Fury #3

Shattered Ice

Rate this book
Razor sharp between the pipes, mysterious off the ice, Malakai Petrov is the Chicago Fury’s notorious goalie. The 6’5 Russian giant is hiding an entire world behind the mask he wears on and off the ice. He thinks his secrets are buried deep enough so that no one can ever crack the ice guarding his stone heart. Until he meets a certain teammate's sister, with hypnotizing silver eyes, who’s got a knack for sticking her nose in places it doesn’t belong.

Charlotte Greene met the man behind the mask years before anyone knew his name. The punk chick with calloused fingers from the strings of her violin never could shake the memory of him. When unexpected circumstances put them back in each other’s life, she sets her sights on turning his life upside down.

From stealing his dog, leaving her panties on his stairs, and batting her soul-stealing eyes, Malakai is forced to question everything he once knew. These two are skating on thin ice and it won’t be long until it, and his will to keep his hands to himself, shatters.

Shattered Ice is a standalone novel in the Fury Series and deals with sensitive subjects some may find triggering.

Malakai is a hockey player, he is pretty closed off and he never talks about his past in Russia. Charlotte is a musical genius, with a lively and sociable personality. They meet by chance, but soon enough they find out they have a mutual acquaintance, Emerson, Kai’s teammate and housemate and Charlotte’s twin brother. This puts a damper to their relationship, will they refrain to act on their physical attraction? Or will they give in to their strong chemistry?

Shattered Ice was a good read, emotional, hot and amusing, but I didn’t love it as much as the previous books of the series.
The main characters were well depicted and unique, I couldn’t not get attached to them and their lives but I felt the story a bit rushed at certain points.

I adored the ending and I’m already looking forward to Monty Jay’s next work.

Wow, what a read. A deeply emotional story that is tragically heartbreaking and beautifully romantic, this book sucked me in and didn’t let me go, and I felt everything!

This is the third book in the Fury series, and is the story of NHL star, Malakai “Kai” Petrov. Kai is the goalie for the Chicago Fury, and though he has formed close friendships with a small group of his teammates, he is a lonely, mysterious and solitary man, and that’s exactly how he likes it. This book begins by showing us a glimpse of Kai’s past, and oh, holy hell it’s dark! Tragic and brutal in the most devastating of ways, it gives us so much insight into him as a character, and frankly, I’m surprised the man is a sane and functioning member of society after living through all of that! He is a man who feels deep pain, and understandably so, but he has his outlet in his art. Sure, he enjoys hockey, but it’s a way for him to make money so that he can do what his heart truly desires, which is to pour out his feelings into his various projects.

Charlotte is a gifted and dedicated violin player who is dealing with her own pain and family drama, but she finds peace and comfort in her music. Her twin brother is suffering right along with her, but he’s struggling to cope with the enormity of his feelings, instead turning to drugs to help ease his pain, so she agrees to temporarily move in with him to help keep him on track. Her brother, Emerson is a hockey player, and his roommate is none other than Kai.

Charlotte and Kai have already met – neither of them knowing too much about the other or aware of their connection through Charlotte’s brother, but sharing significant moments together nonetheless. There is a clear attraction between the two of them, and now that they’re under the same roof, Charlotte is determined to push Kai’s buttons to get him out of his shell and start something between them, even though he’s made it clear that he has no intention of going there.

Malakai was always calculated, always organized, and I wanted to make a mess of him. Muddy him up until he was so lost in me, he’d never find his way out.

It’s a great set-up as these two opposites clash so gloriously. Quirky and slightly chaotic Charlotte comes barrelling into Kai’s controlled and serious world, and completely turns him upside down. He’s never felt anything like what he feels for her, and he has no idea what to do with it. It’s both sad and wildly entertaining, and I loved how Charlotte would taunt and flirt with Kai, holding nothing back and pushing him way outside of his comfort zone.

I’d made him break that control. I had pushed him too far, and watching him unravel was something beautiful.
In a tragic way.

Kai’s past has left its mark on him and impacts the way he sees women and the things he does with them. Nothing disturbing, but he does have his kinks and preferences, but Charlotte is like nobody he has ever known, and she affects him like nobody before her. His feelings for her grow day by day, and he soon becomes lost to the intensity of it all.

Religion wasn’t my thing, but if Charlotte was a religion, I’d worship at her temple every night. I’d pledge my sins to her altar, beg her forgiveness in confession because holding her felt like I had faith in something.

It’s not a straight-forward relationship. There is chemistry and emotion, but it’s a slow-developing thing as they both wrestle with their own demons. There is a lot they need to overcome, and I felt this fantastic sense of anticipation the whole time I was reading just waiting to see how it would all work out for them. It’s raw, messy and passionate, and the emotion is powerful as they open up and allow it to consume them.

