The daily life and world of a house cat, from the moment it’s adopted—told from the cat’s perspective. A long monologue, a comedy of missteps where feline and human viewpoints often coincide, yet give rise to an irresistible, amusing, and passionate tale of love and friendship. It is the author’s love letter—a devoted cat lady’s homage—to the most beautiful animal on earth.
Somewhat expensive, but enjoyable nonetheless. The title is somewhat misleading as it refers to something the 'male, two legs' says when the new kitty scratches him: "God!" The author does depict the adoption of a new kitten to the already two-cat household from the kitten's point of view, and she does it well. Cat people will enjoy the perspective and wholeheartedly agree with the viewpoint. I would give it a 4+ rating, but not all the way to 5 mostly because of the brevity.
A sweet and charming story from the mind of a cat. Beautifully written, with many fun surprises, cat lovers will eat this one up. Religious undertones are present but far from overwhelming. I enjoyed it!
it's a bit short on substance, if you have cats there is nothing new to read, it's all a bit ho hum really. The sad ending seemed to come very quickly and a bit matter of fact, very disappointing overall.

What a gorgeous little book. The hero was such a live wire and you fall in love with him straight away. An absolute must for anyone who has ever had or wants to have a mischievous cat.
I read the hardback version but, could only find the Kindle version on Goodreads. An absolutely incredible book!!! We recently had to put our little black cat, Sabrina (we miss you soooo much!!!), down and this book has helped us heal. THANK YOU, Stefania, for writing such a tender, heartfelt book💕!! It made me smile, laugh and, yes, even cry. I will read it again and again!!! I purchased 12 copies and gave a copy to each of my friends that have and/or love cats and each of them loved it as much as we did.
Stefania describes how a devoted feline becomes a precious part of a human family from the cat’s perspective. Cats are emotional, very self sufficient in many ways at times unpredictable and wildly funny. They are creatures of habit that desire close relationships with their “chosen ones” sometimes persistently demanding and other times warm bundles of purring joy. Anyone who has raised a cat can relate to Stefania’s perceptions she experienced throughout the process of raising, assimilating, growing to love them and learning to accept that their family feline can love ❤️ you back absolutely!
This is a short, sweet memoir told entirely from the POV of a kitten adopted into a home that already has two cats. We follow his whole life, from confused newcomer to beloved family member, right up to his passing. The world is just a normal house, but seeing everything through his eyes - the mysterious “two-legs,” the routines, the other cats - makes it feel like a new experience. Just a quiet, observant journey of how a bond forms ... the secret inner life of cats, the funny and profound love we share with them, and eventually, how we cope with losing them.
The cat's perspective is the entire show, and I think this was a universally relatable perspective. I’ve lived with cats almost my whole life, and I found myself thoughtfully comparing the cats in this book to my own, especially for the sad parts. The emotional punch is real. I went in expecting cute fluff (and it is that), but the ending got me... it made me think about when we had to put our cat Macaroon to sleep because of cancer, and think about how someday (sooner than I am ready for) I will have to do the same with Bonnie who has been moving around a lot less in her older age.
Although the ending hit hard, I wish it had a bit more heft throughout. It’s so short that it feels like a vignette rather than a fully fleshed-out narrative. Also, I see what other critics mean about the title/religious hint. The “God” bit feels a bit outsized for the actual content. While it didn’t bother me much, It was a bit off-putting, as the book’s real strength is its earthy, daily warmth, not in theological pondering.
This is a deeply niche read. I liked it because I’m a cat person. I’m not sure the humor or the emotional beats would land at all for someone who isn’t. This isn’t a literary heavyweight or a complex saga but it is not trying to be. It’s a tender, lighthearted, but surprisingly poignant imagining of a cat’s heart and mind. The chapters are short, the voice is charming, and you can feel the author’s genuine love for her subjects on every page. I think it achieved exactly what was billed: a heartfelt and relatable reflection on life with a feline friend.
This book was a short, quick read. and honestly, It took me about an hour from start to finish, and it was the kind of read that sneaks up on you in the best way.
The narrating cat had me smiling almost immediately. As someone who’s shared life with more than one cat, I couldn’t help but think about my own and all the little shenanigans they pulled over the years. The thoughts, the attitude, and the confidence all felt very familiar. I found myself thinking, Yep, that’s exactly what my cat would've said if they could talk. I have to imagine that if my cats really did have a voice, it would have sounded very much like the one guiding this story.
