4.5 sexy, chilling, whodunit? stars!

Twisted is the second book in Cynthia Eden’s thrilling romantic suspense series, LOST. Like the first installment, Broken, Twisted is an exciting murder mystery with plenty of suspects who all have motives, and that kept me guessing almost to the end!

Blurb…

Dean Bannon comes to New Orleans for one reason only: to track down a missing sixteen-year-old girl. That's before he meets the drop-dead gorgeous con artist who makes him want to lose his legendary control.

With her past, Emma Castille doesn't claim to be psychic. She just notices things other people don't. Like the fear in a runaway's eyes—or the pain in an ex-FBI agent's heart. Her chemistry with Dean is blistering, but Emma follows her passion . . . not someone else's orders.

Then a madman breaks into Emma's home and leaves a twisted message: You're next. Now Dean refuses to let her out of his sight until he pries every last secret from her full, sexy lips. And suddenly Emma's aching to give him everything he wants.

My thoughts…

Cynthia Eden fans have been raving about this series, and I get why! The LOST team of men and women are the kinds of heroes and heroines I love – flawed, but perfectly so. They all have a past, have all lost someone dear to them, so they understand the need to help families find their loved ones. This brings a level of emotion to the stories that has my heart aching, not only for the victims, but for those trying to save them.

Like the first book, there's an element of insta-lust to this story. It didn't bother me quite as much this time around, probably because Emma didn't have the level of baggage to carry around that Eve did. In fact, Emma is a strong heroine and she and Dean are a perfect match! I love that they found each other!

The bottom line…

If you’re a fan of edgy romantic suspense and want lots of steam in your stories, then look no further than the team at LOST. The books are fast paced, exciting, gritty, and definitely sexy!

My Review of book #1, Broken

My thanks to Avon Books for providing me with a copy of this story. In appreciation I’m giving them an honest review.

Dean Bannon was an FBI agent until the bureau’s rules and delays led to the death in a case he was working. After that he left the bureau to work for Last Option Search Team or LOST, a group of specialists in tracking down missing people. Dean comes to New Orleans looking for a missing sixteen year-old girl, Julia. It seems the last one to see Julia alive is Emma Castille, a street vendor with a knack for reading people. To Dean, Emma is just another con artist bilking the public out of money to hear her utter nonsense readings, but he soon finds her skills very handy to their case. Even with his doubts about Emma, he can’t deny the immediate attraction. She’s gorgeous and the more he gets to know her the more he realizes there’s to Emma than meets the eye.

Emma learned from her father to open her eyes and really look around. She’s a pro at reading people and surroundings so well that some would mistake her as s psychic. Emma has dealt with death and darkness before, losing her father in the process. She wants to find Julia so much she isn’t afraid when the abductor targets Emma, as well.

Twisted
was everything I want from a romantic suspense novel: action, danger, twists and passion. This is the kind of story you want to read straight through to find out exactly how it all turns out. It was easy to get behind Dean and Emma’s instant and intense connection. Being faced with life and death situations really boiled down what was most important to them and they got to know each other at a deep level quickly. Their romance was hot and desperate, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Even though I did guess who the killer was before it was revealed there was danger and twists at every turn making this one exciting read! I’m very intrigued by the next installment, Shattered, where Dr. Sarah Jacobs, a criminal psychologist in the LOST group, is paired up with Jax, a guy definitely on the wrong side of the law. Can’t wait!

I switched back and forth from the audio version to the e-copy and I have to say Abby Craden’s narration is amazing. Her voice lends a sultry and dark edge to the story I really enjoyed!

A sixteen year old girl is missing and it's up to the LOST team to find her. The cops aren't concerned until everyone realizes that this isn't a simple case of a runaway—a serial killer is on the loose. For Dean, it's an uncomfortable truth that stems from his past. He was once a victim at the hands of a killer and he's determined to end this killer's spree. For Emma, years ago her help was too late and she wants to help any way she can.

Emma was a bit annoying with her unrealistic expectation of partnership. She couldn't understand why she wasn't given the same courtesy as the members of the LOST team. Could it be that her experience as a 'psychic' reader in the town square didn't quite equal that of an ex-cop, ex-FBI agent, ex-Navy SEAL, a profiler, and a forensic pathologist?

