Orribile.

Following the huge cliffhanger I was left with at the end of "His Reverie," I couldn't wait to get my hands on this sequel and conclusion to Reverie and Nick's story.

In this second and final installment, I found that life had dramatically changed for Reverie and nothing would ever be the same again. At the beginning of the story, she wasn't handling these changes at all well but then again, her world had been turned upside down.
Good girl Reverie Hale doesn't exist anymore. She's gone. Wiped from existence.

As I worked my way through the book, I found myself becoming more and more annoyed at how Reverie reacted to her situation. Her actions were so childish and she appeared to be so different from the sweet girl I'd met in the first book. I really had to step back and think about why she was acting so out of character and take into account that she was still only seventeen. Reverie, up to this point, had lived a very sheltered life with very little real life experience and as such was, at times a little immature. Now, suddenly all of that protection had gone and, for the first time she was having to deal with real life and the problems that it brought.

Nick was also in a depressing situation. After yet another run of bad luck, he was left wondering what had happened to his Reverie. I felt so sorry for him. This boy just never seemed to catch a break. My heart went out to him and I hoped that he could find some much deserved happiness in his life.
Protecting her only ended up fucking over my chance with her. I think I may have ruined it for good.

Nick missed Reverie like crazy and was desperate to find her and put things right between them. But would it be that easy for him to walk back into Reverie's life after so much had happened?

As you can probably tell, I found the first half of this story a little gloomy, leaving me desperate for some sunshine and happiness for this couple and I remained hopeful that Monica would grant them some.
"You and me...we're not are a good idea, are we?"
"Probably not. But that's not going to stop me from trying for us again."

I once again, fell in love with Reverie and Nick as a couple. Thankfully Reverie found her old self again and actually emerged a lot more confident and determined to tackle both her own and Nick's problems. At last Reverie was beginning to grow up. Nick remained as loving and patient as he was in the first book. That boy just didn't deserve any of the crap that was put in his way. Life truly had sucked for him.

I wondered how Reverie and Nick would make their relationship work with all of the challenges that lay ahead and just as I thought they had a chance, along came yet another nightmare. OMG!! I did not expect the twist in the story. I did not see it coming and I was left biting my nails, feeling apprehensive. What was going to happen next? It appeared any chance of happiness for Reverie and Nick was slipping through their fingers, yet again!

Monica Murphy gave me an ending that I truly loved. Yay!! And it was one that suited the characters perfectly.
I want to melt into him. Become one with him and never leave his side.

My final thoughts in this review are for Evan, Reverie's older brother. I was really surprised how he handled the changes in his life. He appeared to be dealing with everything a lot better than I had imagined, his priority being Reverie. He placed her needs first in everything that he did, not doing anything for himself. All his life consisted of was working, sleeping and looking out for her. I wondered what he truly felt and what sort of future Evan was going to have. I think that maybe there was potential there for another story. So, if you are reading this Monica, Evan needs a happy ending too! LOL.

I loved "Her Destiny" and it gets 4.5 happy ever after hearts from me!

I met a boy.
And I fell for him.
Hard.
He was sweet, her was kind and no matter how much he tried to deny me...
He couldn't resist
And neither could I.
He was my first kiss.
The first boy I let touch me.
He was my first...everything.
But he walked away from me.
To protect me...from himself.
When the only protection I really wanted...
The only protection I needed...
Was him. ~ Reverie Hale

Before I say anything about Her Destiny by Monica Murphy at all, I'm going to tell you to read His Reverie. You have to read it for two reasons. First, it gives all the background information for the story to make sense. Second it's such a phenomenal story of course you have to read it.

As Her Destiny begins, Reverie Hale is heart broken, because after spending a wonderful night with Nicholas Fairchild, he completely disappears from her life. It's bad enough that Nick has left her, but now she also has to deal with the fallout from the collapse of her father, Reverend Hale's ministry. It seem the Hale mother and father were most definitely not the good Christians they portrayed themselves to be. They've been embezzling funds from their ministry for years. Living the good life while stealing from their flock.

If you thought Reverie's parents were uninvolved in her life in the first book, they're even worse in this one. Since her parents have lost everything, Reverie goes to live with her brother Evan. The two have them have only ever known life having money. Now, they worry about being able to pay for their small apartment. Both of them work as many hours as they can and worry about college for Reverie, since she's now a high school senior.

