to maintain their “superior” image. Melanie ends up in the wrong place at the right time and walks in on the pack in a heat-induced moment at the sex club and is surprisingly invited to join. During this moment, Melanie starts experiencing what it is like being an Omega which should not be happening as she believes she’s a Beta. After this fun adventure, it is discussed that the pack thinks their mother sent her. They decided to go along and trick their mom into thinking they found a female Omega so that they get off their backs and leave the little sister alone. Kai is not thrilled by this idea even though there was some accidental bonding. The book ends with Melanie trying to figure out how to handle her feelings, her family responsibilities, the pack and all of their baggage in a cliffhanger. My favorite thing about this book is that the character Kai is not the typical male character seen in “pack” settings. He is a fashion designer and is often in jewelry and dresses. He wears makeup and everything else feminine. His Alphas love him for this and it’s a nice change of pace from typical male characters. My least favorite thing about this book is all of the jealousy. There was a warning for it at the beginning of the book so if jealously is something that really not your cup of tea I would skip this book. I just wish that Kai would have spoken up more instead of internalizing everything. However, I do recognize that it is part of his character due to everything else about being a male Omega and not Sin’s sister makes him have to push it all down for the sake of others. I rated this a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It was very spicy and I’m very interested in seeing what is in store for the next book. I am excited to see more of Melanie’s sass especially with Caspian’s mom. I thought the book was funny and I enjoyed the plot.
This is part one of a duet and the second book in this series. I hadn’t read the other book in the series, so this was my introduction to this universe. This is one of those omegaverses that makes me feel a lot and they aren’t always good thoughts. But that’s the beauty of it. The fact that it elicits such a strong emotion in me is a very good thing. I love an omegaverse with a late presenting omega that swears that they are a beta until the suddenly present in. the presence of their matches. And the angst of the pack being a complete bunch of jerks really got my blood boiling but also had me hooked and saying, “Let me read just one more chapter.” I really enjoyed this read and was hooked from the start. This is not a story to give you the warm fuzzies and I honestly felt my rage about to boil over when the FMC first meets the MMCs. But that’s what caught me and held me. I wanted to see how things played out.
My heart ached for Melanie. Her sister didn’t treat her well. She works at the nastiest job because it pays more money that she needs so that she can take care of her mom. And she is simply trying to do her job as the beta that she has always known herself to be, when a mistake leads her to the room of the Risler pack. She has no idea what is happening to her and a pack is there, being confusing as hell. Attracted but acting like jerks to her. She deserves so much better. I understand that life isn’t simple for the pack and Kai has severe insecurities as a male omega. But I was so angry at how he and Caspian act towards Melanie. Sin was the only one in the pack that I felt like was a good character (other than Melanie).
This is not the sweet, fluffy omegaverse that you often see. This one is dark and has so much hurt and trauma. There was so much spice, but there were times that the spice was not fun happy spice. This is only part one of the duet so there is more to come and I really want to see where this pack goes from here. It was a dark, emotional story that hit something inside me and was definitely worth the read.
This book sent feminism back 100 years and not even in a fun way. Writing was actually awful - how this has 4 stars on goodreads is mind boggling. Has to be paid reviews cause 0 chance normal people rate this higher than 3 stars (and that’s giving the benefit of the doubt). I think a lot of authors want to write angsty bullying books but wanna one-up the last one they read/wrote. Which results in this cry for help. I think if you enjoy this, maybe seek therapy? The level of vitriol leveled at Mel is paranormal. Like the universe hates her to a preternatural degree, to the point I think it’s a genuine flaw in the writing of the author in that the writer could not come up with any believable setbacks so she just makes Mel a walking martyr with no windup. Like it’s torture porn. The problems thrown at Mel blew any suspension of disbelief out of the water. And she just takes it. Whole time. She cries and whines but nothing changes. She just takes it, world hates her. It’s pathetic. Every character in this book is so unlikeable, there is no chance at redemption. The only thing forcing these people together is a rather bane and boring interpretation of omegaverse dynamics and that is IT. I do not believe for one moment that Kai, Sin, and Cass would be together if not their hormones. They’re a terrible throuple. Terrible people yea, but also they have 0 linking qualities and I could not tell you one defining fact about any of them. And then throw Mel into the mix and you’ve got the foundation to a relationship so toxic that Chernobyl is jealous. This book actually ruined my mood. It’s kind of crazy. Anyway
TLDR: don’t read it. Not worth time or energy. I’d give it 0 stars if I could but Goodreads operates antithetical to consumer values so 1 star it is.
I'm going to come right out and say it. I have mixed feelings about this book. I get why it's written like it is. I really do. But I have so many questions and thoughts about what's happening. As of right now, the only two characters I sort of like (or can at least tolerate) are Sin and Lily. And Lily gives me some off vibes. She's not even an MC either! Sin... he's the lesser evil of the 3 MMCs, and that's saying something since he's described as stoic. But at least he's not hot and cold. Like Mel, the FMC. I get she's "new". She doesn't know what she's doing or how to control her new self. But wanting the guys to basically ruin her, and then getting angry and storming off when they do exactly that and treating her like gum on their shoes is a bit much. She's back and forth constantly. Then you have Cas and his airplane full of baggage that I have so many questions about. I dont even know where to begin. And Kai??? Self-centered, entitled brat. Is this who he is, or did someone make him this way? It almost feels like he doesn't trust his pack. Which is crazy because their his pack.
