Rating: 2.75/5 Penguins (rounded up)
Quick Reasons: true to life, realistic; steamy romance; adult dynamics; complex, flawed characters; not the book for me; lots of tell, little show; lots of repetition; difficult characters to "connect" with; slow storytelling

HUGE thanks to Katie Night for the ARC copy of this title! My review of this book is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by this gesture.

This just was not the read for me, Penguins. Katie Night wove a terrific story of redeeming relationships and love above all struggles. There was steam, there was doubt, there were flawed and human characters. The read was quick and it was fairly easy to fall into the story. The motivations were realistic and the timing was believable. There wasn't anything wrong, per se, with the story itself.

BUT. There was a lot of awkward, stilted writing. There were a lot of cut-off sentences and a lot of weird grammatical quirks that made reading this feel more like I was reading a series of texts. The characters were hard to connect with, and the story felt slow despite the pace and timing. While the story was about the redemption of a relationship, the reconnection of souls, and the rediscovery of...uh...each other, I just couldn't get INTO this story, and that's on me. I think a lot of it was likely just that I could not make that connection...and I rely on that connection a LOT when reading. So don't hold that against this book!

While this wasn't the read for me, that doesn't mean that it's not the read for any of you, Penguins. The characters are believable, the steam is pretty high up there, and the redemption arc is well-done. If you like fast-paced romance and empty-nester parent reconnection journeys, definitely check this one out!

What do two people do that have built their lives around their kids and their jobs after the kids leave?

Empty nests will test a marriage. Ann and Greyson are no different. They have grown apart and both have insecurities and doubts, but neither want to be the first to put the words out there.

Communication and intimacy are key. As long as you keep an open mind and an open line of communication you can fix anything.

I don’t read a lot of contemporary romance that isn’t romcom, but Katie Night’s books are always a good time! We follow The Edwards who have lost their spark after so many years of marriage and two kids off to college. Their therapist recommends they reconnect by taking a BDSM preferences test and they end up exploring new kinks based on their results. There was lots of spice and sweet moments between the characters. It’s fun reading about their antics and maybe even getting some ideas lol

ARC read!! 🌶️ Thank you Katie Night for allowing me to be one of the first to read your debut novel! It was a great read and I was so happy to finally have characters to read about that are older and actually experiencing real life struggles in marriage! My husband and I have been married for nearly 18 years and were married right out of high school much like Anna and Grayson. I was able to connect to them and their struggles from the beginning and really enjoyed reading about them coming together and working through those issues both in the bedroom and out! 🌶️

Excuse me ma’am? This is a book I didn’t know I needed.

I am just about at that stage where the kids will be out the door. So this will essentially be the next step in my marriage/ life. So to say I empathize and feel this book is an understatement.

Grayson and Anna are a couple I
( resonate) with, especially Anna. It is so easy to loose yourself in kids, in work and just have nothing left at the end of the day. To not feel confidence when you look in the mirror.

Reading their story through and the “unconventional” way they pull it together was inspiring. Not me sitting here with a note pad.

I would absolutely recommend this to a friend, I would recommend this to a newly married couple, a couple in the trenches of parenthood, a couple with an empty nest. Pretty much anyone and everyone should read this.

Favourite quote-

“You don’t need to be jealous,” he murmurs, his voice like velvet, low and full of wicked amusement. I scoff, bristling. Was I that obvious? “I’m not jealous,” I snap. His lips ghost over the shell of my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. “Sweet girl…” His voice is slow, deliberate, dripping with promise. “Your lipstick is still painted around my cock”

“Your beauty brings me to my knees, just as it did when we met, on our wedding day, and every day in between.”

Anna and Greyson, now empty nesters, realize their marriage is in trouble. After a heated argument, they seek help from an unconventional therapist who suggests they rekindle their intimacy. However, with 20 years of history, they must determine if reigniting their passion can save their relationship or if deeper issues remain unresolved.

