India Baker reports the dirt directly from the dugout.
As a newly appointed sportscaster for the Tennessee Terrors, she’s down in the trenches reporting live with up-to-the-minute reactions and in-your-face interviews about the team.
And the member who hates it the most is the number one man—me—the head coach.
I’ve known India a good portion of my life. Difficult to escape your best friend's little sister or a woman who once dared you to kiss her. Now, she’s the one that got away and a pain in my baseball pants’ backside.
Life as a former professional baseball player turned coach has its foul balls and strikeouts, and the one thing I am not willing to lose again is my heart.
Except . . .
She still gets under my skin. She looks so good in those red-framed glasses and form-fitting dresses, highlighting all her curves. And even after all these years, she makes my heart race like I'm running for home plate.
It’s not often a player can outsmart a potential double play on the field, but the truth is, falling for her was never a game to me, and I'm hoping to score a second chance.

What a fun story! I’m normally not the girl that just jumps into a series willy nilly, but I didn’t really feel like I was missing anything so that made me happy. The story has Dunbar’s signature “sexy emotional sweetness” that I’ve grown to really look forward to reading. She’s so good at making sure her characters are relatable and true to real life. I always find myself resonating with her stories in one way or another because of the “age group” she consistently writes about. She makes sure her characters have the appropriate “circumstances” that come with “age” but also making sure the journey is vibrant and hopeful and full of heart. *happy sigh* I always miss her stories the minute I finish one!
Trigger Warnings include: mentions of childhood cancer, cheating (not between MCs)
This is exactly what I needed to read during the MLB draft! India is Declan’s best friend’s younger sister…the forbidden fruit. And then 2 decades later, she’s still forbidden, because now she’s in contract with his baseball team. The world keeps giving them signs to stay apart, but now they’re seeing it for what it was: right person wrong time. Now it IS their time! I always love reading ‘later in life’ romances by this author! And this was yet another easy one to love! It was obvious that their feelings had remained the same over the years, no matter what they experienced separately. Unfortunately, in that time apart, trust issues and insecurities were collected. Thankfully, love conquers all. And Declan is a hell of a supportive man! The connection to the Chicago Anchors series/characters was a fun added bonus!
My Favorite Quotes: • “You’ve been eye-f!cking me.” “In your dreams.” “No, in my dreams, we’re actually f!cking.” • “You’re a damn wildfire.” • “You’re smart and talented and enticing as f!ck.” • “Tell me you feel like a goddess in this thing.” • “Be a good girl. And I’m all yours.” • “That’s my best girl.” “Your girl.” • “I’d wait forever for you.”

Second Chance Romance with Major League Baseball Setting

This standalone novel is part of a series about the Tennessee Terrors baseball team, with each book in the collection by a different author. It features Declan and India. They have pined for each other since she was in her teens and he was 20 but the situation and timing never worked out. Both are now in their middle years - she's 40 and he's 45 - and working in Nashville. He's the team coach and she's a field reporter covering the team. The chemistry is still there but India has a conflict of interest as a journalist.
These are characters who have weathered trials. India has come out of a difficult divorce and is trying to build her professional reputation. Declan is a single father who is now achieving success as a coach after putting his career on hold when his daughter was young. Readers will hope that timing is finally on the side of this couple.
There are lots -too many - of very cheesy baseball metaphors for relationships.
Loving this series! Love Sports romance! Love LB Dunbar! This book was addicting no brainer have to read. She hit this one out of the park for a grand slam! Who doesn't love a second chance this one was sweet but added that "forbidden" best friends little sister element. Oh wait we also had the hidden office/ballfield romance trope. This book has it all without being to much or trying to hard it flowed and made my romance loving heart so full! He is a super sweet single dad. She is an independent slightly damaged sassy lady though can't help but want to be friends with. A fun Easter Egg mention of another coach from her other baseball series! Fantastic story, great addition to the series.
L.B. Dunbar has written a Second Chance Story that defines an snapshot in The Tennessee Terrors series. Declan and India is one of depth , past and present colliding ONCE AGAIN!
