I’ve spent my whole life playing by the rules. It’s time to break a few…
Work hard. Do the right thing. Be a good girl. That’s how I survived growing up with a scandal-magnet mother and a brother who treated troublemaker like a part-time job. I thought if I followed the rules, I could outrun the chaos.
For the most part, I have. Being mayor of Skylark is everything to me, and I want to belong here. But competence and responsibility aren’t the crowd-pleasing campaign qualities that will get me re-elected in this small town.
So I sign up for a dance class, determined to show everyone this good girl knows how to have fun. Then he walks in.
Jake Byrne. The reckless rule-breaker who ruined my family’s reputation and broke my heart.
I hate him. Obviously.
But hating is a lot harder with his body pressed against mine, moving like we’re made for each other. Turns out, Jake isn’t just gorgeous. He’s charming, perceptive, and what’s worse? He makes me feel. Everything.
And when he kisses me, I shatter right along with the rules.
Just when I start to believe in second chances, a scandal from my past threatens our future. Jake swears he’s in this for real—but I’ve been burned before. Trusting him might be the biggest temptation of all.
USA Today and Top 5 Amazon Bestselling author Michelle Major writes swoon-worthy stories full of heart, heat, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters. When she’s not dreaming up romance, you’ll find her hiking the trails (or avoiding housework) in her home state of Colorado.
4.25 ⭐️s I loved this book and this authors writing. Our FMC, Iris, is the appointed interim mayor of the small town of Skylark. She is running to become the elected mayor but most of the town sees her as a “stick in the mud” “no fun” mayor. To show the town that she can have fun and to gain votes she decides to sign up for dance classes and perform at the towns Fun Fest. Should be fun and easy right??? In walks Jake, her brother’s former best friend as well as her former crush. It’s been 10 years since they have seen each other yet the electricity is still there, but how can that be after everything that happened all those years ago! Can they let go of the past or will their secrets come back to hurt them?
What to expect ❤️small town romance ❤️enemies to lovers ❤️forced proximity ❤️Found Family ❤️He Falls First ❤️Second Chances ❤️He’s got a secret
This was such a cute read. I adored everything about this book. This is the second book in this series, different main characters but interconnected. My favorite thing about this book is that even though it was a cute romance with some spice there were a lot of meaningful conversations and underlying topics. The found family in this book is so special and I loved the friendship and family dynamics in this book. Not to mention each book follows one of the ladies in a book club! How can you not want to read it? Highly recommend!
3.5 rounded. i was really excited to have a second book in this series. i think the small town of Skylark is really cute and definitely gives those hallmark vibes. michelle does a really good job of writing romance that isn’t cheesy and is actually great writing! i didn’t care for this plot line as much as the first in the series. i just really loved the first one so this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me
🤎 Small Town Romance 🔥 He Falls First 🤎 Found Family 🔥 Enemies to Lovers 🤎 Second Chances
The book club is back! Iris has been elected as interim mayor of Skylark and is on a mission to be more “fun” but is struggling. Desperate to shake things up and “lighten up” she decides to take up ballroom dancing with her mentor. At her first class, in walks Jake, her new dance partner, that is distractingly hot. Which complicates things a bit, as he is her brother’s former best friend and her former crush which definitely makes things awkward. Iris is determined to stay focused and not let Jake and his dangerously attractive muscles, or his overwhelming charm distract her from her objective…fun. After all, choices were made, and lines were drawn that changed everything.
It’s been 10 years; how can she still be so drawn to him? Surely, he doesn’t still think about her…
Yet he does, he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about her. Jake is determined to make up for his choices and finally tell the truth. The only problem is there are more secrets now and it might tear them apart for good. Is there more to Jake than him simply returning to reunite with his grandfather and support their foundation? What has Jake been up to the last 10 years? Iris quickly finds herself having fun when she’s around Jake and wonders if there is a chance, if they could really work this time. Is there more to him than he lets on? Iris is determined to find out. Is Iris hiding something?
From a kiss that takes your breath away, to over-the-top banter, you can’t help but root for them. Their story is filled with passion, questions, self-doubt and too many secrets – but can they overcome it all?
*I would like to say how grateful I am to Michelle Major for allowing me the pleasure to read Someone to Tempt as an arc in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review. I absolutely LOVED Iris and Jake’s story and could not put it down. I cannot wait for the next one in the series.
