To the world, Blaze Raveneaux is a reclusive museum curator. In reality, he’s the harbinger of war. After searching centuries for his gladius sword Slayfire, a blade that can destroy immortal beings, including the Horsemen, he’s finally located it. But his plan to spend the night drinking beer, polishing steel, and stabbing stuff––not necessarily in that order––is derailed. Thanks in part to one curvy, interfering, pain-in-the-ass woman, Slayfire is stolen. Now Blaze has to find the gladius and protect the mortal beauty. He’s not sure which scares him more, knowing an apocalypse is brewing or that she touches his long-guarded heart. And to him, that’s more dangerous than dying.
Moxie Hamilton is the go-to girl in New Orleans for procuring valuable must-haves. But her finder’s fees, while nothing to sneeze at, barely make ends meet. Between paying her bills and funding her cat sanctuary, she needs a high-paying gig. Bidding on some bejeweled sword for a mysterious high-roller seems easy enough––until it’s stolen from the auction before she, or the hot-as-hell stranger who claims it’s his, can grab it. He’s crazy if he thinks she isn’t going after that sword, even if that means spending time with him. With that burning gaze and crooked smile, he’s the kind of man she should avoid. He makes her yearn for what she’ll never have. Besides, maybe he is crazy, warning of demons and Horsemen…until she witnesses what no mere human should ever see and becomes a pawn in a hellish game.
Sons of Armageddon: Book 2 by Harlowe Wilde Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Blaze, the God of War, is on a mission to find the Slayfire sword, a weapon capable of destroying immortals, including the horsemen themselves. Enter Moxie, a woman with a dream of opening a cat sanctuary, who finds herself entangled in a high-stakes adventure when she is tasked with recovering an item to pay off a debt. What begins as a straightforward mission soon spirals into a dangerous and thrilling journey that will change both their lives forever. Right from the first page, Sons of Armageddon: Book 2 grabs you with its action-packed opening. As someone who prefers stories that don’t waste time with long character buildup, I appreciated how quickly the book jumped into the action. The fast pace continues throughout the story, but the author does a fantastic job of weaving in character depth and backstory without losing the momentum. Blaze and Moxie are both strong, well-developed characters with their own internal struggles, which made them feel authentic and relatable, even in a world full of gods and dangerous missions. The dual timeline structure, alternating between Blaze’s past and the present, adds an intriguing layer to the narrative. It allowed for a deeper understanding of Blaze’s character and motivations while keeping the plot moving forward. While the transitions between past and present could have been disorienting, they were handled seamlessly, and I found it easy to follow along. The story also delves into some darker themes as Moxie faces dangerous enemies, adding a sense of tension and urgency to the plot. One of the strengths of the book is its ability to balance moments of suspense with emotional depth. Blaze’s and Moxie’s personal struggles are explored thoughtfully, and their growing relationship adds an emotional core to the action-heavy story. There are some unexpected twists that keep the plot exciting, though thankfully, it doesn’t leave you with a cliffhanger, which I appreciated. Overall, Sons of Armageddon: Book 2 is an enjoyable and engaging read, with a perfect blend of action, character development, and emotional stakes. If you’re a fan of fast-paced urban fantasy with supernatural elements, this book delivers. While it’s part of a series, it works well as a standalone, making it accessible to new readers. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment, Bend, and diving deeper into this world.
Blister, Book 2 of the Sons of Armegeddon series by by Harlowe Wild, was worth waiting for. Blaze, the War horseman, is a no-nonsense immortal, focused on maintaining the balance between good and evil. He’s finally found his original sword, Slayfire, and he’s determined to buy it back at auction. He wins the bid, but a hired bidder waylays him on the way to pick up his prize. Moxie tries, and fails, to convince Blaze to let her have the prized weapon. The sword is stolen before they can finish their argument, and the race is on. More excellent writing, a surprise resolution, and well-drawn hero and heroine, and you have the makings of an excellent read. Though this is book two in the series, it stands alone on its merits. Looking forward to Book 3!