Of course the relationship between Nick and Reverie plays the biggest part in Her Destiny. Nick arrested again for a crime he didn't commit has lost contact with Reverie. While he was in prison and Reverie had to leave her vacation home the two of them are lost to each other. Nick tries to text message Reverie, but never gets a response. Reverie, thinking that Nick only used her, starts on her way down the wrong path at the start of her senior year.

Fortunately, the police don't have enough evidence to hold Nick, so they release him. To clear his name completely, all he has to do is tell the police what he was doing the night of the crime. To protect Reverie, he won't do it.

He also decides he doesn't want to be without Reverie any more and searches for her. When he finds her, she pushes him away. She doesn't understand how he could have left her. In addition, her brother Evan wants Nick to stay away from Reverie. Let's face it, Nick doesn't have the best luck in the world and Evan is afraid he'll drag Reverie down. Evan who definitely didn't give a big brother vibe in His Reverie, does a complete turn around. He's very concerned about Reverie and wants what's best for her.

I have to tell you, there's a plot twist in Her Destiny that I didn't see coming at all. There were some tense moments when I was holding my breath. But that just made the story even better. You won't be sure how things turn out until the very end. Oh and I'm so not telling you because I want you to read His Reverie and Her Destiny.

This has to be one of the best series I've read this summer. You'd never think Reverie would fall for someone like Nick. You'd never think someone who's been through all the tragedy Nick's been through could be so sweet and loving.

As for the book boyfriend factor Nicholas Fairchild is off the charts perfect. He's physically fabulous to look at, but that's not just it. What's inside of him is completes the perfection package. He decides he's going to get Reverie back. He knows the odds are against them, but he loves her completely and that makes me love him even more than I did in the first book.

Of course I'm giving Her Destiny a five lip smack review. It really is a beautiful story. And maybe, just maybe, if we're really lucky, Monica Murphy will give Evan his own story (fingers crossed).

I haven’t been this excited to get an ARC in my inbox in, well, I don’t know when. Maybe ever. His Reverie was a wonderful story, but as soon as it ended, I wanted more. And now I have it and it was worth the wait. Picking up several weeks after His Reverie ends, Her Destiny is told from dual points of view. I love that we get to hear from Reverie this time around without being filtered through diary entries.

The passion, angst, and heartbreak are amped up in this sequel, culminating in a climax with higher stakes. I love that this book isn’t just a continuation of the first. It’s a sequel with more teeth as both of their worlds are night and day by comparison to what they were before. Reverie’s life is irrevocably changed on the heels of the Hale family scandal, and in the aftermath of Krista’s murder, Nick remains a prime suspect. The fact that they live two hours apart only adds to the conflict.

Plot
Reverie and her family return home to deal with the accusations against her parents, while Nick is left behind to deal with his own accusations — that he killed his ex-girlfriend, Krista. With no way to reach Reverie, Nick desperately misses her and longs for her. Reverie is heartbroken that Nick refused to see her after he was arrested, and now she hasn’t heard from him in weeks. She spirals out of control, becoming someone unrecognizable, partying with the wrong crowd, trying to kiss away her feelings for Nick.

Their lives intersect once again in an unexpected way and both of them, trying to do what’s best for the other, attempt to deny their feelings for each other, but all that does is complicate things further.

Characters
The character development and growth is gritty and realistic and drives the story. I was glad to see that Monica Murphy kept her characters true to who they were while also allowing them to change as a result of the events that take place in their lives. Reverie, especially, is authentic as the good girl whose sheltered life comes crashing down around, rebelling against the values her corrupt parents instilled in her. It’s believable that a teen already searching for her place in the world, would question everything her parents taught her when it’s revealed they weren’t who they pretended to be.

Nick is still coping not only with Krista’s death, but the time he did in prison for his false conviction nearly two years before. He’s struggling just as much as Reverie to find his place in a world that isn’t what he thought it was. The rug is pulled out from under him once again and he’s floundering in believable fashion.

Bottom Line
If possible, Her Destiny is even better than His Reverie. It explores trust, responsibility, faith and the bonds of love as they’re tested over and over again.