“I could burn this place to the ground with what I feel for you.”

And in the midst of all of the intensity, there are these perfect, sweet moments that are beautifully tender and so freaking swoony, and I loved watching them find something special together.

She made me feel safe. Unstained.

But the demons they are wrestling with are strong, and they still have issues to overcome, and it is not an easy ride for them. I ached with these characters and all that they are going through. It’s all so freaking unfair, and knowing how incredible they could be together, I couldn’t wait for them to find their way through it all. And it’s so worth the wait, because when it comes, it’s beautiful and heartfelt, and I had tears in my eyes watching it all play out.

“I’m not capable of loving you the way you deserve, but I have the nerve to love you anyway.”

The rest of the Fury crew are a part of the story, and I loved seeing them all. They are a great bunch of characters, and their playful dynamic made me laugh. But it was the way they embraced Kai and took his back that really got to me, and there are some gorgeous moments between them all.

“Whatever happens, this family has you. Your family always has you, just like you had us.”

There’s a really intriguing side story for Charlotte’s brother, Emerson, who will be the hero of the next book. Knowing what we know already, it’s bound to be another emotional read full of feels, and I am here for it!

I’m loving this series! Monty Jay writes so beautifully – emotional and raw with a unique edge - and I can’t wait for more.

4.5 stars.

Oh Malachi 🥹🥹🥹

This series is so incredibly good, and I’ve truly savored every moment with these characters. Each book is filled with trauma, tension, and a deeply heartbreaking kind of love that stays with you long after you finish reading.

Malachi and Charlotte’s story is no exception. They both carry heavy, devastating trauma that is somehow so different from one another, yet their love unfolds in a way that is raw, painful, and heartbreakingly beautiful. The audiobook narration is absolutely top tier. Amy Hall is one of my favorite narrators because she has a way of making you feel like you’re directly inside the FMC’s head.

I’m so glad I finally picked this series up and can’t wait to continue on with the next book!

Monty Jay’s writing is so good I can’t get over it.

I have mixed feelings about this one in particular just because I felt like it was so short and I needed more between Kai and Charlotte. Kai goes through some pretty dark things as a child and I was hoping to see him and Charlotte work through his trauma some more.

I did really enjoy the storyline and connection between the two, but I think I just needed more.

Highlights:
“I think he'd see her in a coffee shop, and fall in love with the way that she looked like every season in one person. Summer in her smile, spring in her touch, autumn in her cheeks, and winter in her eyes.”

“Religion wasn’t my thing, but if Charlotte was a religion, I’d worship at her temple every night. I’d pledge my sins to her altar, beg her forgiveness in confession because holding her felt like I had faith in something.”

-sport romance
-brother’s teammate

I’m really sad about this one because I love this series & Monty is my favorite author, but this one is not my favorite. It felt really rushed. ☹️ Monty’s writing is stunning though as always. Very poetic. 🫶🏼

3.5 This book definitely pulled at my heartstrings, filled with emotion and the weight of grief. Kai and Charlotte's pasts were full of trauma, and I felt like their journey to healing wasn't fully realized by the end. I also would have loved to see more of their story, to dive deeper into the details and strengthen their connection.

I am consistently impressed by the emotive power of Monty Jay’s writing. This series has the emotional impact and character complexity of a seasoned vet’s. And Shattered Ice yet again shows her talent- a story that is as raw and dark in places as it is soothing and light. A story about healing and hope- and the chance meetings that inspire them.

We finally get into the heart and mind of the mysterious and stoic Fury goalie Kai. And OH MY SOUL- I did not expect to be so shattered by him. Little did we know the man who has been the support, the steady heart for everyone else is battling demons that are dark and debilitating. Of all the characters Monty has created, he perhaps has the most pain (which is saying a lot for this series). The prologue alone gutted me- as we learn just what lies beneath the facade of this character- the shattered heart and soul that in turn shattered mine.

A chance encounter with a pint-sized, blue haired music virtuoso changes him- calls to him in a way that hasn’t happened before. And then something magic happens- she SEES him. Not his beauty, or his athletic strength- she sees his pain, his suffering, straight into his soul. A few words, an uncanny insight, and they both crawl into each other’s beings. But Charlotte is young, and Kai is too wounded- so it isn’t until years later when they have another chance encounter, one they can’t escape from, that their real romantic journey begins.

