A woman with steamy monster fantasies. Her new wolven stepbrother. One house.
Bri plans on a normal year finishing grad school then working for her father’s company, as he’s always expected of her. However, when her new stepbrother, a wolven straight out of her hottest fantasies, suddenly needs a place to live, she scrambles to make space for him, sacrificing the project room where she intended to build a future she truly wants.
From the moment Remy takes in Bri’s scent, he’s drawn toward his stepsister, and his new goal is to see her smile as much as possible. Yet, he’s haunted by a past relationship, making him afraid of getting too close to Bri.
Can they live together without succumbing to their mutual attraction? Or is it inevitable that they become tied together, in more ways than one?
Step-Knotting is a sweet and spicy monster romance with romcom vibes.
I absolutely adored Step-Knotting!! This was my first read from Maya and I can’t wait to check out her other books! This taboo, monster romcom was so much fun! While I laughed constantly, I also felt ALL the feelings! This book is so sweet, steamy and incredibly emotional. Bri is doing overtime trying to make everyone happy except herself & Remy would do anything to make her the happiest woman in the world. They have the best relationship and I just love them for eachother!! This would be a wonderful dip into the world of taboo romances for first time readers wanting to see if they need their own step-wolf🤭😘
I was liking it in the beginning, but after they had sex for the first time, it was mostly them using every single reason to fuck and it got a bit boring honestly.
There were a few things I disliked. Firstly, I disliked how many times Amanda was mentioned, especially since he'd remember her immediately after being intimate with the heroine. Amanda never appears physically, but the hero thinks of her constantly. I wouldn't say that his lingering feelings for her were too strong, but she was still on his mind. And he does it well into the other half of the book. He didn't wanna knot Bri, and I liked her reaction to that btw, but he knotted Amanda and he said how knotting was very intimate and creates a stronger bind between lovers. And it has taken him so long to knot Bri, even though that was one of her biggest fantasies. Now, I would've found it romantic that she waited for him to be ready for such a big step, because it was clear that he cared about her, but there was Amanda and his past with her, so them waiting didn't hit as it was supposed to. Oh, but not to worry, even if he didn't save anything physical for her, she's only done anal with toys, so he's her first in that. And Bri... I got really fucking annoyed with her too. She had so many opportunities to tell her dad that she didn't wanna work with him, but she missed every single one, just so she could make a big scene and yell and attack him. And her behavior after her presentation. She came off so spoiled and entitled. Just because her daddy owns a company doesn't mean she can do whatever and be praised and not questioned. Those people had the right to question her and be worried about investing money and time into something unproductive. Also, that orgy/exhibitionist scene... It was not it. What made it so unlikable was the place and the audience/participants. It happened in the locker room with some of Remy's teammates watching and Bri's best friend. It kinda felt coercive and uncomfortable. I mean, Bri entered the locker room as soon as the game ended, so the guys didn't even have the time too cool off or anything. And sure, they said everyone who didn't want to watch could go, but Remy was their captain, so some could've felt pressured. And they did it in front of their friends, with Bri's friend and her bf having sex next to them, while Remy's other friends watched and jerked off. It would've been hot to me if it happened in front of strangers, but they were all good friends. It was uncomfortable. And them opening a sex club just so they'd have audience to fuck in front of.. I don't know. Also, the coach had all the right in the world to be upset at seeing his players having an orgy in a locker room. Him only blaming the girls was wrong and worthy of reprimand, but he had the right to be upset.
Too sum it all up, I liked the beginning, but I hated the direction the story took, as well as, Bri's character.

Step Knotting completely charmed me; it’s spicy, sweet, and surprisingly tender in all the best ways. This monster romance walks the line between forbidden and heartwarming so perfectly. Remy, our wolven love interest, is hands down one of the softest, most respectful MMCs I’ve come across in a while. Think golden retriever energy, but with claws; and I adored every second of it.
