The final promise must be kept. A kingdom's fate hangs in the balance.
Claire has reclaimed her memories and the throne, but her greatest challenge awaits. With Kane escaped to the impenetrable fortress of Shadowkeep, she must fulfill the unbreakable promise that has defined her journey—no matter the cost. Armed with both sprite and mage magic, she pursues the ancient sorcerer to his stronghold, determined to end his reign of terror once and for all.
But victory demands sacrifice. As Claire faces her final confrontation with the enemy who has haunted Dragonwall, the kingdom rebuilds around her. New alliances are forged, unlikely romances bloom, and the next generation begins to emerge. From Dallin's dangerous undercover mission to the unprecedented unions that will reshape the realm, change is sweeping across Dragonwall. And with change comes hope—along with choices that will determine not just Claire's fate, but the future of everyone she loves.
Dallin the Violet is the seventh and final book in the Dragonwall Series, where every promise finds its resolution, every heart finds its home, and a kingdom discovers that sometimes the greatest victories come from knowing when to let go.
Melissa Mitchell is a fantasy romance author best known for her seven-book Dragonwall series.
She fell in love with fantasy at a young age after discovering The Dragonriders of Pern, and she’s been chasing dragons, magic, and epic love stories ever since. Her books often feature beloved tropes like hidden royalty, slow-burn romance, and the undeniable tension of only one bed.
When she’s not writing, Melissa holds a PhD in physics and works as an optical engineer. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, a husky, and four very spoiled bunnies. She also enjoys baking cookies, bullet journaling, and figure skating—usually while thinking about her next book.
Okay, I am actually sitting here with the biggest smile on my face and a tiny bit of a tear in my eye because I finally finished the Dragonwall Saga after 6 years.
I'm pretty sure it was way back in 2020 but I distinctly remember how a chapter would release every Friday (Aussie time) and it would be the highlight of my week.
And honestly, endings are so hard to stick yet this is chef's kiss. It was the most perfect, satisfying conclusion I could have asked for. I'm still genuinely so sad that it's over. It feels like the end of an era.
The Dragonwall Saga has made a permanent home in my heart and my 'all time favs' shelf forever.
Most importantly, thank you Melissa for making my Fridays brighter for years and thank you for creating Cyrus LOL.
Ive sat on this story for aome time to try to word my thoughts. Overall, I really enjoyed the series. It felt like the world was well thought out and well established in terms of culture and history, giving a good basis for ‘the chosen one’ concept. I think that this final book wasnt super necessary, but we meeded to round out the shields stories/have one for each of them. I generally like fated mates and all that, but this wasnt my favourite iteration of the trope. The way everyone paired off so cleanly was kinda eh and the way that our main pair had some delicious tension that just kind of evaporated the moment the word mate came out. The development was heading in a good spot, and then it was like oh no were okay now cause mate. The tension about it was better displayed with saffra then with the claire. And the word mate was said too much. But if thats my only picking point, thats fine. Great story
Spoilers I’m honestly conflicted about this last book. On one hand, I’m a sucker for extended epilogues and a solid HEA for everyone, and I did enjoy how everything wrapped up. On the other hand… this book didn’t really feel necessary. It was basically a few chapters to finish the fight with Kane, padded out with a random side plot so Dallin could get his obligatory sliver of attention.
Side note: can we talk about the titles? Every book is named after a shield, yet somehow those characters barely get any POV time in their own books. Make it make sense.
Also, the epilogues weren't really epilogues. They were a continuation of the story just with the chapter titled 'epilogue', but an epilogue is something that "concludes the story, offering closure, summarizing events, or revealing the future fates of characters." If the story continues on from the last chapters stopping point it's not an epilogue, it's just a new chapter.
And a lot of the writing was repetitive. Every mating was "there's no going back once we do this", followed by a list of hyperboles, leading to the melding of mines and "insert name?" "I'm here!" "We're here together". Literally 7 times. Chapters felt copied and pasted with names rotated out. We didn't need to see each bondings if they were all going to be the same. It could be stated later in the true epilogue.
The last chapter/ true epilogue was really fantastically done though. Showing their daughter as a teenager and her possible future along with a glimpse of her brothers was exciting. That was a really well written chapter and refreshing compared to the rest of the book.