This story felt very different than the others- the most obvious reason being that unlike the prior to books, these two characters didn’t really know each other before. There was an existing connection of sorts- a meet cute that stuck with them for years, but their foundation really begins here. And, it was more of an insta-love type situation- a calling of souls that is inexplicable but magnetic. It was fun to watch Monty Jay play with a different type of chemistry and relational arc- watching two characters try to make meaning of a connection they don’t understand vs. wading through a more complex relations history. There are parts of there chemistry that are truly touching. They are both lonely characters, hurt and betrayed by those that are supposed to protect them. And each of them has coped with their pain, with the lost parts of themselves, in different ways. But, they speak to each other- both so different but they vibrate on the same frequency. Because they SEE each other- they calm each other. And they make life more bearable- she soothes his pain, even if love can not truly heal him, and he makes her more self-assured and brave. They absorb each other’s pain, and face their own- finding a love so pure, so sweet, so BIG that it outweighs. the hurt

These characters are SO unique, and so beautifully articulated. Charlotte is different- in a fantastic way- a witty, quirky, and at times odd heroine whose heart heart radiates as brightly as her hair. And Kai- he’s a tornado of emotional energy, oozing with dark self-loathing and an iron-clad heart. Monty is truly a master at creating unique characters with raw and painful emotional burdens - she GOES there. She lets her characters hurt and suffer, she’s unafraid to explore adversity. Her characters are flawed, unapologetically, and they are not healed or “fixed” by love- rather than are awakened. These two share a special love- I felt their pull, but I did wish for a bit more of the “in between”- more of the small moments where these two grow together, between the instalove and the full fledged togetherness. Mostly because I’m selfish- and I love this series and loved these two characters, and there is SO much to unpack with both them, their individual journeys actually capture me even more than their romance in places. BUT- the ending is just SO perfect- and I loved how Monty wove in all the characters that we already love (and will learn to love soon) into the story.

All in all, I was captured by moon eyes and her fallen angel. Like always, Monty shattered my heart and then repaired it, and I can’t wait for what is next- I can already feel my heart cracking yet again.

Audiobook 5 Stars!

Opposites Attract + Brothers Best Friend + Hockey Goalie/Musician + Tortured Past MMC/ FMC with Sick Mother

Oh sweet sweet Malakai. This tortured past MMC bumps into Charlotte (Charlie) while she is visiting the states on a school trip and he is tagging building with his art. They have an instant connection but the moment was fleeting and they never expected to see each other again. Fast forward several years later, Malakai is the Goalie for the Chicago Fury, the team that Charlie's brother is also on, and they bump into each other and sparks fly. Malakai's past and abuse prevents him from seeking out meaningful relationships with women and throw in the one woman he really shouldn't have because it's his best friends little sister, and you could cut the angst with a knife.

I really liked the dynamic between these two characters. I felt that Charlie was the perfect woman to bring Malakai out of his shell and show him that love does exist. The third act breakup was heartbreaking and what followed had me tearing up. I do wish this book was just a tad longer but only because I wanted more from these two characters. Additionally, seeing the other characters from the previous books pop up and have life updates was so heartwarming.

Overall, I loved the narrators and thought they did an great job with the audio and I cannot wait to continue this series!

This book was sent to me from Netgalley for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

GENRE: CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.
AUTHOR:MONTY JAY.
TYPE: STANDALONE IN THE INTERCONNECTED WORLD OF FURY.
POV: FIRST PERSON- DUAL PERSPECTIVE.
MY RATING: 5 " breath-takingly good " STARS.

This was my first read by Monty Jay...My book buddy literally forced me to read this one and I cannot thank her enough...I was warned that it will be a really emotional book and boy, I should heed the warnings. You will need tissues...boxes of tissues when reading this...Because there will be happy tears and heart shattering sad tears.

Malakai "Kai"( I love how the name just rolls off my tongue.) was a deeply injured character...injuries can be healed leaving just scars but emotionally he is still as injured as he was when he was a child...When he should have a carefree childhood filled with joy...he was going through the trauma of child abuse, sexual slavery...
Now, In the present...he is still the brooding, asocial person but still, he is the pillar for his friends. When they need him he is there. He is such a unique character and there is no possibility of not falling in love with him.

Charlotte "Lottie", "Mooneyes"...She was the bravest...she took the leap of faith and loved him. she saw him for who is ...not the athlete, beautiful man but the broken man who hides so much. It was his painting that first enticed her. They both were such complex characters...we can't help but keep reading to shed light on many layers of them one by one.
And that beautiful hair of Lottie... Amazingly detailed M.J.

That ending...the twist before the end was earth shattering...the heartbreaks, agony to be with each other yet resisting the feelings. But rest assured, that ending will heal everything. I swooned...Kai was the best book Boyfriend. They were both perfect and complete eachother.