“And even after all these years, she makes my heart race like I’m running for home plate.”
This book held my heart the entire time! Yes the bother’s best friend trope is one of my favorites but the second chance aspect of this story is what I loved most!! When you love someone that much it never fades away!
I dare you to pick up a book by L. B. Dunbar and be able to put it down. Nope. Not happening. I set it down to do something that needs to be done but I’m soon right back for one more chapter, and one more, until I’ve finished the entire delightful thing. Double Play was just another in a long line of her books I have loved and another example of just how brilliantly she can write a meaningful story about characters a little older than cute, impulsive twenty-somethings.
Declan Wylde is India Baker’s brother Isiah’s best friend. Declan was a professional baseball pitcher, took a few side journeys, acquired a child he adores and single co-parents, and is now the coach of the Tennessee Terrors professional baseball team. He’s had a good life, has a good job, and is well-respected, but those side journeys cost him a lot; namely, India. He’s moved on, kind of, not really, and that is one large regret he’s carrying around.
India took her own path, mostly by choice but in part because some things she wanted suddenly weren’t available to her; namely, more of whatever that was with Declan. She saw him often growing up and had a crush on him from about the age of fifteen. When she was twenty and Declan was twenty-five they had a wild week at her brother’s wedding celebration. They kept in touch somewhat, but then Declan was traded somewhere, she went to school and got a job somewhere else, he had a child, she got married. What felt so right and promising was now nothing but a memory and a what-if. Although Declan and Isiah are still best friends, Declan and India haven’t really been in touch for fifteen years.
Until now. India has taken her own roundabout journey, standing up to and cutting ties with her father, leaving a marriage that never really worked and was demeaning, and is now the newly appointed sportscaster for the Tennessee Terrors, right there in the dugout interviewing everybody, asking probing questions, right in Declan’s face. But she acts as if they’ve never met. He’s not sure what’s going on but goes along with it. Then Isiah comes to town for a couple of days and it’s obvious, apparent, undeniable that the I-want-to-rip-your-clothes-off-plus-I-want-to-spend-the-rest-of-my-life-with-you attraction is still there. It’s not that simple though. India has worked hard to get this far in her career, and fraternization with the team is forbidden. She has been overlooked, neglected, diminished and treated poorly by many men as she’s worked to prove herself, none more so than her father and her cheating ex-husband. So jeopardizing her career is not on the table. Nothing can happen. But wait, maybe I should say nothing should happen, because it can and it does.
Author Dunbar does a remarkable job of telling this story of two people given a second chance and taking us along on the very enjoyable ride to see what they make of that chance. Double Play is funny, witty, sweet and sexy, and the adult yearning and desire for something they fear is just out of reach – again - is heartbreaking and will have you reaching for a tissue. Declan has always wanted India but he respects her, understands her needs and wishes and acknowledges her fears. He’s romantic and tender and thoughtful, a man approaching middle age who knows his mind. He can be possessive and forceful but not overbearing; he truly cares about India and wants her to be happy. He’ll do anything to take advantage of this second chance they’ve been given, anything. And that scares her. Even though he’s always been her what-if, too, she’s afraid to let him make big changes, to drastically change his life for her. What if she’s not enough? What if he changes his mind?
Double Play will draw you in and refuse to let you go. In addition to Declan and India and their families we are treated to a mention of the Chicago Anchors and coach Ross Davis from Dunbar’s book Elevator Pitch. It’s obvious Dunbar loves baseball; Double Play is chock full of baseball references, metaphors, jokes. I received an advance copy of Double Play. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it without hesitation and am now eager to read more about these Tennessee Terrors in the rest of the books in that series. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
Both India and Declan are well-defined, relatable characters that I couldn’t help but love and cheer on to a happily ever after. Theirs is a second chance at love story with plenty of angst, self-reflection and regrets. It includes lots of steamy interludes, emotional conversations and a couple of detours on their way to their well deserved happily ever after. They have long carried a torch for each other and had a week long passionate interlude fifteen years ago. Then both thought they were on the path to a committed relationship, but unfortunately unexpected circumstances prevented that from happening. They both made another try to test the waters with each other, but fate had other plans for them. Neither has had luck when it comes to love and has never really gotten over the other.