What made the book especially fun was experiencing life from a feline point of view. Seeing everyday moments reframed through a cat’s logic, and ego, was both amusing and relatable. It’s lighthearted, clever, and full of those small observations that make cat people nod along in agreement.
Overall, this was a quick, cute read that delivered humor and heart. If you love cats, or have ever wondered what they really think about us, this one is well worth the hour it takes to read.
This was pretty terrible. Sappy and elementary writing - though it's supposed to be written by a cat so.... it was successful on that front I guess. The best part of this book was the title and I wish the book had been a few levels higher and dealt with this cats existential crisis of "who is God?" because that could have been interesting. This book is marketed as an adult book but really it's very much a child's book for the reading level and content. It has potential to be insightful about the mind of a cat but languished in the super easy and surface level. "I'm hungry, put food in my bowl, I'm lost, I'm sad" generally boring. Conceptually it was on to something but needed a lot more depth to be anything more than a cheap kids book. If you want a book with insightful cat monologue and more depth, read Gwen Cooper's Love Saves the Day - it's excellent.
A little disappointed with this read. It's a lovely little book visually appealing but I found it to not actually be that emotional. I certainly didn't laugh out loud or bawl my eyes out as some readers have. Having recently lost a beloved cat I really thought this would have me reaching for the tissues. I guess it was obvious from the title it would have a religious bent, which I'm not entirely accepting of. It is very short with very short chapters...without the gaps it would probably be even shorter and it is quite expensive even in paperback form. All in all worth a view but not a favourite cat book. I found " Love saves the day" and "Homers Odyssey" by Gwen Cooper to be much more enjoyable.
I am a cat person and I seem to attract the neighborhood cats. Therefore, this short memoir of a cat and its experiences with two-legged humans peeked my interest. I loved the cat’s perspective of its life starting from adoption. This book had me laughing, gasping, and wanting to snuggle my kitties just a little more. The last chapter, even though endearing, was not the ending I wanted. A great short read.
We allowed our human to read Maybe I’m Not God, and she promptly burst into tears. It’s a deeply accurate portrayal of feline brilliance, if far too short. Come read our full, judgment-laced review on her blog (we let her post under her name, but make no mistake—it’s ours). https://themagicfarawaytreenet.wordpr...
Written by a cat lover and for cat lovers. Seems like she aims to convert others, but I'm not sure about that. A lot of the jokes won't be understood by humans who have never had the privilege to serve a cat. The friend who recommended it (and who is not a crier) said she was in tears. I thought, nah, me? Never... well, the ending was really very touching. I do hope it's true.
A quick read. This was a really cute book of a cat's life as told through his imagined thoughts. I like cats and certain parts made me laugh or consider things from their (possible) perspective in a way I hadnt really thought about before. Overall I would recommend this to any cat-lover. It's basically cute fluff.
A day in the life of a cat from its perspective beginning with the day it’s adopted to the end of its life. Its owners (referred to as two-legs) have two other cats as well that become part of its new family. It is an amusing account of what this charming cat might think about day-to-day human actions and how it becomes endeared to them.
It seems funny at the beginning but story is not as interesting as seems. No much happening and very sad endings. I'd recommend the autor to write a book two with continuation the atory after life or return back to family. Otherwise, what's the point of this story?
Sweet fast read of life through the eyes of the cat.
The two legs (humans) kidnap the kitten from his mama. They adopted him . He is little and distrustful, basically learning about life. There are two other cats in his new home and Mimi reminds him of his mama. There are some very funny moments and very sad ones as well.
A lovely read, I read it so quickly and easily could have read more. I cried many times and felt lots of warmth in my heart. all of my cats felt connected to this main cat, and that brought smiles and sadness as well. I know my boys would have loved this book. My little panther queen certainly loved being my reading buddy 💜
The cat narrates what his feeling throughout the entire book. It’s an interesting perspective on how a cat might feel about the human world. It’s a great description of what the emotions of a cat might be. Good book for cat lovers!
Beautifully written from the view of a fun loving cat. Made me laugh out loud and made me cry whilst sat in a restaurant waiting for my husband. Loved this book.
