This is a review of A Supermoon Adventure by Mona Leung, the third in The Adventures of Princess Ramele and Prince Peter series. I have read the first in the series but not the second. I read fantasy novels for all ages frequently. I received this book for free via Goodreads.
I think this book is edited better than the first one. Again, I think the age range should be 8-10 rather than 8-18. Since the main characters are 10 years old and the reading level is not advanced, it doesn’t seem like a book for teens - unless they enjoy reading books for all ages. (I adored The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet when I was 8 years old and never outgrew it, but it is still a children’s book with suggested age recommendation of 7-10, not a young adult book.)
I didn’t like the description of some twins as identical but one a boy and the other a girl. Identical twins are not different sexes and if they are in this world, there should be an explanation so it isn’t confusing.
I was also curious about “infamous Chef Mas Grande.” It doesn’t seem like the children know her full background, and now we learn that she is “infamous.” So, what did she do before becoming a cook? Why is she known for something disgraceful? Had she been a rebel?
There is a character with a moral dilemma. There is a mystery to solve. There is danger. There is forgiveness and understanding. There is being your own person despite expectations.
This book in the series give some brief educational information about coral reefs and oceanic life, but I suspect more was given in the second book. This book gives some information on the orbits of moons and the associated gravitational pull. It also mentions a few aspects of mining.