Maybe.

Aside from that, this was a wildly entertaining thriller. Although I guessed quickly at the identity of the killer, it didn't detract from my enjoyment of how everything unfolded. There were twists and turns and some oblivious professionals and I liked it.

There's a spark between Jax and Sarah. Both have dark pasts so I'm sure that will play into their connection and since their story is next, I'm off to go read it.

Hot damn, but this book was fantastic!

“I. Love. You. And I don’t care if it’s too soon or too fast. You’re the only one who has ever gotten this close to me. I think about you all the time. I want to make you smile. I want to give you the whole world. And when I lost you . . .” His voice roughened. “Everything went dark. Everything. I wasn’t sane without you. I need you that much. So much that I don’t want to think of a life without you. I can’t.”

Dean Bannon is ex-FBI, and working for LOST. He is currently in New Orleans looking for a missing girl, Julia. Then he meets Emma Castille, thinking she is just a con artist, although a beautiful one, and hoping she can lead him to Julia, as she is the last person who saw Julia.

Emma is used to being scorned because of her past and abilities, but she refuses to let Dean order her around. She doesn’t obey rules, but she will do anything to locate Julia, even use herself as bait.

“I want everything from you, and in return, well, everything is absolutely what I’ll give you.”

I loved Emma and Dean together. He refuses to lose control, and Emma doesn’t believe in control, she lives for the moment, and her passion drives Dean to lose his famous control. They were so very sexy as a main couple, and I loved their chemistry.

Emma’s talent reminded me a lot of Jane from Mentalist, and I found her and the members of LOST very interesting.

I’m really loving this series. Cynthia Eden writes another RS winner, with a great cast and suspense and a wonderful romance.

I can’t wait to read the next book about Sarah, a psychologist and the daughter of a serial killer, and Jax, a criminal who lives by his own rules and honor.

This series is a must read for all romantic suspense lovers.

Dean is the control freak of the LOST team, never letting his guard down and always feeling the pain of the lost that won't be found. While down in New Orleans to find Julia, a missing 16 year old, he meets Emma. Emma is a free spirit that lets her emotions lead her. She's also very good at reading people and noticing what most people don't.

Emma is Dean's only lead in his investigation, but she won't help him unless he let's her work with him to bring Julia home. Neither of them expected Emma to be the suspects next target, though. Working together they race to find Julia in time and to protect anymore victims.

"You’ll always be a good man. I just make you better.”

Loved, loved, loved Dean and Emma! Seriously, they are my favorite couple right now! They were so similar in some ways, like how stubborn they both were, but so different in other ways that it made such a good combination of characters. The chemistry that they had was so intense that I just couldn't put the book down and I refused to sleep until I was finished.

Cynthia Eden writes such amazing books, I will never get enough of them! The suspense and mystery to this story sucked me in and I never stopped guessing what would happen until the very end. I will forever be a die hard fan of this author and am already dying for the next book.

My schedule has been extra busy lately, so it took me some time to finish this book. I liked this more than the first book in the series. I found the heroine in Twisted to be more likable. The hero was fine. The plot was okay. I'm not enthralled with this series, but I read this for free on Hoopla, so I have no real complaints. Overall, this is a decent romantic suspense read.

“You don’t realize how very much you want to live until death tries to take you”

The second book in the Lost series blew me away!

When I read the blurb, I wasn’t as excited as I had been about Broken but I was so wrong! I loved this book more than I did the first one.

The team is needed once again! Dean travels all the way to New Orleans in search of a runaway sixteen year old girl. He may not find what he’s looking for but fate has other plans for him.

Emma Castille never claimed to be anything more than a good observer. It’s not her fault is she notices the little details that people choose to ignore. It’s not her fault that she can’t forget the fear in Julia’s eyes or the fact that Dean isn’t as good at hiding his feelings as he thought. Emma knows that she can help Dean find the missing girl if only he lets her help.

What neither anticipates is a note in Emma’s house claiming that she’s next. They both know that there’s a killer among them but what they don’t seem to realize is that the killer is closer than they think.