Now, newly divorced and out from underneath her father’s control, Fate has brought India into Declan’s ballpark. Despite her aloofness and refusal to acknowledge they know each other in public, he is ready to try again, to seize the chance to claim her heart. India, however, has erected tall guards around her heart and seems determined to choose her career, her ambition, over love. She all but shuts him out for months as she interviews him as part of her job. When her brother, his best friend arrives in town, there is a subtle shift in her demeanor, an opening that Declan is determined to take. They agree to see each other in secret so that her job will not be in jeopardy, but both find it challenging. As their story continues, both reflect on what they really want, where they want their relationship to go and if they are willing to fight to have a future together.
Declan’s a great guy, a cinnamon role hero who made a choice to be part of his daughter’s life, to always be someone she could count on, despite he and her mother not being a couple. His choice cost him his relationship with India fifteen years ago, but he can’t regret choosing his daughter. I loved how he showed India how much he cared with small gestures and by abiding by her wish to keep things secret when he really he wanted the total opposite. I understand India’s decision too. She had let her father and her ex control her in the past. Working for her father made others question her capabilities and skills. The two men who were supposed to love her, used her and betrayed her, and though she understood his choice fifteen years ago, it hurt that Declan didn’t choose her. Now, trust doesn’t come easy, and she has promised herself that she will put her career, her goals above everything and everyone else. When that seems to be in jeopardy, she pushes Declan away. Thankfully, Declan is a persistent fellow, with the patience and determination to finally claim his girl.
I wholeheartedly, and quite happily, recommend this book.
India has it all, and she’s clawed her way to the top to get it. She’s now the on-sight reporter for The Den, an exclusive streaming service of the Tennessee Terrors, putting her in the dugout with the players, live streaming to their fans. Perfect job, right? It would be unless your childhood crush and hook-up for one wonderful week wasn’t the coach and best friend to your older brother, Isaiah.
Forty-five-year-old Declan Wylde, dubbed Wylde Thing early on in his baseball career, is now the coach of Tennessee’s professional baseball team. He’s a single dad and baseball has been his life…ALWAYS, that is, until his 14-year-old, daughter, Montgomery, came into his life. Fatherhood is his number one profession now. He even took his current job, just to be near her, to be an involved father in her life.
Sure, it’s been 15 years since the hook-up with “Wildfire” his nickname for India, but it seems that Ms. Baker doesn’t want anyone to know of their past. The thing is, he doesn’t know what he did to deserve the cold shoulder she’s giving him.
India has a plan, and it doesn’t include getting cozy with the Terror’s coach. She doesn’t want a job that her dad helped her get. She wants to be a reporter for the new women’s baseball league that’s on the horizon. She needs to be taken seriously and this is her chance. Don’t forget India…you have a “no fraternizing” clause in your contract. It seems that the clause in the contract has nothing on the heat between these two ex-lovers.
The ending was a little too abrupt for me. There was so much emphasis put on the “no fraternizing” clause in Indie’s contract, that the ending seemed too contrived, too quick for my liking. I have to admit that typos bug me. They interrupt the flow of my reading, and there were several, which is why I didn’t give this baseball bonanza a 5.
Get your baseball on, grab a beer, a hot dog and this fun, angsty sports story that will keep you reading till the 9th inning with the bases loaded. Will Indie give Declan a chance? CAN she fit him in her life now, when it’s just never been the right time or place for them? Will she put her job in jeopardy for a chance with Declan?
I would definitely give this second chance sports story a try. I’d even forgo the 7th inning stretch to find out the fate of India and Declan.
This is the 8th book in the Tennessee Terror’s baseball series. It can definitely be read as a standalone, but once you read one in this series, you'll want to read the rest.
I received an arc copy in exchange for my honest review!
