Historical romance author Samantha Grace discovered the appeal of a great love story when she was just a young girl, thanks to Disney's Robin Hood. She didn't care that Robin Hood and Maid Marian were cartoon animals. It was her first happily-ever-after experience and she didn't want the warm fuzzies to end. Now Samantha enjoys creating her own happy-endings for characters that spring from her imagination. Publisher's Weekly describes her stories as "fresh and romantic" with subtle humor and charm. Samantha describes romance writing as the best job ever.

Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. - Benjamin Franklin
Helena and her four sisters lived just above poverty outside London. Then her father, a worthless gambler, gave Helena away to Laird Prestwick to pay his debt. The Scottish lord wedded Helena, making her her healthy, wealthy, and wise. With the laird’s death, Helena became a young widow with financial independence. She leaves the comforts of Scotland to search for her family in London. By day, she is a demure member of the ton. By night, she searches Whitechapel for her eldest sister, intending to rescue the entire family. Instead, she rescues a drunken Lord Thorne from thugs. Helene delivers Thorne to his residence, never again expecting to see him. Alas, fate brings them together in an unexpected place. After realizing Helena is the “white angel” who saved him, he questions her about her Whitechapel visits. Touched that she is searching for “a beloved sister of a servant”, Thorne hatches a plan for Helena to launch his sister back in society after a broken engagement. In turn, he offers to use his “rogue” reputation to search the brothels.
IN THE BED OF A ROGUE is Book 2 in Grace’s Rival Rogues series. It picks up after Thorne’s own broken engagement – the reason he was drowning his sorrows in a disreputable tavern. His family’s bad luck leads society to think the offspring are as mad as their father. Instead, their father suffered from PTSD following combat duty in the British Army. Helena helps to melt Thorne’s hardened heart while paving the way for Eve’s reintroduction to the ton. Although they share a few passionate kisses, Thorne and Helena do not get into bed – a plot point I appreciate from Grace. She allows them to fall in love through mutual admiration. Grace also delivers several atypical scenes, both heartwarming and humorous, that add her unique touch to Regency Romance.
I received a print copy from Sourcebooks for an honest review.
It's been a while since I've read any historical romance. I gave up on them for a while because every heroine I came across irritated me to no end. It was like every author went out of their way to make them stubborn as a mule and TSTL.
I didn't know what to expect when I requested In Bed With A Rogue, but I was sure that I was going to have the same issue with the heroine as I usually do. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a heroine who wasn't TSTL, and I was overjoyed when the author put her in several situations when it would have been easy for Helena to act stupidly. And then she used her head and communicated with her friends! She was very independent and intelligent and while she didn't let Sebastian run roughshod over her, she also didn't act stubborn just for the sake of it.
Sebastian has to be one of my all-time favorite heroes. He is a very sweet man who cares very deeply for his family and isn't afraid to show it. He has a wicked sense of humor and I loved hearing about his past antics. He was the absolute perfect hero to match with Helena.
The absolute best thing about this book was the communication between the two characters. They discussed their feelings and their fears. It made their love more believable and real for me.
The only problem I have is that the book's synopsis makes Sebastian sound like a scoundrel who uses Helena's secret to get her in bed with him, and that may be off-putting to some people.
Definitely a book I would recommend for people who love historical romance.
This one gets an extra star for the first line "Sometimes a gentleman needed a place where no one knew his name." Also, Samantha Grace seems to write characters and plots just different enough earn that extra star anyway.
A heartwarming, yet sexy historical romance! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:
Baron Sebastian Thorne’s family has been immersed in scandal with his fiancée jilting him for his best friend and his sister’s fiancé running off and leaving her behind. Tired of his life being fodder for the gossip sheets, Thorne is determined to restore his family’s reputation. Still, one night, leaving an out-of-the-way bar, roaring drunk, after drowning his sorrows in drink, he loses his money to footpads who leave him nearly unconscious and badly beaten outside the pub. He barely remembers the angelic lady who came to his rescue and has no idea of her identity, but he can’t forget the perfume she was wearing.
Lady Helena Prestwick and her four sisters lived in virtual poverty due to their father’s gambling habit. But she never expected to be given to the winner of one of his games, Lord Prestwick. Forced to leave her young sisters behind, she soon found herself married to the lord, forced to do everything he demanded. But, with his death, she is now financially independent and has a reputation for being all that is proper. But society does not know the secrets she keeps hidden. Desperate to see her sisters again, especially after hearing that the oldest of her sisters is working in a brothel, Helena and her man servant travel into some of the worst areas searching for them. With her penchant for helping the less fortunate, she is soon mysteriously dubbed ‘the angel’.