OMG! Twisted totally blew me away. I thought the first book was awesome but this was beyond incredible and I just know that the next one will be even more amazing. I can’t deny it, I’m a huge fan of Eden’s but if you had read all of her books you would be too. I really loved Broken, the story and the plot were perfect but there were times that Eve wasn’t such a great heroine. With Emma I had no problems at all.

Emma and Dean were very alike. They both were strong, determined, loyal, protective and so stubborn. I liked Emma! She was so fierce regarding the people she cared about. She didn’t care what others thought of her. Most, just like Dean in the beginning, thought that she was a con artist just like her father but they were all wrong not only about her but about her father as well. Nobody knew that her father was everything to her or that when she lost him she lost (literally) everything. Everything she now had, she had to fight to get.

“With me… without me you’ll always be a good man. I just make you better.”

The romance between them was evident from the beginning. Dean had it really bad from the first time he saw her. I was so anxious to see how things were going to end up with them since they were both very strong characters. I wasn’t disappointed. Seriously these two lit the pages on fire.

As if I wasn’t anxious enough about the romance, the suspense was killing me too. I had no idea who the threat was and I really wanted to find out. Until I did, everyone was a suspect.

I’m hoping that the next book will be Sarah and Jax’s story. We already know Sarah and Jax is a new hot bad boy character (he’s actually Emma’s ex) and I have a feeling that you’ll just love him. Also there’s something going on between Wade and Victoria. I’ve no idea if they are going to end up together but I wouldn’t have a problem if they did.

All in all, Twisted is a must read. Just read it! If you’re not a fan of romance (seriously, who isn’t?) you’ll love the suspense and the action but if you already love these, then this book is for you.

Highly recommended!

Emma is a seriously great character, and this book is great - good solid mystery with heaping boatloads of suspense.

I just got a little pissed at how

Also, I SERIOUSLY wanted to punch Wade in the face.

So that's why this lost a star.

Re-read Nov 2025
It was fun to revisit this one, because I seriously love Emma, the FMC. Unfortunately, this book doesn't do her justice. She gets damseled more than a few times, and it's always because someone from the LOST team decides to leave her somewhere for her "safety" despite her arguing to be included in whatever they are doing ... which ends up backfiring terribly. It's frustrating because she deserves way better.

Still, it was fun, and did a good job of not totally telegraphing the villain - you knew it was going to be one of 3 people, and it was great to watch it all play out.

Twisted
4 Stars

Emma Castille is a "reader" not in the psychic sense, but rather in the vein of Sherlock Holmes or Patrick Jane (The Mentalist). She joins forces with former FBI agent, Dean Bannon, in the search for a missing sixteen year old girl who appears to be the latest victim of a serial killer in the Big Easy.

The second book in Cynthia Eden's LOST series hits all the right notes. Set in New Orleans (a favorite of mine), the story utilizes the gothic atmosphere and spooky vibe of the city to enhance the serial killer plot.

The chemistry between Emma and Dean is tangible and their romance is more believable than the couple in the first installment.

Although the suspense is gripping and the villain a seriously nasty piece of work who enjoys playing with his prey, it is, nevertheless, quite easy to guess his identity. That said, the action is non-stop, and the climax and resolution are exciting and satisfying.

The hints at relationships to come are very intriguing and I look forward to continuing with the series.

ARC was generously provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the new series by Cynthia Eden ‘LOST’.

Dean Bannon is a former FBI agent. He now works at LOST which an agency that finds missing people. He joined the LOST after his last in FBI ended badly to say the least. Now years later, he is searching for a young girl and his past seems to be catching upto him.

Emma Castille is a fortune teller in New Orleans. She spend her teenage years living on the streets after her father’s death in the hands of a killer.

Their paths cross when a sixteen year old goes missing and on it’s search Dean meets Emma, who seems to be the last person who saw her. Now, the serial killer seems to have Emma in his sights as his next victim.