Double Play is the lastest in the Tennessee Terrors series, and it was fantastic. LB Dunbar has become a favorite of mine, and Double Play did not leave me disappointed. Declan and India were perfect in every way. I can't wait for the next one.

I have become one of Author L.B. Dunbar’s baseball groupies! If she’s written a baseball book, I’ve read it and loved each and every one of them!
Double Play…..what can I say. This book is the definition of what a baseball double play looks like; only this double play involves two people Coach Declan Wylde and India Baker, dugout/and field sportscater for the Tennessee Terrors.
Now I’m going to give you some of the dirt between these two. India’s brother Isaiah played college ball with Declan. Fifteen years ago the had a week together, but a week wasn’t enough for either one of them and it was baseball that kept them from reconnecting. For Declan is was a trade and a child and for India it was her father and her husband. A lot can change or maybe not change and India and Declan still have feelings BIG FEELINGS for each other.
Now comes the rest of what a double play involves. In this case we have two “players” that we are hoping come together as opposed to staying apart.
“Heat” and spice are in the air . They were orginally friends who became lovers and I’m sitting on the sidelines with my big Terrors #1 foam finger hoping we will get to see a second chance for love!
Seriously, there were reasons why they might never make it, but I think that everyone in their bubble were cheering them on! I certainly know I was!
This had everything in a book that draws me in and keeps me reading until I get to the end….Angst, wooing, banter, a game of Truth or Dare and two people who fought hard for each other!
If your into baseball (which I am) and love seeing not just players but coaches and sportscasters in your baseball stories, you are going to enjoy Double Play!
⭐️Arc Review⭐️ Double Play by @lbdunbarwrites Book 8 in the collaborative series Tennessee Terrors 4/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️
Grab your peanuts and Cracker Jacks, it’s time for another round of Tennessee Terrors action, and let me tell you, this one knocks it clear out of the park!
Somehow, this series just keeps getting better with every book. I don’t even know how that’s possible, but here we are! The fast-paced storytelling, the emotional depth, and the chemistry between the leads had me completely hooked. And this one brings the baseball puns and cheeky innuendos in full force, and I devoured every bit of it.
Declan Wylde and India Baker had their shot 15 years ago-at her brother’s wedding, no less but life had other plans. Missed chances, a baby for Declan, and a rough divorce for India kept them on separate paths. But now? They’re back in the same city, working at the same ballpark, and finally... both single. The only thing standing in their way? A no-fraternization clause that threatens to bench their second chance before it even begins.
From page one, Declan and India had me. Their chemistry is undeniable, practically leaps off the page. Sure, they’ve gone 15 years with little to no contact, but that time apart only adds depth to their reunion. Their growth as individuals makes their connection feel even more authentic. Stolen glances, impromptu dancing to street music, and one word: Colorado!! Their romance felt raw, and totally believable. I especially appreciated how relatable their story was, from their age, both are in 40’s, to the way Declan and his ex handled co-parenting with genuine maturity which would be studied because that’s definitely how that situation should be handled.
Dare I say it? This just might be my favorite book in the series so far. Bottom line? This one’s a grand slam.⚾️💥
Thank you @wordsmithpublicity and huge thanks to the author for the ARC.
I’m loving this author’s stories about silver foxes! She presents men who have lived some, have a lot of experiences under their belt, regrets and successes, and know what they want.
In this case, Declan and India have always pined for each other but had a lot of near misses, never able to start a relation because they were in different places in their work and personal circumstances. Now, fifteen years after they had a one-week fling, which was way more than a fling and with a potential of something serious, they have a possible second chance.
“I moved. India moved. I had Montgomery. India married Malakai. She went to Vegas. I landed in Nashville. Our history was like one of those maps baseball teams project on the big screen to highlight the crazy path of a player’s journey through the league.”
The story is rife with emotion, regrets, yearning, lots of crackling chemistry and a ton of lust. They are perfect for each other but there are still obstacles. I loved how Declan always deferred to India’s career, understanding how important it is to her.
“India’s work isn’t just a job. It’s her career,” I stress. My hands land on my hips like I’m ready to physically guard India. “A job is something you do. But a career involves passion.” I glance from India to Montgomery. “Women like Indie are paving the way for girls like you. She’s the future.”