I have a love/hate relationship with cliff hangers. I love the anticipation that comes with them, knowing I'm going to get more of a story I enjoy, but hate having to wait for it. I've read a number of books by Monica Murphy and know a cliffhanger is something she's familiar with, but knew the pain of waiting was worth it. His Reverie had ended on but a brutal cliffhanger. It wasn't just in one aspect either, but multiple upheavals that occurred simultaneously. So I was eagerly awaiting the release of Her Destiny to find out what was going to happen to the separated lovers.

It felt so wrong to see them apart, especially when they would've preferred to be together. I was surprised to see how changed Reverie was. In a way I was sad to see her innocence go, but happy to see her taking her happiness into her own hands. I wasn't very happy with Nick for turning her away, but then again I wasn't happy with how he was being targeted once again for something he didn't do. I was eager to find out who Krista's killer was. The identity took me by surprise, and although it made sense, I kept expecting the other shoe to drop.

I found the unsent communication Nick and Reverie wrote to each other to be extremely romantic. I felt it was a great way to prove their bond was still strong and true even though they were no longer in each other's lives. Speaking of bonds, Ethan was quite a surprise in this book. It was great to see him and Reverie together and being a family. I was not very happy with their parents. Good riddance to them. I was hoping to find out the reason for their mother's partiality towards Ethan, but that didn't happen.

The book was written well. I read it as fast as I could and was not disappointed when I finished it. This duology is the first young adult series I've read from Monica Murphy. She's proved she can write in many different genres and age ranges. I look forward to hopefully reading more YA from her. Perhaps Ethan can get his own book. I'd definitely like to read about that, even if it would be NA and not YA.

I really enjoyed this story, maybe even more than His Reverie. Her Destiny is filled with young love, uncertainty, unanswered questions, suspense, coming of age issues, family issues, and self identity. Two unlikely teens find each other and first love in one summer. But that love that has a ripple affect of consequences that follows them into the fall bring confusion, heartache, and danger to an already complicated situation.
Her Destiny picks up where His Reverie ended. Reverie's family was forced to leave their summer house while Nick is being held for 48 hrs as a suspect in Krista's death. By the time he is released Reverie has gone back to school and Nick isn't quit sure how to find her. After Reverie's parents are accused for stealing from the ministry and their assets are frozen, she moves in with Evan while finishing her senior year of school. But she is no longer miss innocent goody two-shoes,no she's a rebellious party girl trying to forget all her family issues and especially trying to forget Nick after he broke her heart by abandoning her like everyone else. She feels unloved and unwanted. But something's gotta give, she can't keep this act up, it just isn't her. As she's trying to put her life back together, restore friendships, bring up her grades, and apply for college there isn't much more she can deal with, until Nick comes looking for her. Now she must decide to give him another chance or push him away for good. In the mist of all this she is pulled into the very thing Nick tried to keep her out of, the investigation of Krista's death. Reverie is the only alibi Nick has and can remove him from the suspect list if she is brave enough to give her statement. Krista's killer is nowhere near being found and the police are looking in all the wrong places. But the killer will stop at nothing to make sure Nick and Reverie never make it to happily ever after,if they even have a chance at that happening in the first place.

Monica Murphy has been on my autobuy list forever. I always know when I pick up one of her books I am in for a great story. Her Destiny is the continuation of His Reverie. It picks up right where Monica left us hanging in the first book.

I love the star crossed lovers storyline, and these characters definitely fit the bill. Reverie is the daughter of a famous televangelist and Nick is the ex-con just trying to make a life for himself after being in prison.

There's been a lot of turmoil in both character's lives since the end of the first book. Reverie's life has turned upside down. She alternates between missing Nick and rebelling. In the first book we're told the story through Nick's POV and Rev's dairy entries. This book is told through Rev's eyes and Nick's unsent emails and text messages.

While I liked this book I was a little disappointed at the predictability of it. It just needed a little more oomph. Her Destiny is the second book in the series, it's necessary to read His Reverie first as it is a continuation of that story. It is the final book in the series, no cliffhanger.

Tutto molto banale e sempliciotto.