I really liked them together, the cynical and blunt FBI agent and the equally cynical but charming fortune teller. Emma is a very interesting character, she’s a mentalist (you know a female version of Patrick Jane from the mentalist), noticing things other people ignore. I really liked her, she was a strong, independent woman who knew how to get what she wanted. A perfect counterpart to Dean. Dean was also a great hero, he was possessive and protective of Emma. They were both attracted to each other from the moment they met but there was the fact Dean thought Emma was a con artist which made their earlier interaction interesting to read.

Of course, the course to their happy ending was not easy, it was filled with twists and turns, a serial killer and an ex-boyfriend. The book also had the passion and the connection I have come to expect and love from Cynthia Eden’s books.

I really enjoyed the suspense part of the book as well, Cynthia gave hints but we didn’t know who the killer was or what possible motivation could be the cause of his behaviour.

Overall, I’m really enjoying the series and can’t wait for the next one Shattered which is going to be about Sarah (the psychologist in the team, she kind of reminds of Dr. Hunt from Body of Proof) and Jax (a criminal? and Emma’s ex) out in October. Happy Reading!

Twisted provides a thrill ride of unexpected turns that will knock you breathless.

Dean Bannon, an agent of Last Option Search Team (LOST), heads to the New Orleans to track down a runaway only to come face to face with fortune teller, Emma Castille. She is his only lead on the runaway's where a bouts. Dean finds Emma just in time because she has just found herself in the sights of a serial killer's with a M.O. is scarily similar to the serial killer that drove Dean out of the FBI.

A delectable combination of mystery, thriller and romance with a touch of paranormal, Twisted was a page turner.

Still phenomenal. Thank god the third book isn't out yet, or I wouldn't even have taken the time to write these lines....

I find that romance & suspense don't really mix well in books. Either the love story will take too much space, or the "mystery" will not be mysterious at all because the plot is too easy to figure out. But Cynthia Eden found the perfect balance : she surprises us with wonderful twists AND still manages to make the love story believable & sweet.
Amazing, I have nothing else to say.

The second book in the LOST series by Cynthia Eden. Dean Bannon comes to New Orleans to search for a missing teen. There he meets Emma Castile, a woman who tells fortunes on the streets. Emma encountered the missing teen and decides to help with the case. When it looks like she is next, Dean is more than ready to play bodyguard, even though Emma insists she doesn't need it.

Different characters but the story was very similar to the first book in the series, Broken. I still enjoyed it though and will happily continue the series.

I firmly believe that Cynthia Eden lives by the old adage, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. In book two of her Lost Series Ms. Eden once again takes us for a walk on the dark side. We ride along as she shares the twisted mind of the truly evil.

But she doesn't just bring us evil, she always adds loyalty and friendship, love and forever ties that bind us deeper than any law or rule. While she cloaks her books in a curtain of darkness she offers us the light of love to shine through.

In Twisted we get the story of Dean Bannon former FBI agent and current member of LOST. LOST is an agency that people go to when all hope is gone. When no one is looking for their loved one. And the one goal of the LOST Team? To bring them home. Sometimes, sadly, in death but they never stop looking.

Emma Castille is considered a con artist by most but really she is an extremely well trained observant young woman. Her father died while trying to save two teenage girls and Emma has been on her own ever since. She doesn't trust the police, the Feds or most of the world but she is willing to help for a chance that maybe they might save a missing girl. But her life is forever altered by two men, one the FBI agent determined to find a missing girl and the other, the man who took her.

Dean Bannon is just a good guy. He is a true knight. A man destined to be the good guy. But after fighting red tape and loosing one too many victims, Dean left the FBI. When his latest missing person is somehow tied to a man who supposedly died on that last case Dean is pulled back into the muddy waters of the FBI. And when a woman who fascinates him is suddenly considered next on said psycho's list.. Dean is forced to work with people he really never wanted to see again.

Let's just say wow, Wow, WOW!!! Another book that I couldn't put down. Another book that took me walking deeper into darkness than I would have ever imagined enjoying. I do worry about Ms. Eden, her mind is a scary place *grins* I mean how does she come up with this?