They have a constant game of truth or dare, which colors their interactions, and is brilliant in communicating their truths to each other. It’s fun and flirty and sexy. This was a page-turner, very entertaining. I was very invested in how Declan and India would turn out.
I don’t know if the Tennessee Terror series was purposefully planned to launch around MLB draft time, but it is working! LB Dunbar’s book Double Play is book 8 in the series and a fun, but sexy read of two people who embody the phrase “right person, wrong time” throughout the story. But what happens when the wrong time finally becomes the right time and your chance at love is within reach?
Declan and India have been orbiting each other for years. Declan is India’s big brother’s best friend, so she has always been off limits, but she never seemed to care about that rule. But they were never able to make it work, based on numerous outside factors. Fate has given them another chance! At 40 and 45, their feelings have remained strong for 20 years. I loved the conflict of interest hardship that LB wrote in, Declan being the head coach of the team that India is the field reporter for. But this just brings their orbits closer together.
LB’s passion for later in life MCs is evident in her writing. She takes time to give her characters lives that are fulfilled and successful. She doesn’t write love as a thing everything must have, but rather a force that you can’t deny when you meet the right person. Her characters are always enough on their own, finding love just gives them a little extra something. As Declan and India find out how to make love work for them and theirs, you won’t be able to help cheer for fate to finally be on their side.
As always, review any author notes before reading.

“Truth or Dare” Doesn't matter!! In skilled hands of Dunbar, the couple always pulls through the dire situations they find themselves in. Like Declan Wylde and India Baker
“ As the newest field reporter for The Den, an exclusive streaming service for the Tennessee Terrors, the professional baseball team I coach, I will see India for the first time in fifteen years. Fifteen long years in which much has changed between us.”
Their romance has been put on back burner, slowly simmering away the passion till it threatens to explode. Isaiah, her brother and Declan's best friend, can hear it cackling. She's a survivor, he's trying to, and hand-in-hand they navigate through all the truths and dares together A scintillating, soulful connection that has been through decades of pining. As usual I love it “4 stars cuz there's no crying in baseball” Follow me on: Email🌻 Bookbub 🌻 Twitter🌻 Instagram🌻 Blog🌻 Facebook🌻 Amazon 🌻
India Baker is no longer just the girl next door or her brother’s annoying little sister — she’s now the fierce, take-no-prisoners sportscaster reporting live from the dugout… and right back into my life.
As head coach of the Tennessee Terrors, I’ve faced tough innings before — but nothing compares to dealing with India in full broadcast mode. The woman gets under my skin, lights me up, and still looks better than any fastball I’ve ever thrown.
Double Play is a flirty, nostalgic, and sizzling second chance romance that blends tension, banter, and undeniable chemistry. L.B. Dunbar gives us a strong heroine who knows her worth and a grumpy ex-ballplayer who’s finally ready to play for keeps. Every glance, every clash, every memory sparks a fire they can’t ignore — even if the past is still in play.
Tropes: ⚾ Sports Romance- Baseball 🎤 Sportscaster Heroine 💘 Brother’s Best Friend 💥 Enemies-to-Lovers Vibe 🧨 Second Chance ❤️ Grumpy/Sunshine
Double Play delivers on all the classic rom-com tension — witty, sexy, and emotionally satisfying. India and her red-framed glasses are unforgettable, and Coach? Total swoon. A must-read for anyone who loves their second chances with spice and sass.
“Perhaps my attitude is personal. Hard not to feel that way about a woman who once twisted me all up inside and then went radio silent.”
Double Play | L.B. Dunbar | Tennessee Terrors #8
Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5, 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
“You’re going to break me. She’ll tear me in two and I won’t be whole again, not that I’m certain I’ve ever been whole without her. Nothing has ever felt like this feels. I’d thought maybe the memories of her were enhanced because we’d been so much younger. But with her lips around my cock and her soft sounds of enjoyment, I know nothing ever will feel like what it feels like now. With her.”