She was a temple, an eternal empire, and now she’s crumbling before me.

5/5 1.5/5 🌶️

Wow! This was a spectacularly good book and an amazing ride. No surprise since it was written by Monty! Kai was a …walking earthquake.

I didn’t know what to expect from Kai, he was a mystery throughout the previous books so the first chapter of this book was an electric shock to me. Kai was an incredible character to read, and although I wanted to slap his beautiful face at least a couple of times, I was still hurting for him and loving him so much. Is it possible to feel pride for a fictional character? Maybe? Because that’s what I felt for him. His povs were agony and heaven at the same time. I really liked this grumpy, annoying mystery of a man! Did he win the crown from Niko? Probably no, but he was quite the competition and his growth was an applauding fit.

Charlotte and Kai were the perfect couple because whereas Kai was thunderous rain and gray cloudy skies, she was sunrays, a kaleidoscope of colors and emotions. Charlotte had certain dualities that I adored like how she had beautiful smiles and optimism but also suffered from instances of sadness and loneliness that I can fully relate to. Both of them were great characters but it was one of these cases that they truly shined together and just as a couple but from the beginning of their journey.

I will say this now and I will say it every single time, I love Monty Jay and I love their characters, books and stories. Their writing is amazing and having read their older books (like this one) and their newer series, it is amazing to explore how their style changes and adapts to each story and character. Truly love this author!

Now to Emerson, who I already hurt for!

Did I like it? So good!
Would I reread it? Sure.

Monty you continue to amaze me with your way with words, the depth of your characters and their beautiful broken stories. Thank you for sharing them the world.
Kai was a battered and abused boy that has now become a broken grown man. He is still feeling the pain from his memories and now matter how fast he is he can never out run them. He deals with them on a daily basis and his outlet is his art form. murals, paintings and sketches. Kia now makes his living as a hockey goalie where he can be on a team but still in his own head and so far it is working for him.
Charlotte is a uniquely talented young woman that is wise beyond her years. She is grasping to hold on to the memories of her family those of the mom she knew that is now deteriorating and a brother that is battling his own demons.
These two shattered souls are expressing their emotions and pain through art and music. Kia with his paintings and Charlie with her violin. Their paths crossed many years ago and neither one has been able to forget. It is fate that has now brought them together but is it possible for them to pick up the pieces of one another to become one for each other. A beautifully heartbreaking story of love, forgiveness and personal healing.

Let's face it; in many ways, 2020 has been a hot mess of a year. In one way, it has not been has been my introduction to the writing of Monty Jay. Without a doubt, she is one of my top 5 favorite new (to me) authors I have encountered this year. Love and Hockey yanked my heart out and sent me on a roller coaster of emotions with the story of Valor and Bishop. Iced Hearts re-arranged my feelings in so many ways, Nico's story of his pure love of family (especially his relationship with his father). The apparent contrast to Riggs's horrific upbringing and how Nico's beauty and love brought love and healing to Riggs--well, that was a two-week book hangover. Now, we have Kai and Charlotte's story, and this one strikes every artistic chord and resonates with beauty. It is true beauty rising from brokeness. It segues so nicely from the first two novels and leads us to the yet-to-be-released fourth novel.

We have met Kai in the previous two books in the series. He's super quiet, and although he is a good, reliable, and protective friend, he keeps himself removed and distant. Not even his closest friends on the team know that much about him. He plays everything very close to the vest. He has his reasons, and to divulge any of that would be cheating you. He is so much more than we have ever expected or anticipated. Where Monty got this idea, I don't know, but BRAVO! It is unexpected, beautiful, and utterly breathtaking to read.

Charlotte is art personified. She's a violin prodigy, but she was meant to be a punk rocker from the late 70's and early 80's. Monty does such a good job describing her even down to her button collection because any real punk rocker from that era in time collected buttons. Fanzines made them, you wore as many as you could on your torn t-shirts, and you definitely displayed your band loyalty with your wardrobe. She's crazy, versatile, creative on the fly, and the opposite of Kai in many ways. But so much like him at the same time.

Their meeting is inevitable, fate, kismet, whatever, but how Monty writes it is pure fun and gets your heart beating fast for what you know is coming. Add in; she just happens to be Kai's roommate's twin and best bud from the hockey team. I could mention some more stuff to tantalize you more, but that would give things away. One of the best things about reading this book is how it unfolds--how it's not all at once, but bit-by-bit. Charlotte brings music and color to Kai's world, and he brings beautiful memories to hers.

