At first, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this story because of some of the tropes involved. However, I ended up absolutely loving it! What I appreciated most was that it wasn't just a romance, there was a real conflict and a compelling storyline outside of the love story itself.
Allie's dating attempts had me laughing more than once, and when the plot reached its climax, I was completely stressed out in the best way possible. I couldn't stop reading because I needed to know what was going to happen next. There was so much action that I was instantly hooked!
I was also worried that Allie's dog would feel more like a burden throughout the story since he seemed to play such a significant role. Thankfully, that wasn't the case at all. I really liked how the author incorporated him into the story. He played an important part while still simply being a dog, just like any other normal dog would be. By the end, I had grown quite attached to him myself!
Overall, this book was nothing like I expected it to be, and it pleasantly surprised me. This was my first book by Katana Collins, but it definitely won't be my last. I'll certainly be reading more of her books in the future!

This one was SO FUN! I realized something...I am into the spy/espionage type romcoms. I enjoyed the tropes, and the action. It's so refreshing to read an action packed romance! Thank you #HambrightPR for the digital copy. I hope to read more of this series by #KatanaCollins

I was provided an ARC of this book via the author and Literally Your PR, all opinions are my own.
This was a really fun rom-com about an aspiring investigative journalist and a former Navy Seal turned matchmaker. Allie is a food critic for a local newspaper, but her dream is to be an investigative journalist. She hasn't hit her big break yet, but while writing her latest food column she spots an interesting situation that might just make for a great pitch to her editor. Enter Thatcher, a retired Navy Seal who has started a covert matchmaking company to raise his son after tragedy struck his family. Two of his special forces buddies help him run his company, and they also help him on a secret non-matchmaking mission on the side.
Allie hires Thatcher to find her soul mate, and she plans to write the best piece of journalism she can about dating and matchmaking she possibly can without breaking her NDA. The only problem in she and Thatcher seem to have more chemistry than any of the dates he sets her up on. As Allie and Thatcher get to know each other better, she uncovers his side mission and that his special forces days aren't quite over. While she is writing a piece on his matchmaking, she may be onto something much bigger and much more dangerous.
You do have to suspend your disbelief a few times for the zany things Allie does and some of the situations our couple are put into at the end. They get into some unrealistic situations, which make give the book plenty of humorous moments, which makes this an entertaining read. This has a big of a romantic suspense element on top of the humor.
The epilogue with Maple the rescue dog was heart wrenching and beautiful. That chapter alone gets 5 stars! Biscuit was such a huge part of the book, but he really stole my heart during this scene.

Ex-special forces as matchmakers? Seemed rather unlikely, but also seemed like the perfect material for a rom-com. I just happened to be in the market for some laughs. It was pretty entertaining! Had me cracking up!
Parts of it made me question whether Thatcher was ready to move on, as he thought about his late wife quite a bit. In hindsight, I guess that's a natural thing to do, especially since she was the reason for his mission of vengeance.
“Life’s more fun with a bit of chaos" (Ch 14)
Allie was amusing. She had all this bravado, but her clumsiness was charming. The chemistry and banter between Thatcher and Allie was palpable.
Some of it was a little cliché, and there were moments I just wanted to shout, "Confess! Now is the time for confessions!" 🤣 Of course, it doesn't happen when it should, and you know what that inevitably leads to... sigh, but it wasn’t so bad as there were things that trumped it.
".... I’m trying to find you a Prince Charming who gets that, who wants you exactly as you are. No fairy godmothers or transformations required.” (Ch 9)
It was a very sweet and enjoyable read with lots of fun, quirky moments. Especially loved Duke and his enthusiasm. He was so adorable! And then there was the Epilogue, omgee, so sweet and touching, made me tear up a little.