I devoured this book in one sitting. It's a short and spicy book that will leave you wanting more. I love that this book/series deals with real marital issues that normal people face, but it gives hope as these couples work to find their way back to one another. This book had a great storyline/plot, as well as PLENTY of spice as the couple explores BDSM.

Now the mouth on Mr. Edwards was *chef's kiss*. I just loved how obsessed with and possessive over Anna he was. And Anna's bratty little tendencies were such a good touch! Highly recommend this book and this series. Cannot wait for the 3rd book!

Anna and Greyson are a married couple who have lost their connection. They were each others first loves and their kids are now adults and have moved out leaving them to see how bad their marriage has really gotten. Before it’s too late they go to a therapist who has them reconnect by finding each other again through sex. How will it turn out? Will they still find romance or is it gone for good? This book was amazing for me. It had just the right amount of spice and I really liked the relatable storyline. So many marriages end up struggling over a period of time and couples often lose their identity as a couple. I think this book helps remind you of what’s important in relationships down to the basics- communication and romance. Highly recommend and I can’t wait to read what’s next!! 😊

The Edwards are empty nesters and they are feeling it. Long silences, not having the kids to worry about as much. It's all…. Suffocating.

They get advice to go to an unorthodox counselor and that's when things get spicy for the Edwards.

Anna is like a lot of moms. She maybe lost herself along the way and needs a chance to find herself again.

Greyson is … beside a dirty filthy man in the best ways… afraid he's lost the chance to make their lives right again. And it's a beautiful story of reigniting love. But add a little spice (or maybe a lot).

Anna and Greyson Edwards are adjusting to being empty nesters. They have spent the majority of their relationship raising their two children and have not been connecting well as partners and lovers. Add a dash of assumption and miscommunication, and things explode...

Grayson and Anna aren't ready to throw in the towel, and after receiving the info for a therapist from their friends, the couple decide to make an appointment. This therapist has an unorthodox approach to marriage counseling. She encourages her patients to take surveys about their sexual likes and dislikes, and she feels that bonding in the bedroom and exploring with each other, couples can improve their communication and work through their problems.

The Edwards rediscover their passion for each other while exploring their intimate desires, and they find they truly are meant to be.

I loved this novella from the very start. Katie Night weaves intimacy and emotion together in The Edwards in a way that was both heartbreakingly beautiful and sensually satisfying. I could understand where both characters were coming from, and I was rooting for their success.

Wow, this book makes you feel all the emotions!

After finding themselves as empty nesters, Anna and Greyson find that the lack of communication and intimacy in their relationship could be the end of them.

Anna is definitely a representation of a lot of mums in her feelings, who lose their way after having kids, and need that second chance to find themselves and their confidence again.

Greyson, who has a deliciously filthy mouth and is possessive AF, will do anything to save his marriage.

Entre the unorthodox marriage counsellor..

I loved this book. It was such an easy read. The writing flows nicely, and it's definitely hard to put down.

This was a powerful story about a marriage drifting apart from one another.
I love Katie's writing a lot as it feels so accurate to real life and how people interact and react to one another in marriages.

Anna and Greyson got married and became parents young. And as their kids leave the house, they find themselves drifting apart. To the point that they aren't really even speaking to one another.
When Anna decides to confront Greyson, things blow-up and their couple friends come to their rescue with a recommendation.

A therapist that has some uncoventional methods but had saved their marriage.

What comes next was a hell of a lot of fun to read. Enjoy!!!😁

Another emotional, beautiful, hopeful, uplifting novel by Katie Night. I LOVE the marriage in trouble trope and Katie did it so perfectly here. Her writing is perfection.

Both the FMC and the MMC were so relatable. I absolutely LOVED the love that they still have for each other, especially Greyson. He is so freaking HOT but lord the way he loves Anna is just unparalleled.

And once they start exploring the BDSM world, HOLY HELL. I was melting. Freaking Greyson just dove right in and I was here for it.