When Helena’s perfume gives her away during a chance meeting, Thorne makes it his mission to discover why she is skulking about in such dangerous areas. Once he discovers her secret, he makes her a deal – he will find her sisters if she will sponsor his sister for the Season, using her connections.
Helena’s treatment at the hands of her father and then her husband has left Helena distrustful of men. But, already friendly with Thorne’s sister, Helena readily agrees. However, the more she sees of Thorne, the more she falls under his roguish spell, even though she had planned to never marry or become involved with a man again. Could he possibly be different from the men she has known so far, or is she setting herself up for heartache?
A heartwarming tale, IN BED WITH A ROGUE, the second book in author Samantha Grace’s RIVAL ROGUES series, is a humorous, yet sensual, historical romance that will keep you glued to the pages. The chemistry between Thorne and Helena is explosive. I like that there was no deception between Thorne and Helena as they were completely honest with each other. Thorne’s love for his sister also endeared him to me. While the differences in Thorne and Helena’s social status would seem to be a drawback as far as their future together romantically, it works well for their investigation since Helena can fit in better than Thorne and gain access to information that is more difficult for him to obtain.
The secondary characters added even more warmth and depth to the story. It was interesting to see how each of Helena’s sisters turned out after her influence was stripped from them and the sacrifices that some had to make, especially the oldest of her sisters, Lavinia. I would love to read Lavinia’s story and see her get her own happy ending.
Packed with wit, warmth, mystery, plot twists, sensuality, romance and love, this story is a true delight. Since reading my very first Samantha Grace novel, I have been a fan and I always look forward to seeing what she will come up with next. Treat yourself to a copy of IN BED WITH A ROGUE. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did!
Most of the time when someone has a secret, it ends up being a rather silly secret. Or still a good secret, but nothing major. Helena is different, she has a real secret. A secret that would make her an outcast. The ton is cruel yes, but yes her secret is not good for that time.
Yes this is book 2 but it reads well as a stand alone. Sebastian was jilted in book 1. Now the ton wonders what's wrong with him. As his father was mad, and his sister left at the altar too. But he proves to be more than the dashing rogue here.
Like I said, Helena has a secret, more than one actually. And while dealing with that secret she meets Sebastian who starts to fall for her. While she holds back, she does not want a new husband.
I liked discovering what secrets she held and wondering if they would be all over town or not. And I enjoyed seeing her and Sebastian together.
This was one of my 'try a new to me author' grabs and again, I got lucky with an engaging, passionate and well written story that was more than I hope for. I did manage to get a sequel that probably would have been even better if I'd gotten it in the order of the series. Oh well, now I have another one to go back for because trust me, the references to the first story makes me think that it was a delicious scream.
This story opens with Sebastian, Lord Thorne, drowning his sorrows over being the jilted party in a scandalous runaway romance involving his fiancee and his former best friend. His family did not need any new scandal to ostracize it more and in fact, that was the sole reason he was set on marrying in the first place. His father was thought to be mad because he heard voices and spoke to imaginary people even though it was just the fact that a military campaign in Ireland and its atrocities broke him and his sister was jilted at the altar so she is ruined because people are convinced that there was something wrong with her to cause her groom to run. Society loves its scandals and his family has provided them with plenty. Unfortunately, his luck continues toward the bad. He stumbles out of the seedy pub in Whitechapel and he encounters thieves. He is robbed, beaten and left for dead, but that is when his luck changes because he is saved by an angel. Not a real angel, but a mystery woman who rescues him and leaves him at his home. His befuddled, pain-ridden state doesn't allow him to figure out who she was until much later. But when he does, he proposes a scheme that will benefit both of them and it doesn't hurt that his plan gives him more time to entice his angel to his bed.