I LOVED this quick read with a unique premise! I was hooked from the start!
Allie Larson is a journalist working as a food critic, who dreams of becoming an investigative journalist….but she needs to prove herself by finding a story that’s worth publishing. While racking her brain with ideas, she overhears an unusual situation unfolding beside here at a cafe - a man is seemingly coaching a woman on a first date via an earpiece. She feels it in her gut - this could be her big break! She decides then and there to become a client to learn more.
Meanwhile, Thatcher Bryant, matchmaker extraordinaire, is simply building this business using skills he has obtained from his time in special forces, all while also working to avenge the death of his wife. His friends from the force, Griffin and Hunter are part of the mission. Another part of the equation? Thatcher’s 5 y/o son, Duke.
The only problem is, Thatcher and Allie feel an undeniable magnetic pull towards each other. He’s never thought of opening up to someone again, and she doesn’t want to compromise her chance at furthering her career. Can they afford to give in to what they’re feeling?
So much good banter in this book - I love a quirky FMC and a broody MMC - such a good equation! Add in a sweet little boy and a rescue dog and 💋…perfection.

If you like the movies "Hitch" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days", you will like this book!! It's the perfect mix of both!
I would honestly say I would classify this book more as romantic suspense than your typical rom-com, but that only made the plot more intriguing!
Duke was a perfect side character and I absolutely adored Biscuit the dog. Maple Pancake also has my heart, even though we only met her for one chapter!
I read this book in preparation of meeting Katana on the Love Lit Cruise and I can't wait to chat about it with her. I also will definitely be reading Griffin's story whenever it comes out!!

- Thatcher & Allie: Thatcher completely stole my heart. Seeing his sensitive side and intense protective nature towards Allie was everything. Learning about the tragic death of his wife added so much emotional depth to his character.
- The Yearning: The romantic tension in this book is elite. The yearning between Thatcher and Allie was so beautifully written. It kept me turning pages late into the night.
- Perfect Spice: The spice level was absolutely spot on. It was just enough to keep things hot without ever pulling away from the core plot.
- Unexpected Thrills: I did not expect the gripping side plot involving the Russians! The investigation into how his wife died kept me on the absolute edge of my seat.

This book completely surprised me in the best way! I went in expecting a cute romance, but I got so much more. The concept felt fresh and different, and from the very first chapter, I couldn’t stop reading.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Allie and Thatcher. Their banter was witty, their slow-building connection felt natural, and every interaction had me smiling. Thatcher was the perfect protective, broody hero, while Allie’s determination and curiosity made her such a fun and relatable female lead.
One of my favorite parts was how effortlessly the romance blended with the mystery and investigative storyline. It kept me engaged throughout, and I genuinely wanted to know how everything would unfold. Duke completely stole my heart, and the rescue dog added so much warmth to the story.
This was one of those books that was easy to binge in a day because every chapter left me wanting more. It had the perfect mix of humor, emotion, suspense, and swoon-worthy moments.

I enjoyed the book and the story. It felt a little quick, the story progressed faster than I anticipated. It was written beautifully, the words descriptive and poetic.
Allie wants to be an investigative journalist but she’s currently stuck as a food critic. When she witnesses an interesting interaction between a man and a woman on their first date, she realizes the woman is being coached from afar by a male matchmaker and Allie is determined to investigate more. She confronts the matchmaker after the interaction and he reacts by holding a gun on her. A little out of left field and now Allie is even more determined to figure out this enigma of a man.
Thatcher is a single dad, ex-navy seal turned matchmaker to honor his late wife’s dream. He meets Allie in an alleyway when she introduces herself and decides she wants to hire him.
While Allie is digging into who and what Thatcher is, he is trying to set her up with her soulmate. Except that Allie isn’t in it for the soulmate - just the story. She’s not a very good date, she’s clumsy, brash, and not very graceful. While Thatcher is trying to train her to date and figure out who she should be set up with, his jealousies get in the way and he realizes he has feelings for his client. Allie loves the witty banter back and forth between her and Thatcher and can’t seem to get him off her mind.
I read this book as an ARC, and this is my honest review. There were some editing issues with the copy I received (misnaming a character, adding a title where it didn’t belong, etc). I enjoyed the story, but it was a bit predictable and it felt like the deep connections between the characters wasn’t as developed as it could have been. Overall, it’s a fun read, and I’d be interested in continuing the series!