Eh, this was a bad as the first. This was more from Reverie's point of view and oh my god was she whiny. There was simply no character development with her. Her brother though had some. He went from the entitled asshole, to the best big brother finally giving a shit about Rev. The writer destroyed Nick for me in this one. I liked him in the first one, but here she made him a complete love sick wuss. This conclusion was unrealistic AF!!! So it picks up months after the murder, they still haven't found the culprit. Everyone is looking at Nick for obvious reasons. Rev was his alibi, but the dumbass refused to use her so he wouldn't ruin her reputation. All I'm thinking is did this dumbass not watch the news? It's already ruined. Her parents are frauds!!! Anyways, they do this whole tug of war, I love you, I love you not, you're bad for me bla bla bla. Then there is this random twist, the killer is revealed then BOOM! Two 17 year olds live happily ever after and plan on getting an apartment together in....what was i, San Diego? L.A? One of those places. Yea, that's not how it works, that's not how any of this works. It ended as quick as it started. Bah.

My Her Destiny Review...

Since I was left with the cliffhanger from His Reverie I had to read this book to find out what happens.  As I begun reading I was hoping that I was going to start to like Reverie's character more than the last book but sadly no, that was not the case.  In reality I started to like her even less.  For Reverie she was a bit sheltered from the world and Nick was really her first experience of the outside world.

Because of this naivety when she gets the bitch slap of her reality she really doesn't handle it well.  Instead of being the strong girl she had potential to be, she throws her friends away and becomes friends with the 'mean girls' or class tramps.  While Rev is spiraling out of control with her family drama, her broken heart for Nick is still there.  If it wasn't for her brother Evan I don't know what would have happened to her.  With their recent reality, Evan steps up to the plate and takes care of Rev.

At this point even though I wasn't digging Rev, I still got her and what was going on.  However, the moment Nick comes back in the scene is where I got really confused.  Until this point she has been missing Nick, then he shows up and she is all 'nope, not going to happen. I've changed' blah, blah blah and does a complete 180º where it comes to Nick.

Nick has never stopped loving or thinking about Rev but he is just as confused with Rev as I am at this point.

I need her to stop contradicting herself.

This is what I realized that bugs me about her, is all her contradictions.  She is so wishy washy that it is hard to really warm up to her. They have both had many road blocks in life and some worse than others but Nick handles them with a maturity beyond his age where Rev's immaturity hinders her which causes a divide for me with the depth of their emotions towards one another.

Even though Rev was not winning my heart. I did like the story and especially Nick.  I think if I was younger like 20 years younger I totally be cool with Rev and have more empathy with her.  Most of the times when I read YA/NA type books I can lost in them and don't feel like I am way to old to read them but this one I felt like it really is geared to a younger audience.

One minute everything is good and then the next, it can all change. In a blink of an eye, all because of what someone else did, not because of your own actions.

This starts up a few months after the dramatic conclusion to His Reverie. Sweet, innocent, good girl Reverie Hale is gone. She is now finishing her last year of high school, living with her brother, rebelling, and trying new experiences. She is also trying to forget the boy that she feels left her and broke her heart, and she is unhappy and lonely. Her family is crumbling, their finances in ruin, and she is also trying to avoid all of the backlash of the media.

No one wants me. Poor stupid little Reverie, believing in love and truth and family--I'm left disappointed.

Nick was just trying to protect her and keep her out of a mess he got pulled into. But then she was gone and he does not even know how to contact her.

They are both just trying to survive emotionally and in an unforgiving world. They are lost, lonely, jaded, and hurt. And they are trying to find their own way, but having a hard time forgetting what they shared over the summer. But they also both have doubts about themselves and if what they shared was real.

And when Nick finally finds her, she is not going to fall right back into his arms. She is different, still hurt, and still angry. But she is also struggling with lack of self worth and guilt. She has also become stronger and in some ways ready to make a stand, while in others ways afraid to trust and move forward.

"You're not a mess, baby. I'm the one who's a mess because I don't have you in my life."

And Nick has only ever wanted to love and protect her. He's willing to fight for her, but not sure he is willing to fight her for a chance if it is really not what she wants. He mostly cares about her happiness over his own.

"You and me...we're not a good idea, are we?"
"Probably not. But that's not going to stop me from trying for us again."

There are mixed feelings, fears, insecurities, challenges, complications, and drama. The negative events of last summer overshadow the positive ones at times and they are still dealing with the fall out. They are both trying to forge a path to their own futures, but floundering a bit due to confusion, circumstances and unresolved issues.

This girl is definitely mine, though I'm not sure she realizes it.