I love Anna & Greyson’s story! So relatable- feeling distant from your partner after kids - being mom & dad and not necessarily wife & husband. In the Second Vows Series this marriage therapist knows her stuff! I love how they reconnected and tried new things! This was a spicy, exciting and emotional read!

This was such a quick, blazing read. You very quickly hit the core of the issue, within the first 10-15%, they're basically a couple that has lost their way with life just happening, and their marriage being deprioritized. They hit a really low point and then realize that they do want to work at their marriage - and the rest of this book is them reigniting their connection.

I loved it. It was a fast paced read, emotional, sultry, sexy and just loved seeing them rebuild their connection and explore new horizons.

I really enjoyed this book, I think a lot of married couple can relate to the challenges that Anna and Greyson went through. Especially when you have children that have graduated and moved out, you both wonder who you are now.

Anna and Greyson stopped communicating and stopped focusing on their relationship and themselves as individuals. The passion had been lost and they were just living lives parallel to one another. All it takes is for Anna to meet with a divorce lawyer to make it all real for her and then him when she confronts him.

Whew, the SPICE!!! The way the two started to communicate and then explore different things they might like in the bedroom was on fire and electric. The two of them will never question if the other wants or desires them again with the way they lust over each other. They begin to listen to what the other person wants and have an open communication about everything. Dr. Parker really knows what she is doing to help couples get back on track.

One word….. HOT HOT HOT!
Greyson and Anna Edwards are high school sweethearts. Both knowing instantly that they were meant to be together. Fast forward to a new realization that they are empty nesters, and not quite sure how to function as a couple. They are faced with a brutal fact they things aren’t the same, in the bedroom and out. With accusations thrown, Anna retreats to her bathroom and calls her best friend- panic setting in once the bestie arrives, Greyson rushes in once he hears about the panic attack and goes into protective mode, SWOOON!
Taking a moment to talk, they both find out there is no one else and all they want is each other! His “sweet girl” is the only woman for him.
In comes Dr. Blair Parker- with her out of the box thinking, Grey and Anna are hopeful that they can get that spark back that has been missing for years!
Greyson can call me sweet girl ANY day of the week! The way he commands her, ugh I’m jealous!

This is a spicy, beautiful, relatable story. Anna will resonate with a lot of readers. It’s easy to put everything you have into your children and career and have very little left at the end of the day. To lose yourself. To not feel sexy. When they become empty nesters, Anna and Greyson struggle to reconnect with each other until an unconventional marriage counselor enters their lives. BDSM to heal, to empower, and to reignite that spark that has been dormant for too long. I loved this book so much! It was emotional and the spicy scenes were delicious!

I really hope we get more in this series because seeing such relatable topics and issues is a breath of fresh air! I definitely recommend!

After Anna & Greyson raised their two children and they moved out, they found themselves empty nesters. Somewhere along the way, they lost the passionate love they used to feel for each other. They had put most of their efforts into raising their kids and ignoring their own needs as a couple. After going to a therapist they are urged to reconnect in the bedroom to help save their marriage. And what happens super spicy and smokin' hot. I loved this story so much. Loved that the couple found their way back to each other. Can't wait to read more from this author.

As a mom whose only child will be going off to college in a month, I really connected with Anna and Greyson’s story. Ever since I really got back into reading and became obsessed with smut a couple years ago, my 20 year marriage has never been stronger. Intimacy really does open up communication in all areas of your relationship. The insecurities of these two characters was so well written and relatable. The spicy scenes were so good. Greyson had me swooning from the beginning with his “sweet girl” and perfect mix of dominance and vulnerability. I really enjoyed watching them fall in love all over again.

The Edwards is another read my husband and I shared. It is an introspective yet spicy ride from start to finish that highlights the relationship of a struggling empty nester couple.

The intrigue of the story lies in whether their unorthodox therapist can help them stay together or if Mrs. Edwards will call her divorce lawyer and tell him to go ahead with proceedings.