One thing Ms. Eden's suspense books are best known for is their twists and turns, never sure who the bad guy is and left to the last minute to find out. I have spent many hours reading her books trying to figure out who the real bad guy is and am usually way off beat. This time though, I figured it out pretty soon and still LOVED this book. Who it was wasn't as important as how it all played out.

Another thing that Ms. Eden excels at is her ability to intertwine her passions. The dark passions of murder and mayhem weave seamlessly with lust and desire. A path Dean and Emma walked brilliantly.

I can never have enough of Ms. Eden and am only a little peeved (Seriously peeved) that we have to wait until October for Book 3. From the teaser in Twisted, Shattered is going to bring down the house!

If you haven't begun your love affair with all things Cynthia Eden, it's never too late to start!

Review posted on Got Fiction?

Dean Bannon has been hired to find a young girl who the police have written off as a runaway. But that’s what he and his team at the LOST (Last Option Search Team) do, they find the missing. What he doesn’t expect to find is a sexy little fortune teller who could either break the case, or break his heart….or maybe both.

Emma Castille saw Julia on the night she was taken, but she doesn’t know that. She only knows that the girl was afraid and didn’t want to go home. When Dean shows up flashing the girl’s picture around, she realizes that the girl may have been killed. She wants to help find her.

But that night, when she gets home, her house is trashed and scrawled on the wall is the phrase, “You’re next.” More terrifying than the threat is the fact that she’s seen that somewhere else…in the abandoned building she thought Julia had been staying in. Is this a serial killer at work?

Dean feels strangely protective of Emma, who isn’t psychic, but she can read people. She notices the things most people don’t. (this part was pretty cool, and kind of reminded me of that TV show Psych where he’s just incredibly good at picking things up). And when she notices those things, she’s spot-on. Even the LOST team profiler is amazed at Emma’s talent, stating that while she can get into a killer’s head, Emma can figure out everyone else.

The cast of characters in this book is fantastic. We once more see the LOST team, and there’s a new man around…a certain bad boy who runs the bad side of town, and he might have his eyes set on Sarah (a member of the LOST team). I think Jax was an unexpected find in this series. He’s dark, and gritty, and incredibly sexy. Kind of like New Orleans. I can’t wait for the next book Broken.

Cynthia Eden delivers again! An intense Romantic Suspense set in the gritty dark corners of New Orleans, Eden steamed up the pages, and kept me glued to the book. Grab this book ASAP! You won’t want to miss out on one of the best Romantic Suspense series out there.

I'm really enjoying the LOST Series and all of the great characters of the organization. The main character in this one was Dean, a former FBI agent and LOST employee, who is in New Orleans to find a runaway teen. During his search, he comes across Emma Castille. Emma believes that something bad has happened to Julia, the teen. Dean is skeptical of Emma due to her unsavory past, but he soon find himself falling hard for this woman. Emma feels the same, but it becomes clear that they are both in terrible danger from the man who took Julia.

Dean and Emma were both great characters, and while I thought they developed a relationship quickly after starting with contention between them, I did like them together. I loved Dean's protective instincts toward Emma, and her sweetness and faith in Dean's goodness. The storyline was interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat. There were a few surprises along the way.

I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series. All of the characters of LOST are intriguing, and I'm anticipating learning more about all of them.

3.5 stars. I must admit, I only read this because I was curious how h and H of book 3 meet each other - I love when couples come from different backgrounds. Unfortunately h+H of book 2 aren't this different, maybe that's the reason why I couldn't connect with them. The side characters were far more interesting. The story was good, especially the last third was suspenseful and I couldn't put it down. Now I'm very looking forward to book 3 :)

REVIEW: 4.25 stars--TWISTED is the second installment in Cynthia Eden’s adult, contemporary LOST romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for LOST (Last Option Search Team). This is former FBI special agent Dean Bannon, and Emma Castille’s storyline. Although TWISTED is the second storyline in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from several third person points of view including the killer himself, TWISTED focuses on the search for a serial killer in New Orleans, Louisiana- a man Dean Bannon believed to be dead. Dean Bannon has struggled for five years with the death of an informant caught in a serial killer’s web but with the recent number of missing men and women, Dean believes the killer has returned and has set his sights on Emma Castille. What ensues is a developing relationship between Dean and Emma as Dean convinces Emma that he is her best protection against a psychotic killer. When the FBI become involved things go from bad to worse as Dean’s prior history with the Bureau makes for some unwelcome partnerships and exchange of information.