And Bri? She’s incredibly relatable. A people pleasing grad student trying to figure out her own path, not the one others have laid out for her. The forced proximity between her and Remy (hello, new step-siblings with major unresolved tension) makes everything so deliciously awkward and tense… in the absolute best way. The moment they start catching feelings they know they shouldn’t have? Game over. The tension is palpable.
Their chemistry is off the charts, but what makes this story shine is the balance between Remy’s gentle nature and Bri’s quiet inner fire. There’s heat, yes -plenty of it- but it’s wrapped in humor, genuine emotion, and a bit of angst that makes their connection even more satisfying. I loved the monster romance elements (Remy’s scenting? Swoon) it added just the right amount of uniqueness without taking away from the emotional core of their relationship.
This book has total romcom energy with a monster twist: flirty, messy in a good way, and overflowing with heart. I’m already crossing my fingers for more in this series, because this world and these characters definitely have more stories to tell. I’d read about them again and again!
Step-Knotting is a spicy, sweet, and surprisingly tender monster romance that toes the line between taboo and heartwarming. Remy might be wolven, but he’s also one of the softest, most respectful MMCs I’ve read in a while, truly the green flag golden retriever of monster book boyfriends. And Bri? She’s a relatable, people-pleasing grad student just trying to carve out a future that actually belongs to her instead of doing what everyone else wants her to do.
The forced proximity setup works beautifully, especially when paired with all the tension that comes from being new step-siblings who really shouldn’t be thinking the thoughts they’re thinking. But oh, do they think them. The chemistry is undeniable, and the dynamic between Remy’s sweetness and Bri’s hidden spark makes for some very fun reading. There’s plenty of spice here, but it’s layered with humor, emotional depth, and just enough angst to make it satisfying. The monster romance touches (like Remy’s scenting instincts) give it an extra layer of charm without ever overshadowing the core connection.
This is monster romance with romcom energy, flirty, a little bit messy, and full of heart. I’m already hoping for another book in this series, because this world (and these characters) have more to give.
Taboo? Yes. Kinky? Absolutely. But Step-Knotting is also a whole lot more.
The relationship between Bri and Remy was sweet as honey and just as addictive. Remy is the big, soft hearted goofball who wears his emotions on his sleeve, and Bri is a neurotic genius wrapped in anxiety and sharp wit. Together? They’re electric. They balance each other perfectly, chaos and calm, brains and brawn, and a soft place to land when future plans have her crumbling, and Remy is there with arms wide open.
The slow burn romance between them built beautifully into scorching intensity, but what really stuck with me was the emotional depth. Remy never once let Bri fall. He was constant, gentle, and reassuring, the kind of safe place she never knew she needed. And he made damn sure she knew he wasn't going anywhere.
The side characters were just as incredible. Sylvia? Iconic. Sass, spark, and sensuality, I’m dying for more of her. And Remy’s teammates, Onyx and Titus, gave the story even more personality and promise for future chaos.
If you’re into a bit of monster kink, tender emotional support, and a romance that builds from careful touches to blazing heat, Step-Knotting is one you don’t want to miss.
Thank you to Maya for providing me with an ARC of this book you hit all my kinks.
If you’ve ever thought “I don’t know if monster step-sibling romance is for me…”—congrats, this book is here to ruin you in the softest, dirtiest way possible.
Bri is that relatable, people-pleasing grad student who’s drowning under everyone’s expectations but her own. Remy? A wolven golden retriever in the streets, filthy knotting machine in the sheets. He bakes, he respects boundaries, and he will scent you like you’re the only thing keeping him alive. I was GONE.
✨ Tropes & Vibes:
Taboo, but make it tender
Forced proximity (hello, roommate tension 👀)
“I’d do anything to make you happy” MMC energy
Green flag monster boyfriend (with claws)
Spice that goes from aww to OH real quick
Emotional support wolf > emotional support human
And the side characters?? Sylvia is pure ICONIC sass, and Remy’s teammates Onyx & Titus? Walking chaos I desperately need more of.
