In the sapphic historical romance "Masked Pursuit," Lord Jonto, a bold woman living as a male pirate for ten years, finds herself irresistibly drawn to Isla, a graceful aristocrat who embodies elegance and sophistication. As Jonto sails the high seas, she navigates the complexities of her double life, charming Isla with her adventurous spirit and quick wit. Unbeknownst to Isla, the alluring pirate she both admires and hates is a lesbian, igniting a powerful enemies-to-lovers journey filled with intense emotions and buried secrets.
Their initial animosity transforms into a passionate love story as Jonto's daring spirit and Isla's charm draw them closer. Torn between her secret life and her growing affection for Isla, Jonto navigates the perilous waters of revealing her deepest desires to the bewitching woman while keeping her true identity a secret.
Will their journey from enemies to lovers culminate in a triumphant romance, or does the weight of secrets threaten to tear the budding romance apart before it's even begun?

"Thar be pirates!", but not the pirates you were expecting. This early 1800's story reveals the life of a pirate who tries to make a difference for his crew and for honest merchants. Due to the secrets he must hide, it is a delicate balance. There are references to real people and products you would know, which only enhances the read.
This is an excellent story which reveals the difficulties in living in a "Absolute Male-Preference Primogeniture". It is easy to extend the difficulties to those faced today by the people who do not fit the "ideal human" fantasized by many.
The author will draw you in with the storyline and easliy pulls you along as she reveals the characters. Many of the characters you will respect, several you will love and some you would hope to never meet. There are appropriate sardonic quips: “A warning would have been nice.” “But not nearly as much fun.”
There are absolute truisms which will get you to think: "nobility isn’t really about what family you were born into. It’s about how you treat those you consider beneath your notice and station.”
The reveals of the story will keep you hoping for more. You will feel like you are along on this trip and isn't that what's great about a book?
It is part of the author's Sapphic Romance series of books, so expect some explicit romance.
I would read anything this author wrote and this one does not disappoint! I couldn't put it down, I had to know what happened. Jonto and Isla are great characters and you hope it all works out. Unfortunately, its the 1800s and they live in a kingdom where men inherit and same-sex relations are punished by imprisonment. I loved the fact that several women got to have the adventure of their lives on Jonto's ship, The secondary characters are well drawn and add a lot to the story. You will especially enjoy Celie, Lily and Ilona. Watching Isla grow to shrug off social expectations is a joy. Don't miss this one.
DNF for a number of reasons, but primarily because I feel like we all have a responsibility to not perpetuate dangerous misinformation.
Maidenheads do not exist. The myth that they do can, worst case scenario, be directly life-threatening to people with vaginas who are being controlled by those who believe the myth. And, best case, confusing to people who aren't provided access to reasonable amounts of correct information about how their bodies work.
Which, frankly, is all of us. But worse for some than others.
I watch for this Authors books. Every book I have read by this author has been very good. I enjoy books with strong female characters this author never disappoints. This book has everything I enjoy strong female characters that do what they have to survive in a world run by men. Characters are well written and likable. Female pirates love it . thanks for another enjoyable read.
review A tragic start bring the need for lies. But lies have to create other lies to keep the first in place. Pretending to be something you are not brings it's own set of ups and downs. Finally finding what you want while living your lie creates a hazardous journey. How deep can one lie create a person so different that it inhibits a real life.
I’m kicking myself for keeping this book shelved for a while. I was waiting until that moment I wanted dashing pirates, sea battles and dangerous swordplay. This was NOT the storyline. Instead, it focuses on character development and the complications of social class. I loved this book. I thought it was a refreshing way to write a pirate story. Unique in all the best ways.
Delightful; recommend. This book is masterfully written with precise detail of ships at sea. Detailed understanding and recounting of the politics of the time. Empathetic character creation with lovely elegant use of language to convey emotion and state of mind. Definite recommendation.
A good plot, excellent character development and fun to read. Plus a happy ending. I read a lot of books and this one was a delight to read. Highly recommend!!
I loved this book. The characters were all so relatable and lovable I hope we get more out of this world I want to see some of the other women find love as well and I am definitely interested in captain jack.