Read this if you love: best friend’s sister | baseball romance | second change at love (over 40) | silver fox coach | single dad | reunited lovers
“And standing before me is a man who simply wants my time, and nothing else from me. Not to give up my job. Not to forgo my future.”
This one was cute with the perfect amount of steam. Declan and India were given a shot at a second chance when they both needed it the most. They were both obsessed with each other and their reunion 15 years later made perfect sense. I’m also loving Dunbar’s baseball book era. This book is part of a series written by different authors and I’m going to be adding the rest to my reading list.
Thank you @lbdunbarwrites for the eARC. I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
L.B. Dunbar has hit another one out of the park. Double Play is book 8 in the multi-author Tennessee Terrors series. If you like a silver fox, single dad, baseball coach, second chance with best friend’s sister, this is your book. There’s a trope for just about everyone. Declan Wylde and India Baker may have swung and missed 15 years before, but now they’re both in the same city, working at the same ballpark and both single, but can a no fraternizing clause keep them from hitting a home run?
I loved how both main characters, even while apart for years, always respected the other’s situation, be it career, marriage or family. Plus having the mutual brother/best friend it was easy to innocently keep track of each other. The storyline felt realistic and not rushed just to get to the good parts. The main characters were able to work through their feelings and emotions like you would expect mature adults to do. It’s spicy but at appropriate times.
I read this book before reading the first 7 books and didn’t feel lost or like I started in the middle of a book. Now I’m going to go back and start at the beginning with book 1. PS: Declan and his Ex need to write a how-to-coparent book or do seminars. Five extra stars just for them.
Declan Wylde is one baseball coach I would love to meet! His quiet demeanor was a front for the come-hither glances he directed at India when she strolled into the interview room. Declan and India had some unfinished business which left them with more questions than answers. As a sports broadcaster India was never short on the hard questions for the coaches but when it came to Declan, she was afraid of what his answers might be. He was larger than life and the years had only made him more handsome, rugged and irresistible. India’s new job was very important to her and she refused to fall for Declan’s charm, good looks and empty promises. Declan would always be the one that got away, like a foul ball in the outfield, but now that he was back in her life, she had to tread lightly, and guard her heart.
Declan’s job as a major league manager was all-consuming and so was his desire for India. The baseball gods were shining down on him the day she came walking back into his life. Just being in the same room with her gave him hope that this was the beginning of the second chance they both deserved. He would need a foolproof game plan to win back her heart once and for all. She wouldn’t make it easy for him but Declan never backed down from a challenge! He was three outs away from the biggest win of his life and he was hopeful that India would be by his side, cheering him on!!
I received an ARC and as always love L.B. Dunbar's books. This is the first book I've read of this series and I feel like I need to go back and read others. I liked the story and the characters. Declan and India's relationship is a hit and miss one. India is Declan's best friend's little sister and she has had a crush on Declan for a long time. They come together during India's brothers wedding and the sparks fly. Then their lives go different directions and they don't connect for 15 years. When they do meet Declan is the coach of the Tennesee Terrors baseball team and India is a sportscaster for The Den, an exclusive streaming service for the the Terros. The meet up is a cold shoulder between the two and all business. Fifteen years has passed and lives were changed. A baby came into the picture for Declan and a brutal divorce for India. India has spent years making a life for herself and and on her own without her dad's help and she wants to prove herself. The two do connect and their story weaves thoughout the book with family interactions and history. I knew there was going to be a detour but I'm glad to report there is a HEA. I would have liked to know more about her father and his failings in her life. The book was good and I gave it 4 stars.
“I’m out to prove she’s seductive and sensual, both very different terms from səxy.”
From the very first chapter, we learn that the chemistry between Declan and India is off the charts. Unfortunately, life kept throwing them curveballs that prevented them from being together. But, once life put them together again in the same place, Declan was determined not to lose her again.
I really enjoyed the way the author presented the struggles a woman goes through while working in a male-dominated environment and how India even went as far as pretending she didn't know Declan outside of work to avoid people thinking she got her job as a favor. But this didn't deter Declan, and he did everything in his power to get his top girl. I also loved how Monty, Declan's daughter, gave him the final push he needed to think of himself and his happiness.
