Bryson- What were they thinking? I thought I had my life all figured out—five-year career plan, ten-year personal plan. But all that shatters when my best friend and her husband die in a car accident. When I agreed to be the guardian for their baby, I never imagined I’d become a single dad to a six-month old. I’m supposed to be the one who spoils her rotten and sends her home, not the one responsible for raising her. I love my goddaughter, but I don’t know the first thing about babies. Worse? I’m not Chloe’s only guardian. Her Uncle Tucker is my complete opposite, but the terms of the will are we have joint guardianship. How am I supposed to navigate the chaos of caring for a baby with a free-spirited world traveler who thinks I’m a stick in the mud? Seriously, what were they thinking? Raising a baby wasn’t part of the plan, but now we’re both determined to raise Chloe to the best of our abilities. Unfortunately, our talents aren’t at all aligned, and we’re both in way over our heads. Not to mention this pesky attraction to Tucker I’m trying my best to fight.
Dad News is a small town, single dad(s), opposites attract, terms of the will MM romance.
This is a nice story. My only issue is that there was such a slow burn with these guys that by the time they got together, the book was almost over. When they did get together, it was super sweet, but I feel that it should've happened much sooner. Even so, I enjoyed it.
Bryson's best friend Brooke and her husband are killed in a car accident. Bryson is now the guardian to Brooke and Zack's six-month-old daughter. Bryson doesn't know that Zack's brother, Tucker, is also her guardian. Things between Bryson and Tucker don't start well, but through their love for the baby, they work.
I hate when romance stories start off with the death of people close to an MC because the grieving (if done properly) takes a very long time and requires a delicate balance between sorrow + comfort to show the actual romancing that authors rarely achieve. It's either too focused on the sorrow, making the romance feel like a side dish rather than the main course, or it's too focused on the romance, cheapening the emotional impact of the sudden loss of a supposedly important figure.
Not only did this story not give the grief proper time to play out (making Bryson's best friend's OR Tucker's brother's deaths feel like a minor inconvenience as opposed to the earth shattering events they should've been), it almost brushes it off comically. The line that got me to DNF was from the dead couple's neighbor: "And you must be Zach's brother. You look just like him, but even more handsome." It's been what, like a couple of days at most since they found out Zach died, and this is how she greets his brother?
And instead of getting mad at the lack of respect for his brother's memory or becoming sad at the thought of him, Tucker chuckles and welcomes her into the house.
WTF?
I already accepted that the grief wasn't properly going to be dealt with given how little Bryson had actually thought about his friend (or even cried about her), but Tucker laughing at a joke someone made about him being more handsome than his recently deceased brother was too much.
Plus, I'm already 20% in and there's zero hint of romance between the leads outside of the prologue. Almost fifth of the book about a love story with two men trying to raise the child of their dead loved ones doesn't have serious grief or romance because it was spent showing Bryson's relationship with his best friend then picking up their baby from the hospital, then trying to take care of the baby. The lack of romance would've been excusable if Bryson or Tucker were actually trying to work through their grief because at least there would've been some emotion to latch onto, but the lack of either grief or romance meant that the first fifth of the book was basically just a long exposition.
This was the perfect book. Exactly what I needed to get out of the book slump I was in. This was sweet with its serious. It was kinda an enemies to more but not completely which was perfect for my reading. For those who don’t like kid centered story this is focused on kids. Them trying to navigate how to take care of a baby while also grieving and finding love. I love how T had patience for B and loved all of B without trying to “fix” him. I love how B adored T’s easiness on life. The writing was great, the author did well in getting you to feel their emotions. The smexy was Hawt the build up to it was chefs kiss, exactly what I needed. Found family was sweet (shout out to my home town Cbus) and I can’t wait to read the other Dad’s stories. I don’t usually read shorter stories like this but the author made me forget the page numbers and I didn’t feel like the story was missing anything. Only point off for lack of diversity so far. Hopefully we will see a diverse Dad’s group.
For future me: Dual POV No cheating or sharing No om/ow Strict roles on page Relationship/friendship before smexy Needs diversity
This is one of the most boring "romance" books I have ever read. The prologue gives some backstory, then from chapter one onward it is just two men raising a baby, mostly from Bryson's point of view. I would not classify this as an actual romance, but rather a hectic story about people raising a child. You expect their to be a lot of parenting talk obviously as thats the plot to the book but there is zero chemistry or romance between the characters, more like good acquaintances.
It starts with a terrible tragedy that forces the two great MCs together. Each has his own foibles that could cause clashes, but instead these are two people willing to understand and grow together for the sake of the child. The only thing that made me uncomfortable was the speed of the recovery after the tragedy. It all seemed to happen too fast, but the love story was deep and rich.
This is an Amazing book I love Single Dads and this heartbreaking story was a great read Bryson and Tucker are thrown together to look after Chloe after Tuckers brother and Brysons best friend were killed in a car accident the story shows how they manage to get to know each other and how they look and care for Chloe.
Although the beginnings start off sadly, this book is about two completely different people coming together for an excellent reason and in the end finding something so very special.
A sweet and sad story. A slow burn romance that brings two people together because of a vey sad circumstance. Good book, I wish there was more though, I’m greedy ;) Great characters and I’m glad they got their happy!
Although I found this a delightful read it was at times a wee bit drawn out, but in an adorable way. Two men trying to raise a sweet little baby girl, I mean what could be more gorgeous! It was a lovely read.
I was really hoping for more emotion but it wasn't at least at the start when I expected the most. I usually like this author but this one was a bit not for me.