Now, I bet you're wondering why I still gave this a 4 star even though I have mixed thoughts on this? Because it absolutely deserves it. This is a compelling story that will break you down only to build you back up (I hope at least). Yes, there's a lot of anger and hurt, but this book keeps bringing me back over and over. That's how you know you're reading something worthwhile. I WANT to know what happens to these characters. The author has set up a brilliant universe and keeps it intriguing enough to want more.
I can't wait to find out what happens in Part Two.
I enjoyed this book a lot but omg did i want to shake most of the characters. I think what I really liked about this book was that I was annoyed at all the main characters😭😭 that might be a first for me. As much as some of their actions bothered me i couldn't stop reading. They were written in a way that i didn't totally agree with what they said/did but I understood the logic behind their behavior.
I wanted to know more and I wanted to see what was gonna happen next. I finished this book within a couple of hours. It just sucked me in.
The characters all have really good chemistry and definitely have a strong pull towards each other. There was a lot going on and a lot of emotions swirling around that I feel like they couldn't really find time to be calm and actually enjoy each other's presence. Like it just seemed like there was a black cloud hanging over everyone.
Imma need these characters to get a backbone in the next book. That or imma have to go IN the book and handle a certain someone for them. I can't wait to read about them getting stronger and defend themselves. Show everyone that they not weak just cause they are omegas.
As much as I want the guys and Melanie together they have some groveling to do. Especially Kai like I'm all for a bratty possessive omega but this man took it to another level 😭. Honestly I love that for him bc I understand where he was coming from.
I love when a book frustrates me AND leaves me wanting more. I would do anything right now to get my hands on the next book. I just know once they are able to solve everything this pack is gonna be so good together and I can't wait.
Didn't know what to expect when I picked this up but I absolutely devoured it! I loved the one-sided tension between Melanie and Kai, plus the added tension of Caspian and Melanie too. I really felt for Melanie with how everything in her life was falling apart and unfolding at rapid speed for her. Her struggles actually made me feel sorry for her and I'm rooting for her to come out on top with how Sin's family has been towards her. The toxic nature of Kai, Sin and Caspian towards Melanie has me ready for the moment where Melanie makes me regret how they handled everything.
All the characters are well fleshed out, the pacing felt right with no parts dragging and it has left me wanting the next book now. Melanie is definitely hitting the deep end of being done with everything in her life and I'm so ready for her comeback into a strong, vindictive female! The love interests: Kai, the male omega, I love his dress sense and I know he is constantly on the defensive with Melanie but I can't wait for his mind to change about her and maybe his grovelling. Caspian is definitely the more borderline feral and angry alpha whose constantly switching between wanting to bite Melanie and equally hating her for the effect she has on him and for it hurting Kai. Sin is the last love interest being the lead alpha and is the rational one of the three, wanting to protect his sister at all costs and relies on control and logic in most situations.
I can easily recommend this book and really excited for the next book!
Thoughts: I absolutely loved this dark Omegaverse romance. I loved the bullying and the fact that all the main characters were a slave to the scent match and that they could not resist. Kai was fabulous, and I love that he wore whatever fashion he wanted even though it was beyond the norm. Kai’s jealousy and angst over possibly loosing his alphas to Melanie highlighted how difficult things have been from their family’s hatred and drama. I felt all those feelings he was going through, especially his attraction and tenderness for Melanie that Juxtaposed with how much he hated her. The evil mom in law was epic, she was the evil queen character personified. I couldn’t stand the other woman and that they would put up with all the family abuse to Kai just to keep her safe. Melanie was great and she needs to find her ever after in part 2 or I’ll cry. I NEED part 2 as soon as possible as this story has been so riveting.
🛑Please read all the author warnings as some themes and events in this book could be triggering. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really hate myself for how fast I read this. I received the book and within 4 hours, it was over. It took me a moment to get into the groove of the book but once I was in it, I WAS IN!
I honestly feel so awful and hurt on behalf of Mel. Her whole life was ripped to shreds in the matter of seconds and the tiny details followed behind in the span of a week or so. From being a beta maid for the Knottinghill Spa to essentially being used by her scent matches to get their families off their backs. I wanted to just hop into the story and give Mel a big hug and a big fluffy blanket to make it seem like it’s going to be alright.
I want to know more and see how the relationships form between Mel, Sin, Kai and Caspian. Right now, it’s very much the guys bullying Mel into helping them and her trying to adjust to her new reality as an omega. I want to see more in depth explanations on some of the behaviors being displayed, some more of the backstory on Kai and how this all will end up in part two.
I really enjoyed reading this and I just want to get my little grubby paws on part 2 already. I want my questions answered PLEASE