In the end, I’m glad the story got a clean, happy conclusion, but it didn’t quite justify either the length of this final installment or the series as a whole despite my adoration of lovey dovey endings and epilogues. If reaching the end of a series feels more like relief than fulfillment, then somewhere along the way, it lost what made it worth reading in the first place.
Probably the only book in the series I was looking forward to finishing. I’ve only ever read Melissa’s books on Wattpad and I didn’t pay much attention to the quality of the grammar or even spelling because I always assumed that these go fixed when they went to get published, but having read this in a physical book that I paid money for, I was disappointed to find at least 3 spelling and grammar errors within the first 70 pages. It was also difficult to tell when something was meant to be quote or a letter or a scene or something when it was all in the same style, font, and size.
This book feels sloppy and rushed and tbh almost not needed. The book basically concluded in the first three chapters and after that it was basically an epilogue. It feels like the author didn’t plan the series out well enough and by the seventh book, just ran out of material.
Every character in this book all of a sudden sounded and spoken in the exact same way - even the ancient king tree. There was too much modern speak from characters which shouldn’t have spoken like that. Before if I read the book, I’d be able to distinguish more which character was speaking but this time it all felt the same.
Also, I don’t want the character saying “which roughly translates to”.
Wow. What an adventure. This series is definitely one of my favorites. The fact that each book you go to know each character a bit more that you fell in love with every single one of them. The character growth was phenomenal. Each person had their own story and path within the story itself. I love that each book was a gradual climb to the next step. There was a reason for every single thing that happened and by the end you knew exactly why. I laughed and i cried and i was holding my breath in some parts. I truly felt like these were my friends and i was on the ride with them. This last book was perfect. Instead of dragging out a book to get to the climax and end you got quickly to the adventure and fight. It went swiftly but the battle is self was lonely anticipated. I love that most of this book was spending the time wrapping a bow on each character and their life. For the most part we got to a happy ending for everyone important, it was not short. I can’t wait to see if there is another adventure coming our way seeing some of our favorites popping in the new story. I don’t know what i’ll do with myself until then!
absolutely loved the last epilogue!!! especially the dragon form presented in it! AHHHHHHHHH
AMAzing writing i wont spend my time writing an long ass review cuz i already did that on wattpad but i adore this series so much and as someone who finished the 3 first books within like 1-2 weeks i HIGHLY recommend. There are a few moments here and there that are questionable but when i say i barely felt them i mean it. the general plot? amazin. the characters? consistent, loveable, absolutely loveable. the ending? pretty dang sad yet heartfelt. If i had to point out something negative about this i would have to mention reyrs ending. I felt it was a big convenient and sadly not realistic compared to his feelings and the lore...ig? idk how to phrase it with no spoilers.
BUT DEFF RECOMMEND. this series is deadass 10 times better than the acotar series (althought i loved the characters and the second book in that series)
I can’t believe this is the end 😭 i’ve loved this series since it was in Wattpad and what a joy to see how it’s grown 💗
This whole book was a huge epilogue which I loved, since there were so many characters I wanted to know more about post-Kane. I feel like there could be more to Kane and Claire’s final battle though, it felt too fast to me. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this. What a satisfying end to the series!
I love reading about the next generation too. Gosh, Claire & Talon’s children feel like my children as well. They’ve all grown so much 😭
I hope there will be more books about the future generation of Dragonwall. I would be interested to learn more about the first Drengr female & sprite hybrid. Love them all so much.

The entire Dragonwall series is amazing, unfortunately for me I feel like this book doesn't hold a candle to all the others in this series. It's not that the book is even bad, I loved the syndicate incorporation and would of loved to see more of that through out the book. It just felt like the last half was tying up loose ends and nothing more. The last 30% was just epilogue after epilogue and while I was happy to see the other characters find their endings I wasn't happy with the format. I'd still recommend this series but this ending for it left a little to be desired.
I'm not usually this kind of reader. Or rather I'm not usually a fan of these kinds of books.
I saw Talon the black recommended 32 hours ago. I haven't slept since. But I have just closed on Dallin. And, wow. What a journey. I have cried big fat tears. I have laughed honestly. I have been proud of characters that felt like friends, witnessed brotherhood bloom and love blossom, all whilst fighting for good.