Small Town Enemies to lovers Second chance Forced proximity
Iris is the headstrong mayor of Skylark, Colorado determined to change the public’s view of her being “rigid.” Along the way, she runs into Jake, a former flame turned enemy. Jake is back in town, determined to take over his grandpa’s foundation instead of his father. When the two are forced to work together to achieve their own goals, things heat up…
A phenomenal, heartfelt read. I love this author’s work. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the ARC team!!! ❤️
This story is the second book in The Skylark series, and it does not disappoint! Iris Dixon is the Mayor of Skylark, Colorado and cares about the community, but doesn’t seem to know how to have fun. It is easier and safer for her to keep everything at arm’s length and ignore what she doesn’t want to deal with. Jake Byrnes is “hot” but has a reputation for being lazy and a good-for-nothing rich boy who lives off his trust fund. And now, he’s back in Skylark. Jake turned Iris’s life upside down when they spent one summer together when they were teenagers. There was an accident that summer that changed both their lives. The accident involved Iris’s brother Nick and Iris has been blaming Jake for what happened to her brother since that time. Jake has let the past overshadow everything since that time because he didn’t appreciate being constantly compared to his brother who died. The attraction between Iris and Jake is still electrifying, but they both have secrets they’ve been keeping. Will their secrets prevent them from getting their happily-ever-after? You need to read this heartwarming story about friends and family, and the courage to put the past behind you in order to start over and have the life you want. I received an advance copy of this from the author for my voluntary review.
The two MC came back to the small town of Skylark for in a sense similar reasons. To repair the damage that they left behind and to prove to others they were something. Iris Dixon’s mother cause hell and fury in every place they had been when she and her twin brother Nick were growing up. Skylark was no exception and even now coming back years later, Iris still had to fight not only the reputation her mother had left behind but also the anger felt by many residents. Being the town’s appointed mayor, she thought was a good start but when the book club ladies told her she needed to loosen up a bit Iris might have bitten off more than she could chew, especially with dance class. The reason her “partner” Jake Byrne, her teenage crush and brother’s bff that had cause part of the family being ruined back then. Can she work through everything, including a scandal of her own, find love and get elected as the mayor or will she take an offer and just run away.
Jake Byrne has one purpose when coming back to town, win over his grandpa and get named as the head of the family foundation. He is not the teenager who cause havoc anymore. Then when that is said and done he will take it to Austin, Texas and keep the secret he has safe. But when he meets up with Iris again at the dance class his grandfather is forcing him to go to, will he be able to see that the connection they had back then is still there and maybe he doesn’t need to have secrets anymore.
This is the second book in the Skylark series and is a book you can’t put down. With the secrets, love, history and more it catches you up in this amazing world that the author has spun together. Now there is one thing that really stook out and that is the mention of Everclear. It made me laugh so hard because not many will truly understand that, let alone live through it (and maybe even remember what happened if they did manage to drink it). Even writing this part took me a few minutes because I keep laughing.
Thanks to author for an ARC of this book for my honest opinion
I have been eagerly awaiting the second in the Skylark series and Iris and Jake do not disappoint!!
Iris is the interim mayor of Skylark and is up for re election. Living in a town built with the reputation of being fun, she is trying to balance reality and whimsy. The problem is, Iris is not fun. She is determined to prove she can have fun, tick off her bucket list challenge and win the town over. Enter Jake Byrne, the last person she wanted to see from her past. Forget that he is stupidly handsome, charming and extremely rich, Iris still holds a massive grudge for an incident that happened a long time ago. Jake is back to take over his grandfathers foundation but when he almost runs over Iris, he makes it his goal to win back the girl he has loved since she was 17.
My heart broke for poor Iris. Growing up with her flimsy mother and a brother who was having trouble keeping himself on the tracks, she has always had to be smart and sensible. She has never had time for fun when there is life to be organised. I love that Jake broke down her walls and showed her that fun is more about the people you are with rather than the activity. She was really sensitive when her barriers broke and you really understood the reasons why she puts up a front to protect herself.
Jake you beautiful man!!! I loved that he has loved Iris for so long, he lets her be herself and never tries to change her. His little secrets he has hidden away were a really fun twist and showed a much more mature side to what he lets people see. His grief over his brother and the rift it left in his family was so sad but I adored the relationship he had with his grandfather it was really beautiful.