One thing I love about LB Dunbar's baseball romance books is all the baseball puns and metaphors, and let me tell you she did not disappoint. This story was fun to read from beginning to end, and in my opinion, this just adds to the fun of the sports romance trope.
Quote: “You’ll never make a hit if you don’t swing. That means you’ll never get the girl if you don’t take chances.”
⭐️ 3.75 stars ⭐️ Slow burn, second chances, and a whole lot of grown-up tension
Double Play feels like a slow sunset on a quiet day—smooth, warm, and not meant to be rushed. Declan and India’s story is full of history, unresolved emotions, and the kind of silence that says everything they’re too scared to say aloud.
This isn’t your high-stakes drama with explosive chemistry. Instead, it’s a more mature love story, with characters who’ve lived, lost, and learned to guard their hearts. The pace is slow and steady, which made it easy to set down and pick back up—but also meant I didn’t always feel that urgency to read “just one more chapter.”
Declan is broody but respectful. India is guarded but trying to be brave. And while I wanted to shake them both and scream “JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER,” I could also understand why they didn’t. Old wounds run deep.
The ending brought everything together in a satisfying way, and I loved the steadiness of the emotional payoff. The chemistry might not have been fireworks, but it was real. Honest. More about connection than combustion.
If you love slow-burn second chances with older characters and emotional depth, Double Play delivers that pitch right over home plate. ⚾️
Thankyou L. B. Dunbar and Wordsmith Publicity for the eARC!
Declan and India's story is ... wow! Once again, I am at a loss for words to express how deeply stories like this touch me, how they continue to resonate within me, and how they occupy my thoughts, even days after I have finished reading them. It must be said that no one captures the wistfulness of missed opportunities in life and the accompanying melancholy as well and in such a multifaceted way as Ms. Dunbar does, while the main characters ask themselves self-critical questions about their life choices when they reach a crucial turning point ... And likewise, no one captures the still-smoldering passion of younger years as well as Ms. Dunbar, whose characters burn from within, loving deeply and passionately when they are given a second chance ... Declan and India's story reflects exactly that. On the one hand, it is full of quiet tones, on the other hand, it bursts with passion and newly awakened, deep emotions that stir the reader to their very core of their soul. This book will stay with me for a long time and is, in my opinion, one of the best Ms. Dunbar has written to date.
As always LB delivers another page turner a book you just don't want to put down.
Declan Wylde the coach of the Tennessee Terrors, and the father of a teenager daughter is just moving along in life. But all that changes when his team get a new field reporter India Baker his best friend Isaiah little sister.
It takes him back in time to a week they spent together a game of truth or dare turned into so much more.
India is starting over after her divorce she just want's a new start and no complications, but all that changes when she sees Declan again he reminds her of a happy place she use to be in. But she needs to avoid him at all costs her job comes first.
Slowly Declan and India realise they still have that chemistry and spark between them should they explore it or just move on. The pull between them is to much Declan is just what India needs a second chance at happiness and finding true love. 🥰
Declan’s daughter speaks the truth is a job worth more than finding true love. Will they make it to the end of the season or will they part ways sometime we find love when we least expect it. Always believe in that second chance. ⚾️
Truth: Double Play is one amazing, captivating and heart stealing story. Dare: Go on read it, you know you want to. This second chance romance is one that at times breaks your heart and shows you how that sometimes as much as you want something life has a habit of putting in roadblocks and diverting you from your destination. Declan and India are finally in the same city but after not seeing each other for over a decade, walls have been erected and it might take more than a grand slam to get over that wall. As the chemistry builds between these two they find it hard to stay away but with so much on the line can either of them make the home run or will they be out on third base. Their story will at times make your heart ache and at others make you want to yell at each of them. However it is the love that these two feel for each other and have done for more than a decade that steals your heart. I loved how Declan's daughter was the one to make him finally see clearly. Such a beautiful story that will have you captivated right up to the very end.