The relationship between Dean and Emma is quick to develop; an immediate attraction between two people whose lives are about to be targeted by a man seeking revenge for the sins of the past. When a woman fitting Emma’s description is attacked and left for dead, Dean and the agents from LOST begin an investigation of their own.

The colorful and charismatic secondary characters include the members and agent of LOST: LOST’s owner and lead investigator Gabe Spencer, forensic specialist Victoria Palmer, psychiatrist and profiler Dr. Sarah Jacobs, and former detective Wade Monroe; FBI agents Kevin McCormack and James Elroy, as well as a Julia Finney-the young woman who becomes the target of a serial killer and the FBI. We are also introduced to Jax Fontaine-a hard as nails bad boy, bar owner who has eyes and a protective side for Sarah Jacobs. Jax is introduced as Emma’s ex lover, and his presence adds a little twist of jealousy to Emma and Dean’s relationship.

TWISTED is another suspense filled storyline with a ‘twisted’ path to reveal. Although I guessed the serial killer’s identity early on, some readers may be kept in suspense until the clues begin to reveal. Expectation, presumption and the possibility of two killers on the loose, adds another layer of unexpected tension and drama.

Cynthia Eden has the ability to connect with her readers; she knows what we like and continues to deliver with every storyline and series.

Personal Thoughts:

Reading this book is like watching an awesome episode of "Criminal Minds" with the plus of a good romance added to it.

If you love both... jump right in and read it!!

Seriously
IT'S SOOO GOOOD!

LOST aka Last Option Search Team specializes in tracking down missing people and Dean Bannon joined to escape FBI's bureaucracy and delays that take away precious time when dealing with missing people cases.

LOST never stops looking.

Dean never lets his guard down and when he meets Emma and her ability to see right through people, he's wary.

He's also very attracted to this gorgeous woman with a dark and difficult past.

Their chemistry is palpable and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat.

⭐ 5 Stars ⭐

*Twisted by Cynthia Eden is book #2 in the LOST series but can be read as a standalone.

After I read Broken last month I couldn't wait to get my hands on Twisted, the second book in Cynthia Eden's LOST series... And let me tell you, for as much as I loved Broken, I think I loved Twisted even more.

Thanks to her father, Emma has always been good at reading people. She doesn't claim to be psychic, she just happens to see things most people don't... Like the fear in a runaways eyes, for example. When Dean shows up at Emma's stand in New Orleans he's expecting nothing but a con artist... But he couldn't be more wrong.

Dean is an ex-FBI agent turned member of LOST, who we met in Broken. He's in New Orleans looking for Julia, a teenage runaway, when he meets Emma. The attraction between the two is immediate but Dean's in New Orleans to work, not to give in to the attraction simmering between the two.

At first I wasn't really sure how I felt about Dean. He seemed a little too uptight for my liking but when he lets go of his control... Holy hotness! That man is something else!!! And Emma... I knew from the beginning that I was going to love her and I was not disappointed. She's strong, and sassy, and really stands up for the people she cares about.

Of course my favorite part of Cynthia Edens books is getting into the killers head and she did not disappoint with this one. There were some serious twists that I didn't see coming, some heart pounding suspense that had me on the edge of my seat, and when the killer's identity was finally revealed? I can't say that I was shocked, necessarily, because I had an inkling, but I was definitely not disappointed with how everything played out.

I really wish there was an epilogue so we can see how Dean and Emma handle their relationship after the drama dies down but that's just me being greedy. Overall though, I absolutely loved Twisted and I can't wait for Shattered, the next book in the LOST series.

TWISTED was a great addition to the LOST series. I may have enjoyed this one a little better due to the more direct plot. Dean and Emma were just as great together as Gabe and Eve.

Although Dean believes Emma is a fraud making a living off being a psychic, he can’t help his immediate attraction to her and when she has information on the 16 year old girl he’s looking for, it gives him the opportunity to keep an eye on her.