Iris and Jake were actually a lot more similar than you originally think, both putting on a mask for the world just in different ways, but they needed each other as a reminder to show up as yourself.
As always, the girl group was so fabulous and supportive (may have cried at one point but that’s neither here nor there) and then some new characters made their way in that I am VERY intrigued about.
While I adored these characters, I’m not so sure I adored the book quite as much, which made it difficult to rate. Overall, I did like the book. Would I read it again? Maybe if I’m re-reading the series once it’s all done…but probably not as a standalone. I ADORE this friend group/book club/group of girlfriends. They are THE BEST! I love their support of one another, the tough love when needed, the distraction and pick-me-ups when needed, the sarcasm and fun-loving. I love it all. I was absolutely heartbroken for both the FMC Iris and MMC Jake with their pasts and the trauma they dealt with as a result. They both internalized a lot of it, shoved down their feelings until forced to deal with them, took on blame for things they shouldn’t have, and were left feeling unworthy of love, happiness, and success in life. It was so sad to read, but it also is what made them real and relatable I’m sure to many readers including myself. I loved how they were just about the only people in each others’ lives that they just naturally could be themselves with. They had such playful flirty banter in the beginning, which turned into some sexy chemistry, and ultimately a vulnerable friendship & true unconditional love. Their journey was beautiful. One of my biggest issues was that it was an extremely slow burn to me. And the 3rd act drama was VERY late in the book, so we literally got a page of them back together. The book ended with one of the most beautiful declarations of love. But it ended so abruptly and no epilogue. So I was bummed about that. I enjoyed the first book of this interconnected series a lot more than this one overall. But I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the series and more happily ever after endings!
**NOTE: I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Someone to Tempt is the second title in the Skylark series, featuring Iris, who has been temporarily filling in the mayor’s position but is currently campaigning for the elected position of mayor. Trouble is, she’s not always seen in a positive light by some of the residents because of her financial decisions for Skylark… and there is that old scandal that just keeps popping up. Now, Jake is back in town. Her old crush, the man who is so changed from the boy she once idolized, until one night everything changed. Thanks to her friends in the book club, she’s going to have to get far closer to Jake than she’s comfortable with. She can have fun, she can loosen up, and she’ll prove it in the most heartbreaking ways.
Jake is holding on to secrets. He’s been painted with a brush that doesn’t define him, yet he’s let that impression live on for far too long. While he allows assumptions to flourish, watching Jake and Iris, along with the townsfolk, as well, made for a very emotional and satisfying journey for this couple to find their happy ending… the one that fits them now, no longer defined by the past.
I found Someone to Tempt by Michelle Major to be an emotional, well-written, and eye-opening experience. Found family is often far more than we expect, and that is proven quite deeply in this story. If you love a romance that will touch your heart, make you wonder “what if”, and have secrets finally revealed, then you’d love this one.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Jake Byrne came back to Skylark, MT, the happiest place to live in America, to prove to his grandfather he is the right man to take over the family foundation. He is no longer the irresponsible partier he was in his younger days, and those rumors are no longer true. What he doesn’t expect is the town Mayor, Iris Dixon to be the uptight, straight-laced, rule follower she has become. After years of trying to overcome her mother’s scandal, Iris is still trying to find her way. When she finds out she needs to learn how to have fun, she follows her mentor into a ballroom dance class and decides she can be fun. What she doesn’t expect is Jake Byrne needing a partner in class.
This delightful, warm-hearted, and often funny story about forgiveness and acceptance captivated and enthralled me. The characters Michelle Major creates are people you can make a connection with. They aren’t perfect, but they have qualities that tug at my heartstrings and keep me returning for more. Skylark is a fabulous town, the quirky people are wonderful and enchanting. I loved seeing people from the first book and catching up with their lives. I love that Iris realizes she can be herself, faults and all, and still be accepted by the people of Skylark and the friends she’s developed in her book club. Jake and Iris’ connection was instant, electric, and enduring. I loved watching them struggle with their feelings and then realize what they could have together. Someone To Tempt is the second book in the Skylark series, and I can’t wait to see what the next book brings.