There is so much beauty on this book's pages I cannot even begin to sing enough praises. Thank you, Monty, for scenes with Riggs and Nico and the uber delectable wedding of Valor and Bishop. Although this book is standalone, I would highly recommend reading Love and Hockey and Iced Hearts before this one. However, if you read it, either way, you will not be disappointed. It is beauty that begins broken and fallen but arises with color and sound, taking your breath away.

**note this is the most extended review I think I have ever written--this book deserves accolades**

Malakai and Charlotte’s book is magic on Ice!

Malakai Adrian Petrov, Kai, the broken hero, deep scars, buried anger and secrets covered by routines and rituals that we and his team-mates have come to know through the first two books in Author Monty Jay’s Chicago Fury ice hockey series. Each of these are stand-a-lones, but I unreservedly recommend that you do yourself a favour and start at the beginning to get the skinny on each of these strong and beautiful, yet broken individuals who have found their other halves. Their stories will engulf and amaze you.

Shattered Ice has to be the most heart-breaking of the three so far. Ms Jay wrote for Kai a childhood that broke my heart more than I could ever have imagined, even knowing what we did of him from the first two books. Most of all though, we knew him as a good man, and someone who was absolutely there for his team mates, all while remaining an island unto himself. He hid all emotion, and kept his private life locked down tighter than Fort Knox.

What intrigued me most about the blurb was that Charlotte, Charlie Green had met Kai before he joined the Chicago Fury. There is a beautiful side to Kai that we didn’t know about, and I couldn’t fall in love with a broken character more than I have for this man created in the mind of Monty Jay. She is a genius. Monty Jay's writing style is visually inciting and uniquely poetic. A reader falls in love with the story as a whole, as much as the characters themselves.

Charlie was perfect for Kai. She was eclectic, energetic, and dressed with a punk influence, having maintained a blue head of hair since her early teens. Music was her life and she’d always marched to the beat of her own drum. She heard it vibrate through everything. She was bravery, although in slowly losing her mother to Alzheimer's disease, her biggest fear was the loss of her memories should she suffer the same fate. As she ran through life, a polaroid camera was her constant companion, something that Kai found endlessly endearing.

She was beauty and music, he was stoicism and pain, yet together I could almost believe that all would magically be right in the world. As if only things could be that simple.

I believe that this is Monty Jay’s best book yet. Thankfully, I also know she hasn’t finished with the series, so I’m already looking forward to her next one, because from Love and Hockey, through Ice Hearts and now Shattered Ice, Ms Jay has entrenched herself firmly in my list of must one-click authors. Absolutely 5 stars 🖤

This is one of those special reads that stays with you long after the final words have been read. It’s an emotional read that’s beautifully written and Shattered Ice ( Fury #3) touched me on so many levels.
Kai and Charlotte are two broken souls and they find strength in the dark relationship they share, the love they have for each other not only gives them strength, it also bonds them together, the chemistry is intense and extremely hot but it was the emotion that came across with every word Monty Jay wrote that took this book to another level.
This book ticked all my boxes, I cried as I got drawn into the horror Kai went through as a child, I loved the characters, their story and I loved watching Charlotte become Kai’s light at the end of the tunnel. This hook shows us two broken souls can become soulmates and there is always light if you have your true love in your life.
If you love dark romance this gem should certainly be on you TBR list.

This book was devastatingly perfect. Tears were shed, my emotions ripped from my soul for Malakai and Charlotte.

Such a beautiful story of two old souls coming together working through the pain of past history and finally finding peace with the other.

Monty absolutely shattered me with this book, it's the first I have read from her and just from this one book I know she will be an automatic one click for me.

If you love stories of fallen souls in need of healing and an exquisite love so beautiful in its raw state you need to pick up this book.

Loved every moment I spent reading this, 5 stars and I'm so glad to have found a new Author.

Review
I loved this book! I read it feverishly, and at the same time I didn’t want to finish it. I loved coming back to the Chicago Fury hockey world, where Bishop and Valor, Nico and Aurelia live, and now read about Malakai. He was the mysterious one with the enigmatic expression, a loner, one who didn’t want to socialize. I was dying to learn his story and here it is. This story made me cry, there are some very sad parts, but it also made me glad, because Malakai deserved happiness and Charlie is an outstanding young woman who deserved an awesome guy like him.

Charlie and Emerson are twins, with a mother interned in a home suffering Alzheimers disease. Charlie is hurt because her mother already forgot her and only remembers Emerson. Emerson is part of the Chicago Fury, and is under the strain of his mother’s illness and paying for the very expensive nursing home. His choice of escape is booth and drugs and Charlie can’t stand to see her twin and her mother, it’s too hard. This part saddened me a lot.