I was glad to see Reverie mature and gain some back bone. One thing that distracted me so much in the first book was how young, immature and meek she was. She was still a bit wishy-washy and pushed Nick away at times in this one. There was a lot of push and pull that did get a bit frustrating. But it was also somewhat understandable since she was a girl struggling with her identity, loss, guilt, and fears of getting hurt.

F***ing head trip is what that girl is giving me, not that I'm pushing her away. Hell, I'm reveling in the head trip, as f***ed up as that sounds. The push and pull, the back and forth, it's all worth it if the ultimate reward is Reverie in my arms. Forever.

I still loved Nick. He has been through so much and treated so unfairly. But he was a good, hard working guy that truly loved Rev. He knew he did not have much to offer and came with baggage, but he was so loving, sweet, respectful, and protective of her. She was the only bright spot he had in his life and he truly wanted what was best for her.

They had a strong connection but still struggled with fears, misconceptions, and outside influences. But all along I knew I wanted them to be together because despite their differences, they were better and stronger together. But they were also young, vulnerable, and dealing with very traumatic situations that affected every aspect of their lives. So it was tension filled, heartbreaking, and heartfelt. And there still is danger lurking under the surface that causes anxiety and more tension.

I also enjoyed seeing changes in her older brother, Evan. He and Rev were put through a lot through no fault of their own. I really did not like him in the first book, but he won me over in this one.

This book was told predominantly in Reverie's point of view, but Nick's voice was also heard through long, heartfelt emails and some chapters in his point of view. It was angsty, dramatic, and had some suspense thrown in, but it was also a sweet story of the strength of first love and hope. This completes the story began in His Reverie and gives us the answers and resolution we were seeking after the end of book one.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Ok first of all guys make sure you have read His Reverie before you even think about picking this book up. This book was just as if not better than the first one. Monica Murphy really finishes the journey and wraps it up nicely. There is so much more than a forbidden romance going on in this book and you have to keep turning the page to figure it all out. This was definitely a great ending to a fantastic series.

Reverie Hale. We get to hear so much more from her in this book. It’s not filtered through diary entries either. We really get a feel for who she is as a person after her life completely falls away. Reverie’s parents are being accused of embezzling millions from her father’s followers. And the worst part is…they aren’t denying it. So Reverie moves out and in with Evan. Now she is working full time and trying to keep themselves in the apartment they are in. Then Nick walks back into her life. Reverie had a lot of growing up to do in this book. She could no longer be the naive girl we met in the first book. She goes through two different major changes. She tries to become the bad girl slut she feels is the opposite of what she was before. But that isn’t working for her. So now she is trying to find the middle ground. She matures a lot in this book. She becomes a character that you can actually like. I loved getting to know her more outside of her diary this go around.

Nicholas Fairfield. He is really getting the short end of the stick in life. His poor character was just trying to enjoy some happiness and it all ended up getting taken from him. In the first part of the book he tries to convince himself that Reverie is better off without him and when that doesn’t work…he goes to find her. I’m not sure how I really feel about Nick in this book. We get a better look at his feelings for Reverie without all of the talk about sex. He was finally willing to acknowledge just how much Rev actually meant to him. But now that he goes after her he has to try and convince her he didn’t leave her by choice. And now he also has Evan to deal with. Nick was always really mature because of everything he has been through but I am really glad that he decides to let go of his past. Nick has to grow himself and find his place in the world… with or without Reverie.

Reverie’s family is around even less. Her parents are nonexistent. They have left Evan and Reverie to fend for themselves. They don’t even send any money to help them when it was their idea Reverie move out. Evan finally becomes the big brother he is supposed to be but I also feel like it was too much too late. The things he said to Nick, when he didn’t even know him, rubbed me the wrong way. It was nice to see him actually care about Reverie but I am also glad that she didn’t let him sway her.

The way Monica Murphy wrote this book was just incredible. The story built and built in a way that made the book impossible to put down. The heartbreak, love, angst, and suspense was way beyond the His Reverie. Each of the characters explore trust, responsibly, faith, and how when you form a bond of love it will be tested…more than once. And every time you have the possibility to come out stronger than before. All of our questions will be answered and you won’t even see the twist coming. The way the problems unfolded made the story flow well. The reader will never be bored and you find yourself rooting for Nick and Reverie even louder the more you read!