I absolutely loved Iris and Jake’s story! The fact that he calls her a prickly porcupine had me reeling—it’s giving black cat x golden retriever energy, but with a porcupine 😂. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and this book did not disappoint. The witty banter and sizzling chemistry between them were off the charts from the very beginning. This was my second Michelle Major read, and I might’ve loved it even more than Someone to Love!
A little about the story: Iris Dixon is polished, organized, and calculated—but fun? Not exactly. As interim mayor of Skylark, CO, she needs to loosen up and win over the town before the next election. That means finally tackling her book club bucket list item: get back into dancing. But when she signs up for a local dance class, she’s paired with Jake Byrne—her brother’s former best friend and childhood crush, who’s back in town after ten years. The chemistry is still there, but so are the secrets—on both sides. Will they find their way back to each other, or let their pasts get in the way?
The friendships in this book are elite. I loved how Iris’s book club becomes her chosen family—loyal, supportive, and full of heart. Michelle Major’s writing makes you feel like you know these characters, like they’re your own friends, and I can’t wait to keep reading this series to see what other amazing stories unfold.
“Someone to Tempt” is the second book in Michelle Major’s Skylark series, but can certainly be read as a stand-alone as well. In this book, we meet another of the book club members, Iris Dixon. As her bucket list challenge, Iris has announced to the group that she is going to be more fun, starting with taking dance lessons.
At the studio, a none-too-welcome piece of her past, very sexy Jake Byrne, shows up and she finds out that he is going to be her dance partner. They share a brief past, and Jake would love to pick that up again. Iris has other ideas.
Their pasts contain plenty of baggage that they both carry everywhere with them. As the story unfolds, the reader is taken on an emotional (and sometimes physical!) journey with both Iris and Jake. Can they break down the walls that have been standing for years between themselves and other family members? Will Iris succeed in her bucket list “be fun” challenge? Can Jake prove to his grandfather and himself that he has changed and deserves to take his rightful place in the family foundation? Should secrets long buried be revealed? The emotional ride this book takes you on will bring smiles, tears, laughter, and so much more as you learn how much the past has influenced so many of the residents of Skylark.
I thank Michelle Major for allowing me the chance to read and review an advanced copy of “Someone to Tempt” and I look forward to the third installment of the Skylark series!
FMC: Iris Dixon MMC: Jake Byrne Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 Pages: 333 Tropes: Second Chance Romance, Small Town Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Brother’s Best Friend, Reverse Grumpy/Sunshine Setting: Skylark, Colorado
Thoughts: I think I would have rated this higher, but it had my least favorite micro trope, the fmc telling the mmc to date someone else. And then getting jealous and hurt when he did what she asked. In this case Jake had no intentions of getting involved with the other woman, and it turned out she wasn’t interested either, but it was a no win situation for him. If he hadn’t done what Iris asked of him it would prove he wasn’t willing to do “anything” for her. But if he did it would prove he wasn’t interested in her. Aside from this situation, I really liked this book. Iris and Jake had a lot of guilt and misplaced baggage they needed to find their way through. They both held onto their secrets, but I liked that they revealed those secrets on their own terms and in a proactive way. They both fell for each other at 17 and it took coming back to the town that haunted them to find their way back to each other. I really liked the bookclub group and their support of each other. And Sloane’s role in Iris’ life. This book left so many clues about the next few books, and I cannot wait. I really liked the bucket list plot that’s running through the series and I can’t wait to see what the next bucket list item is!
Book two in The Skylark Series is Iris and Jake’s story and what a story it is. Iris returns to Skylark and is the interim mayor, in the town she loves and has always felt like a home to her. She’s viewed as the mayor that can’t have fun and is going to get the town’s slogan changed to “this is where fun comes to die”. She can’t let that happen, so for her bucket list challenge in Sloane’s Cool Girls Book Club she’s going to take dance lessons. As we read this book, we learn of Iris’s past in Skylark and why a lot of the residents are distrusting of her goals. No spoilers from me, but you will be surprised by what we find out. Now, on to Jake, Iris’s former crush and her twin brother, Nick’s best friend. He returns to Skylark to prove to his grandfather that he should be put in charge of his foundation, the Byrne Family Foundation. Jake’s past doesn’t are this seem possible, but he’s keeping secrets just like Iris. Gramps enrolls Jake in the dance class he goes to and tells him he’ll make time to attend. We have a new girl starting and she needs a partner. Things get even better because Jake’s partner is Iris. I can’t recommend this series enough and look forward to reading the future books in this series. Do yourself a favor and grab your copy and fall in love with these characters.