One of the things I loved most in this story is when Malakai and Charlie meet. She’s walking around and sees this street art on the side of the building, and is so mesmerized that she stumbles and almost falls into a busy street. She thinks she’s going to die and when Malakai grabs her she thinks he’s Jesus. The imprint they make on each other in this scene is destiny personified and it felt like soulmates meeting, it was so ethereal.

“Still, there was something compelling about her. Extremely intelligent, witty, funny, and she seemed to understand things on a deeper wavelength than the average stranger.”

At the time they met, Malakai was twenty-one and Charlie sixteen. The impression they make on each other is long lasting and when they meet again, several years years later, they have a clear idea who each other is. But Malakai feels threatened, because Charlie comes to live with him and Emerson and she’s a menace to his isolation.

“Someone hurt him, badly. Someone had taken his trust in others and spit on it. It's why he prefers being alone, why he's so quiet.”

From this moment on, it’s a joy to read how Charlie breaches all his defenses, and it’s beautiful to see Malakai open his heart and his mind to this rock punk girl who cleans his soul. Malakai was sexually abused as a child and forced to do nefarious acts and he feels unclean. The fact that this tiny human has so much presence, so much life and instills so much joy in him is a miracle. She gave him a redemption he sorely needed.

As in all life, there are issues that bring them down, Charlie and Emerson have issues and it all turns horrible before it turns beautiful. There’s several moments of heartbreak where I couldn’t help crying. This book took me through all the feels, laughter, fun and sadness and I loved every word! All the other books have been fantastic, angsty and sweet, but with this one the author threw it out of the park!

“My brother was a drug addict, but he was also an amazing brother. A great hockey player, a guy with a contagious laugh, someone who is loyal to a fault, and I’m lucky to have him in my life.” Next book is Emerson’s and it promises to be a beaut!

Malaki aka Kai is the mysterious quiet giant and extremely talented goalie for The Fury. He is everyone's rock and is there for them to help them battle their demons. He is the big brother and mentor everyone leans on when they need it the most. But who is there for Kai? Charlotte aka Lottie after a chance encounter with a street artist that she dubs The Fallen Angel, she has decided that she must attend college in Chicago so that she can see his art again and maybe him as well. When she is forced to move in with her brother at his teammate's house she ends up spending more time with Malakai than she does her own brother. And she when she sees Malakai unlike anyone as before they both can't stay away from each other. Despite his demons and the fact that Charlotte's brother would lose his mind.

Kai's story broke my heart. I was crying before the end of the prologue and new that this book was once again not what I was expecting at all. Kai has his demons but Charlotte calms them, silences them and makes Kai feel things he didn't think he was capable of. I loved how Charlotte could see him and she was able to make the quiet giant shed his mask with her. Charlotte was light and fun and happiness - the exact opposite to Kai and exactly what he needed - despite all the dark that she had going on in her life too. I loved these two so much. I loved that they both balanced the other and was their strength when needed. While I love Kai and Charlotte and their story, I felt that the growth of their relationship was glossed over. It was just summarized for us after it happened. The book was on the shorter side so I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see their relationship develop more. With all that was going on this one it had the opportunity to bring more light to the heavy of this book. And this one deals with a few heavy topics. But that being said, I still really enjoyed Kai and Charlotte. I cannot recommend this series enough.

Malakai is a NHL goalie for the Chicago Fury and if you’re going into this expecting Malakai to be just another hockey player you couldn’t be more wrong. He is so much more than that. Malakai is originally from Russia and his story is heartbreaking. His childhood has left its mark on him and when the ties that have been keeping him in Russia are no longer there, Malakai finds himself living in a new country where he’s the one in control of his life. Malakai is the quiet one, the one who keeps to himself and doesn’t let anyone get too close and once you know his past it’s easy to understand his way of thinking. He’s got that mysterious, broody vibe down to a fine art but at the same time there’s a vulnerability about him that drew me to him. His first interaction with Charlotte had me more than intrigued. You can feel this connection, this energy between them straightaway, it’s impossible to ignore. Charlotte is the sister of Malakais team mate/ friend and she’s the light to Malakai’s dark. I absolutely loved her. She’s super smart, kind, caring, strong...honestly there wasn’t anything about her that I didn’t like.

I’ve become a huge fan of Monty Jay in a short period of time and with each book she impresses me more. Malakai’s story is raw, it’s beautifully written and it had me completely engrossed before I’d even finished the prologue. I loved Malakai and Charlotte, the chemistry between them is hot but it was the genuine connection they shared that I couldn’t get enough of. I practically inhaled this book. There’s so much to love about Shattered Ice, the Jesus moment in particular was a favourite of mine, and if youre like me and like a book that has you feeling ALL the feels, this is definitely one you should try.