It was a a sweet second chance romance. Declan and Isaiah were best friends all through school and both played baseball ⚾️ India was Isaiah younger sister who had a big crush on Declan. Isaiah was told he was good but not good enough for the big league but Declan was drafted and made rookie of the year. Declan did make an error 15 years earlier regarding India, but he felt he was doing the best thing, even though he wanted to continue a relationship with her, she was just starting her career he was getting traded & found out he was going to be a father. With that said I was team Declan all the way; India made assumptions based on how she was treated by her Ex-husband and her Father. What she failed to see Declan was team India and was truly happy to follow her lead, he did not want to control her & stifle her dreams. He saw her for who she was; smart, beautiful, Talented & creative. He just wanted to have his “Wildfire,” back in his life & love her. I was team Declan all the way…..the ending was a little flat for me, but the extra content saved the day.
Double Play (Tennessee Terrors) By @lbdunbarwtites ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ 📍Baseball 📍Second chance 📍Single dad 📍Workplace
India is the new sideline reporter for the MLB team. Declan is the team's head coach. They've know each other for years because she's his best friend's sister. In other words, off limits. Except for that one week years ago.
As with all of LB Dunbar's books, this one pulled me in from the beginning. She writes MMCs that I fall hard for and Declan has all the qualities you want in a book boyfriend. He's smart, a great dad, thoughtful, and has a dirty mouth. India is smart, feisty, and newly divorced from a cheating ex.
Their attraction to each other still burns bright but because they essentially work together and her brother, they try to resist. Their close proximity thanks to travel for games and spending time with her brother helps bring their walls down and the fireworks explode.
This is a fun and steamy read. I loved their Truth or Dare game throughout the book.
India has a past with Declan that extends beyond the fact that he is her brother’s best friend. Despite the feelings she had for him their lives took them in different directions, and it will be more than a decade later before their lives intersect again. Being near him again was difficult enough but the fact that they were also working together only reinforces that she should keep her distance.
Declan is transitioning from his career as a professional baseball player into coaching and is a single father so getting involved with India is a complication he shouldn’t want both for the personal and professional ramification. With every passing day that becomes more difficult and now he needs to find a way to convince her that they can have each other and her dreams.
Due to the life experiences that India and Declan had when they were apart it gives them a greater understanding how special what they share is. The interactions between them are entertaining, the romance is endearing, and it is finally their time.
I really struggled on what to rate this one. I think this book had great potential to be a 5 star read for me. It had good bones with a foundation already there through Declan and India’s history- it just felt like it didn’t go anywhere until the very end. I am sure that there was a length requirement as the whole Tennessee Terrors series has been around the same page count, but I would have loved a longer book with more story. I know a lot of people loved this story and I really wanted to as well- it just fell short for me. I needed more Montgomery - she was more of a passing thought in their story even though she is his daughter; more Declan and India having a real relationship build up; constructive confrontation about their whole situation with Isaiah, his job, her job, etc. It felt like just when I thought it was getting really good it was a rushed ending that left me feeling stunned that was all there was. It wasn’t a bad read at all, it just fell flat for me personally. I hope if you read it you love it. ❤️
Double Play by L.B. Dunar is a unique blend of a brother's best friend romance, a second-chance love story, and a workplace drama set in the world of sports. Isaiah Baker and his younger sister India were always close. India had acute lymphocytic leukemia as a child, and their five-year age difference didn't matter much. Isaiah played baseball and met Declan Wylde, who went on to play professional baseball and is now head coach for the Tennessee Terrors, as well as a father to his daughter, Montgomery. Back in the day, Declan and India shared a weekend when Isaisah was getting married; their feelings for each other never ended, but the timing wasn't right. Years later, India finds herself as the sportscaster for the Tennessee Terrors, where Declan is head coach. Now that there's a no-fraternization policy in place, India is trying to prove to herself and others that she's a competent sportscaster and that she didn't need her father's nepotism. With all these obstacles, will India and Declan get their second chance to be together, or will they be forever haunted by the past?