Helena, the newly widowed Lady Prestwick, is finally able to leave her husband's Scotland manor where he has been keeping her tucked away and return to London. She left London many years before as a frightened, uneducated, low class girl and returns as a wealthy, titled, finished lady. No one must know her origins, but it is precisely her origins that bring her back. Before the public's eye, she is just another lady enjoying London upper society and the Season, but in secret, she is hunting down her missing sisters who she had to leave behind with their worthless father when Lord Prestwick bought her in a card game. Helena is determined to find them all and take them back to Scotland with her where she can give them a good life. She has a lead on the oldest of the younger girls and it leads her to hunt for her sister in the brothels of the East End with her faithful steward going where she can't. The hunt keeps coming up empty and she despairs, but then the man she rescued from the gutter, the infamous rogue, Lord Thorne, enters the fray. Helena has sworn off men after the damage her father and husband did to her, but the wily, handsome Sebastian is a strong temptation and it doesn't hurt that they can enter into an agreement to help each other. Proximity to Sebastian shows her that all men are not the same, but her fears will not allow her to agree to more than a dalliance which is all a rogue like Sebastian would want too, right?
When I jumped into this one, I figured out quickly that it was a continuation of what had come before and I accepted that since it was my own fault for picking up the book out of order. It took me some time to get oriented, but in the meantime, the story line hooked me right away. There was a lot going on in this one that wasn't just about the main characters. It was a longer story as a result, but not boring. Sebastian's sister got a side story, there was a reunion with the main characters from the previous story, and then the line with Helena and her sisters too.
Sebastian was a rascal of sorts, but there was no real harm in him. His life dealt him a tough hand and he was in a bit of a funk, but the arrival of Helena perked him right up. I enjoyed watching Helena's presence in his life change him and cause him to really look hard at his own life. He still was a fun, spontaneous and passionate man, but she tempered him to want something lasting for once.
Speaking of a tough hand, Helena and her sisters were the ones that really had it tough. As her backstory was unveiled, her reticence, fears, and even some of her leaping to conclusions made a lot of sense. Now not to say, that all of her hang-ups were fine. I felt a bit sorry for Sebastian the way she totally judged him wrongly at first and even well into their friendship. She tended to do that with men in general as evidenced by her leap at St. Ambrose as a villain. She was totally the bossy oldest sister too and it was interesting to watch as she interacted with her sisters to see her realize that they had grown up too and she wasn't needed to mother all of them anymore. I will admit that her ongoing refusal to acknowledge her and Sebastian's feelings and give them a chance in the latter fourth of the book did have me skimming a bit because I got tired of the denial, but for the most part I had a good time with these two lovers.
Putting it all together, this was light on the history, but strong on the story and romance. The characters were flawed, but ones that were not hard to root for and like. And it was also a nice story packed full of things that made it so much more than just a romance. Historical Romance lovers who enjoy some spice should try this one.
My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this one in exchange for my honest review thoughts.
It's time to get down and dirty! It seems the Rogues of the Ton are out to play and Samantha Grace is sharing their stories with us. In, In Bed with A Rogue Ms Grace, returns us to her Rival Rogues Series with a bang! Okay maybe not the right word to use.. or maybe it is *grins*
In Bed with a Rogue is really a tale of living for yourself and not worrying about what others think of you. Except of course when you live in a society that feeds on gossip, resents when people try to do things their own way and then almost reveres them when they succeed.
Helena, Lady Prescott lives a secret life. She walks a fine line of the oh so proper widow. No dalliances for her.. She is determined to live an exemplary life of course she has an ulterior motive, she has a secret to hide. When Baron Sebastian Thorne discovers it, she makes a deal with the devil in order to keep her secret safe. Of course the sparks that fly when the two are together have nothing to do with their deal.
Baron Sebastian Thorne was jilted at the altar and is getting tired of living with the gossip. He was only getting married in the first place, to dispel the gossip surrounding his sister.. He needs the stability of the ton, he needs for his sister to be allowed to live the life she deserves and the only way that will happen is if he can become once again the oh so proper Baron Sebastian Thorne. When he meets Helena, Lady Prescott he wants her. She is perfect but seemingly not on the market. Instead she offers to help him find the perfect bride and to take his sister under her wing.. Next best thing I suppose.
Hello Rock, meet hard place. These two butt heads from the very beginning but their sparks they fly...
Samantha Grace writes an enchanting tale about finding your own security. About facing the gossips and winning. About creating a reputation that you can live with and flying in the face of popular opinion.
A really good book. I enjoyed every minute of it! And those Rogues?? Well can I have one?