This book is flirty, filthy, and surprisingly full of feels. Come for the monster kink. Stay for the emotional depth and a wolven step-brother who will love you right.
📚 If you’ve ever wanted to dip a toe (or more) into taboo monster romance, Step-Knotting is your sign.
Based in a world where werewolves, succubi, vampires and minotaurs live, date and marry with humans as if it is normal. We have the human FMC and werewolf MMC (personally I'd call him a wolfman) that are university students who have recently became step siblings and started to live together. Of course they can't resist each other for long...
The characters are very... nice. The MMC is every nice thing you could possibly want in a perfect guy. Both MCs are well adjusted, functional (opposed to dysfunctional), and emotionally mature people who are nice, with nice friends and nice family. It's all very sweet, cute and... Nice.
There is a fair amount of smut and it's pretty good, a little too much role playing for my personal taste, but a lot of the characters fantasies are explored and a variety of kinks are covered in this book. There is, of course, werewolf specific smut involving knotting too, which was fun.
I could absolutely imagine people who would love this book and give it a 5 star but sadly, it just isn't my vibe at all. I'm more of a morally grey, red flag and conflict driven reader so all the niceness is just not for me.
Despite my rating, I would definitely still recommend this book but only to people who enjoy sickly sweet MMCs with their monster smut.
If you’ve ever thought, “Monster step-sibling romance probably isn’t for me…” — this book is here to gently take your hand, drag you into the woods, and absolutely ruin you in the softest, dirtiest, most emotional way possible. Bri is that painfully relatable, people-pleasing grad student who’s trying so hard to be good she forgets to live. And Remy? Remy is a wolven golden-retriever-coded menace — all sunshine, loyalty, and soft eyes… until he isn't. He bakes, he protects, he respects every boundary, and then he scents and knots like his soul is on fire. I ascended. And the side characters? Sylvia — queen, menace, icon. Onyx & Titus? Pure chaos gremlins and I am already begging for their books. This story is flirty, filthy, unexpectedly soft, and full of genuine emotional growth. Come for the monster kink; stay for the devotion, the healing, and a wolven step-brother who will love you with his whole feral heart. 📚 If you’ve been monster-curious or taboo-curious, Step-Knotting is your doorway. Don’t knock — just walk in.
Oh my! This was such a great story, sweet & spicy in all the right ways, and while it felt rather taboo at times, being step-siblings, Bri and Remy are not related and didn't grow up together.
Bri, bless her heart, is very much a people pleaser, especially when it comes to her father, and Remy is the sweetest brother any girl could ask for. I'm glad we got to follow their relationship from their first meeting, because they are so dang cute together. Of course, like most relationships, there are some ups and downs along the way, but we get to see how they navigate the challenges life throws in their way.
I don't want to spoil the ending, but I did not see it coming! I really hope it means we get to see more from these characters in future books, because I really want to know how things go for Bri's plan, especially as Sylvia and Titus are involved.
I received an ARC of this ebook from the author, and I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
This was such a fun book. I got this book as an ARC, curtesy of the lovely Maya Maitea, and it was everything I thought it would be, and more. This book is packed full of delicious monster smut, step-siblings kink gallore and cinnamon bun golden (wolven) retriever MMC. It's so funny, so cute, and so feel-good, you can't help inhaling chapter after chapter after chapter and laugh your way through the pages.
Remy is an absolute sweetheart green-flag of a guy (yeah yeah, wolven, I know) and Bri is such a brat, I love them and their dynamics, ugh, this was so good.
If you love monster romance with a bit of taboo relationship and a lot of sweet and smutty moments, I highly recommend you give Step-Knotting a go !
