If you’ve saved consistently, live by a strong set of values, and want to make sure you’re maximizing your wealth through proactive planning, this book is for you. This book offers a clear roadmap, packed with real-life examples and actionable advice, that will help you confidently steward your wealth through retirement.
Midwestern Millionaire is an excellent resource for two types of readers: those seeking a solid overview of retirement planning and the hands-on, do-it-yourself investor. Before reading this book, I considered myself part of the latter group.
Joe Schmitz makes a compelling case that most of us are better off working with professionals in key areas of retirement planning. The cost of expert advice often pales in comparison to the tax savings and financial security they can help secure. In fact, unless you're a CPA, tax planning alone is reason enough to consult an expert.
Schmitz warns against relying on one-size-fits-all strategies, emphasizing that maximizing retirement success requires a tailored approach. As he puts it, “You should never rely on cookie-cutter advice when it comes to your life savings” (p. 84). He skillfully illustrates the interplay between different strategies, shedding light on their limitations and potential risks.
Beyond investment strategies, Midwestern Millionaire provides a clear and concise overview of Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D, as well as an insightful discussion on why a trust may not be the right choice for everyone.
Whether you're just beginning to plan for retirement or reconsidering a DIY approach, this book offers valuable insights that can help you make more informed decisions.
This book was written by my financial planner who has saved us from paying more than we needed to in taxes during retirement and has maximized our investments. It is a quick, easy to read, easy to understand book to help you consider many options to maximize your hard earned savings. The content allows you to consider if you are overpaying on your taxes, understand what "buckets" of saving are needed to maximize your investments, social security strategies, and Medicare premium strategies. All those things that come at you when you reach your mid sixties and beyond.
The book also contains information about estate planning...what you need or do not need. The author talks about a full comprehensive plan for your hard earned money. Basically if you are retired or considering retirement, this book is work the read. If you worked hard, saved and spent frugally, you are more than likely a "Mid-Western" Millionaire!