This review is based on the ARC of In Bed With A Rogue, provided by netgalley and is scheduled to be released on September 2, 2014
I just finished reading In Bed with a Rogue, which takes place after he is jilted by his fiance who elopes with his best friend. Lady Helena Prestwick is free from her overbearing husband who won her in a card game at age 16 and secluded her from her family and society. Thorne is feeling sorry for himself by gettting in a Whitechapel tavern. He is attacked by footpads and the Angel of Whitechapel comes to his rescue. The angel is Lady Prestwick who is there looking for her sister Lavania who worked at a brothel. As she continues her search she goes to the church where she grew up to check the registry to see if her sister had married or died and runs into Thorne whose their with his sister Eve, who is an outcast because her fiance left her at the altar two years before. This sets off a series of events that takes them through learning to trust that all men are not bad and using someone to get what you want. This is a great story and the duel will have you laughing. Benjamin Hillary comes back after leaving Eve at the alter and Sebastian want satisfaction. Eve doesn't want either man killed so Lord Ellis suggests she puck the weapons and terms for the duel. Eve picks mens leather gloves and they are to have a smacking contest. Its too hilarious. Helena wants to find her sisters to give them a better life, but realizes that they are fine and really don't need her as much as she thought. Sebastian finds that he was wrong to force Lady Gabrielle into a marriage she didn't want to save his sister. All in all this was a great read with everyone trying to protect their loved ones and worrying about what others think of you. If they are your friends they will stick by you no matter what.
Having been jilted at the altar, Sebastian Thorne is determined to restore his family's reputation. When he finds the widow Lady Helena Prestwick in Whitechapel, he makes a deal with her. He will help her find the person she is looking for if she will befriend his sister and introduce her back into society.
Trying to find her sister in the high class brothels is not something Helena can do on her own. When Sebastian offers her deal, she jumps on it. Since she can't get into the brothels, who better to go than a gentleman with a reputation. But can she keep the secret that it is her sister she is looking for?
As they spend time together in society, neither of them counted on their attraction to each other. All Helena wants is to return to Scotland with her sisters. She has no plans to marry again, but Sebastian is making her question her decision.
I loved this story. I felt so sorry for Sebastian in One Rogue Too Many and was hoping he would find his HEA. Grace did not disappoint. I loved seeing Anthony and Gabby (from ORTM) again and that they helped Helena and Sebastian get to their HEA.
Sebastian wants nothing more for his family than acceptance. He will do anything, even marry someone he doesn't love. I was happy to see that Sebastian was finally able to get the acceptance for his sister that he craved after she was left by her betrothed. The added bonus was he found his other half. The chemistry between Helena and Sebastian practically jumped off the page. Well done, Samantha Grace!! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!
Thanks go to Sourcebooks via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.
Scandal follows Baron Sebastian Thorne after his betrothed jilted him. Lady Helena Prestwick, a recent widow, is on a mission to find her dear sisters and reunite with them. On her secret mission that could cause her to lose her place in society and scandal to arise, she stumbles upon an injured Sebastian Thorne. She assists him, much to her dismay, and therein begins their story.
Samantha Grace does a wonderful job capturing the essence of the regency period. I loved that the majority of the story was from Thorne’s point of view. Sebastian Thorne and Lady Prestwick are wonderful together; they are like friendly playmates who enjoy bantering each other.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and was entertained from beginning to end. There were moments of light entertainment, mystery, shock, and wonderment. I would love to read more about Eve Thorne’s story and if society will ever accept Lavinia.
In Bed With A Rogue is a wonderful historical novel that not only captures the essence of the regency period, but also captures the charming romance of Sebastian Thorne and Lady Prestwick.
Those searching for a regency romance novel with minimal sensual scenes should check this story out.
*I received an advance copy of this story in return for an honest review.
Samantha Grace's In Bed With a Rogue was a good love story. I have not read the first book of the series, but this book gave fairly good idea, what was going on in previous book.
In this book we have a hero, Sebastian, who is feeling his all time low after his fiancé has eloped with his best friend, so he drowns his sorrow into a cup and gets himself almost killed. But he is rescued and his surprise is big when he discovers, who is his rescuer and that he falls quick and deep in love with her.
And the heroine, Helena, Lady Prestwick, the rescuer of drunken Sebastian, has just one mission - to find her sisters and go back to Scotland with them. But when she finds Sebastian, she can not get rid of him anymore. He promises to help her and as the time goes by she starts to develop feelings for him. But she has a secret, fortunately not a secret, that would bring a world down if it would revealed, but still a secret that would ruin her place in society.