This book literally had me laughing out loud. The banter between Thatcher and Allie was on point! They were the perfect Grumpy x Sunshine trope.
After losing his wife and being left with a young son to care for Thatcher had written off love. Then Allie bounced into his life. I loved that this stern ex-military man was a matchmaker. He isn't who you would expect for a matchmaker and he delivers some of his thoughts in a dry way that made me laugh.
I really loved that rescues were a huge part of this book. Allie's dog is a rescue and she would do anything for her dog. I have a huge place in my heart for rescues, especially rescued dogs. Without giving away any spoilers the epilogue made my heart so happy.

Very entertaining
Such an entertaining story!
I have enjoyed several works by this creative author and this book is another. The chemistry between Allie and Thatcher was palpable from the beginning, even if neither one of them admitted it.
This has all the things that keep a reader engaged:
Interesting characters
Well moving storyline
Drama and danger
Adorable kid and dog
Sassy and smart banter

I have enjoyed several works by this creative author and this book is another. The chemistry between Allie and Thatcher was palpable from the beginning, even if neither one of them admitted it.

I’ve only read one other book by Katana Collins and that one I rated 5 stars too. So that’s telling you something! And also that I should read more of her books! I really enjoyed this one. It was a mix of my two favorite genres, romance, (with a little romcom in there, but not too much of it) & suspense (which was just enough to keep me flipping those pages). Any book that has a happily ever after AND a dog in there too is always worth the read in my opinion! Bonus is a strong main female character! Love! Double bonus was being able to have the opportunity to do an Instagram live and “meet” the author after reading this one!

This was such a fun read that had the perfect pace, full of action, secrets, suspense & great characters. This book literally had me laughing out loud.
Allie Larsen is a food critic whose dream is to become an investigative reporter. While on an assignment she notices a woman is being coached while on a date and she is determined to investigate more.
Thatcher Bryant is an ex military, single dad turned matchmaker who uses his military skills along with his two ex-special forces buddies Griffin and Hunter to help their clients meet their cute or get their money back.
Allie determined to break into investigative journalism, decides to enlist the services of Thatcher and this is where the real fun begins.
Allie is funny, quirky, smart, beautiful, outspoken but a dating disaster.
This book has everything that you need and you will not be disappointed.
The Epilogue was top tier and is definitely not one to be skipped. You'll be falling more in love with Duke, Biscuit and Maple Pancake.

This was a cute, lighthearted rom-com and a really enjoyable read overall.
It gave me strong early-2000s rom-com vibes—like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Hitch, with a little bit of The Ugly Truth mixed in—which made it especially fun. It has that cozy, feel-good rom-com energy with funny moments, jealousy, and just enough light suspense woven into the military storyline to keep things interesting.
There’s definitely instant attraction between the characters, but because he’s trying to set her up on other dates, it ends up reading more like a slow burn, which I really liked. That dynamic made the chemistry more fun, especially with the jealousy and tension layered in.
I also liked that there was some emotional depth, particularly around the MMC and his grief. Even though the story stays mostly light and playful, those moments gave it some heart. It doesn’t go super deep emotionally, but it adds enough to balance out the humor and romance.
The pacing is fast, which made it a quick and easy read. There were a few moments that felt a little corny to me—though for this type of rom-com, it kind of worked with the overall vibe and didn’t take me out of the story too much.
There’s also a twist near the end that I genuinely wasn’t expecting. It felt a little random or awkward at first, but not necessarily in a bad way—more like it caught me off guard and made me pause for a second.
Spice-wise, there’s only one open-door spicy scene, so the romance feels more focused on the build-up, banter, and chemistry than the spice itself.
Overall, this was a fun, cozy, fast-paced rom-com with humor, chemistry, jealousy, a little emotional depth, and a surprise twist at the end. I had a really good time reading it—and I’m definitely interested in continuing with the next book in the series.