Is this book for everyone? No. But it is, it should be.
I am old enough to have read many many many books in my life. This one will forever stay with me, and forever be a recommendation.
I absolutely loved this series. I waited until I read all 7 before leaving a rating on any to get a full view. I knew after the first one I was going to love it, but I had no idea just how much. This is one of those series that you wish you were able to restart again and again and reread not knowing what happens. I loved the writing style, balance, storytelling, and development in these books. I’m glad that book 7 wrapped very characters story up and allowed the reader to have a look into how their lives played out.
I really enjoyed this series so much! I loved that she told what happened after the big fight and how they pick up the pieces.
Some spoilers: I feel like everything ended too perfect. It felt like the author was trying to make up random side stories to make the puzzle fit perfectly. On one hand it felt like too much, but on the other hand I loved it. :)
Ill say it again, why is nobody talking about this series?! Its so good!

This has been a roller coaster ride. I am actually leaving a review as the whole series. I enjoyed the development of the characters as each book led to the next, with the final book mostly as a wrap up. I will confess, some parts of the series did drag a little, definitely a slow burn, but overall a wonderful read. I will miss Dragonwall and hope the author continues the series with the next generation.
This series, each book featuring a different Drengr MMC & MFC (mage, human, otherworld). The author maintains a seamless main story while weaving in stories for seven dragon shifters whose origins are original and enticing. Mix in dislike/hate to lovers, mildly steamy romance. It's definitely a 5 star 🌟 series. Loved it, couldn't out it down.
The perfect bow on a beautiful present. Everything was wrapped up nicely and the many characters were all given a nice end. My only complaint is that this book mostly reads like a super long epilogue, but with so many characters and storylines, I don’t know if anything else would have worked.
I loved everyone in this series, Claire was great and talon. This is a must read for lovers of dragons and sprites. The world created was so good and everyone of the Shields were amazing.
I wonder if we will get the story of Talon and Claire's children. Goid job and thanks for the entertainment.
When I started Talon the Black, I did not realize this was a 7 book series. I probably wouldn't have started it if I had, so I'm SO glad I didn't know, because I loved this whole story. The characters are wonderful and after thousands of pages, feel like family members. I loved the fourteen epilogues to give closure to all of the parts of the story!
This is the last in the series of Dragonwall, This features the youngest shield, Dallin.
Claire has been transported with Kane to Shadowkeep. But, before the portal was closed, Feowen, came with her. Now she must fulfill her promise, she has to kill Kane or the empire of Dragonwall will fall.
Oh my god this series was absolutely amazing! If I could give it 10 stars I would. It will forever be one of my top favorites that I suggest to everyone. All the epilogues at the end were the best! I’m so glad everyone got their happy endings. I especially loved how the story continued through all 7 books but still had little focuses on each pair!
This was a wonderful series. It was like saying goodbye to a dear friend when I finished it. All the characters were fleshed out well. Lots of tension throughout the series as well as love, family and friendship. Each character had their life wrapped up in a neat bow at the end. Not sure if that was entirely realistic but by then I didn't care as I had loved everyone's journey.
This was such a great series! Everything was wrapped up with a neat little bow. I appreciate the final epilogues and if there's ever a series on the next generation I would definitely read it!
I started these books because they kept showing up on my facebook page. I was in a book slump it was going on three weeks. This was the best set of books I have read in a while. Thanks for sharing this story. I will be looking into more of your books.
This was an incredible storyline! So many characters and so many relationships! The way that it is written gives every character a chance to be the main character throughout! It is just so uniquely written! Bravo!!
If you enjoying dragons and magic, love that crosses realms and the good guys winning! I highly recommend this series I literally could not put it down I devoured these books in a little over a week!
This series is well written and keeps you entertained through all of there 7 book books. Can hardly wait for the next book in this series. Have innumerable people about this series!
We get an epic battle, a few surprises. And then all the happy you can possibly take. My face hurts from smiling and happy tears. Now I am off to read a dark romance. Great ending to this long series.
This is the final book and does end it on a good one. It almost over too fast and not soon enough. I wonder if there'll be a spin off or a book for one special character from this book.
All books of the series are great. The author should consider a review (some typo errors and sentence constructions) but minor considering the entirety of the history. Spent sweet days reading this and would love a sequel!
