Welcome to an official Charlotte’s BookNook book review! Make sure to go follow my YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@charlottes_bookn...) if you haven’t already. I post video reviews and all sorts of clean bookish content! Now let’s get this review started.

Ok. Where do I even start? This story was phenomal but ended with a violent twist. First off, let me just say that the first 400 pages of this book were a masterpiece. They were intoxicating. I couldn’t stop reading even though it was such a long book! I loved the atmosphere of the small more rural town and something about these friends felt so incredibly comforting. These are characters I will never stop thinking about.
I absolutely loved how the romance was clean but a big part of the story.
I could tell the author put her heart and soul into writing these characters and I will never be able to forget them.
If you were a fan of the Keeper of the Lost Cities series growing up, you will love this! It totally gives the same friend group and love triangles vibe that I adored. It feels like being back in a favorite series of mine while being completely unique to itself!
I liked how the story progressed. It always left you wondering what was going to happen and never being able to guess what would be on the next page!
I liked the morals and messages a lot, and there were definitely a few moments I was underlining.
This book is just unforgettable. It made me cry, my heart pound, and squeal all in these 542 pages. It never felt too long and there was NEVER a boring moment. I wanted to rate this a ♾️⭐️ sooo bad. But the last 100 pages took a violent turn. If you’re like me and sensitive to torture, I wouldn’t be able to recommend this to you which really hurts my soul. There were a few descriptive scenes of the kids getting tortured before being sold into slavery that made me squirm. I do understand why they were in the story, and if this was marketed towards older teens it wouldn’t be a problem, but for a book that follows somewhat innocent 14 and 15 year olds, it kind of felt out of place. If you’re not sensitive to that though, please please please read this.

Language:
Crap, what the heck
LGBTQ+:
None
Romance:
Two boys like the same girl but one doesn’t share that with the other. Lots of scenes of a boy trying to figure out his feelings for two girls.
A man is very creepy towards a single mom with his words and touch and makes her very uncomfortable. I felt like it was written well and made you really feel emotions about this character without being inappropriate.
Violence:
Kid dies from a tree falling on her. A boy almost dies from the same thing. Lots of grief from losing family members is discussed. Lots of fight scenes and mentions of blood and bones breaking. Kids are tortured by boiling water, water pressure, whips and punches and it’s described somewhat descriptively. Kids almost die multiple times by gruesome deaths in the last 100 pages. It’s written so well to the point where I read this for hours without taking a break, but pretty violent.
Religious Views:
No religions are mentioned. Mentions of learning about “Martin Luther nailing a paper onto the outside of the church.” Mentions of Mother Nature. A man is known as a drunk and there are mentions of sobering up, being drunk, and finding places to buy alcohol.
Authority Roles:
Our main character Cal’s mom is our main adult. She has gone through so much trauma and pain but continues to give Cal the best loving life possible and raise him to be a man. Other characters parents are present and seem to be written well, not being too present in the story but good, caring parents when mentioned.

Absolutely phenomenal.
You will never guess what will come next-the plot twist will leave you completely breathless. Each character has been written with so much love that you can feel through the pages. I have recommended this amazing book to everyone I know because it is one worth sharing. Every time it's brought up, no one can resist gushing about the plots-drama-and certain character we deem as worthy to die. It has such a unique look on a dystopian world and future, which you don't see much now in YA books. If you're looking for a clean, but still one WILD ride of a book, this. is. the. book. I cannot stress how great this book is and how much it deserves a glance. I'm still shocked at the plot twist.

This book was a totally great read. I fell in love (and in some instances hate), with the characters in the story. It was an action packed adventure that made me laugh, cry and turn pages to see what happened. I highly recommend the book. What a story!!

Dude!! This book is amazing!! I absolutely love the characters, and I can't stop thinking about them! What's going to happen in book 2!? I need the next one!
The language is clean and uplifting, the main characters model excellent teenage behavior and there are some awesome character archs. When there's a storm in a chapter, you feel like you're actually in it!! The events feel so realistic and it's easy to get sucked into this book!! Especially after the halfway point! Most of the people I know read this book in like 3 or 4 days, and the hardest part is trying not to give any spoilers to our friends who haven't read it yet!
There definitely were some violent parts, but I kind of think the level of violence is in the realm of other young adult novels. I feel like it's in between Harry Potter's fight scene with Professor Quirrel in the The Sorcerer's Stone and Keeper of the Lost City's kidnapping and torture scenes, but it's not as brutal as The Hunger Games. Those parts are hard, but I kind of feel that big heroes need big problems, and this main character is on an amazing hero journey! The main character does an awesome job being brave and rising above his challenges. It's so inspiring! I definitely think it's a cool message for boys to see a hero in the making!!
I need more Everchange Books!!

A book that combines Harry Potter, middle earth and post-apocalyptic vibes all into one exciting novel. In a world where extreme nature is ever-changing the physical landscape of the world, Cal and his mother are on their own to navigate survival. When they meet a village that is willing to accept them into their civilization Cal (now a teenager) finds stability and strength in friendship. However, when that stability is threatened is ever-changing dynamics throughout the book, Cal has to find strength from within to protect the family and friends that he holds so dear. Just like the shifting landscapes in the novel, this book had twists and turns on every page that kept me guessing and readjusting my predictions until the final page.

I got the opportunity to meet with the author and cover illustrator for a small group Q&A and they are both AMAZING!!! I'm so glad that book 2 is in the works and can't wait! A clean read which would be appropriate for middle school ages and above.

TW for some suggestions of human trafficking. It was written in a way that promotes education and discussion of a serious topic in a careful and respectful way that would be appropriate for middle school aged audiences.

Everchange is a gripping and thought-provoking novel that masterfully weaves together themes of resilience, love, and human connection in a world ravaged by natural disasters. Cal's journey is both haunting and hopeful, as he navigates the treacherous landscape of a post-apocalyptic world while grappling with the complexities of his own emotions. The author's vivid world-building and nuanced character development make this story feel both timely and timeless. A must-read for fans of dystopian fiction and anyone looking for a compelling exploration of the human spirit.