reading a book about an ex military single dad who runs a matchmaking business and a sunshiny passionate and awfully clumsy reporter was not on my to do list but was everything I didn’t know I needed. This was the grumpy x sunshine at max satisfaction level because she’s so bubbly and the complete opposite of him yet they fit together so well. And this book is real on the meet cutes, there truly is no better way to meet your future husband than to see him in a cafe, follow him a couple streets only to be caught and held at gunpoint by said future husband. This book is nothing other than absolutely iconic, and is one of the best romcoms I’ve read in a while. She pays for his matchmaking service and he’s setting her up on dates and giving her advice all while he broods from a corner and glares at all the “prospects”. And the thing that has me melting was the amount of times he was like “I don’t know why she doesn’t have a boyfriend because she’s so perfect”, this man loves her clumsiness, her straightforwardness and everything about her that may put another guy off. That is true devotion right there and if I didn’t in true love, I would have at that very moment. He’s also a single dad which makes even more swoon worthy but the ways he’s so protective has me falling hard. Addie was the sweetest character and I loved her probably because she reminded me a little too much of myself. I love how she accepted his trauma and was willing to wait because she was the sweetest person (that I differ from her quite a lot). This book is a slightly slower burn but that fuck it moment makes it totally worth it, and I loved the tension and flirty banter leading up to it. The plot didn’t have anything super surprising but was just fun, lighthearted (80% of the time) and full of chemistry. I give this a 5/5

This was such a cute read. Imagine sitting in your favorite coffee shop enjoying your usual beverage of choice, and you see a tall, muscular, and handsome gentleman at the table next to you. However, you hear him talking or rather instructing someone but he’s alone and no phone to his ear. That’s when you see it, a hidden ear piece in his ear and a couple seated across the shop and a woman doing everything he says. 🤔🫣👀
That’s exactly what happened to Allie. Curiosity piqued, thinking there’s more to this large strong man. What would any want to be journalist do?? Yup, you guessed it followed him out the coffee shop to see what she could find out about this mysteriously handsome man.
Who’s this mysterious man you ask?? None other than Thatcher Bryant, a former Special Forces Military Man, matchmaker extraordinaire!! Running a matchmaking business that he and a couple of his brothers in arms run like a mission.
Allie asks him to provide her matchmaking services to meet her “soulmate”, while trying to discover what’s all behind this man of mystery. What she didn’t expect was to find herself in the middle of a dangerous Russian revenge plot. 😳😱
She went on multiple “fake” matchmaking dates with men she had no interest in, and the handsome, grumpy Thatcher in her ear being her knight in shining armor, coaching her. Ok cool 👀👀 while on assignment at a restaurant she notices a couple on a date. What really catches her eye though, is the handsome man coaching the female on her date…strange…and now Allie is intrigued and forgetting all about the food she’s supposed to be writing about.
Allie decides to dig a little deeper and confronts the man…she quickly realises that might have been a bad idea since he pulls a pew pew on her in the alley 🙃
Thatcher is an ex navy seal and single dad who is now branching out into match making after the passing of his wife. He’s using his skills to match people but like most military men who leave the service, he’s not really done until he says so. While he is a match maker, he’s also working on cases covertly with his navy seal buddies.
Allie is immediately intrigued…sending a story behind the ex navy seal turned match maker, so despite their horrendous first encounter, she convinces him to be her match maker. But she’s not at all interested in finding love, just uncovering what the real story is. Unfortunately, fate has other plans and both Thatcher and Allie find themselves falling for each other.
Allie gets a little too investigative for her own good and ends up seeing some stuff she shouldn’t have…putting herself in danger and causing Thatcher to lean into his alpha protective mode. Honestly I don’t think he ever stopped being in that mode, it was just more subdued.
All in all the book was good. Wasn’t great, but it was a fun quick read. There were some parts that were wildly unbelievable and yes…I know it’s fiction but sometimes we can take it a little too far out of the realm of actuality and this happened towards the end. For me it took me out of the book a bit and caused me to not love the end. But that’s just me. It may not be an issue for you guys! So if you love a crazy meet cute with a broody ex navy seal match maker and a clumsy food journalist whose trying to crack some cases, this is the book for you 🩷