This is a small town romance that will make readers laugh out loud while they are rooting for the romance of the main characters. The romance sizzles and the HEA ending will make everyone smile.
Iris is a member of the book club from book one. She is the interim mayor of Skylark and wants to be voted into office at the next election. She is going to have a tough time because Skylark is a small town full of festivals and town fun and Iris is seen as a person who is NOT a lot of fun because some of her main goals - like improving the library - will take money out of the town budget that is spent on the fun events. So Iris, with the help of her friends decides to try to figure out how to have fun.
When Iris decides to learn ballroom dancing as a way to find fun, she is upset to find out the man who will be her partner is Jake. Jake was one of her brother's best friends and both boys got into a lot of trouble in high school and Iris blamed Jake for ruining her brothers reputation despite the fact that she used to have a major crush on him. Jake has just returned to Skylark and she hates him - doesn't want to be around him or speak to him. But is she strong enough to avoid the sparks that are flying between them every time they dance?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Someone to Tempt by Michelle Major! Another amazing read in the Skylark series! First of all, I’m obsessed! The journey of the characters, the drama, the banter, the spice, the romance, it all makes for an amazing read. These are books you don’t want to put down, “just one more chapter” and before you know it you read the whole thing. This book follows Iris, the mayor of Skylark, who just needs to add more fun into her life, it’s always been bland and lackluster. Well here enters our high school “friend” Jake, who has loved her since they met. He is the life of any party and together they find comfort in each other and find themselves through their journey of happiness. Jake is a hot AF author with a quick wit and high ambition who wants to worship Iris head to toe. What more could you ask for 😝 The side characters are also a big highlight of this series, the Book club these ladies are in show a great friendship, a true meaning of having someone’s back no matter what. I cannot wait to find out who the characters of book 3 are going to be and I’m here for the remainder of the series!!!! 100% add to your TBR!!!!
Jake and Iris have a history, quite the history actually. And on top of that, they are trying to move forward from their personal pasts. While they see the good in each other, it takes time to see the good in themselves.
While Iris sees the world as more black & white, Jake is more technicolor. They want to prove to the people they care about that they are more than their past, more than their mistakes, that they have grown.
The romance, the banter, and the characters will keep you turning the page. You will feel every feeling - the “I want to kick you feeling”, the “I want to hug you feeling” and the “Oh my gosh, finallllllly feeling”. It has such a great reminder to everyone to never give up on your dreams and you can do anything you set your mind to!
While this is book 2 in the series, I do believe you can read it as a standalone and have a good understanding of what is going on.
If you love 🦔 Enemies to Lovers 🦔 Forced Proximity 🦔 Girl Gangs 🦔 He Has a Secret 🦔 He Falls First, and Never Quits
then you should definitely add this book to your TBR!
Iris Dixon has gone back to Skylark, CO as the interim Mayor to escape a potential scandal in Minnesota. Jake Byrne has returned to Skylark to meet with his grandfather about the family foundation. Sparks 🔥 fly when they run into each other 10 years after high school. Family secrets 🤫and heartaches 💔 get in their way but unintentionally ending up at a dance class brings them together. Iris and Jake want to overcome their reputation and move beyond their demons that have been ruling their lives. This story is about forgiveness and acceptance for Iris and Jake as a way to rekindle their feelings from their turbulent past.
I enjoyed how Iris was the clumsy dancer 💃 and Jake is the smooth operator who, by chance, she is stuck with as a dance partner for the Fall Fest.
Someone to Tempt is the second book on the Skylark series. I look forward to reading the first book soon! It would make for a great Hallmark movie with the small town of Skylark as the setting. It was an easy read.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your e-ARC team in exchange for my honest review!
Someone to Tempt is book two in the Skylark series and is the story of Iris and Jake. This is a brother's best friend, enemies to lovers, small town, second chance romance.
As teenagers Jake and Iris shared a kiss and then their worlds fell apart. Iris has spent her adult life trying to overcome the chaos of the life her mom created. Jake has spent his adulthood attempting to outrun a wreckless night with his best friend and trying to convince those around him that he is just a trust fun brat. When a bad decision sends Iris back to a childhood home she only briefly lived in, she is appointed as the Mayor of Skylark, Colorado and she does her best to overcome the past and then Jake walks back into her life.