Sometimes I forget how much I love an author until they come out with something new and I am so glad I was able to find my love for Monica Murphy all over again! Go pick this one up!

Salve Readers,

Poi all’improvviso torna Nick…

4.5 stars

Nick and Reverie are both dealing with the events at the end of His Reverie. Between Krista and Reverie’s parents, they are each dealing with their own struggles on top of Reverie’s return to LA for the Fall. In the chaos, Nick is left with no way to contact Rev, and Rev spirals into a different version of herself.

I knew they were facing some major challenges when this book began, but I was surprised with the way they were each dealing with the challenges. Nick’s emails to Reverie broke my heart with the pain he poured out into them. Reverie had a complete personality shift (it seems) that was so incongruous to who she was at the beginning of the summer that I wondered how she would pull herself back.

Both characters have done some growing up in the time between the two books. Reverie is no longer the naive, innocent she was at the beginning of His Reverie and I have to say, I didn’t miss that aspect of her character one bit. She may have lost the innocence, but that doesn’t mean she has herself figured out and does go through a bit of an identity crisis, but in a way that makes sense when considering all the change she has experienced in the last few months. She is bolder this time, more sure of herself and she is learning who she is and what she wants.

Nick’s changes are a little more subtle. His wrongful imprisonment, the loss of his mom, and with what happened to Krista have darkened his outlook considerably, and he looks to Reverie to lighten his life. When they are separated by distance and he can’t get in contact with her, his world is rocked once again.

Comparing the first and second book, I loved this one in a way that the first couldn’t quite stand up to. Part of that is the general maturing Nick and Rev (especially Rev) went through. Their actions are based less on secrets and more on finding themselves. But the other part was the plot itself. There was so much more going on in this one, so many things hovering over Nick and Reverie’s heads beyond the threat of her parents finding out about them.

While I deduced what happened with Krista long before the end, I still read from the edge of my seat. I needed to see how and when Nick and Rev would put the pieces together.

This felt like the mature YA I was expecting to get in the first book. While they have matured beyond the average high school senior, based on their life experiences, they still fit when with that age group in a much more accessible form for those readers who aren’t also still in high school.

It was a great ending to a sweet series that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. From the very first chapter I was hooked, waiting for the end of Nick and Rev’s story, hoping for the best the whole time but not able to let my breath out in fear of jinxing things.

I dived into this one because His Reverie ended on a cliffhanger and I needed to know how they were going to go on from there. This one picked up a few weeks later and the main voice is Reverie and here we are seeing the full fall out of all the secrets revealed in the background of book one.

This book at first was filled with Rev being such a baby and brat and it really took the people who cared about her the most calling her out on her shyt for her to realize how much of a brat she's being. Like I get that this was devastating for you and your family but think of all the people who were more hurt by your parents actions & take your head out of your ass. And the end of the day you came out on top hen many people didn't.

My favorite characters in this story had to be her best friends because they did not hesitate to take her to task and hold up a mirror to her actions and make her start to think. Reeling from the revelations she realizes she was super naive and yet she still acts out. Her brother was another of my favorites because where before he was a spoiled guy you never really saw, he stepped all the way up and began to make all the adult decision especially because Rev was going through her phase.

Having her world implode made Rev start questioning everything and so she rebelled and made friends with people she would have never been friends with because lets face it, at the end of the day Rev is a nerd, and being racy and wild really isn't her style. I loved that she began to grow and challenge herself all because she saw that her brother was doing the same.

The story focused on Rev learning to find herself again and realizing who she was wasn't founded only on what her parents had always demanded from her. She also realized family isn't always the people who you are born to. While discovering all of this she starts to learn what her boundaries are in relationships as well. Nick and Rev had been separated due to her family's scandal and she thought he chose to leave her as well and that threw her for a loop. Now Nick has to work to make his way back into her life, while also proving himself to her brother. Of course the mystery we had started to reveal in book one comes back into play and have the fall out from that.

The story was and wasn't predictable, how they were going to end up together wasn't certain because of how Monica wrote it out. Maybe they would have only been a summer fling, the journey to see if they were more was good. I loved the growth both characters went through and of course seeing how much her brother also grew and of course the end to the mystery made this one fly by.

I recommend this one along with Ask Me by Kimberly Pauley.