And so they help each other, Sebastian with her sisters and Helena with his sister and all goes well till they start to find her sisters and then somebody who knows her secret gets greedy.
But all ends well and the story is sweet and funny and entertaining.
This is a sultry story, with mild suspense, humor, and a happy ending Ooooo!La la! Jilted by his fiance', his sister jilted by HER'S, Sebastian Thorne has problems. Or, to be more correct, his family has problems, a history of them. So does Helena, Lady Prestwick. HER'S would also be scandalous, if anyone were to find out about them. In both cases, the bottom line is a devotion to family, and fathers that somehow complicated life. When both people realize that the other can assist with their problems (in Helena's case, given an assumption that she can keep Sebastian unaware of the truth of her life, and the problem she is seeking to solve), they form a partnership. Both are, of course, initially unaware of the attraction between them. Then, they deny it. Even after they accept that they are in love with each other, Helena is sure that her secret (which he is now partially filled in on!) precludes any further relationship. And just as I thought I had the book figured out, the author threw in a bonus mystery! Which did not turn out as I expected, and had just as many sudden twists as the rest of the story. I loved it!
This is a delightfully fun story that grabbed me from the start. The characters are witty and interesting. I love that the hero and heroine both have some challenges to overcome before they can admit that they need each other; however, they have fun and take risks while doing it. I also love the way that Ms. Grace includes characters we've come to love from her Beau Monde Bachelor series. This just adds to the depth and details of the world she writes in.
I can't wait to see what else happens in the Rival Rogues series. I can see several characters that have stories that need to be told, and want to hear them!
What an exciting historical romance set in 1819 England. Filled with a bit of humor, that will have you laughing out loud at times, sensuality, romance and of course, love. I loved the way Sebastian and Helena fit well together. Well written with engaging and believable characters. The storyline is intriguing as well as entertaining. A most sought after tale of romance and one in which Regency lovers are sure to delight in reading. A must read! Highly recommended!

Rating: 4.5 Heat rating: Mild Reviewed by: AprilR, courtesy of My Book Addiction and More
Maybe more like 3.5 as I had a hard time getting into it in the beginning. I definitely liked this one much better than the first book, though. Helena and Sebastian were a good couple. There was no fabricated angst, either. Helena needed a little knock on the head at one point, but honestly, her actions felt realistic and believable due to her past and present circumstances. And once Sebastian made his feelings clear, she came around pretty quickly. In other words, at no point did I get super frustrated with either of the MCs.
I wish each, or at least some, of Helena’s sisters had their own stories. The adult ones sort of had HEAs, but there’s a lot unresolved too. (Especially with Lavinia.) Maybe little Grace will be featured in a future series down the line. 🤞🏻
I thoroughly enjoy this book! It had some really funny moments, like the drum scene. I literally laughed out loud so hard. I am looking forward to reading the next book and I regret I didn't read the one prior, but I will now. It still worked for me as a stand alone :)
I was definitely curious about what happened to Lord Thorne after he was jilted, and now I know! In Bed with a Rogue wasn't as light and fun as the first book, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. At its open, Sebastian is wasted. He's been drinking away his worries in the less than safe side of town to avoid the gossip. On his way home, he's mugged and left in the street where the widow, Helena Prestwick, finds him and offers help. Upon meeting again, Helena proposes a deal that will improve both of their situations, but it also ignites the spark of true love!
In Bed with a Rogue does have a strong central plot in addition to the romance, which is what gave it its more serious tone. Helena is recently widowed, but her late husband was no great loss. He separated her from her family and kept her locked away in Scotland. Now she has her freedom, a lot of money, and is set on tracking down her four sisters. However, no one can know about her past, since she is not a "real" lady. She enlists Sebastian's help, since she learns that one of her sisters works at a brothel and there's no way she can get in. Finding her is the key to find the other three, so Sebastian agrees as long as Helena sponsors his sister during the season and helps her find a husband. Of course, Sebastian has other motivations for wanting her near.
The romance was really sweet. I already adored Thorne from the first book and wanted to see him happy! In Bed with a Rogue takes him from jilted bachelor to wedded bliss with the woman of his dreams. There is an immediate attraction between the two, and I liked how they both just came out and said it almost right from the beginning instead of playing coy. Helena did try to keep him at arm's length, since she was scared of being dominated by a man again, but Sebastian is not like that at all. I also loved how there was no huge drama between them! They were open and honest with each other, and it really paid off in the end.