This story is a lesson in growing up and realizing that the person you were at seventeen is not the same person you are a decade or more later and learning to see past prior mistakes and embrace the potential of life when you accept yourself and those you care about. The emotion and depth of the characters were well developed and written with such heart. I highly recommend this books to all loers of romance that enjoy a good story and a well written HEA.
Iris Dixon has been asked to fill in as temporary Mayor of Skylark, CO. A small town that is known for being the fun town, only Iris does not think she is fun. So her book club nominates her as the next one in the group to do something off their bucket list. So she is determinized to have the most fun that she can and still keep running her office and being there for the town, but their are a few obstacles in her way. One being her PA, who seems to be undermining her, and Jake Byrn the one man she thought she would never see again... Why did he come back to to town and be the one man who' she has always lusted after. Now fate, the town and having fun has thrown them together. And can she resist Jake and his kisses...
Jake Byrn did not want to be back his his own town and finding out that iris, the one women who could make him burn was the mayor of the town of Skylark and fate is making them spend time together, dancing of all things and Jake having to hide his feelings and keep a secret from Iris and the town. All the while wanting Iris to know the truth about how he feels about her and keeping his secret, because when she finds out, it just may keep them apart forever.
And can she trust Jake with her heart...
I loved Iris and Jake together. The more they were thrown together , the more their characters fought against each other, but fate and the town would not let them be apart. Iris has major trust issues after being hurt so many times, not only by the men in her life, but by her family too. She wanted to be fun and the life of the party, but there were just too many secrets to keep from blowing up her life and having her HEA.
This is a wonderful small town romance that is filled with love, friendships and a community that brings people together as a family to live and love.
This was an ARC review in which the opinions and reviews are my own.
I love being back in Skylark and the Book Club gals and their bucket lists
I'm becoming a major fan of Michelle Major! This skylark series is up there with the better small town romances I have read recently.
Uptight, prickly mayor Iris is on a mission to overhaul her reputation and learn how to have some fun! Who better to help her than estranged childhood brothers best friend and trust fund baby, Jake who also just returned to town to take over the family foundation?
I absolutely loved the whole book and devoured it in a single sitting.
I love a good second chance romance and both these amazing main characters. Jake and Iris were just incredible. The brooding, the banter, the instantly sizzling chemistry and no long / drawn out miscommunication trope. Their story was perfection! Each of their individual identities is so well embedded through out the whole story and they just complement each other so well. I couldn't put it down. A beautiful, cozy romance. I can't wait for the Next installment of this series.
Thank you so much for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!
Smalltown emotional goodness! With the second book in her new Skylark series, Michelle Major takes her reader back into the heart of Skylark, Colorado with Mayor Iris Dixon's story. She's spent her life outrunning memories and scandal thanks to a dysfunctional family, but she's finally settled into the place that captured her heart. When her childhood crush AKA "the man that helped ruin her life" comes back onto the scene, all bets are off and emotions are holding all the cards. I loved Iris and Jake and really enjoyed getting to know their background and watching them find their way into a really heartwarming relationship. Lots of drama, well developed worlds and great characters will steal your heart with this series!
I highly recommend this book as well as the first in the series to anyone who enjoys a smalltown romance with lots of friendship, community and angst as love finds a way to heal all.
I definitely was looking forward to this book as I loved the first one in this series. I really like the premise for this book but initially I found myself liking the main male Character Jake better than her main female character. I felt like she was just cold and shut down where Jake was open and flirty.
As the book progresses though I really like how she developed them both and we get the true character of both of them when they get caught together in their dancing classes due to pressure from Jake’s Grandfather and iris’ journey fir “fun”.
They both had so many barriers to work through of childhood angst and teenage drama.
I loved the mysterious author genre weaved into it…it was nice that we always knew.
I would love to be a part of Sloane’s book club…
I can’t wait for her story!!!
If you love Michelle Majors and her couples this will be a good read for you.