(let's also give a shout out to the best show-stopping and spotlight-stealing bestie Sylvia cause she's truly amazing)
Talk about a spicy read 😮💨 Bri and Remy have the craziest tension from literally their first interaction and it doesn’t take very long for them to give in to the tension. This has the perfect amount of forbidden romance mixed with a bit of exh¡b¡t¡on¡sm and plenty of t@b00 spicy times going on. I absolutely devoured this, I started and finished it in about 6.5 hours. I loved the ways their relationship was tested and seeing them come out on top in the end. The side characters were really enjoyable, for the most part, and unlikable characters were dealt with appropriately. This was really spicy but it was also really romantic and it showed off some really strong familial bonds that were nice to see. I’ll definitely be reading the rest of this series.
I know a lot of people like morally gray MMCs with red flags, but what about a golden retriever wolven who’s the biggest green flag?
I throughly enjoyed this book—it gave me fantasy and low angst with all the spice I crave. I also loved how there were only a few people who were *bad*—everyone the book focuses on is a genuinely good, well-adjusted person who cares about other people and I eat that up. There are some themes of loss, but grief is met with really good tradition and outlook.
The author did a wonderful job of creating a contemporary world full of fantasy creatures, bringing the spice (with some kink!), and keeping it fluffy and sweet with enough plot to see it through. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
- werewolf x human - step-siblings - forced proximity - forbidden
I had a freaking time reading this (in the best way). It was lighthearted but damn was it SPICYYYY. Is it technically taboo- yes but like, just a little.
Remy, our MMC, is the sweetest, most caring man on the face of this planet. Like with everyone, all the time. He is just such a good person. But then seeing his spicy side come out- PHEW.
Bri- I want to hug her and just tell her to tell everyone to F off. She is definitely a people pleaser and I hate that for her. But her relationship with Remy helps her figure out her worth and I loved that.
I was excited for this book from seeing it on TikTok. I get the taboo aspect, but in this book it’s just more cringe than anything. They so heavily emphasize Bro and Sis stuff but in a completely overdone way. Oh you’re my bro now so you need to get along with my best friend. Oh let me introduce you to my new sis. Couples costumes? Nah bro and sis costumes. It’s just too much in my opinion. DNF at 38% I just couldn’t do it anymore and that’s a lot coming from me because I NEVER DNF books. I think in over the 400 books or so I have read I’ve DNFd 4.
This story is such an emotional roller coaster in the best ways. I absolutely loved every character of this book. There were times when I laughed, there were the spicy times, and there were times where I got a bit misty eyed. this is my second read from this author and I have loved everything so far. I also found myself putting this book down just because I didn’t want the story to end so I tried to drag it out as long as possible 💜💜 would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a cute and cozy monster read with plenty of spice and loveable characters
It's a cute story, and one with surprisingly no massive issues. I know it sounds strange but it's one of those go with the flow, but make it monster romance. While I do enjoy monster romances and smut and sports, I admit I felt a bit... Like there was something missing. Can't say what. There were a few things that I am not too fond of, but overall it was a nice read, even though I did have to push myself to finish reading it. I do admit I am looking forward to Sylvia's story or onyx... Please... Dragon 😂🐉😭
This was an Arc read, and my honest review with it
The words OH MY GODDESS don't even do this book justice. The chemistry between the characters and the spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ It tugged on my heart strings seeing two characters that care for each other so deeply, that love and support each other through thick and thin and then to have the spicy scenes on top was like the cherry on top of the sundae. Yes there are quite a few taboo elements in this book which I won't spoil what they are here but the storyline just had me absolutely gripped from beginning to end. A permanent member of my re-read list.
What can I say about Bri and Remy. I loved these two. Opposites attract. I never felt the relationship between Remy and Bri to be awkward but full of love. They started out as enemies but turned into lovers. This is a favorite trope of mine.
The steamy scenes between these two are HOT! I could not get enough of them. I felt for Bri and the situation she had with her dad regarding Remy. Her stepmom was very cool. Yet, once the truth came out, Bri's father actually handled the news fairly well.
If you like your books HOT, then you will want to pick up a copy of this book.
