The Belle Morte series reaches its heartstopping conclusion as vampires confront danger from within and beyond their house—a must-read for fans of LGBTQ+ vampire tales like The Lost Girls and Youngblood, and swoon-worthy dramas like Crave and Twilight.

Return to the world of Belle Morte one last time with the epic series conclusion, as vampires and humans join forces to save the world and the people they love.

Where once vampires were celebrities and humans their eager donors, now the backlash has begun. Protests are springing up all across the country, with people calling for the end of the donor system and for vampires to be evicted from their Houses. As the last vampire donor in the UK, Jason Grant is determined not to let that happen. Vampires have become his friends, and he's going to fight to defend them in any way he can. Nothing is going to distract him . . . except Gideon Hartwright, the gorgeous vampire that Jason has pined for from the moment he arrived at Belle Morte.

Gideon has spent a long time hiding who he is, but with Jason's help, he's ready to start facing the shadows of his past. However with vampires fast becoming public enemy number one, the wellbeing of the newly turned vampire children in their hands, and a powerful vampire lurking in the daylight, Gideon and Jason’s blossoming romance is threatened when the differences between humans and vampires become the centerpiece of their relationship.

“Changes,” by Bella Higgin

I really liked this series; it was so good and filled with so many characters. I loved how each book was centered on a couple that were opposites of each other, but it works. This one was about Gideon and Jason! I loved their characters so much and was so happy to get to see more of them and their internal thoughts. I would rate the entire series 4-5 stars each because I just love the world that was created and all the people in it. This book gets a 5 out of 5 stars from me, I loved pacing, characters, plot, tension, drama, vampires, politics, all of it.

Disclosure: I received an advance review copy of Changes from Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group | Wattpad Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Trigger Warnings: mild violence, discrimination, prejudice

Changes closes out the Belle Morte series with an inviting mix of romance, friendship, and rising tension, and it was exactly the bit of escapism I hoped for when I picked it up. I was drawn in by the cute and dramatic tone promised in the summary, along with my love of LGBTQ+ stories, and the book offered plenty of that charm. Bella Higgin’s writing is engaging and easy to sink into, even if certain moments move quickly enough to feel a little rushed.

Since I hadn’t read the earlier books, the shift from fame to backlash for the vampires felt like a continuation of an arc established before this volume. Even so, the story’s focus on prejudice, fear, and the strain those forces put on relationships came through clearly. Jason’s devotion to the community that has become his found family brings warmth to the narrative, while Gideon’s slow steps toward vulnerability make their connection feel gentle and genuine. Their relationship highlights the difficulty of love when the world outside is loudly unsure of who deserves acceptance.

Although this book did not leave me with strong lingering emotions or a single unforgettable scene, it was consistently pleasant and immersive. Realizing mid-read that it was part of a series made me wish I had started from the beginning, and I imagine those who have followed the journey from book one will find extra satisfaction in how this finale ties the threads together.

Readers who enjoy dramatic romance, thoughtful character dynamics, and LGBTQ+ vampire stories should find plenty to appreciate here. It is a quick, comforting read with just enough tension to keep the pages turning.

I went into Changes by Bella Higgin without having read the earlier books in the series, and I wasn’t sure what to expect — but I was quickly pulled in. The story has this raw emotional energy that makes it hard to put down. Even though I didn’t have all the background, I never felt totally lost. Bella Higgin gives just enough context to help new readers stay grounded, while still keeping the story moving forward.

What really stood out to me was how emotionally charged the relationships are. The characters are going through a lot, and their connections — especially the romantic ones — feel intense, complicated, and very real. You can feel the weight of past decisions, even if you haven’t been there for every step. That emotional tension carries the story and gives it real depth.

The writing is quick and engaging, and the pacing keeps things rolling. It’s the kind of book where the drama unfolds scene by scene, and you just want to keep flipping pages to see what happens next. There were moments where I felt like I was missing some of the emotional payoff that longtime readers might feel, but overall, it still worked for me.

The only reason this isn’t a five-star read is that a few moments felt slightly rushed or emotionally overwhelming — like they needed a bit more breathing room. But honestly, that’s a small issue in an otherwise strong, compelling book.

If you love stories full of emotion, layered characters, and relationships that feel messy in a real way, Changes is absolutely worth picking up — even if, like me, you’re starting a little late to the series.

Quick Summary: An end as a beginning, paranormal T/YA

My Review: Changes by Bella Higgin is book #4 in the Belle Morte series. It is scheduled for release on 12/2/25.

About the Book: "The Belle Morte series reaches its heartstopping conclusion as vampires confront danger from within and beyond their house..."

In My Own Words: Clash and connect situations come to a head and the fight for unity rages on

My Final Say: What Bella Higgin has gotten right with this entire series is the world building, the character profiles and struggles, the taut relationships, the emotional arcs, the dark tones and antagonistic angles, the tense battles, and the love. This book was on par. With that said, what makes this book stand out is the fact that it delves more so into an LGBTQ+ storyline, featuring a relationship between Gideon and Jason.

In my opinion, this story has deeper messages beneath the surface that relate to identity, choices, acceptance, tolerance, & freedom from the past, freedom from traditions, and freedom from self.

One criticism that I do have with this particular installment is the fact that it contains more mature content that is not appropriate for all YA readers. I believe this should be noted in the author/publisher notes for full transparency. Further, I believe that the book might be better represented as a NA versus a T/YA, because of the aforementioned.

Other: Readers who enjoy paranormal fiction, forbidden love stories, found family relationships, and tension laden power plays and dynamics may like this novel, as well as the overall series.

Rating: 4/5

Status/Level: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Content Warning: Yes
Note: This volume is not suitable for minors, due to on page relations. Parents should be aware.

Thank you to the author, to the publisher (Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group | Wattpad Books), and to NetGalley for providing access to a digital ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review. The words I have shared are my own and have been voluntarily submitted. I appreciate the opportunity to read this final Belle Morte novel. It has been a whirlwind adventure that I am glad I could take.

Changes brings the Belle Morte series to a dramatic, emotionally charged close, blending social unrest, vampire politics, and a slow-burning romance between Jason and Gideon. The rising tensions between humans and vampires create engaging stakes, and the focus on Gideon confronting his past adds welcome depth to the character arcs. However, the story occasionally struggles to balance its many plot threads, with some emotional beats feeling rushed amid the broader conflict. Still, the book delivers satisfying moments of connection, bravery, and closure, making it an enjoyable, if uneven, final chapter for fans invested in the series’ blend of romance and supernatural drama.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I went into Changes by Bella Higgin without reading the earlier books and was surprised by how quickly it hooked me. The story feels raw and real, full of messy, heartfelt emotion that just sticks with you. The relationships are complicated in the best way, honest, flawed, and deeply human. A few parts felt a bit rushed, but overall it’s an emotional, quietly powerful read that stays with you.

Utterly disappointing. The WHOLE book is about J & G’s relationship. No depth, no real tension. Seems to dismiss very quickly what we’ve seen previously from G. The backstory got resolved way to quickly. The most interesting part of the book was over in a second, just going back to J&G having the same s*x seen a few more times.
I ordered it the day it came out and I’m So disappointed after tome 2 and 3 .This one just felt that the author wanted to get spicy.

Thank you Wattpad for the arc via edelweiss. I was not a fan of this sequel. It is all about Jason and Gideon. Not as interesting as Edmund and Renee. The introduction of the big bad fell flat at the end.