I went into Meet Cute or Your Money Back hoping for a fun rom-com, and what I found was a story that reminded me of Hitch in the best possible way.
At the center of the story are Allie and Thatcher, two characters whose chemistry completely steals the show.
Allie is a food critic with dreams of becoming an investigative journalist. When the opportunity arises to write a story involving the world of dating and matchmaking, she hires Thatcher’s company to help her find her soulmate. On paper, it seems like the perfect setup for an article.
The problem?
The more time she spends with Thatcher, the harder it becomes to ignore the fact that the strongest connection she has isn’t with any of the carefully selected dates he’s arranged.
It’s with him.
Thatcher was such a fun MMC to read. A retired Navy SEAL turned matchmaker wasn’t something I knew I needed, but it worked so well. Beneath the confident exterior is a man trying to build a life for himself and his son after tragedy changed everything.
What started as a lighthearted matchmaking story slowly became something more as secrets surfaced and Allie began uncovering parts of Thatcher’s life that suggested his special forces days might not be completely behind him.
I loved the balance between romance, humor, mystery, and emotional depth. The slow burn felt worth the wait, and every interaction between Allie and Thatcher made me root for them more.
This was my first book by Katana Collins, but it definitely won’t be my last.

Allie needs to come up with an interesting investigative article if she wants to prove her boss that she can write more than food reviews, so looking for inspiration, she goes to her usual café, but she never imagined the article would be so easy to find. At the café, she finds a man guiding a woman through a date and discovers that he’s an ex-SEAL turned matchmaker, and it seems like the perfect article, so she requests his services as a matchmaker. The problem is, the more she discovers about Thatcher in all her failed dates, the dangerous it becomes for the both of them, especially as she unravels what really happened to his wife all those years ago. Can she publish the article? And more importantly, would she want to if that means hurting Thatcher?
I think it’s the first time in my life that I read a rom-com with suspense (not romantic suspense).
This book was hilarious and cute, so I wasn’t expecting for the suspense aspect to be so well done, and yet, it surprised me. Just like the rom-com part of this book was magical and felt exactly like watching a good rom-com (the meet-cute, the moments between the MMCs, the feelings developing against their better judgment, the drama, etc), the suspense part was equally well crafted (disturbing clues about a past incident, preparing unknowingly to defense oneself and others, adrenaline spike at the last 30% of the book, a good motive for all of it, etc).
The writing in this book was great and made for a quick pace that kept me hooked and reading for hours on end. I can’t wait to read more by this author, especially if she writes Griffin’s or Hunter’s stories.

I picked this up expecting a cute rom-com and somehow ended up getting a matchmaking military operation, rescue dogs, a swoony widower, investigative journalism, and enough banter to keep me grinning through the entire book.
Thatcher might officially be my newest book boyfriend. He’s a former Navy SEAL turned professional matchmaker, which is already a hilarious concept, but watching the man who prides himself on finding love for everyone else completely lose control when it comes to Allie Larsen was even better. For someone who runs dating missions with military precision, he was surprisingly hopeless when his own heart got involved.
And then there’s Allie. She’s funny, stubborn, ambitious, and just chaotic enough to throw Thatcher’s perfectly organized world into disarray. Their dynamic was pure gold from the start. The back-and-forth teasing felt natural, the chemistry was undeniable, and every interaction had me rooting for them.
What I loved most was that the romance wasn’t built on endless misunderstandings. Instead, it focused on two people carrying their own baggage while trying to figure out whether they could trust what was growing between them. Thatcher’s relationship with his son added a really sweet emotional layer, and the rescue dogs practically stole every scene they appeared in.
The story also surprised me by weaving in a suspense element connected to Allie’s investigation. It added stakes without taking away from the romance and kept the plot moving when it could have easily settled into standard rom-com territory.
If you enjoy grumpy heroes, sunshine heroines, forced proximity, adorable animals, and the delightful irony of a matchmaker falling for his own client, this one is absolutely worth adding to your TBR.