In Bed with a Rogue was great. While the tone was more serious than One Rogue Too Many, there were still some quite funny scenes. My favorite being the duel where Sebastian's sister gets to pick the weapon! There's also cameos from Anthony and Gaby which I enjoyed, too. I will most definitely be checking out Samantha Grace's other romances after this!

"In Bed with a Rogue ," is a delightfully witty romance complete with Scandals, Rogues and oppurtunity for second chances at family and love.
Lady Helena Prestwik has returned to London from her home Aldmist Falls in Scotland after the death if her Husband , the Viscount Prestwick in search of her four younger sisters. The Viscount had taken her from her home ,her father and her sisters to live in Scotland. Helena, was then educated to be a Lady, and married to the Viscount when she reached the age of 19;but always regretted that he would not allow her to bring her sisters to her and afford them the escape from her father also.
Helena, is well respected by the ton and has been received well by everyone, but if they knew she searched White Chapel brothels late at night with her Servent Fergus for her Sister Lavinia, hoping to give her a better life and find the younger girls and give them a beter life too, she woukd get thew cut direct.
Baron Sebastion Thorne , he is no stranger to scandel, jilted by his fiancee, whom he hoped would be able to repair his sister Eva's reputation since she qwas keft at the alter by her Fiancee, which just brought back to the forfront of the tom that Sebastions father went a bit mad before he passed away.Which is why he was in Whitechapel trying to bury his problems in a bottle. Whitechapel is were Helena and Sebastion first meet when she saves him after he is mugged.
When Sebastion finally peices toghether that the Angel is Helena, he goes to confront her, a Lady should Not be In Whitechapel at night, actually never! These two form an allience, Sebastion searching In the brothels that only gentlemen can gain entry to fro Lavinia and Helena Sponsoring Eva.Clndestine meetings and updates, dancesand luncheons and more and more time tohether leads to nit just a sexual attraction but love between two people who are slow to recognize it, and the difficulty of making a relationship work.
This book gives you a Smart, headstrong ,genrous and loving heroine with a Strong, Protective ,caring and loving hero and some wonderful secondary Charachters, I particuraly loved Fergus! But i am a soft touch when it comes to a brogue.
I received this book as a Goodreads First Reads. I chose this book not only because of the beautiful cover, but because I'm a sucker for historical romance and a good rogue. This rogue, however, is not as rakish as I first thought, and the damsel you could think the heroine is, well, she's nothing of the sort!
Lord Sebastian Thorne is a family-oriented, stubborn yet level headed man who won't take flack from anyone. His family, like all characters in the book, have great personalities that both help and hinder his pursuit of retributions and holding onto the woman he is falling for.
Lady Helena Prestwick is also a family-oriented, stubborn yet level headed woman who also won't let anyone drag her down or keep her from finding her long lost sisters. A long way from her lands in Scotland, the recent widow is finally in search of her sisters, which are not close to be ladies by any means. In her search, Helena wants to make sure her sisters are well and will move back to Scotland with her.
Without saying too much about the storyline, Helena and Sebastian become entangled in a bargain that brings them closer together during the night and day. They sneak around, fight the wagging tongues on the ton, and ultimately find that what they're looking for is not what they expected:
Helena's sisters do not live in poverty, nor are they lonely. This puts a crimp in Helena's plans to move back to Scotland with her sisters. For Sebastian, these circumstances come into his favor as he talk Helena into staying in London a while longer.
Overall, this book was well-written for a period novel. Each character has their flaws, which makes the book all the more interesting. With plenty of humor and "oh my gosh, no!" moments, In Bed with a Rogue is a wonderful romance that will leave you wanting more, which is why I plan to go back and read the first book in the series along with all of Samantha Grace's other novels. Enjoy!
Baron Sebastian Thorne is not a happy man. The woman he planned to marry has been “stolen" by his best friend, the Earl of Ellis. In order to drown his sorrows, he is deep in his cups from drinking. Having sent his driver home earlier, he decides to walk home. Bad decision! He is immediately attacked, beaten and robbed in the streets of Whitechapel by footpads and left unconscious.
Lady Helena Prestwick a widow from Aldmist Fell in Scotland, is in London searching for her four sisters, Cora, Pearl, Gracie and Lavinia. Helena and her sisters were very young when their mother died and their father turned to drink. As the oldest, Helena did all she could to care for her sisters until the day her father literally sold her to her husband so her father could get money for his needs. Now, that Helena is a widow, she is determined to find her sisters and get the family back together. She fears that they are working in a brothel. So, she and her trusted friend, Fergus, are out most nights searching the brothels.
