Hey, gay female vampire! I mean, why should sparkly dudes and emo brooders (some overlap between those two types does exist) have all the fun? And, indeed, fun this is.

Matilda waltzes into Luttinson Manor to begin working as a maid to the pale and sickly August. While there are a few ground rules like not leaving the bedroom after midnight, what could go wrong?

This is a little strange, but pleasantly so, like a savoury custard. Once Matilda figures out August is a vampire and they dance around the fact that August is not about to let that secret (or Matilda) leave the castle, things slowly start getting better.

First, August is not quite herself when she’s in need of a quick sip of blood. Second, she quickly finds that Matilda’s tastes rather better than any other. Thus, Matilda decides to stay in the lap of luxury.

But, it isn’t long before she also finds herself in August’s luxurious lap and the gay hits the fan. There’s a general air of not taking this entirely too seriously, there are literally ghost maids who work shift in the evenings, and it helps the silly go down pretty smooth.

Matilda determines that her out is helping August become human again, while also providing her with a little extra dollop of blood here and there. They devise a clever scheme to work on August’s restraint, which soon goes out the window because somebody gets super horny. And not who you’d expect.

This works because the leads get more interesting as they go. Matilda is competent and practical, but also kind of a mess when it comes to her crush. She has a gallant side as well that makes her a little more interesting than a one-note maid type.

August literally has two sides to her personality, obviously, and she’s actively trying to resist one of them. She’s less worried about Matilda than her own lack of control when she’s hungry and the two of them start accidentally pushing one another’s buttons in due course.

While I wouldn’t call this a gut-buster, the comedy definitely has a couple of strong moments and some very choice dialogue. Matilda’s initial attempts to remove her curse, in particular, are hilariously flawed.

I wouldn’t sweat this if you want anything highly dramatic, but it grew on me in a way I found pretty charming. By the ending when things start to get a little more romantic and that was a welcome change.

This starts out a little pedestrian, but I do think the story gets better as it goes. It could do with a few more ground rules, yet makes a good case for continuing with it. I also liked that Matilda is less a victim or put-upon servant than she first appears.

Plus, it as a dog and cat named Fudge and Toffee.

3 stars - closer to that extra half star than not. For a story that seems based on the mangaka’s desire to draw tall women, this is genuinely better than it has a right to be.

This manga has a cute idea with an even more cute execution; I really like the art style. I also liked the dynamic that Matilda has with August thus far, along with, Matilda’s dynamic with more side characters. It was also interesting to see the subtle things that were hinted at even in this first volume.
Overall, I’m hopeful for this series even though it’s only 4 volumes.

Extremeeeeeeeelllyyyyyy mid.

You can guess what happens in this just from the general concept - all the basic tropes of a vampire/manor romance but make it girls. The only thing that's fun about it is the lightest amount of spice because vampires sucking blood = inherently sexy. But it's 13+ so it's not like it goes anywhere.

це було напрочуд миленько! історії з подібним премісом завжди дуже hit or miss, але тут все було доволі симпатично. обов'язково чекну продовження, коли вийде ☝️😌
