Jim Davis was born in Fairmount, Indiana, near Marion, where he grew up on a small farm with his father James William Davis, mother Anna Catherine (Carter) Davis, brother Dave, and 25 cats. Davis' childhood on a farm parallels the life of his cartoon character Garfield's owner, Jon Arbuckle, who was also raised on a farm with his parents and a brother, Doc Boy. Jon, too, is a cartoonist, and also celebrates his birthday on July 28. Davis attended Ball State University. While attending Ball State, he became a member of the Theta Xi fraternity. He earned the dubious honor of earning one of the lowest cumulative grade point averages in the history of the university, an honor incidentally shared with Late Show host David Letterman.
Davis as of 2007 resides in Muncie, Indiana, where he and his staff produce Garfield under his company, Paws, Inc., begun in 1981. He was married to Carolyn, a singer and elementary teacher whom he met while both were attending college, and has a son named James with her. However, the couple divorced, and Davis since 2000 has been married to Jill, Paws' senior vice president of licensing, who has worked there approximately 25 years.
Ironically, Davis did not own cats when he started Garfield because of Carolyn's allergies, but they owned a Labrador retriever named Molly. With Jill, the family has expanded to include children Ashley and Chris; three grandchildren, Chloe, Carly and Cody; cats, Spunky and Nermal; and a dog, Pooky.

One of the most important things to know about me: I love Garfield. I’m a Garfield stan for life. He does no wrong. He is perfection. He gives me life.
In the latest collection of comics, Garfield’s 78th book named Garfield Crash Diet, the comics are so funny that my tween was concerned about how hard and loud I was laughing.
Jim Davis, you are a gift to the world. Thank you for existing. Thank you for being you. The world would not be the same without you. I would not be the same without you.

Another collection of Garfield's antics about food, laziness, Mondays, and interacting with Jon, Odie, and others.
This was just what I've come to expect from Garfield. This collection featured Garfield's 45th birthday, a bit more Monday cartoons than normal, and there was one comic that included some of the farm characters from the U.S. Acres comic (who also appeared in the TV show Garfield & Friends). As someone who grew up on Garfield & Friends it was nice to see a cameo from some of them.

Violence: Jon gets attacked by ocean creatures. in one comic, but he's fine a moment later. Garfield punts Nermal in one, but again, they are cartoon characters so all is fine.
Ethnic diversity: Jon and Liz are white American.

Garfield is not good at dieting, but that's ok. He is good at being entertaining.

I really enjoyed this hilarious, fun, and clean book! Although I feel like the jokes themselves weren’t quite as funny as Jim Davis’ other Garfield books, it was still a great book!