Lucky for Sebastian, Helena happens upon him the night he is beaten and takes him home to nurse his wounds. Grateful for her help and attracted to her as well, he agrees to assist her in her search for her sisters.
She soon finds her sister, Lavinia, who lives as the courtesan of a wealthy and kind man who loves her and wants to marry her. Her youngest sister, Gracie, is living with Lavinia. Cora is married to a butcher and the mother of several children. Pearl has not been found.
As Sebastian and Helena become more immeshed into one another’s lives, their attraction grows and romance blossoms.
The family members and other characters in the story are all so very well written. I could just picture each of them perfectly. I think readers will truly enjoy this story of strength, love and determination.
I was lucky enough to get an advanced reader copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. This book was so, so good! I would recommend reading One Rogue Too Many before this, as the hero, Sebastian, played a significant role in that book & his actions in this book reflect his treatment in the prior story. Helena, the heroine, was married to an older man to settle her father's gambling debt, years before this story takes place. Both her father and husband were dead before this story started. She had been ripped away from her 4 sisters & her Helena's controlling husband would not let her see them again. Her sisters had been told that Helena was dead, so that they would not try to contact her. Now, as a widow, she is out looking in dangerous areas for her sister, who had become a prostitute to save her younger sisters. Sebastian happens to be out in the same area & is attacked. Helena saves his life. They end up making a deal. He will help her find her sister & she, as a titled lady, will sponsor his younger sister in society. There are many excellent secondary characters & an intriguing story line. There are also some appearances by characters in Samantha's prior Beau Monde Bachelor series. Sebastian is really the perfect, romantic hero. Love him!
Poor Sebastian, he's been jilted at the altar, and he's worried about his sister's standing in society since she was also jilted. After trying to forget his predicament in the bottom of a mug of ale, he's accosted on the street. The "Angel of White Chapel" comes to his aid, much to her bodyguard's dismay. Helena is quite taken with him, thinks his lips are very kissable. She's been searching for her sisters since she became a widow and instead, has stumbled upon Sebastian.
An unexpected meeting brings them together. There's a dance between the two of them, each yearning, but each with their own set of issues. She's hiding secrets of her humble beginnings, and he's in need of a wife to stop the gossips. This was a gentle romance that moved along nicely.
One thing that bothered me, Helena kept saying she was worried about her youngest sister's standing in society. Only the youngest? She had other sisters, too. I was worried that we wouldn't discover their fate in this book, but thankfully, Ms. Grace gives us closure.
A sweet read that I recommend to those who enjoy Regency romances.
*Thank you, Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
I was lucky enough to receive a First Readers copy of this book and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of historical romance novels and this book had everything that I love about the genre: great chemistry between the leading couple, drama/scandal and witty one-liners that make me laugh out loud.
I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series and read about Eve and Ben's story--that man has a lot to answer for! I'm even more curious about the lives and romances of Lavinia and Pearl and I hope Samantha Grace publishes their stories in the future.
Update: I'm not sure why but they've mailed me three review copies of this book. Luckily I have friends who are avid readers like I am so I've had no trouble getting them to adopt the books as their own to read and recommend to others.
Ah, Sebastian finally has something go right for him! I really liked him in the last book so I was really happy to see him find a lady that was made just for him. It was sweet to see a little of his sister, too. Helena had such a crappy time with her childhood and her first marriage that it was nice to see her take a chance and give in to love with Sebastian. I hope there will be more in this series cause I firmly believe that Ms. Grace can write one heckva romance.
I was lucky enough to receive an arc and I am so happy I did. This is my favorite Samantha Grace book. I couldn't put it down not only because of the romance but because I had to know what happened to Helena's sisters. It grabbed my attention from the first line. I thought Sebastian and Helena made a good couple that I cared about; however, I think my favorite characters were Fergus and Lavinia.
Loved this book - even had a surprise ending which is somewhat unusual for a romance. Loved the characters and the description of the layers of society. There were parts of the story that I didn't like, but it didn't have anything to do with the writing but descriptions of things that were acceptable in England during that time period that I didn't like :)
This is a very good story. Sebastian and Helena were a great couple. Helena was on mission to find her sisters and Sebastian is just the person to help her with that quest. Then the fall in love .