I have absolutely loved the Fury series so far. For a first time author, the first 2 books were incredible and I was super excited for Shattered Ice.

I will admit, Shattered Ice ended up being a little different to what I expected. From the very first moment we were introduced to Kai, I was super curious about him and it only grew once I read Niko and Rigg's book. I must have a thing for the strong and silent types because I seem to always be so addicted to them.

"I wouldn't want my sister near a serial killer, he might eat her."Emerson laughs, "Charlie usually goes for guys with a little more life about them. No offense, Kai, but you remind me of a corpse."

That is basically all we know about Kai. He is the one who seems to hate everyone. Very rarely smiles. And the one who the others call a silent killer. Joking of course. But at the same time, no one is quite sure.

Kai's story was absolutely heartbreaking. I knew he was going to have a dark past and that is exactly what we got. His childhood was not a childhood and it broke my heart.

Shattered Ice, like the other 2 books, was a great story. I really enjoyed it, although a tad predictable at times, and I felt so many different emotions while reading it. If I am honest, it was a little on the insta love side And their relationship was very fast moving once it got started.A
I will tell you one thing. Monty Jay knows how to throw in some serious heart wrenching moments that make you feel like your heart is being ripped out!!!

Emerson. I need his book!!! There is clearly a story there and I need it!!! Just the title of his book has the theories forming in my head!!!!! I cannot wait!!!

This is the third book from Monty Jay and at some point im going to stop being unprinted by how incredible she is. Then again probably not.

Shattered Ice destroyed me.

The past couple of book Kai has been this super quiet mysterious guy. In Shattered Ice we get to know him and dammit if my heart doesn't bleed for this man. His life hasn't been easy and he uses his art to express himself. Sure he's an incredible goalie but man his art sounds incredible. Im almost pissed off he's not a real person because I'd love to see his work.

Charlotte is the twin sister of Kai's teammate and roommate Emerson. She's a genius and hella quirky, you'll love her. She met Kai by chance when she was 16 and he saved her life, though she wasn't paying attention to where she was walking as he was completely engrossed him his street art. She never thought she'd see him again and then she did.

This love story is so absolutely breathtaking. As much as Kai doesn't think he deserves love Charlotte loves him even more. He may fight the way he feels for her but dude its plain as day with the little things. Ans I loved them, I'm a little things person. Sure grand gestures are nice and all but the little things are what make me swoon. Which is probably a good thing for my husband ha!

I received this free eARC novel from the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions. This is my honest review.

I have been intrigued about Kai for a very long time. Silent, brooding, mysterious. I would have never imagined the nightmare that was his past and how much he had overcome his demons. He thinks he's still a monster, but he has grown into an amazing man who just needed to find the person to accept and love him for who he is and not judge him for a past that was beyond his control.

Charlotte is quirky and unique. She doesn't let her protégé life define herself but she is on her own mission to find the life that she wants. But she's overcome with fear that she will get the same disease her mother has and I feel that she is stopping herself from really becoming who she really wants.

Seeing these two interact, getting to know each other, breaking down each other's walls... it's hopefully and real and intense. I don't think I've ever been so enamored with two characters as I was with these two. They are deep and intense, serious yet hopeful, and I honestly did not expect any of this when I started this book.

I've come to really appreciate and love the books in this series because it is not just a sports romance novel. These characters have a lot of suffering to overcome and that shows that anyone can be hurting at any given time, and it doesn't matter what they do or how they act, we are all just human.

I'm so glad I got the chance to discover this book this series and this author.

Kai is a man with so many parts as he protects the goal for his hockey team, is a great teammate and a loyal friend who would do anything to help those he cares about without any regard to the consequences to himself. He also hides a devastating past, so he allows few people close and even with those he holds something back or at least he did until Charlotte.

Charlotte is the sister of Kai’s roommate, teammate and best friend. She is an accomplished violinist who has a past of her own that she is trying to overcome, and she too puts everyone else first. She and Kai share an abbreviated past that had long reaching effects on both of them and now that fate has brought them together, she is determined to have a future with this complex man.

Charlotte is fire while Kai is ice so although they shouldn’t work together, they are exactly what the other needs. There is no denying the physical connection between them, but it is the emotional connection that makes their story so special.

5 star review Shattered Ice Hearts (Fury series #3) by Monty Jay
Monty Jay is a relatively new author and I have to say I found Shattered Ice to be well written, with characters whose story you cannot help but become invested in. This was an entertaining and at times emotional read that had me riveted from the first to the last chapter.
This is NHL player Kai and Charlotte’s story and it is darker than the previous books but oh so good. I found the characters had a great deal of depth and I really liked them. My heart just about broke for the horrors that Kai has endured. Kai and Charlotte are two broken souls who come together and heal one another. The journey that Charlotte and Kai travel to get to their happily ever after was one that got to me on a number of levels.
Shattered Ice was a moving story that gave me all the feels. It was wonderful to watch the growth of both Kai and Charlotte as the story progressed and I couldn’t put it down.