This is a really cute story! Bri lives on her own after her roommate moved out and she received a call from her dad telling her that her new stepbrother needs a place to live because his plans fell through. But of course, her dad gives him a key to let himself in and she has to meet him in a towel because she just got out of the shower. And did I mention he's wolven and hot as heck?
The chemisty between these two characters is off the charts. There's spice, there's laughs -- it's everything a monster rom com could be.
If you are a fan of sports romance this is a great option to get into the “monster fcking” side of reading. It is sweet and light hearted with plenty of “fun times” for the characters. I personally am not really in sports romance, so the tropes from that in this aren’t for me. Sorry this isn’t a more detailed review, I did dnf with plans to complete at a later date.
I did receive an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I had the privilege of having this as an arc read. I will admit that I freaking enjoyed the MMC Remy so much. He is such a big sweetheart and Bri is such a dynamic relable FMC with her quirks and honestly relates to any people pleaser who's trying to live her own life.
But the smut, oof. Delicious, diverse, and I wish more sites had this kind of visual effect and build-up that stories like Step-Knotting have because what I would give to see this book in action.
The best thing: cinnamon roll male lead. Hard to imagine some of the things he thought and said were organically male but sure, take me into the story. Not so great things: nothing much happens 😕 😪 study, anime, books. I like these things but don't want to hear people doing them constantly. So I was getting pretty bored from a lack of plotting. Hot scenes were hot. I could see potential in this author if it were a bit more developed. Anyway, my first monster Romance; verdict was not bad.
If you like spicy monster romance Step Knotting is a great choice! Bri and Remi fit well together and there’s plenty angst and fluff to go with all kinds of kinkiness. Step knotting was on the lower end of the sadness spectrum, it includes themes of parental loss and family expectations but there’s also quite a bit of fluffy fluff - Remi is the period comfort every afab needs

This one felt like a cozy taboo romance—if that can be a thing! It’s definitely spicy (like, capital-S Spicy), with full-on chapters of heat. I expected nothing less after Maya’s Date with a Monster book, and she delivered.
I loved that the monsters stayed monsters—no shifting, no pretending. Just claws, growls, knotting, and kink in all the right ways.
Bri’s the kind of FMC I love—kind, a little self-sacrificing, and stuck trying to meet everyone else’s expectations. She gives up her creative space to make room for her new (monstrously hot) stepbrother, but slowly starts realizing she doesn’t have to give up the rest of herself, too. Watching her figure that out and choose what she really wants? Loved that for her.
And Remy? Ugh, I’m soft for him. Cinnamon roll Wolven with a filthy side, totally obsessed with Bri in the most supportive way. He’s all encouragement, quiet loyalty, and “I’ve got your back” energy. Their connection builds slow and steady, full of sweet tension and zero miscommunication. Bless.
There’s also a scene-stealing bestie, some wild role-play, a little exhibitionism, and just enough monster chaos to keep things extra fun. The pacing dragged a bit in spots, but I still had a great time.
Huge thanks to Maya Maitea for the ARC—I’ll happily stay in my cozy little monster filth corner for as long as she keeps writing them.
Maya now how to right an intriguing story. I love the taboo elements of the story and the realistic issues that will not have suddenly having some more live with you/your own step sibling as an adult. I always love a good monster romance, they are. just better than real men.
Step siblings (as adults) forced proximity. Sex positive. Public play
I really enjoyed this read! It's a light step into the taboo and a great romcom vibe. It's fun, delicious spice, and tender all wrapped into one! I felt the characters were meant for each other! I can't wait to read more of Maya Maitea's books! This is the second book I've read by her and I'm enjoying them every time!
A lot happened in this book. It was somehow a slow/medium-burn story but when we got to acceptance it was FULL STEAM AHEAD they legit went from normal 🌶️ to all the ⛓️🐕🦺🚿
you know what you are getting into just from the title. for that alone, great scenes, very descriptive. the flowing story was good too, some parts are less than believable even with it being monster romance, but let's be honest it was a good time.