Emma doesn’t claim to be psychic, but she can make deductions based off the observations she’s good at noticing. Trained with her father, who didn’t always stay on the right side of the law, Emma enjoys helping others and when it’s clear that the scared 16 year she met last week is missing, she’s determined to work as partners with Dean.

The killer sets his sights on Emma, but it later becomes apparent that his true target is to hurt Dean. An old grudge fuels the rage.

I loved Dean’s strong protectiveness with Emma, especially when she’s taken. The team had a tough time with the FBI in this book and that made Dean’s choice more dramatic in siding with Emma.

I liked that Eden didn’t flood the book with suspects. Jax was introduced to set up the next book and he made for a very interesting character. I can’t wait to read about him.

I enjoy Cynthia Eden's romantic suspense books. She does the suspense very well and usually has you guessing as to the killer. In the first book the most obvious character turned out not to be the killer but in this one, the most obvious one was the killer, albeit with a twist. It worked for me though. The suspense was very entertaining.

As to the romance, I always feel as if I want just a little something more than I get with her. While I liked the love story I wasn't overly fond of the hero and heroine.

Regardless, it was still a good story. I am anxiously awaiting Shattered getting to me from the library. I am definitely excited about reading about Sarah and Jax together. Yay!

Can't wait for Sarah and Jax's story next; their's is going to be one very dark and complicated relationship by the looks of it...

Audio Book. DNF due to terrible, horrible, awful narrating. The narrator was so melodramatic that she continually took me out of the story.

Also, I had trouble following why Dean was so attracted to the h (whose name escapes me) that he could barely control himself. It was weird. I may try again in print.

I crown Cynthia Eden the queen of mystery and suspense with a side of alpha male/ strong heroine romance.

I just can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this book. Before I was a nasty smut girl, I was a die hard reader of James Patterson, Lisa Gardner and Mary Higgens Clark. I grew into a lover of love....and hot sex (yes!) but from time to time I miss the good old days of heart pounding suspense and whodunit. So when I discovered Cynthia Eden, it was like when I discovered this bakery near my house that made thick raisin bread with just 8g of net carbs per serving. I was like WHAT, I can have everything I love without running 10 miles??? (which let's face it, was never gonna happen). That's how Twisted is for a reader like me. So, if you are one of us, you need to get Twisted and whatever else you can find by Cynthia Eden and step away from the treadmill.

Twisted is second in Eden's "Lost series" but its a total standalone so you can start the series right here if you want. FYI, I read the first book in the series too and nothing in this book repeats or spoils that one so you can read out of order if you want. Twisted is Dean and Emma's story. Dean is a former FBI agent who struggles with the knowledge that he just can't save everybody. Emma is a...mentalist (you know like the guy on the show. Not psychic but abnormally observant) who is also hunted by the memory of the people she couldn't save. The two meet and join forces to save one particular young girl who has gone missing in New Orleans. It turns out that some things are exactly what they seem and others are not at all what they seem as Dean and Emma try to beat an invisible clock.

The plot of this book is so well conceived, I just can't say enough about it. Cynthia offers us multiple explanations, story lines and potential outcomes and we just keep guessing. The thing that I love about this book is that even the things that you are sure of contain subtle twists that add layers to the story and maintains the suspense of the plot.

As far as the romance component, Emma and Dean pretty much want each other from the moment they lay eyes on one another. Despite Emma being strong and self sufficient, Dean is still depicted as the alpha hero that I love. Dean is determined to protect Emma and damn the torpedoes and that's the language that I love. The sex is good enough. I'm used to stronger erotic content but for what you get from the rest of this book, the sex is just a very nice frosting.

Another thing that I really like about this book is the emphasis on how so many people go missing and nobody notices. It verges on a socioeconomic commentary about how we view the invisible members of our society. I appreciated the nuance of the author including that information in the story line without detracting from the overall mystery or romance.

I was worried that this book would be rushed because it came out pretty quickly after the last one. My fears were completely assuaged. I actually liked Twisted better than Book 1 in the Lost Series (though I really like that one too). I highly recommend this book and this author in general.