Someone to Temp is Iris Dixon and Jake Byrne’s fast paced and entertaining story. It’s a well written story about friendships and I was captivated from the first chapter to the last page. Iris is the interim mayor for the small town of Skylark and she is determined to prove she is the woman for the job. Problem is the town see her as a stick in the mud and someone who does participate in the towns festivals and to prove them wrong she agrees to dancing classes. But what happens when she finds out her dancing partner is her brother’s best friend from school who she crushed on for many years but who she also blames for the trouble her brother got into. What follows is a cute, entertaining, small town romance with characters I fell hard and fast for. The chemistry is sizzling, the banter is witty but it was meddling, quirky town folk who took this book to another level.
ARC review ✨ I didn’t think Michelle Major could make me love anyone more than Ian and Sadie from her last book in this series, but Jake and Iris were really amazing! Jake and Iris have known each other since they were 17 and he was her brother’s friend who got into all sorts of trouble with him. Jake came back to Skylark, where Iris is the interim mayor, to take over his grandfathers foundation. He and Iris end up becoming dance partners and are going to perform at the annual Fun Fest and end up relearning each other and realizing they aren’t the same people they were at 17. I honestly loved how much depth these two characters had, the book club girls are still friendship goals, and I loved getting to have a deeper look into some of the side characters as well. Can’t wait to see who is part of the next book!!
I wish Skylark was a real place. I’d love to go sit in the local coffee shop and watch like it was my own personal streaming service. This is a small town, enemies to more, second chance story about good friends, lots of crazy nosy people who want what they want, care more about perceptions than reality, some wanting to do what is best for their town and others only care about what impacts them specifically. Iris is a rock. She loves her town and is running for Mayor, while she is currently the interim mayor. She is dubbed the “no fun, stick in the mud, trying to make the town the place where fun comes to die” mayor rather than the one who is trying to be responsible and do what's best for the town. When people from her past come home everything she wants is at risk, specifically her heart. It’s a light story that would make a great Hallmark movie. Easy and fun read.
I was so excited to venture back to Skylark, Colorado, with the second book in the Skylark Series with Someone to Tempt. Michelle Major has a knack for creating the dreamiest setting and very relatable characters. I could not help but empathize with Iris's story - she is driven, goal-oriented, and struggles finding time for "fun". I loved seeing Jake slowly break through her defenses and allow her to learn a valuable lesson; fun isn't about what you're doing, it is who you are with. Both Iris and Jake had unbelievable chemistry, and I loved reading how they were able to overcome parts of their past to be together.
If you like small-town, enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romances, definitely check this out! You will not be disappointed!
Thank you to Michelle Major for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Story Vibes: Loving the vibes for this one! Small town, second chances, enemies to lovers? Yes please! All these things and more make this story so captivating!
Overall Vibes: I loved this one! This is my first 𝙼𝚒𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚎 𝙼𝚊𝚓𝚘𝚛 book but it's not going to be my last!
The small town of Skylark is where I want to be right now. I loved the town, the characters, the romance, all captivated my soul! The way Jake fell hard for Iris left me smiling so big, and had me swooning so hard! The banter between them is top notch and their chemistry definitely heats up!
If you want a good, heartwarming, passion filled story, that will leave you wishing for someone like Jake to tempt you, then you need this in your life! The writing style is beautiful and the town is filled with characters that are beautifully chiseled.
The second book in the Skylark series is a fun little story. Not quite as bright as book one, but enjoyable to read.
We learn more about the life and times of town mayor Iris Dixon, who is trying to rebuild a life she has been searching for since childhood.
With her turn in the bucketlist challenge approaching, her childhood crush and enemy unexpectedly returns to town throwing her even more off kilter than she already felt.
This story showcases the full understanding of what a strong girl gang of friends can mean for someone who felt abandoned in the past. As Iris' friends stand by her without question, she finally allows herself a chance for all she has dreamed of achieving. Even though she didn't really know what those dreams were.
If you need something feel-good in your life, a real pick‐me-up story, definitely grab this tale!
There's something about a second chance romance that has me melt in a puddle of feelings. Jake and Iris are perfect!! Both broken and in their heads about their past, a past that wasn't even their fault but they had to live with the guilt and repercussions from. For Iris it was battling the shadows that came from her mother's choices, and believing someone she shouldn't. For Jake it was survivors guilt after his brother's accident, and finding a way to truly honor his memory. This truly was a beautiful story of redemption, second chances, and fighting for what you want.
I can't wait for the next book that takes me back to Skylark!!
Thank you Michelle Major for an ARC of this book!