We were hooked on Anna and Greyson’s story. The nuances of their relationship and their individual needs, both in the bedroom and outside it, kept us going back to devour more.

I’d actually give this book a 2.75 stars.

I really liked the premise of the book. I loved how essentially the plot was about a struggling couple trying to rekindle their love.

However there was just so many mistakes i couldn’t look past. First off the timeline and math of the couple just doesn’t add up. The couple was high school sweetheart together for 20 years married for 15 years. And according to the book they didn’t have their kids until after they were married. Yet their kids are 20 and-8 years old. So that doesn’t add up at all.

Another thing i realized is the kids in the beginning of the book were named Henry and Sasha, but later were named Henry and Becca. Unless they randomly had a third kid they didn’t talk about.

And this one isn’t to bad, but in order to fix their marriage an unorthodox therapist suggested they take a kink test and follow through with trying out those kinks. They figured out they were dominant and submissive and that they both liked bondage and other stuff like that, but didn’t do any research before going to a store. Sure they had looked up a store online to see what they had, but they never actually looked up like what bondage is used for what and how to safely use it and never talked about a safe word or anything like that.

However all of that aside the actual plot of the book was good. I felt the pacing was pretty good. And I did love that they actually tried what the unorthodox therapist suggested instead of just giving up and leaving each other.

Spice - 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

Review - I am so beyond excited to have been able to be one of the first few people to read Katies debut novel! It was a quick read that will leave you panting for more.

One of my favorite things about this book was that I was deeply connected with the FMC Anna. Her story really resonated with me as a wife and mother. All the insecurities I feel with my body when I look in the mirror right down to the stretchmarks for birthing my own children. My husband and I are also on the verge of being empty nesters ourselves and I totally got where Anna was coming from when she was struggling with trying to figure out who she was as a person.

I really loved that Anna and Greyson took the advice of their friends and went to therapy to work out their issues only to have it done in such an unorthodox kind of way. The heat and spice that comes from this is off the charts! It will leave you fanning yourself and saying "Yes, sir."

One thing I would have loved to see though is them exploring the BDSM world a bit more and learning their hard and soft limits instead of jumping straight in. I understand they are childhood sweethearts and have been married for years but they are learning and discovering such new things about themselves.

All in all, such a fantastic read and I enjoyed the ride. Definitely snag this up on release day.

First I need to start by saying how incredibly proud I am of this author and that it was an honor to be able to read her very first book! You got this babe! I’m here cheering you on every step of the way bestie ♥️

🌶️🌶️🌶️

Why I love this book ⬇️⬇️

Katie Night wrote the struggles of marriage so real and raw. It’s not fantasized. It had me going through so many emotions because I can relate to the FMC. After having children you begin to lose yourself a little and when you lose yourself you start questioning why to person you love is even with you. Then your thoughts go darker.

Anna and Greyson struggled after their children left home and became empty nesters. Anna was focusing a lot on her career and doubting herself in the mirror. Grey was in the mindset his wife was cheating and didn’t love him anymore.

Neither communicated with the other until one fight blew up in their face and their friends jumped in to recommend an unconventional therapist.

This book has a HEA. And you will fall in love with Greyson and how he treats Anna.

I can not wait to read the next book this author releases.

First of all I want to thank this beautiful author for writing this amazing book! This is her debut novel and it’s amazing! I have found that in most books I’ve read that have smut or lovey dovey scenes in them are just that and never shows the rough end of things but this book does! From the beginning it shows that marriage isn’t sunshine and rainbows, it shows all the rough parts of marriage. It does end on a happy ending though but I love that it’s so real! I found myself so captivated in their story and how real everything about them was! I feel so connected to Anna as well because after having 2 kids I don’t look at my body the same! Grey is my new book husband too! He’s so possessive and obsessed with Anna 🤤🤤 this book is everything for it to be a short novel! Kudos to this wonderful author and I’m so excited to read all her books! 💜