This story was harder to get into, but than again, I haven't read the first couple stories in this series..

However, once I got into the the story, I couldn't stop reading..

This book is about the characters passed hardship, loneliness and strength.

Kai is born in a brothel, he now is a hockey player, his passed is always in his mind and has him ruined. Charlotte has also problems with certain family member that has her distraught. Charlotte moves in with her brother and here is there story..

I really loved that Charlotte and Kai understood they couldn't be together at the beginning. I won't mention a lot but I loved that the had some control and knew what they wanted...

I would definitely recommend this book, if you love a brooding hockey player, gripping romance and a happy ending.

Shattered Ice, shattered me.

During the prologue was when this story completely engulfed my emotions. Kai was the broody, quiet one, his secrets hidden behind a mask that no one seemed to notice, until her.

One second and a series of events was all it took for Kai and Charlotte to feel a connection to one another. Their next interaction is when their connection becomes this fierce, burning inferno of 2 souls recognizing one another.

I adored Charlette, she was intelligent, passionate, fiery, full of life and had an incredibly kind soul. She was in the midst of dealing with an array of heartbreaking family situations while spending time with Kai.

The passionate connection between Kai and Charlotte quickly became clear that they were ingrained in each other’s soul. There was heartbreak, angst, and pain that could be felt throughout the pages. There was also healing and heartfelt moments that made my heart soar. A team of hockey players, sharing witty banter, playful jabs, and unyielding loyalty that have created their own family. Kai and Charlotte are my new favorite couple in the Fury family.

Shattered Ice was my first read by Monty Jay, it's the third book in the Fury series, and it won't be my last book by her.

Malakai and Charlotte were perfect for each other and loved their story so much!
The Fallen Angel and his Moon Eyes.
Charlotte was the chaos to his order.
She was the light brush strokes to his dark ones.
She was the music in his life.

My heart hurt so much for Kai, because of his dark childhood.
I wanted to hug Charlotte and telling her that everything will be alright.

The story hold me captivated and I loved every word. I really can recommend this book to you, but there are also some subjects (like rape) that some may find triggering.

Every once in a blue moon you find an author who's work just renders you speechless.... For me, that author is Monty Jay. This is her third release - and if you ask me - it's her BEST release yet!

Throughout the other books, Kai was a mystery. A quiet, brooding mystery. I just knew that once we got his story it was going to blow me away. I was NOT disappointed. His background story was nothing I was expecting, but it explains SO much. I was drawn to this beautifully broken man and it was really hard to not fall in love with him.

Charlotte was everything pure that he needed in his life. I just absolutely LOVED this heroine. I connected with her so much. Watching these two fall in love was an amazing experience - I am jealous of those that get to experience that for the first time!

Definitely go back and read the other two books in this series if you haven't already. Monty Jay is a true gem and I am so freaking happy that 2020 brought her to me. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next. The way she brings these characters to life is just phenomenal. 5 stars for this one.... definitely a TOP READ for me this year.

Whoa! Pretty different and pretty intense. Not very much hockey. I think career is not at all the point. Hard to believe Emerson does get away with what he does as hockey so very demanding physically.
Kai's background very intense. I was unsure if I was going to be able to keep reading if his kink was prevalent in the book. It's not my jam especially as I don't care for the head set people are in to inflict or debase to participate. It is not romance not love but control. Again, not my jam.

So, it's interesting and has hea.

Monty Jay continues to amaze me with her words with Shattered Ice. This is Book 3 in her Fury series and can be read as a standalone. But you MUST go read Love & Hockey and Ice Hearts first! Okay you don't HAVE to but I highly recommend it. You will be floored that L&H is Jay's debut!

Okay. I'm off track! Kai and Charlotte are EVERYTHING. Kai is all things broken and beautiful. His backstory is absolutely heartbreaking but his growth is so rewarding as a reader ❤️

Charlotte is a breath of fresh air. She is the woman Kai didn't know he needed. The love he didn't expect, had never known and was unsure he even deserved.

Shattered Hearts was absolutely everything I needed it to be. Kai makes his debut in Love & Hockey and immediately I needed to know his story. His story is easily one of the best I've read this year. Kai's journey is one you don't want to miss.

Monty Jay is a bright spot in 2020 and easily one of my top new author finds. Her words and stories are a true gift to the indie romance world and I can't wait for more.