This book was such a fun surprise – I could not put it down! I love the concept of former Navy Seals creating a match making business after retiring from the military. Thatcher Bryant is the leader along with his business partners Griffin and Hunter.
Allie Larsen is a newspaper food critic who longs to be an investigative reporter. She’s at her favorite coffee shop when she observes Thatcher coaching a women on a first date through a hidden earpiece. She immediately is intrigued and thinks this could be a good story to pitch her editor. She follows Thatcher and gets more than she bargained for – he doesn’t trust people and doesn’t like being confronted. Allie ends up pretending to need his matchmaking services and hopes to be able to write a story to propel her career forward. Of course, Thatcher doesn’t know that part.
The story has humorous moments created by Allie on her dates and moments with her dog Biscuit. There are sweet moments of Thatcher being a great dad to his young son Duke. As time goes by, Allie and Thatcher can’t deny their explosive chemistry – they are so HOT together. What makes the story such a page turner is the danger that Allie inadvertently brings into Thatcher’s life as her investigation inquiries unleash dangerous criminals from Thatcher’s past. There are several chapters in this book where I literally stopped breathing due to the suspense!
Thank goodness there is a happy ending to the story, and I always love having humor and suspense along the way. I look forward to reading the next book in the series about Griffin and hopefully Hunter gets his own story too.

I picked this up expecting a fun romcom. What I got was an action packed, suspense-filled romance that completely caught me off guard. Safe to say this one exceeded every expectation I had.
Let’s talk about Allie first because this woman had absolutely no sense of self preservation and I mean that as both a compliment and a complaint. She was fearless, witty, sharp, relentless, and somehow always managed to charge headfirst into danger. It was like watching a kid do the exact thing you told them not to do, except the stakes were life and death. She frustrated me at times, but I couldn’t help loving her.
Then there’s Thatcher. A man with walls built sky high, only for Allie to slowly chip away at them until she found a place in both his heart and his home. Their chemistry was everything. The banter was effortless, the slow burn was worth every second, and I loved how they constantly challenged each other without ever giving up.
The first half was a little slow for me, but the second half? I absolutely devoured it. Once the suspense kicked in, I couldn’t put it down. The action, the twists, the danger, everything had me completely hooked. And can we please appreciate Biscuit? That fluffy little dog was so much more than comic relief and quickly became one of my favorite characters. Add in the found family element and watching both Allie and Thatcher build something beautiful out of misunderstandings and differences, and I was sold.
If you’re looking for a romance with hilarious banter, heart racing suspense, lovable side characters, found family, and an action packed second half that refuses to let you go, I cannot recommend this enough.

This rom-com was such a fun ride! Allie is a food critic with big dreams of becoming an investigative journalist. While out on assignment, she stumbles onto something... unusual, a matchmaking service run by a former Navy SEAL. Naturally, she signs up, hoping it might lead to a killer story and maybe even her soulmate. What she doesn’t expect? That the real spark might be with the matchmaker himself.
Thatcher is the kind of romance hero that feels both over-the-top and endearing. He’s ex-military, uses tactical strategies to pair people up, and is raising his son while trying to leave his old life behind, sort of. His chemistry with Allie jumps off the page, and I loved watching their relationship unfold, even when things got a little chaotic.
Yes, you’ll have to suspend disbelief here and there (some of the situations they find themselves in are straight-up bonkers), but it just adds to the charm. It’s rom-com with a dash of romantic suspense and a whole lot of heart.
Also, can we talk about the epilogue? Maple the rescue dog broke me. That scene with Biscuit was so unexpectedly emotional and sweet. Honestly, that chapter alone is worth the read.

This was probably one of the most unique and bizarre premises I’ve ever read and honestly, I was 100% sat for this!
Thatcher is an ex-special forces soldier and single dad to five-year-old Duke, and now runs a matchmaking business with two of his former teammates where they orchestrate elaborate, adorable meet-cutes for ordinary people using surveillance skills, tactical planning and military precision. Which is either wildly romantic or deeply concerning depending on how long you think about it.
Naturally, Thatcher ends up having his own unexpected meet cute with investigative journalist Allie, who hires him to help her find her soulmate while very much hiding her own agenda. Absolute disaster pairing. The chemistry was immediate and the chaos even faster. 😂😬
The banter in this book was so sharp and effortless, and underneath all the humour was a genuinely beautiful love story built on stubbornness, frustration, vulnerability and slowly letting someone in. Thatcher and Allie constantly exasperate each other but in that delicious way where you know they’re completely doomed for each other from the start.
I also loved how layered the story felt. One minute it’s quirky and hilarious, the next it turns serious and dangerous, and somehow it still circles back into something warm, heartfelt and joyful without feeling messy or overdone.
Such a fun, clever and genuinely heartfelt romance.

Meet Cute or Your Money Back was such a cute romcom. I loved the reverse twist of Thatcher, a former Navy SEAL, being the one running a matchmaking service who falls for the client. He and Allie were such a perfect match.
After his wife died, leaving him as a single parent with an infant son to raise, Thatcher founded his matchmaking service. He and his partners use their military training to run their clients' dates like they are running secret ops missions. I loved it! Allie enters his life like a hurricane, and for the first time in years, Thatcher doesn't quite know what to do with big feelings for a woman that he never expected to feel again as a widower.
Allie, meanwhile, is a newspaper food critic with dreams of being an investigative reporter. She gets her shot at writing an investigative piece on the matchmaking service, trying to write about her dating experiences without breaking her NDA. It's soon evident that Allie and Thatcher have far better chemistry than any of the guys she's set up with. And as the attraction between them grows, Allie stumbles upon something in her digging that ends up putting both of their lives in danger.
This book had it all. It was funny, heartfelt, a sizzling slow burn, adorable rescue dogs, a cute kid, a sexy, grumpy military vet, and a clumsy, spirited heroine. I really enjoyed this story and hope that there's more to come for Thatcher's buddies!

Thank you to Hambright PR for a copy of this book. This was such a cute fun read, that I ended up reading in one sitting. 4.5 ⭐️
I loved the grumpy x sunshine vibes of this book - and I’m always a sucker for a single dad.
I think the author did a fabulous job handling the MMC as having a wife who died. Sometimes in books the MMC is clearly not over her and compares the FMC to her constantly. I really appreciated that Thatcher acknowledged that he still loved his wife, but that he could move on with someone else. I even love it more that he didn’t turn into a playboy after she died.
Allie was a trip. I loved her so much. She was quirky without being cartoon like. Allie was herself and not ashamed of it. One of my favorite tropes is when the love interest falls for the kid as well as the parent. This was done so well / Duke was included in the story ans acted appropriately for a 6 year old.. he wasn’t babied down but also didn’t act like a 13 year old.
The whole Thatcher setting her up on dates and then getting jealous was hilarious and made me swoon a bit. He was jealous but never toxic which again I appreciated.
The whole side story or bringing his wife’s murderer to Justice was a bit wild but made for some action in the story. Was how everything turned out realistic, no. But was it a good time to read? Yes - the perfect rom com story.

Allie Larsen is stuck. She has the degrees, the intelligence and the drive to be an investigative reporter but is stuck reviewing restaurants. Her editor says she’ll give her one shot at a big story however, she can’t figure out what that big story is. While she sips on a drink at a favorite bar of hers and people watches, she sees a couple on a date. She notices the girl seems to be saying and doing everything the handsome guy next to her is saying, almost like she is being coached.. Allie is intrigued. When he leaves, she follows him out and down an alley, only to walk right into the face of his pistol, shocking her to say the least. He says he’s a “hands-on matchmaker”, but between his military vibe and the gun in his hand, she thinks that seems unlikely. So she signs up for his services, asking him to help her find her soulmate. In reality, she thinks the matchmaker himself is the story she’s been searching for and she’s going to learn everything she can about this mysterious man.
This book had a really original idea. A retired military man who runs a matchmaking business is already unique but when you add the in drama of both of their secret “missions”, it brings it to a whole different level of exciting. Thatcher had it bad from the get go, which I found hilarious because she was so awkward with other people but for some reason they really clicked and she was super confident around him. Thatcher had it bad from the get go, which I found hilarious because she was so awkward with other people but for some reason they really clicked and she was super confident around him. The fact that she was so sweet and protective of his son brought a found family effect that was solidified through their HEA. Between the banter, the romance, the comedy and the drama, I was highly entertained!
